anyone else running the new OTA for stock JB notice that the hotword option in Google Now is missing?
I am part of the soak test so I did report that.
I do hope it's somewhere hidden and configurable.
Would hate to have to actually tap a button when this is supposed to be more or less a hands free thing
No Hotword either???

My stock Xoom was updated OTA on Thursday with Jelly Bean and it does run smoother, but I seem to be yet another one with no option to download the offline language pack. Google Now does work but it doesn't have the 'Google' hot word recognition like what some people have on other devices. Checking the status of all my apps installed, Voice search and Google search are now incompatible, even though they are already installed. Adobe Flash is incompatible now, but I figured that; the Firefox web browser is also incompatible now. Everything else seems to be OK.

Same here though I believe this may be a symptom of a larger issue; not being able to download the offline language pack.
Language in Voice must be set to English US not UK or any other variation.

I just saw a youtube clip about someone who installed this on his droid;
Anybody tried it on the N1?
Where did you get it from?
Should be an update to your Maps app available in the Market, it didn't install for me, said package wasn't signed correctly, I was using a rom with known issues with Google Services though so I'm reflashing right now to try again. You can go to buzz.google.com in your browser to use their web app. Has a pretty clean interface.
installed and works fine on a non rooted nexus.
Got it workin on mine now too, pretty sweet.
I just installed it on my rooted nexus one here in canada and found several other people testing it out. Seems to work fine just not sure how often I will bother to load it up.
Installed on Cyanogen Beta 4 with my theme, and works perfect. Installed from market
Downloading... Installing.... WORKS.
Buzz works great through Maps, but has anyone got it working properly from the Browser via buzz.google.com? When I try to post a buzz through maps, it goes right through. But through browser, I just get the little grey "processing" spiral.
This Maps 4.0 have Navigation out of USA? Thanks
Weird... I can't find google maps on the market at all - no update or anything...
Do they roll it out gradually to people?
Or maybe it's because I installed the 2.1-patch1 myself? (didn't wait for the official notification)
My phone is stock non rooted and not unlocked.
testing.... no
Got the update last night in the android market, this is pretty cool.
Google maps is not in the market of free applications. Although free, you need to have access to the paid apps market.
How I can put Maps 4 in rooted Nexus?
Maps 4 have Navigator out of USA? I am Spanish
Sorry for my poor englishç
Thanks
I want it too, please, I want maps 4.0 with navigator in Spain, I have it rooted.
Please, could you help us?
thanks.

should be in the market. look for google maps and see which version you have installed. should be 4.0 .. if so do menu layers and buzz .. and thats it... start buzzing if you wish.
I've just restored apps after a wipe and my Google Maps is showing as 3.4. I go to market and it's not offering me an update. What can I do?
I installed the pre-rooted stock kernel from k0nane. I don't know if it was working prior to this. Anyway, I noticed that Google navigation was not speaking street names, and thought it was the problem that a lot of users were having. But when I go to Settings...Voice Input and Output...Text-to-Speech I get a force close every time. Clearly TTS is not working in ANY app. How to fix?

Stock non-rooted and stock rooted are the same minus superuser.... but you can try to wipe davlik/cache.
Problem solved - 1) I'm an idiot and 2) Never use My Backup Pro to freeze apps (though it was nice to move stuff between phones). I had frozen some TTS-related stuff that I shouldn't have, and they wouldn't defrost despite repeated attempts. Will stick with Titanium from now on.
On a related note if you change the speech engine to the Samsung one and tell it to override app settings, you get some interesting results in google nav. It reads out a bunch of XML and then gives you the direction, a couple minutes late.
I just cannot seem to figure this out..
I cannot get voice input to work on anything other than the S Voice program that came pre-installed on my phone.
I would like to use it when I text but the stock keyboard does not seem to have the microphone icon on it anymore. Now before you jump and say "I got this" I already know about the hold the settings icon in the lower left and choose the microphone. Only when I do it I dont get 4 icons, I only get 3 and the microphone isnt one of them.
I installed SKYVI from the Play Store and it tells me that my device does not support voice input. Well clearly it does, S Voice works so I checked all my settings but cannot get it working anyplace else. Same thing with the Swiftkey keyboard... it has a microphone icon but when pressed, nothing happens.
This is an Odin rooted stock ROM, nothing special about it at all. Anyone else ever see this before?

