Hello all,
Been out of the game for a while, but with the S3, and the horrible OTA update that killed the S3, I'm back.
Did the root & recovery via this method: LINK
Now, I am looking for a ROM, thinking of just going with pure stock, without bloatware BS. What is the favorite, stable ROM out these days? (Just reading up on all of them now, just looking for overall favorites these days.)
If by stock, you mean TW, then there's no 4.2.1. If you mean AOSP (truly not bloated at all), it's currently in 4.2.2. So I'm confused on what you want. I can't comment in TW ROMs, because I strongly prefer AOSP, but if you want AOSP, I'd go with LiquidSmooth personally. SlimROM is also great, as is Paranoid Android.

Sorry, I did mean AOSP. Typo on the title on my part.
Will look at LiquidSmooth again. Thanks.

Because of the question. The fact is that while we can recommend you a ROM we can't guarantee that you will get the same experience that we did. Which is why moderators encourage us to try the ROMs out ourselves.
"Thread closed as "Best" rom for one user is not necessarily the "Best" for another.
Users are encouraged to read and determine what is best for them by reading the knowledge shared via posting.
These threads always spiral into arguments about one rom over another, and thus, trolling ensues.
Please do not post "Best Rom" threads." or even favorite

I never expected any guarantee. As its the General section and it even says 'tips'... I figured asking what people like, currently, would be a good way to look for a ROM so I can read the info and the user feedback in the ROM thread.
Kinda sad users can't get other users opinions for ROMs.
Oh well.

My advice to you for AOSP is to test the ROM based on what you're looking for in a ROM. Also after reading your post since you are not asking for help in choosing a ROM I don't think they close this thread only if you flat out ask us to help you pick a ROM.

I'm coming from the Vibrant forums, and am looking for the best rom to flash onto my friends Captivate. Which rom in your opinion is the best for day to day use? Also are there any roms that still utilize the Touchwiz launcher?
Assonance is the best.
Sent using smoke signals.
Do you know of any roms that contain the Touchwiz launcher?
I'm pretty sure DG has kept a modified version of the TW Launcher in his latest Perception build. And considering it's a DesignGears Rom, you know it's pretty solid.
I'm personally using Auxura at the moment. My next step is going Phoenix (same dev) or Perception.
Alright thanks for the reply. Do you know if Odining back to stock is absolutely necessary? In the Vibrant forums it's totally optional and only precautionary, but it seems like nearly every Dev has it listed as a MUST DO in this forum.
Follow the more rational conventional wisdom

It's paranoid and unnecessary unless you know/suspect that the ROMs use kernels with conflicting filesystems. Just wipe /data and /cache.
Ok guys we all know that best rom threads dont work, Best bet is to try them each over time and make your own mind up.
If I want to install a new rom, must I use Odin to go back to stock, then flash? Or can I simply just put the new rom in my sd card and just flash? (I'm hoping its the latter)
As long as you not going 2.2 to 2.3 or the other way around. You should be ok. make sure factory reset before flash

I'd recommend also reading up in the first few posts of whatever rom you're flashing to see what they recommend. Some roms suggest going back to stock to avoid issues, and if you're moving between roms, a clean flash can't hurt.
And the previous poster is right about the GB/froyo transfer - read a lot if you're thinking of doing that.
I always flash back to stock when flashing anything new, even if it's not needed. It takes a few minutes, but ensures you go through the whole process correctly. As others have said though, flashing to a 2.3 ROM is a completely different process. You'll get a boot loop if you try and do it without flashing GB bootloaders and a kernel with Odin 1.7 first.
Really? So I can go from a 2.2 based rom (like Teamwhiskeys Bionix-v) to a 2.2.1 based rom (like Toxic 7) just by placing the new rom in my sd card and reflashing?
Why do people stress the use of Odin?

Thanks for answering my questions bro. And to answer yours, because my girlfriend has a captivate and I'm doing some research on some roms for heron this board. And I on the other hand have a Vibrant and had that question to ask so I did on this board since I was already on it.....that is all.

