Just received the htc one s today,I must say im impressed even coming from a galaxy nexus which i still have.The one s is so smooth and i must say i like sense 4, stock android got a little boring after awhile.Hate it if you want but sense brings some useful features to the table and it looks professional unlike touch wiz and the cartoon icons.Even tho its pentile amoled the screen looks much better than the galaxy nexus hd amoled screen reason mostly because of the blobs and lines on the nexus.Im huge on music and htc seems to always have better sound cards/drivers than sammy.Overall im happy with both phones i will occasionally switch back and forth when im bored now all i have to do is order a micro sim adapter =( and root but ill hold out till dev picks up
I too came from a Galaxy Nexus, and thus far, I'm happy I made the trade (equal swap, Galaxy Nexus with box and accessories new condition for a new condition One S with box and accessories).
The main reason I made the trade was because my Nexus had the worst case of the blues (and yellows). It had the worst blue-ish/yellow-ish tint/hue I've seen on any S-Amoled phone I've owned. The SGS2 I have is a lower res, but the S-Amoled Plus made a big difference in regards to generating accurate whites without a yellow layer looming over.
Ultimately I'm happy I made the swap and I actually realized that I prefer the 4.3 inch display with the soft capacitive buttons over the 4.65. I'm also one of the rare folks who prefers the pentile qHD display due to everything looking a bit sharper, which has been much easier on my eyes.
Glad you like the One S, I'm completely satisfied with mines so far and for the first time in 6 months of switching back and forth between phones, I've got a keeper, and have found the "One".
I havent really found the right one yet there seems to be flaws with all the phones in the past 6 months iv'e owned (iphone 4) lack of hspa+ speed on tmobile (sensation 4g)dust under screen over heating(amaze 4g)horrible battery life(galaxy s2)blobs and lines on screen,call echo with case on(galaxy nexus)i got lucky had minimal lines on screen only on extremely low lights.And now the one s.I love both the nexus and one s maybe i'll sell both and get the galaxy s3 when it comes out.But for now im enjoying it while my nexus gathers dust.

Haha, we're all almost identical in the phone's we've owned in the past 6 months.
I had (still have) an iPhone 4 (I know, dirty right? The games are still great, despite the smaller screen), and I also couldn't use it due to lack of 3G and running on slow ass edge. Also had an HTC Amaze with HORRIBLE battery, SGS2 had blobs, but the colors were great and battery life wasn't as bad once I flashed a great ICS Rom on it (shout out to TDJ for Darkside Evolution ICS port), Galaxy Nexus, which I actually liked, but personally, thought it was a bit too big and the screen color issues killed it for me, and now the One S, which I have yet to put down to be honest. My wife has been berating me about the time I spend with this phone (or all phones for that matter) as opposed to you know, couple things, but I can't help it, there's just so many choices!
The galaxy S2 wasnt bad at all i only jumped ship when i seen the nexus for 400.I ended up selling my white t989 for 450 and getting the nexus for 442 tax and shipping included..The t989 forums has little dev activity but they do have great devs most notably Eugene373 for his cm7 and muiu kangs..Since you've had the One S a bit longer than I is there any issues?And also hows the battery life so far.Its on par with the t989 on my end but i've only received the phone today..

So far battery imo has been better then the Nexus, and about on par with the SGS2, slightly better. I use Juice Defender to boost battery life, and it's helped. I've gotten up to 11 hours of very very heavy usage on the One S playing Temple Run for long periods of time, surfing the web, playing more temple run, texting, emailing, phone calls, navigation and gps, downloading apps, fiddling with the OS, etc, and this is all stock. I haven't rooted or installed a rom, I'm strictly stock as of right now. There's a few animation glitches here and there.
For example, when scrolling through the Gmail widget, the widget will think I'm trying to resize it, which gets annoying, but if you scroll slowly, you won't have that issue. I'm sure the carrier will send a fix for these minor mishaps.
Otherwise I've had a few data connectivity issues, and I live in a pretty good HSPA+ location where I get 15-22mb down and about 5-7 up. It sometimes goes into airplane mode on it's own only to turn back on, and I realize this because I'll get the notification for the same voicemail I haven't checked for 2 days. It doesn't happen very often and when it does, you probably won't even notice.
That's pretty much all I've spotted thus far, it's been great otherwise and I'm having fun playing with the stock build until I end up rooting it and flashing a rom (if I end up doing so, I'm enjoying stock enough to not feel it necessary to do so).
Plus, been getting great benchmarks, roughly 5000 on quadrant, which is much higher then stock ICS on the G-Nexus and the SGS2.
It's zippy, it's quick, it works well, Sense 4.0 isn't overbloated or cartoonish like TouchWiz, and it's thin enough to catch people's attention and ask me what it is.
So ultimately, I think you'll end up enjoying this device. It's really much cleaner and more fluid of an experience over the Amaze, and has just about the right battery life to get you through the day with moderate to high use.

I haven't bought a case yet, I went to a kiosk in our local Galleria called "Gadget Guard", they went ahead and installed a complete body cover, great quality, perfect installation on the front and back, doesn't compromise the speaker grills, camera, or the flash. It also doesn't have the quasi-ridges that you see on Zagg protectors. So I'm content with this thus far until I see a nice case. Thing is, the phone is so elegant as is, so thin and feels great in the hand, that I feel somewhat bad casing it up. But on the other end, it's cash in my hand, so I have to protect my investment!
I hadn't seen those Cruzer cases, just googled it, those look sweet.

I'm in the EXACT same position as you. Love both and will be switching between the two. Hate touchwiz and Samsung and love HTC. Oh well.

