app refuses to run due to rooted phone - Samsung Infuse 4G

I am using Uniporn ICS and trying to run an app from my cable company (Time Warner in upstate NY) the app has a feature to let me watch live tv on the phone if using ICS but when I try to use that feature it tells me that rooted phones are not supported. Anyone have a clue as to how to get around that issue?

There's a temp unroot function in the super user app...just make sure you have thewest version from playstore

Sorry, was worth a shot :/, I wonder what they have against rooted phones....I mean even the att bloat works on a rooted phone, as well as the samsung bloat...so if the manufacturer and the carrier don't block there apps from rooted phones...then why should a cable company? I would send the devs an email and complain...hell ill download the app and complain myself
What twc app is it?

Netflix from lg revolution?

Will the preloaded netflix application on the lg revolution work on the tb? Same processor and drm?

why would you want that. The tbolt already has netflix...unofficial support but still.
Maybe they are hoping for working Netflix for Froyo.

Actually it doesn't. Only if rooted and running certain roms. Unrooted we get drm notifications and that's it. The Revolution has the same processor and built in drm. So I'm hoping it will work.
Sent from my ADR6400L using Tapatalk
i dont think so since the netflix app checks the kind of phone your using to access the servers i thought, only gb roms (and now with the radio brick issue its time to wait a little bit more) and a hack/fix will netflix work.

It is also running on the cm7 rom, though the quality didn't seem nearly as good on cm7. It was great on the gb roms. Shame about the loop issue because I was diggin gingerbread and netflix.

I don't think it has the same drm. The hardware drm, sure, but not software. We may be able to extract that though and get it to work.

Sent from my ADR6400L using Tapatalk
It's not a DRM issue, it's the stagefright libs. Search the forums because there is more info already here. On my phone or I'd link it for you.
Sent from my ADR6400L using Tapatalk
Yeah, the only way you're going to get it working ever on froyo is if you compile and add in the necessary libraries that are missing (stagefright is the frontend wrapper method of streaming on android since 2.2 and underwent some major revisions since then). Doesn't matter where the Netflix application comes from at all. Unless you want to compile them or wait for someone to or pay someone to, you wont be seeing it until gingerbread is stable if you're rooted or whenever netflix decides to be nice and "officially" release it for those that won't root.
If you don't root, then thats your choice, just please no whining when you made your choice and have to wait it out for netflix to care about you (which for all anyone knows could be months away). Can't have the best of everything if you want to stay with what verizon gave you.
I don't think it would, just a guess though. By the way, do we have a Revolution forum? I don't see one in the list unless it is under a different name. I should be getting one shipped soon. It is ugly as hell IMHO.

[Q] WiFi hotspot

Ok i was wondering if rooting the phone would get around my gf paying the 15$ like i do with my myTouch, with using a native program? I know theres an alternative, WiFi tether, but is that blocked too? She already has a granfathered unlimited data plan. Let me know I'm not too sure about Samsung & At&t
Sent from my HTC Glacier using Tapatalk
I am like 99.9% sure that the infuse and refuse roms have wifi hotspot enabled by default so you don't have to change your plan. You might want to search in that forum to be 100% as Im sure someone has asked already

did the search for ya, it was answered and yes its enable without adding the tethering plan, enjoy!!!

otherwise you SHOULD be able to use titanium backup to freeze the tethering manager apk. not entirely sure what the exact name of it is, but you need to disable that to let the built in tethering work (and to stop at&t from detecting some third party program tethering)
or yeah, you can install a custom rom (which already removed this little bit of at&t bloatware)
edit: tethermanger0326.apk is the apk (or something close to that)
Of course, after you do this, be careful with your usage patterns otherwise the Tether Police will still catch you.
Ok is there like a stock rom that's rooted & has those features? She's new to Android & loves the touchwiz. I'm an HTC guy so I'm not sure. I'm trying to keep it simple for her with the stock feel?
Sent from my HTC Glacier using Tapatalk
Do you/she want a new rom? Because the easiest and quickest way is to do the above mentioned of downloading titanium back up (paid version) snd freezing the tethermanager apk. Super simple and quick. Less work than doing the rom route... good luck.

No she doesn't, she doesn't wanna change anything but to get around shelling out 15$ for hotspot like I do on my myTouch. But don't you need to be rooted to freeze apps in titanium? Or could I root it, download Superuser & then do it?