There's a pretty big selection of 2.3 ROMS here, but they're not as "complete" as the 2.2 ROMS, typically in battery life and a few other minor things. Although it always comes down to personal taste, I'd probably suggest Andromeda3.

Mosaic III would also be an excellent choice. It's designed by a team of people who definitely know what they are doing.
Question answered thread closed. Should have been in Q&A instead
since there seems to be so much confusion about this update for those of us that are on stock 2.3.3 rom and are rooted and s off revolutionary , i would like to request a rooted stock version of 2.3.4 since i don't know what would happen if i try to apply this ota update with my situation. thanks
No one has it yet. Most of the people posting links to download isn't even the full ROM.
Install a custom ROM!

Full ROM isn't needed to make a rooted version of an update.
I've had a Nexus One and a Nexus S, they're quicker over there.
simple request, maybe its useless for you then don't read it ****...I don't want a custom one, I like stock and I'm sick of people like you on these forums that criticize people for wanting a stock rooted rom and don't want all the extra tweaks. Worry about what your running and not everyone else
@xtcislove
I will have a stock rooted rom up in a little while
thanks man!

Amen to that, about the custom ROMs...You custom ROMers are just pushing us stock ROMers further away. The only custom ROM, aside from having this one tailored to us noobs with S-oFF, CWM, and root, that I want is CM7.
Enough pushing already! We know where to go if we want a ROM. Seriously, I dont understand this peer pressure BS? Is there money involved? WTF is it? Why do people here give a crap about whether or not someone has a custom ROM over stock?

As you said, peer pressure. They must think that their way is the only way; hence, the pushing.

I agree. And those people pushing us to use custom roms must think that they're cool just cause they're using custom roms. Funny, when you go to the custom rom threads that they're pushing us to use, they have tons of issues and problems too! A lot more than the stock rom ones. And yet they tell you to install custom roms when you post having issues with the stock one, like they don't already have their own. I myself use custom roms every once in a while, I admit. But for reliability on the gps, camera, MMS size etc., I always go back to my nandroid backup. Custom roms are just for aesthetics and not too reliable as some of these fanatics are claiming. Also, my nandroid sensation with bloat removed is just as fast or even faster than most of these custom rom ones. And more reliable.

No opinion threads, flash different ones and see what's best for you. Also, this wouldn't even be the right section. This thread will probably be closed soon. Happy flashing!
Do you want customization?
Do you want stability?
Do you like sense or stock ics/jb?
Find out what you want in a Rom first. Each Rom here caters best to somebody.
Make a backup of what you have and flash away. Go back to what you had if you don't like what you install. That's the fun part.

1. Yes.
2. Yes.
3. Stock JB
I want slick, fast, and fun customization all the way form changing the boot logo sound to customizing the animation, and beyon dth at, a lot of good tweaks etc.
There is no "best" ROM. Everyone has different preferences, and uses their phones differently. Its like asking people what their favorite color is. They can give you an answer what they like. But it has absolutely no bearing on whether you will like it or not.
"Best ROM" threads are frowned upon here. This thread will be closed.
Closed. dang I want to be a mod

Okay, this is not a "what rom is best" thread. I just came back to the nexus 5, and i have been away from "the game" a year!
I only want alittle information about the different kind of roms thats allready out there.
What rom are you using, and why?
What rom do you think fits me if i like custom themes, softkeys etc? I hate circle battery.. and i love "bug free" roms.. all roms will have some bugs evantually.. but whats the most stable way to go? Stock rom with xposed? PA, or maybe CM?
is there still these soft-reboots ? i needa rom wich doesn't have those reboots, and a rom that has great theming potential.
So, let the game begin Tell me what rom you think fits me, and tell me what rom you are using and why.
This will help me and maybe others that struggle to choose a rom, alittle easier.
You can see what we're running by reading the "what are you running on your n5" thread in general.
All bugs are available in the op of ROM threats. They're mostly all stable. Soft reboots are generally a user issue. Configure your phone right and you're good.
You can theme any ROM using xposed. Otherwise look for ROMs with theme engine built in.