It came down to the One S or the Galaxy Nexus for me and I am glad that I went with the One S. The design of the phone is just too beautiful. I've had the AOSP experience on ICS and I'm okay with Sense being on top. A phone that is 5 months ahead of another phone really proves what it can improve on and the One S is proof of that.
I too came from the Nexus Prime, and I like the screen of the one S better than the nexus, especially considering that the nexus had an HD screen. I also had the international one X and that screen is just AMAZING but unfortunately would not get T-Mobile 3G or 4G so I got the one S instead & I'm loving it. Slim design, excellent battery life and great screen. Only thing I would like would be a 32GB version like the one X and on screen keys like the nexus but overall I like it. The battery last way longer than the nexus.

I've had this phone for about 10 days now and I'm coming from a GSM Galaxy Nexus 4.0.4 which I still love and adore. Having said that I've decided I'm keeping this phone because like with everything while not perfect, the benefits to it outweigh the downsides. Here's my take:
Things I love about One X:
- Screen is spectacular and best I've ever seen yet. Puts Nexus to shame. Hard going back to Nexus after using the One X
- Camera - best camera I've ever used on any mobile device yet. Not just optics but the software is fantastic. Love the burst mode/best shot, HDR actually does something, panaroma, etc. Especially coming from Nexus, it's a HUGE improvement
- LTE - yes it eats battery like nothing else but god damn it's fast and it's glorious. My first cell phone didn't have data and the first one with data had GPRS (not even EDGE) so the fact I can be standing somewhere and get 25mbps down is just mind boggling. Love it.
- CPU - the S4 is a beast, I have a PS Vita and an iPad3 so I don't need my phone to be a gaming powerhouse but this thing flies. Noticeably faster for me in many apps than the Nexus and web browsing is desktop class. I can even leave Flash to always on and I don't even notice! Definitely future proof for at least another year.
- Build quality - superb and feels very solid. NO creaking and it's light but does not feel cheap. Galaxy Nexus feels great too but still feels cheaper and flimsy compared to One X. I have the white one and it looks very very nice.
- Bluetooth 4.0 - had some problems on stock ROM (related to wifi I think) but with 1.82 it's very stable and works great. Future proofing for newer devices coming now with 4.0. I'm a big Bluetooth user so nice having the latest spec.
Things I really don't like about the One X:
- Sense 4.0 - yes it's better than previous ones (I had an Incredible and a Sensation) but it's still a piece of crap. Unnecessary UI animations and changes just for the fact they want to change things. YES there are nice little tweaks they've done but those are for me the ones under the hood and not really UI ones. The memory management/multitasking thing is a great example of one gone wrong but for me personally, I LOVE stock ICS and I can't wait for an unlocked bootloader so I can run a stock AOKP ROM on it.
- WiFi - although the 1.82 RUU seems to have fixed it somewhat, it's still flaky. I have to have "best wifi performance" checked otherwise notifications don't always come through when phone is asleep.
- Battery life - I guess I can't be too hard on it because of the screen, CPU and LTE but it still is quite unpredictable. It's NOT BAD but it's not great for me yet either. I'm sure I'll get it to a point where it'll be reliable but right now it seems all over the place.
- Power button - why in god's name do the morons at HTC stick the power/sleep button on the top of the phone when every other manufacturer has realized it's more logical to put it on the side. Especially on a 4.7" phone!! Idiots. This is annoying but I can live with it.
- Wide phone - the screen is only .5 " bigger than the Nexus but the phone is much wider in my hand and not as comfortable but not a deal breaker for me.
- AT&T Crapware - can be disabled but irritating they loaded it up with so much garbage.
- NO Google Wallet support - I MISS THIS the most from Nexus. I have a Citi card setup and used it a ton daily but now I can't
There is probably more but these are the highlights. So yes, the phone is far from perfect but I'm not getting rid of my Nexus so I will still have that. This phone has what I'm looking for which is the camera, screen, network and cpu that beats my current phone...so I'll look past the other stuff that bothers me - at least until I can flash stock ICS on it.

Just went back to my Nexus for a bit and I have to keep brightness at 50%. Anything less and the Nexus display hurts my eyes after spending time with the OneX. However software wise it feels so good.
Keeping the OneX but so so happy to have a Nexus I can take a break and go back to.

Regarding the power button, I've owned 7 phones so far, different manufactures and all of them had power button on top. Doesn't bother me a single bit.
However the volume buttons placed on the opposite side of 3.5 jack is a bad design, because with this configuration you can't access them when the phone in the belt pouch. The 3.5 jack kind of forcing the pouch being on left side, making the buttons be at the bottom.

Its annoying but not a huge issue for me yet. I also plan on rooting soon and customizing. I believe part of the issue is the minfree setting which you should be able to edit with root. Also it can't be far off before custom ROMs based on AOSP will be out. Just waiting for the boot loader to be unlocked.

Have not experienced LTE yet, but I am on "4G" here in Utah. We will get LTE by the end of the year I guess.
The screen on this thing is down right beastly. Just amazing. Compared to my iPhone 4s, damn.
I don't mind the multitasking to be honest coming from an iPhone where I never used it. It suites me fine.
Camera isn't great, I don't believe as good as the iPhone 4s, but still one of the best I have seen so far.
So far battery life I get around 16 hours, not bad, but not great.
Phone quality is there as well. No complaints from me.
I guess the only downside so far for me is the google wallet. I was really wanting to use that when switching over to android. Hopefully it will happen via att or root at some point.