I dont know what Google Now is.. didnt see any mention of it in the Play store..
I did find this out though.. a lot of these voice apps use Google's "Voice Search" app. The Play store says I have it installed but when I search my phone I dont see it. The "My Android Apps" section of the Play store also says I have it installed on my device, and also mentions its a system app of some kind. But I dont have it, and cant install it from the Play store because its "already installed". I think if I can find the APK for this program, I can probably solve my problem? Anyone have a copy or know where I can get it?
FIXED!

I went online and did some searches away from XDA and found out what Google Now is.. looks pretty slick..
But I also managed to fix my voice input problem. Reading about Google Now got me to thinking.. I opened Root Explorer and went in to System/Apps and there was an APK of something called VoiceSearchStub.apk .. it had a different icon than I was expecting but I went ahead and installed it. I now have a Voice Search icon installed and the voice input on the keyboard now works. But for the life of me I do not know why it was not there in the first place!
Just installed it and loving it. Supposedly will only run on 4.2 or higher unless you wait for the official update on play store. I was waiting for this so figured I would share the knowledge.

My HTC One on AT&T has not gotten the Maps update yet. I downloaded the APK from Androidpolice and it's working, but now I read there is a 7.0.1 update where they added the Offline maps selection when viewing the map (as opposed to having to type "Ok Maps" in the first release). However, I cannot find an updated APK for Android 4.1.2 devices... the two APK's I downloaded which were 7.0.1 could not be parsed because I'm not on 4.2. Anyone know where I can find the 7.0.1 APK for Android 4.1.2?
Also, for those of you with HTC One's, can you confirm whether addresses from the Phone application will open the new Google Maps app? On my device, if I click on an address from the Phone/Contacts app, it doesn't do anything now, whereas before it would open the address in Google Maps (on the older version).
Anyone else?

Same here. Actually, when I tap an address in contacts, it opens at&t navigator, which I am not using. I disabled it and now nothing happens at all when you tap the address. I was hoping that by disabling the at&t navigator it would default back to Google maps.
Also, if you just tap in the empty search bar, it will bring up the information cards. Just scroll down to the bottom and the option to store the map offline is already there in this version.

Yeah, somehow the contacts app just lost connection to the maps app with this version, so even if you don't have another app set as default, it just does nothing when you click an address. My initially was opening Glympse because I had that installed, but even after uninstalling it, it still isn't opening Maps. Definitely a bug between the HTC contacts app and the new Maps... which means it's probably not going to fixed for some time. I'm hoping that the upcoming HTC One update to 4.2 will fix it... but who knows when AT&T will be rolling that out. I'm not interested at this time in rooting my phone and installing a custom rom to try to fix this.
Thanks for the tip about the offline maps setting, I found it.
EDIT: There is still a way to get a contact address to appear in the new maps. Just start typing the name of the contact that has an associated address and it'll show up in the search results. Not as convenient, but at least it's a workaround for now!
I like it but driving along the navigation lags behind where I actually am

I received the 7.0.1 update through the Play store this afternoon (I'm on AT&T stock 4.1.2). When I click on addresses in Contacts it gives me the option to open the address with AT&T Navigator or Waze but not Maps. Not sure what the behavior was with earlier versions of Maps because I never tried it before now.

The correct behavior would be to ask you what app to use for links, including the Maps app. But since the link to Maps is broken, it is just asking you amongst your other compatible apps. If you don't have any other compatible apps, it will do nothing when you select an address.
Note that this just happens in the Phone/Contacts app though in Sense. If you use Chrome or another Google app that has an address or map link, it will still open in the new Maps. So it might be something HTC has to fix, or it might be something just broken with the API in the new Maps app. Only time will tell, but as I mentioned, you can start typing a contact name in the new Maps app, and it will show the address, so that's a workaround for now.
I had to uninstall and reinstall old version. If I zoom out past a certain point, the map doesn't render.. I'm on ARHD 12 if that matters.