Getting videos through the Market

I am not able to view videos from the Market. It doesn't show up at all. I went to the web market and I see the Videos app from Google, but it tells me that it is incompatible with my phone. My wife's Inspire is not rooted and the market doesn't have the video tab for her neither. It is because it is not officially supported for the Inspire, although it is said that it works for non rooted Inspires. There is an apk floating around here that will allow you to do a manual install.

URL associations with apps removed from ALL thunderbolt, possibly all HTC phones soon

This is a widespread issue among thunderbolt users, but I haven't seen a thread here yet.
I haven't accepted the OTA update from earlier this week, but last night my phone booted with what I assume was a update. Now, any URL can only be directed to the Web browser, not an individual app (for example, Google play links link to the play website, not the app. Same with youtube links). There's not too much out there about it, but from what I've seen, this is due to a new patent lawsuit from apple directed at HTC. Apparently HTC laid down and just removed the function. This is terrible and pretty much ruins the phones functionality.
As of right now the only work around I've heard of is custom roms. Personally I don't have that option as this is a corporate phone. Has anyone heard anything or does anyone have any ideas for a work around? I imagine what would work would be a fake "browser" that you would set as the default and just would reroute to apps, but I certainly don't have the developing know-how to make such a thing.
Sent from my ADR6400L using XDA
With the HTC One series, there's a new "App Associations" menu that allows you to assign what apps will be used for various link types... is there no equivalent in the new OTA update for the Thunderbolt?
After the update there is that setting in the applications menu under settings
Sent from my HTC Mecha using XDA
This is frustrating.
I updated to the software update and regret it to the fullest extent. Now NO videos of Youtube open in the app. This is a headache.
There is a new "apps association" menu in settings now, under Applications menu. But there is NO option to set YOUTUBE as a default like it used to be with ease.
Anybody here have a way around this??
What I found is using Opera Mini helps this by making it one less step to open videos in the app. But still miss the old direct way.
Help people!!
This is due to the patent judgment against HTC by Apple. The same judgment that recently delayed the release of the One X and the EVO 4G LTE. This feature will be removed in all future HTC releases.

I went with browser swap, but that doesn't really help with YouTube links. Maybe someone will stand up and code an app?

You can't. Apple patented the tech, all they will do is go after a new developer of such an app. Your best bet is to root, run titanium backup, and flash a custom rom that is based on an older Thunderbolt ROM if you want the feature back.

That's not exactly some HTC key/core feature. It's in every Android phone and part of the Android source itself. Even the Galaxy Nexus does it. It's not even a phone specific feature. PCs have done it for years using file://some-local-filesystem-point and using sockets to link apps to other apps. That's all Android does pretty much. Since everyone should be rooted on here (the thunderbolt is painful if you don't), it doesn't affect anyone.
Also I see no source links in your post. Means nothing if you can't link to something verifiable.

[Q] How to tether without extra charges or root?

Hello All. I've searched the forum and have seen many threads about tethering, but I can't find the answer to my specific question...or maybe I'm blind and am just missing it, in which case, I apologize for posting something that has already been answered.
Anyway, I want to tether with my verizon S3 but of course I don't want to pay extra for data I pay for already, nor do I want to root my device, at least not yet. I've heard many things that verizon can't charge for tethering if you have a tiered plan, but when I try to use the built in mobile hotspot it says I am not subscribed and to call verizon. Am I missing something? Didn't there used to be a built in wifi tethering functionality into android?
More specifically, I want to tether my Nexus 10.
Have you tried clockworkmod tether? Never used it but he does great work and it doesn't require root.

I'd prefer to not root my phone right now. Also, I used to use FoxFi on my Bionic, yes I owned one of those, and it worked great. So I tried it on the S3 (no root) and I couldn't get the Nexus 10 to find the tethered wifi network I set up.
neither require root. clockwork does require to install a program on your comp, might not work for you. check out foxfi.

Yeah problem with CWM tether is that I don't want it for the computer...want it for the Nexus 10 tablet. And FoxFi's network it creates can't be found by the Nexus 10 for some reason.
Yea Foxfi is no root need bro. Just keep playing with it I have had to mess around a few times with settings but always got it. I my first recommendation is keep security off for your first connection then after you connect try it with security.
I use it on my phone and my wife uses it on here locked down tiger than the Whitehouse razor.