I'm about to bring mine back because of the multi tasking. I have my gnex in my draw and it wants to go back into action. Once things get sorted out and boot loader unlocked I'll probably but another HOX

I can't see any trouble with the One X in anyway. Multitasking if your asking me.... I switch between 2 or 3 apps at the most. I don't do gaming with it. Mostly use it for processing capacity and some programing, emails, sms, whatsapp, im+, documents to go etc... I don't use any of the stock application and most of the stock/htc apps are disabled. I've installed what I needed to operate the phone and software. Space wise... geez I have plenty of space left 6GB left after loading nearly 120 mp3's on. As if anyone is going to go through that amount in just a few days... I swap my music every month or so and never seem to be a problem. I have e nearly 3000 pictures on top of that....
I'm really wondering if it's most just because people are whining then actually having issues... just because it doesn't fit their tiny little needs... Almost also seems like you want your hand held phone to replace your desktop/laptop PC... well unless they have better batteries in the future.
LTE is great don't get me wrong but unless I'm going to transfer a large file... it's disabled just because it kills the battery. With just 4G on I can get roughly 27hrs worth of juice. I'm quite happy with that.

Hey that's fine but they should give us the option under the development menu. I don't need my battery to last forever. I have an office with a phone charger. I'm not worried about getting 22+ hours of battery life.

More options = more confusion. You must remember, we are all like experts with android phones here on xda. Usually people are still learning how to answer a phone call on day 3 of their first smart phone, let alone an android. The wonderful part about android, and this site, is that you'll get custom roms with that option sooner rather than later. If HTC decided this was the way they wanted multitasking to improve battery life, they are going to stick with it. I appreciate OP for bringing up such a post, as i feel that the HTC One X is really a great phone (its actually perfect for me!)
Unlike others, i never see most of the commonly faced problems on the forum while using my One X.
Here are the reasons i like the One X
1. SCREEN : No doubt the best screen ever.
2. BUILD Quality is superb and the design is sleek which i like. I dont ming the unibody design or the non-expandable memory/battery.
3. BATTERY : My phone gets me through a day with heavy use easily and by the time i charge it for the night i usually have 30% charge remaining, thats almost 16 hrs with moderate - heavy usage ( temple run, reddit, voice calls etc etc). Also i am in an area with LTE. I hardly notice the drain in battery bcoz of LTE. (my wifi and data are on all the time)
4. CAMERA : has tonnes of options and better than most cell phone cameras today.
MULTI-TASKING : i have never faced any issue with it. if i exit the game (using home button), then it resumes back at the same point. Likewise, for the other apps.
Wi-Fi : Again, i never faced any issues, i have always received the emails etc promptly (maybe not immediately, but the delay isnt significant enough for me to worry. Maybe 2-3 mins max)
SENSE : This is the only thing i dont like on my phone. would've loved a stock ICS experience.
In the end, am extremely happy with my phone, as i feel its a beautiful premium hardware.
I am about to buy a new phone in the next month or so. I have been following the new phone release and seems like HTC One X and S III are the ones I am considering. I have had galaxy S for 2 years and it is time to upgrade.
I really like the solid design of the One X, it looks better, feels sturdier, screen is better... And my question is, if I am going to put custom ROMs on my phone, why should I choose One X over the S III (international versions)? My only strong point for the S III is the bigger battery and better contrast. But some say it is faster..
I do not care about removable battery and extra storage.

Within two months, you will get bored of the touchwiz ui. But one x has sense and if you like it, with a little modifications, and with custom roms, you will never get bored of your phone

I'm kind of in the same boat. I haven't held the S3 yet so I don't know how it looks/feels in the hand. The OneX feels solid and comfortable to me. I think the OneX with a Sense-less ICS ROM would be super fast and more enjoyable. I'm leaning that way with my decision.

Go for the S3. Bigger development, cm9 from people who actually build from source themselves and i would trust my life in their hands so to speak. Codeworkx and Xplowild could not get any better and really wished they supported the One X but that is not going to happen, more AOSP and AOKP roms for the S3 and you probably get the best kernel developer i know and that Gokhanmoral as well...And the list goes on. One x might be better looking but you have so much more going for the S3 which is supercurio for one releasing his app for it specially with the better sound chip for it and well i can go on..
One X is a great phone with great potential..but with all the replacements i had and with their poor service and Quality Control have left a bad taste in my mouth and will never go for HTC again...Do not get me wrong development for this phone is only just getting started..But if you are a samsung boy and loved the development on the s2 then s3 is the place to be for you..just wished i waited a bit longer
But seriously my best advice to you..Wait a few more weeks. Watch videos and watch comparisons...And then make a judgement on yourself on what you need the phone for. Sense is ten times better than TW no doubt. But like i said take your time and do your research..And if you do go for the One X make sure you get a phone which is build like a gold phone..Make sure it is perfect and solid..Then you will not regret it
Real world speed is the same. Both have minor flaws and particular strengths. For me, the s3 is less aestheticaly pleasing (read:yuk) and the screen has a pink hue on greys, I can't stand touch wiz and I dislike the unrealistic colours on amoled screens.

I agree I had a go on the one x saw sense and the shell and was like I want it! Glad I did as I dislike the look of the s3 not that it is ugly or anything hox just appeals to me more.

The truth is i am bored with my samsung galaxy S... so if i get the S III will be the same feeling. I always though HTC phones look sexier and simply better.. but looking at some reviews a couple of things scare me. For example, when browsing the way it redraws while zooming; multitasking when switching programs also redraws.. the small battery also does not give me great confidence..