It's hard to say whether it's your custom rom or not, but the maps renders fine at all zoom levels on my HTC One running 4.1.2 stock.
Hello ;0)
I noticed a strange behaviour on my Nexus 5 (or maybe Google changed something?):
On my Nexus 4 I had an option in the settings of Google Now to activate some apps that I could search "within" the Google Search. All I had to do was to activate them and then, on the bottom of the search results, I would swipe the small bar to the right till I got to the phone entry and it would show me search results from the specified apps and I could open the app from there and it would take me to the result within the app.
For example: A search for "Sarah Miche" would pop up as "Sarah Michelle Gellar" with an imdb and a wikipedia icon, I clicked that and the wikipedia/imdb app would start and open the page about Sarah Michelle Gellar.
I quite liked that and used it a lot...
On my Nexus 5 however the option is gone. The settings are still there. In Google Now under settings-phone search but it just enables me to search apps/Chrome Beta/Contacts/Play Movies. And "apps" will just allow me to search for apps I installed on my phone not to search "inside" those apps. (See screenshots)
So I thought "Meeehhhhh, f****. They removed a feature I really liked. Guess I have to live with that..."
Now for the strange part:
I installed google search and GEL on my tablet (running Android 4.3) an the option is still there (but it´s called "tablet-search" and "tablet")
AND IT´S WORKING... (See screenshots) Same freaking Google-Search build, same freaking GEL-build....
Am I doing something wrong ?!?!? Does my phone hate me ? What´s up with that ?
Any help would be appreciated ;0)
Thanks ...
P.s.: Sorry my phone and my tablet are in german but you should get the picture ;0)
Same here, I don't even have "Chrome Beta" in the list.
But therein probably lies the answer: Google changed the way how Apps can "apply" to be shown in this list and not even the latest stock Chrome version has this feature yet (but the newer Beta does).
Also it seems to be a problem for the new GEL only, the list still works properly on my N10 with Google Search 3.1.8.x.
I've read mention of a new API for this functionality and that devs need to apply it to their apps. Just weird that Google itself hasn't applied it to all their apps.

Think you can find more info on that? As a developer I'd like to know, as my app uses the global search feature and it stopped working recently.

Any news on this?
On a side note, I created a question on Stackoverflow with the same issue.
On my nexus 7 2012 I installed the 3.1 from the Nexus 5 a few weeks ago. After a reset of Google Search data the tablet search broke like on your Nexus 5...but I only noticed it when I upgraded to kitkat. I obviously thought it was kitkat the problem until today.
The problem is how Google Search 3.x handles the list. There must be a bug of some sort.
Here's why:
On my htc one s with cm10.2 (4.3) I reset the data of Search 3.1.8 to try something only to discover that the Phone Search list was almost empty like on my tablet!
I uninstalled it and the 2.6.7 version was restored from /system/app. The phone search list was full now, even after I updated to 3.1.8.
So, basically, if you open Google Search 2.x and then you update to 3.x the list will be there like it always did.
Who updated to kitkat without resetting the data won't have any problems (or whoever update to 3.1.8 on any phone\tablet without data reset)

I found this commit in AOSP, which might be related:
https : // android.googlesource.com/platform/packages/apps/QuickSearchBox/+/ecf356c15143ab0583c64682de16d94a57f7dd1c
The commit message tells us that this feature was removed due to performance reasons (which might or might not be true, given that it references an internal ticket id and I didn't find a public issue here about this).
Since this part of the quicksearchbox is included in the ROM and released with Android 4.4, it doesn't matter which version of Google-Search you have installed. As long as you have updated to Android Kitkat 4.4 or newer, you won't be able to search the contentproviders of installed apps.
Nevertheless, I found this nifty, but ugly and ad-driven little app, which mimics device-search:
https : // play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.startapp.quicksearchbox
You should decline the initial request and ignore its Android 2.x-ugliness, though.
It takes some getting used to, but it works.

was a very usefull option :crying::crying::crying:
Hello I have installed Archidroid 2.5 ROM, but I have a problem with the research on the phone.
When I enter in the settings of google and now I open the page "search on the phone" there is no app is completely empty.
So I can not look in the app Email.
I think this problem is related to the app Google now.
So there is no way to make it work on the Cyano rom based?
Possible solution
Try to uninstall Google Search and do a update from Google Play. Worked for me.