The HOX looks far better, the bluey coloured SIII looks very cheap, and to me the proportions look wrong on the front - weird angle curves, and too much bezel at top and bottom.
AMOLED provides less than realistic colours, if its anything like the SII and youre used to a properly calibrated TV/PC Monitor you'll laugh.
Having had a pentile display phone before the One X (Droid 3) no matter what the PPI youre going to notice the Pentile matrix on font and icon edges if you have the screen relatively close to your face, like when you're reading it in bed or something. Minor niggle but it annoyed me. Reading on the One X is like reading a magazine, it looks printed on.
The only positive for me is the bigger battery, but in real world usage i.e. Web Browsing itll only offer you about 40 mins more according to GSM Arena due to the high draw of the AMOLED display on white. Video life is about 4 hours longer, though. Saying that, if you have time to watch a video you'd be in a situation where you could use HTC's small battery bank to see you through it on the one x and have battery left to play with on a flight or long outing (should have a car charger so incar use wouldn't be an issue).
Regarding the above, GSMArena's battery life tests are very unscientific. The One X's display is among the brightest, and far brighter than the SII (double brightness nearly) so if the SIII is the same, the battery life at similar brightness to the One X's default levels would be negligable in texting/browsing/everyday use, again, bar video playback.
There is also the element of standing from the crowd a little - the One X is in my opinion (and many reviewers) the best looking phone to date - It matters to me to enjoy looking at something I use so often, so it helps.
Custom ROMS will come as well, its a major device with global variants so CM9 support will come I'd assume.
As far as build goes, I have sent one back but only because I'm very picky and the screen gap on the left was a tiny bit too much for my liking but I'm pretty sure 75% of the people on the replacement threads have got OCD with the number of replacements theyre having, or they use their phones punishingly. I didnt have flicker after the latest OTA either. The flex is the major issue regarding build, but my Dad's iPhone has the same thing if you press on the edges of the screens, every phone has it.

Im a fairly heavy user and the battery is great for me.
Streaming radio/and mp3 is all done with the companion core for example and with screen off the battery graph is basically flat even whilst streaming over HSPA for a good while.
I can get 4/4hr30 web browsing and if you think about it, you don't need any more than that - with any phone nowadays youre looking at an overnight charge really so it makes no odds whether that number is a bit less or a bit more.
The browser redraw is instantaneous, and looks good - the text fades and fades back as an effect rather than jerking all the text round like opera - you dont notice the time it takes.
Multitasking Fix This may be of great use - it was to me on my Droid 3 and I noticed weird settings posted on here in HTC's default Build.prop that explain IMO the memory Issues people are perceiving.
Multitasking can easily be fixed in build prop. Some of the default HTC settings baffle me. Or use RomToolbox by JRummy
Ive not rooted yet but on my D3 (512mb ram) I used dirty ratio 70% (HOX default is 0%....!) Dirty background 90% (Hox default is 30%) and vfs cache pressure 10. Hox default is 100. This makes android flush the cache less often, saving battery and eliminating stutter, keeps apps in background ram leaving you where you left off and doesn't negatively impact on battery life or degrade performance over time. I've no idea why the HOX's default settings are so aggressive - unless they thought users might get an errant app, leave it running and complain when they dont know why the battery is draining... kill OOM allocating task was also a yes.
On my Droid 3 with the above settings, I could infinitely multitask (VM Heap of 48mb - but on HOX you could easily double that for more tabs in browser etc) and my battery gained a perceived time of about an hour at least - maybe more, due to the apps always remaining open and CPU time not having to be used reopening them and redrawing the past state they were in because theyve been pushed out of RAM.
I researched the above for ages when I had my D3 (even with 512 ram Moto's settings were way less aggressive than HTC's are at default) and made sure they wouldn't cause lag over time, or loss of performance over time - as well as providing optimal battery life.
Finally!
If you're planning on keeping the phone for some time (I can't see much that can improve on this, heck I wouldnt have got rid of my D3 had i not bricked it!) HTC are very good with software updates, the best around on unbranded devices really. They've just listed devices to recieve ICS - and those included some devices that were 18 Months old with a single core processor. This would suggest to me the One X will not only get Jelly Bean, but probably the next iteration (Released end of summer/fall 2013 most likely), should the hardware requirements not change massively (although 1gb RAM and Quad Core looks pretty safe for 18 months IMO).

I myself am coming from a galaxy s. Not sure how much the amoled screen is worse than the s2 on the s1 in comparison. I do know,however, that this super LCD2 screen on my htc one x is a thing that's going to be difficult to leave should I ever have to decide between this phone or a super amoled phone in the future.
Browsing-wise: I think we are all going to end up using google chrome in the long run. With the updates it gets, i believe it's sooner or later going to be the browser everyone's going to replace their original browser with.
I personally use google chrome browser on my phone myself. It's much faster than other IMO. Especially loading time is amazing and super smooth.
Battery is debatable. Personally, I wish i could squeeze an hour more hour out of my phone. On a full use I easily hit the 3 hours mark screen on time(3h 10m~). Probably just like most One X owners. Depending on your phone usage though, it's safe to say that the battery life on the HTC One X on standy by is godlike Seen people go for 4 days.
The highest i have reached was 3 hours 31 minutes. I think i could have even exceeded that by now but i just don't bother anymore and plug the phone in before it depletes.
It gets me through a day with ease plus i don't know what htc is up to. As far as I know this phone still needs optimization(take what i say with a grain of salt on this part). As I have no idea if the battery is going to improve in future or not. Just my gut feeling tells me it is, but a gut feeling is just that, a gut feeling. I wish HTC would at least communicate with us users more. Really kind of disappointing on their part.
Oh well, this is the insight i'm capable of giving.
p.s: i'm not one of those users who had to send his phone in for multiple replacements. So yeah, i can understand the users who do suggest the S3 for alone that reason. Because we all just want a phone that functions and don't want to constantly have it replaced just to replace it again.

Yeah! This is actually true as well. Considering the fact that SG3 has got more support. Or at least that's what I always read and i don't doubt it. Probably a customized rom for the gs3 will be running better than the one x's.
Other negatives for the HOX include quality control with the screen flex and squeeky noises at least thats what I get!
With s-on am currently locked down so am having to wait for the network provider to bring about all the fixes in the updates unless I use custom roms but then I can't change the radio etc due to s-on..... Would be great if the phone was cracked in that sense.
Also the soundchip is not that great, could be better.
Battery is bad for me due to being on older firmware so screen on time is about 2hrs and the battery is dead.....
Currently sent mine back to htc due to hardware issues.....
I would wait to see the SIII however i cant't see samsung moving away from using inferior plastic for the shell. This spoils everything.
Also, the cool software will be ported shortly therefore I can't see a reason for choosing the SIII over the HOX. It's all about feeling in the hand........

Its a matter of choice. Both HTC and samsung stock UIs are horrible in my eyes. The main differentiating factor is the more powerful CPU in the galaxy s3, expandable memory and removable/better battery. Its downsides are the pentile display and cheap look.
Both will come with many custom ROMS so flashing a custom rom holds no advantage for the one X
If your getting the HTC ONE X over the Galaxy S3 get ready for some poor battery life
Don't know what you guys expect with battery life on the one x to be honest, I love my HOX , I can run it with several phone calls and texts, bit of browsing on here, read books daily and usually get a couple days out of the battery, yes, if you hammer it with games like riptide, then be prepared for it to eat battery, but I imagine that will be no different on any quad core phone

As always, this is a question of tastes, likes and dislikes.
Looking only at the specs, the S3 is better.
But looking at practicability I think the One S is better.
If you don't care for the money go for the S3.
The benefits of the one s over the s3 are better price, better haptic due to the smaller screen and better touch due to the aluminium body.
On the other side the s3 comes with bigger battery, sd card support, better screen (hd), better cpu and probably the bigger fanbase in the future... Therefore more developers.
I don't use touchwiz or sense so this wouldnt matter for me.

this is what ive been wondering. i have till the 18th to return my htc one s if i dont like it (since i get 30 days to return it here in california). ive had reboots, signal going in and out which has been driving me nuts and wifi calling dropping calls for no reason when i have full wifi signal. also i think the gs3 looks like crap to me and cheap and the htc one s looks way better, but the GS3 does have better features (IMO) then the htc one s.

Firstly the GS 3 does NOT have a better processor, just because it is "quad" does not mean that it is better
The S/XL/X AT&T/Evo 4G LTE uses the latest snapdragon chip, the S4 dual core krait. Have a look at the benchmarks comparing the GS 3 and the HTC One S and the HTC One X (Snapdragon S4)

Unless you are looking at the version that the USA is getting in which case the GS 3 will then have the s4 as well.
Also just because the GS 3 has a bigger battery does not mean that it is also going to be better
Many factors affect battery life:
- screen size/type/res.
- driver/software optimization for battery
- the hardware that is used especially the CPU
etc.
So due to the bigger screen/higher res, the bigger battery is needed.
From what I have seen (from people who know what to post for screenshots regarding battery life and the required info. ) and heard from a friend (who owns the GS 3), the battery life does not sound that good, seems very average and only slightly better than the X.
Also just look at the atrix, it had a big battery, yet its battery life was terrible.
However, due to the s4 being very power efficient, the battery life could be a fair bit better than the exynos quad gs3,
version.
At least you will be able to get an extended battery though
The GS 3 only has 1GB of RAM as well (USA version has 2GB). There really is no need for any more RAM.
The GPU in the GS 3 is better (the GPU in the GS3 USA version is the same as the HTC one s [adreno 225])
So to sum up, if you want a bigger/better screen, more storage for dropbox, internal and the choice of using an SD card, NFC, better 1080P video recording (camera/photos seems good, but not a huge difference from what I can see and the HTC one/Sense V4 has a lot more features and some of them are great along with a better UI IMO) and a larger developing community go for the GS 3.
Although play with the GS 3 first and see what you think of touchwiz as I personally don't like it one bit, hate the colour scheme, modded apps and feels like a big step down from sense V4 overall IMO. Although touchwiz is tweaked very well under the bonnet.
Also you may find the GS 3 to be too big.
I think the OP is talking about the T-Mobile Galaxy S3 which will have dual core not a quad. Sure it all comes down to preference, would you like to have "TAMPERED" written to your bootloader and documented by the same company that is supposed to honor your warranty ? How bout a VGA front camera ? Maybe the atrocious cut out for the ****ty front camera? How bout poorly designed antennae that struggle to get a signal inside a building ? What about a non expandable 16gb memory device of which only about 10 is free ?
Touchwiz and Sense both hog resources, but TW is much, much lighter. The One S restarts Sense every chance it gets, and has a serious multitasking problem.

Not an issue for a lot of people as some are happy with the stock ROM in its current state and see no reason to root and flash a custom ROM yet as the 1S is super fast and smooth out of the box with great battery life and features.
Also is that not only if you use their method via their website for unlocking or whatever it is?

That was taken with some light coming in through the window (however, it is very cloudy outside, so it would be much better when we have blue skies)
The "atrocious cut out" There is nothing wrong with it IMO.
On the other hand the notification LED is atrocious and probably the cheapest/tackiest way that HTC implemented it.
At least the entire design and looks of the S is far better than the white & pebble blue GS 3, which looks like a cheap fisher price toy IMO......
Might be built very well and durable (not as durable as the GS 2 by the looks of things though) but there is no denying that in terms of "perceived quality" the HTC handsets especially the S due to the aluminium unibody/MAO process are still leagues ahead of Samsung.

I have had my device since release day and have had no problems with the signal whatsoever no matter where I am, just took these SS when in a shopping centre in the car park level (bottom level out of three levels) and this is my signal with a H connection, which usually results in a weaker voice reception as opposed to a G/E connection:

Not an issue for some people otherwise we wouldn't have even laid eyes on the device just like the others....
Unless you plan on throwing your entire music collection (can use google music as well instead) on to your device along with films etc. then there won't be any problem with storage.
Over 500 photos including lots of 1080P recordings, along with emulator files, wallpapers etc. over 60 apps installed (including games) and I still have plenty of storage.

I have only had 2 reloads of the sense launcher when I was just using pure stock and it was only after returning from a game whilst using the browser as well. I have disabled a lot of sense widgets/apps etc. and use apex launcher, ics browser +, snowstorm weather widget, smooth calendar, APW calendar 4x4 widget, switch pro, and tasks free widget, swiftkey beta 3 and I have no problems with the multi-tasking, or any reloads whatsoever now.
And for the people who are experiencing the "serious" problems with the multi-tasking I am sure HTC will eventually release an update tweaking it or they could just root the mobile and install this app and then set the multi-tasking to what you want:

I have had the GS 2 (on stock ICS) right beside my 1S (complete stock sense) and the 1S was noticeably quicker and smoother in every area that I tried be it browsing, games, loading apps/menus, carrying tasks out etc.
The GS 3 seems to have just as many problems as well, seems to be some wifi problems, screen problems amongst other problems and I am sure as time goes on and more and more people get their GS 3 will see even more posts stating problems etc. just like what it was with the 1S.
No device is perfect out of the box, guaranteed that every single device will have problems, even the iphones, which are suppose "to just work out of the box" have problems with the screen, buzzing in ear piece, poor battery life for a lot of handsets and signal problems as well etc.
And just because people experience certain problems with their devices does not mean that it applies to every single handset there is in the world.....
When OP asks this question here, I assume you ask the same on s3 forum cos you will for sure have most of people recommend one s here and s3 there.
There is no definitely good or bad, or better or worse between these two. Even one s is not HTC's flagship, give it to other brands, it could enough take the crown.
We could only rationally compare the specs and provide personal preference which is so depending on individules. I wouldn't deny that s3 does have better specs in some areas but one s wins in others. And one s has a few issues such as the mao coating chipping off. But it does not stop us loving the phone, rather, it only makes us love it even more cos only when you care your device, you want it better, right? Just like me, I never know what problem s3 has and will have, simply because I don't really care, I am satisfied with my beloved one s and I am pretty sure I will keep loving it since it is almost almost perfect.
So, the best way to find out which one to get, is to see the specs first, then find out any issues with both, especially if there is any deal breaking one, if you still cannot decide, go play with both in your local shops and feel them yourselves. However, I do recommend avoiding black one s cos it has hardware issue, but grey one is fine.
In the end I would say, I lovey my one s! Hope lots of people do the same (of course, try love your one s, not mine )

if you're mad about the reboots and random issues it has when it first came out don't think the s3 is going to be perfect and bug free either cause you're going to be dissapointed if you gave up ur one S for a rebooting brick

Im in the EXACT same boat as you. I got my One S for 290 on Tmo with upgrade and am looking to sell back my One S for the GSiii. The only thing is I have til the end of this week to decide! Haha. If I sell back to T-Mo, will I be able to upgrade again?
Regarding reboots, since release day pretty much, I have only had 2 reboots and they both happened when I was using swiftkey beta 3, so it may have been related to that app due to it being in "beta" stages.....
Haven't had any more reboots since the latest beta version and update for the 1S *touch wood*

yeah u can still upgrade if u return it within the 30 days or whatever days u have. i probably will trade mine back in right before it ends. it just depends on how much the gs3 cost me. i cant stand no micro sd card expansion. i know we get drop box but what good is drop box when ur out and u get crappy 2g? its pretty much useless and so is google music. this is why i would much rather have expandable memory so i dont have to rely on my internet connection. it just sucks to give up such a sexy ass device plus i normally hate samsung and love htc but i feel like im getting more for my money if the gs3 cost me the same as the htc one s cost me. if it cost more then i will stick with the one s.

Sweet if its 199 with no rebates then I will get it asap. I paid 250 plus tax and over night shipping which cost me 340 which is kinda to much money for this phone. I sent the rebate in but it can take up to 8 weeks to get my 50

Yeah the size is nice and its 720p which is also nice. I like the expandable micro sd and the removable battery is nice as well and NFC support.

The quality isn't amazing, but it isn't terrible....

The "atrocious cut out" There is nothing wrong with it IMO.
On the other hand the notification LED is atrocious and probably the cheapest/tackiest way that HTC implemented it.
At least the entire design and looks of the S is far better than the white & pebble blue GS 3, which looks like a cheap fisher price toy IMO......
Might be built very well and durable (not as durable as the GS 2 by the looks of things though) but there is no denying that in terms of "perceived quality" the HTC handsets especially the S due to the aluminium unibody/MAO process are still leagues ahead of Samsung.
I have had my device since release day and have had no problems with the signal whatsoever no matter where I am, just took these SS when in a shopping centre in the car park level (bottom level out of three levels) and this is my signal with a H connection, which usually results in a weaker voice reception as opposed to a G/E connection:
Not an issue for some people otherwise we wouldn't have even laid eyes on the device just like the others....
Unless you plan on throwing your entire music collection (can use google music as well instead) on to your device along with films etc. then there won't be any problem with storage.
Over 500 photos including lots of 1080P recordings, along with emulator files, wallpapers etc. over 60 apps installed (including games) and I still have plenty of storage.
I have only had 2 reloads of the sense launcher when I was just using pure stock and it was only after returning from a game whilst using the browser as well. I have disabled a lot of sense widgets/apps etc. and use apex launcher, ics browser +, snowstorm weather widget, smooth calendar, APW calendar 4x4 widget, switch pro, and tasks free widget, swiftkey beta 3 and I have no problems with the multi-tasking, or any reloads whatsoever now.
And for the people who are experiencing the "serious" problems with the multi-tasking I am sure HTC will eventually release an update tweaking it or they could just root the mobile and install this app and then set the multi-tasking to what you want:

I have had the GS 2 (on stock ICS) right beside my 1S (complete stock sense) and the 1S was noticeably quicker and smoother in every area that I tried be it browsing, games, loading apps/menus, carrying tasks out etc.
The GS 3 seems to have just as many problems as well, seems to be some wifi problems, screen problems amongst other problems and I am sure as time goes on and more and more people get their GS 3 will see even more posts stating problems etc. just like what it was with the 1S.
No device is perfect out of the box, guaranteed that every single device will have problems, even the iphones, which are suppose "to just work out of the box" have problems with the screen, buzzing in ear piece, poor battery life for a lot of handsets and signal problems as well etc.
And just because people experience certain problems with their devices does not mean that it applies to every single handset there is in the world.....

I agree with this post almost completely.....except that I am definately having the data issue. I am hoping against hope that the ghost firmware update will correct this.
I returned mine yesterday and am having the same problem with this second one.
Edit-I think I'm in a fringe/low lieing area. I never get a real good signal, but the indicator fluctuates wildly. Mostly at 1-2 bars or less.
I myself would choose the One S over the SIII. Which I did.
I was a little concerned about the battery but it has turned out to be a non issue. Battery life is superb!
Changed my mind. I am sticking with the One S. Build quality is wayyyy better plus I would have to shoot myself in the groin if I had to deal with TouchWiz, even for one day. It's nice that you can have much more memory, but that's about it.

Battery life - User dependant. Also other factors can impact this such as signal strength, type of data used, screen brightness. Looking at the battery stats thread it seems fine, better than my HOX and that's saying something.
10GB of user space available. 4GB for system & 2GB for apps. Plenty for apps. You have 10gb available to you for music, movies, photos etc. For some this is enough for others not so much. But with the ability to sync items to cloud storage for most it shouldn't be an issue.
Heat - Can't comment, but from various reading it seems cooler than other devices.
Not got the device but comparing to let's say the SGS2 this seems to have a higher resolution screen despite having a pentile screen.
Audio - Read it has one of the cleanest outputs on a mobile device, not heard it personally but it should be fine.
CPU - The S4 is one of the best dual cores around, so much there is a shortage and pretty soon they will switch to the S3. So grab the S4 version whilst you still can. It's plenty fast and outbenches some of the quads out there.
Sense - HTC's overlay, you'll love it or hate it. I love it. Has good contact management, lovely widgets, good for social networking, and such but can be a memory hog.
Camera - HTC has done a good job on the camera front. Like my HOX I like the pictures that it takes and the burst mode is a blessing. The software is also good and easy to use.
LED - This has a notification light, albeit 2 colours only compared to some other devices but at least it has one.
To sum it up it's a good mid range device. And should serve you well. Not having the device myself I'm only giving you my thoughts from reading reviews and taking some parts of my HOX.

I'd say think about longer term, it's an older device. The One S is the newer device and I'd be thinking about Jelly Bean the next android version. One S being newer would more likely be quicker to get it than the XE. It'll have more support from HTC.
Looking at the specs of both phones:
HOS is faster,
HOS reportedly has better battery life,
HOS has better screen in regards to viewing angles and sunlight compared to the first generation SLCD, again this could be subjective,
HOS is thinner and ligther,
HOS has the better camera,
HOS has native Sense 4 support,
HOS has 1gb of RAM compared to XEs 768MB,
You'll enjoy either but if you can I'd opt for the HOS if storage space isn't that important to you.

I have both the Sensation and One S and there is really no comparison, the One S is much better. I still like my Sensation but the One S is better looking and feeling, has better battery life and a nicer screen, and is much faster.
I haven't had any of the problems that people have reported here (sensitive button, poor reception etc.). Battery life has been good for me so far, and while it does warm up when you're using it heavily it's not "hot" by any means.
The lack of SD slot is not really a problem for me, but whether you can live with it depends on your usage. I've never used more than 4GB of SD card on my Sensation, so the 10GB on board is more than enough.
The only problems I would be concerned about are:
1) Chipping on the black version. I honestly think it's overblown (like most issues with all phones, only people who have problems speak up), but if you are really worried about it get the silver one. It looks even better IMO and it won't chip as the finishing process is different.
2) Getting the 1.7GHz Snapdragon S3 version instead of the 1.5GHz S4. The S3 is the previous generation chip, used in the Sensation, and is slower (despite the higher clock speed, the architecture is different) and uses more power. I don't know if there's a way to tell what you're going to get beforehand, though. Only thing I can think of is if you see "1.7GHz" anywhere on or near it, stay away.

Speaker for the HOX is fine, not as loud as say the SGS3 but it's consistent where as the SGS3 can be distorted on higher volumes. I prefer the ringtone sounds out of the HOX than SGS3.

Very good! Call quality is great for me.
Loud (can adjust the volume) and clean.
You have dual mics, so any background noise is blocked out Obviously extreme noise like cars racing right beside you and loud music might not be completely blocked out and besides you won't be able to make the other person out anyway

I've just upgraded to this phone from the Desire S. I was thinking about getting the One X or the S3 too but I want a high end mobile phone not a mini tablet. This phone is amazing coming from a rooted desire S, its so fast and smooth I don't plan on rooting it.
My advise is to simply get this phone.

Are you asking me or someone else?
1) The battery life on this phone sucks. Expect to be getting no more than 4 hours of usage on average. The iphone 4/4s gets a solid 6 hours of usage. Thats 150% more battery life and I don't need to fiddle with the settings at all to achieve this.
2) The hardware has major design flaws. First of all the black one has that chipping problem with the paint. Well I have used my phone for less than 2 months and it looks butchered as hell. People complain about the iphone 4/4s, well I dropped a gazillion times and it still looked almost brand new when I sold it. I dropped the 1S one time! and the paint already came off. The front camera is recessed and gathers dust like crazy. It's impossible to clean it because its recessed and the dust has no where to go. Crap and dust also builds up near the top plastic cap. The speakers are also located exactly on the back of the phone. So if you put your phone on your table, you can't hear it ringing. Not only that the volume is so low. I missed tons of calls.
3) The community for this phone sucks. There is barely any activity on the fora and development for custom roms is stagnating. I mean sense is crap and there is only like 1 guy working on cm9? And correct me if I am wrong but the last version of AOKP is like from 3 weeks ago with tons of bugs. Now look at the Galaxy Nexus or the 1X fora. Or look at the SGS3 fora and that phone has not even been completely released yet. Its crazy. And this is worrying cause even sense has tons of bugs. There is for example this 3g/H switching that still hasn't been fixed as far as I know.
4) Then there is this low resolution pentile screen. Well its definitely ok and you shouldn't worry about it. But you WILL notice a huge difference if you put it next to the nexus, 1X or the iphone 4/4s and you will run in to all kinds of trouble with apps. For example while my own 720p videos looks good on this phone, youtube videos will look crap no matter how high you put the settings. There are tons of these annoying things. The screen is the reason why its not quite yet a flagship device while it could have been.
That being said I think its the best android phone on the market. Its the fastest android phone on the market. It doesn't have a cheap flimsy plastic body and it has a thin and light design. Aluminum feels really good on the hand especially when its cold. Its like 100 dollars/euro cheaper than the 1X and SGS3. I'd wait for the iphone 5 though. And if that turns out to be nothing or if the wait is too long then go ahead and purchase the 1S cause thats what I recommend out of the top3 android phones.

Once again, all of that is in YOUR opinion and from your usage only as well, plenty of people including me have had the exact opposite to you. Just because you experience problems doesn't mean that every one else will....
1. Is that on screen time your talking about? If so that is very good! (depending on usage and screen brightness) No other android phone gets anywhere near that unless the screens are set to like 0% and airplane mode enabled for a bit. Just look at my review and you will see the usage that I am getting from a single charge, now go and find me an android phone on stock ROM with a stock battery that can beat that (apart from the motorola razzr for obvious reasons). The iphone 4/4s also seem to have a problem with battery life for quite a few people, heck apple have even released a number of updates iirc to try and fix the battery drain
Plus don't forget that the iphone 4/4s doesn't have the same amount to do as an android phone.
2. The MAO issue is not a "hardware" problem, but a design fault.... Also I have had my phone since release day and still have no signs of chipping anywhere apart from inside the USB port plus HTC have addressed this now as they have got a design, which has a bevelled USB and less sharper edges. Well you were extremely lucky with your 4s then as due to the build of it and being mostly glass, the screen is almost always guaranteed to shatter when dropped......

It all depends on where abouts the ground impacts the mobile, you could be lucky or not so lucky with any device. If you want to be safe than sorry then a case is a necessary item for all mobiles, even the GS 2. Some devices are just more durable than others.
I have had no problems with dust getting under my screen, had my mobile since April, yes dust does gather in the front camera part, however, a quick blow and wipe with a pencil in a cloth sorts that problem out.
Emmmm what? The volume is amplified a wee bit when it is placed on the desk due to that reason, you can raise the volume as well you know or use a louder ring tone, you must be pretty deaf if you can't hear your mobile ringing......
3. The community isn't great, but it is starting to pick up now especially since the kernel source was posted, there are a few good ROMs from what I have read such as trickdroid and leedroid. Sense is crap in your opinion, many people including me love it and I for one won't be changing to a stock ICS ROM as I don't want to loose the features of sense, which IMO are better than the alternatives. The gallery, dialer, calendar, clock app are superb and not to mention the sense camera along with all the features, which you won't find on any other mobile or stock ICS ROM. Of course the galaxy nexus is going to have a damn good developing community, it's only the official/stock android phone that all the developers use to develop apps for and was the first phone to have a 720P display. The developing community here will never be as good as the the 1X or GS 3 community as they are the "flagship" devices and the phones that everyone will go for just for because of that "term"
Also the tegra chipset is apparently proving to be hard to work with for the developers with the 1X due to nvidia lack of support.
What are these bugs you speak off? I haven't had any problems with mine, super stable, super quick and smooth, multi-tasking is fine as I have disabled a lot of sense stuff and apps that I don't need and am using apex etc. instead.
If you look at my other post addressing issues you will see that I don't have the 3G/H bug, along with many other people.
The iphone is well known to have signal issues as well, not remember the 4 or 4s release where people were complaining about terrible signal, and apple said essentially "you're holding the phone the wrong way" and had to give out free bumper cases to solve the issue as it was a problem with the new antenna that they were using......
4. There is no problem with the screen, sure it ain't 720P and doesn't use RGB matrix, but it is perfectly good and better than most other mobiles screens apart from the ones you mentioned along with a couple of SE mobiles. The screen is nice and sharp still, the only areas I notice the pentile matrix is with white text on black backgrounds and some icons and even still I have to put my eyes right up to the screen. Plus the reason HTC went with with the pentile version is because the battery life is better with it than the RGB version (same reason Samsung went with pentile on the GS 3 instead of RGB). What kind of trouble have you run into with all these apps that you speak of because of the screen? What on earth are you talking about again??? Youtube videos will look crap no matter what settings you put them on??? The youtube videos look great.
Seriously, it sounds to me like you have a faulty one s if that is truly what you are experiencing.......
And after all that you still think the 1S is the best android device there is

Just buy it. It's a fine phone. These have been snapped up by many in the UK past few days due to a cheap contract deal so many more HOS users in the pipeline.
