Ok... I am a die hard NON apple kind of guy. My wife bought her Iphone a year ago leaving me and verizon to fend for ourselves. Then I suggested she buy a Mac book as she has been slamming windows for as long as we have been married. So, after loving angry birds on my Gtab for the past month, I thought, what a perfect gift for her (and me to compare) an IPAD would be. So I bought her one for Christmas.
I have to say, the screen really is fine. The lighter weight and the form factor is sweet too. But, to have to have an app (which they do have an app for everything many free for sure) to view most web sites in a "standard" mode such as to see video on them etc., I still can not see that. And, no add on memory and no real interface... the battle is on!
I will update you periodically as I try and see it from an Apple user perspective.
That IPS screen is very nice. Did some after Xmas shopping today and took another look at the iPad. It's the one thing that really stands out on the iPad, versus the GTab.
I know that, in time, Android tablets will catch up (Notion Ink? please don't be vaporware).

Hold off, since rumors of some form of USB, microsd, and additional camera functionality will not die in regard to iPad 2011 models.
I can not look at the iPad display, since I then have to reacclimate to G's dispaly. ..... ....
Man, just think of the Gtablet with at least a Galaxy Tab level display.....
Here's my guess on the iPad v2 - it will almost certainly have a camera. Makes sense for Facetime.
A USB port and / or a microSD slot would be a major shocker, so I highly doubt that would happen. It goes against the walled-garden approach that Apple loves so much.
I have been an iphone user for two years. You may heard this before but lack of flash of support equals COMPLETE FAIL as I an an avid news junkie and enjoy news clips.
Now if only Netflix and google can work out their differences and bring official support for streaming netflix to droid devices then I will be switching to droid in the spring when my phone contract is due for renewal.
PS, I have owned an apple PC and it would not run 1/5th the software that was available while the apple had software support for virtually NOTHING that I needed on the PC and couldn't get.
My brother and I had this same argument about a year ago where he was praising the superiority of the Mac, about a month later he embarrassingly admitted to me I was absolutely right about the Apple causing him to not have acess to most of the software out there.
At the time I bought my last Dell laptop I spec it out with the 2G Duo Core, a wireless N1 card, a Geforce mobile GT8600, a 7200spd hard drive and 2G of Ram. I went to the apple web site and spec' out the SAME configuration, it was over $1,000 MORE!
Same hardware, LESS software, nearly double the price.
Come on...how is that EVEN a contest? I have since upgraded that same laptop to Win 7 32b and it STILL runs like a champ (do you think that would have been the case with a macbook?)
By the way, my viewsonic (although a tad buggy at this time) was 25% cheaper than an ipad and the only real advantage I can see of the ipad was superior screen while it has weaker hardware, and I am 100% confident that the Droid 2.2 and coming honeycomb will equal or surpass the ipad in the coming year.

I do love my iphone but I have physically thrown it after getting literally thousands of video errors with flash videos news sites not to mention the fact that the vast majority of "apps" are just dumb downed versions of web pages that I do not really care for (there are quite a few with functionaity for actual mobile use but many apps are just "internet for idiots". What I am saying here is that I am not impressed with "who has the most apps" I just need certain specific ones (which you can get from EITHER company pretty much).
I personally have a love/hate relationship with Apple.
My first laptop was a greyscale PowerBook, I've used all the older pre-10 iterations and I think OSX is an outstanding achievement. But iOS just burns me up and I can see that they are expanding this walled-garden mentality into their Mac products, as well. No standard external ports like USB, no external storage, nothing allowed on the device except through iTunes, no Flash just because Jobs is pissed off that Adobe dumped them for MS. I just hate that with a passion. And the iPad v1 is the culmination of everything I loathe about them.
But, it does have a really nice screen.
I am a veteran of the Windows/Mac Wars of the 90s and the one thing I learned is: If it does what you want and I can run what I want, then I don't care what you run. If you like Apple, if you like Win7, if you like Linux, if you like iOS, if you like Android, if you like webOS... then bully for you! I happen to like some of those myself, so whoop de do!
But tell me my platform sucks or try to spend 30min telling me WHY my platform sucks, well, I have better things to do, thanks.

I Gave My iPad to my Wife
I gave my iPad to my wife to read her Kindle books on. I bought my gTablet on November 17th, and I have not missed my iPad. I am loving my gTablet, and it is just getting better and better with time. I am running TNT Lite 3.1.2 on mine. With flash, adhoc wi-fi support, and the full market, I am plenty happy. I am looking forward to the bright future of the gTablet.
Doing some research on video out on the IPAD. It has a selection of cables for composite, component and vga, but guess what? Only very few apps output to video such as movies, photos and not much else.
When I hooked up my HDMI to my dock today, EVERYTHING I saw on the screen was showing on the big screen.

You are far more qualified than me to make this assessment but if you are only designing your OS to have functionality with very specific in house written end user software, I would think it would be EASY to achieve a tighter higher performaing OS.
Do the circumstances of how osx exsists in the first place not SIGNIFICANTLY diminish its level of "oustanding" as an achievement?

Fair points. Although unfortunately for all of us here, if a thing sucks it is going to suck regardless of what any individual really thinks. Suckage is an absolute and will be unaffected by all the good will of the world. Rotten meat will not become premium meat because 1000 people love it. Unfortunately this seems to be the casse with apple. In the 80s A Team and Knight Rider were top shows, just because people were watching did not make them actually good. Just because lots of people are buying Ipads does not over come the facts of an absolute and unavoidable conclusion based on the facts (listed above about ports, camera, storage devices, flash, cost, etc etc.). Its not really about convincing or anyones opinion. Its just a fact that it sucks, kind of like how the world is round (regardless of if anyone likes said fact or not).

LOL, well your credibility for providing a non-bias Apple user perspective is tainted by stating you're a "die hard NON apple kind of guy". jk. My sister in law has an Ipad and I think its just a great big Ipod touch which is actually a compliment. It's so smooth and pretty to look at. Did you download skyfire on the Ipad? I heard it was out as an app. I'm curious to see how it runs on the Ipad.

I agree, a ff camera will be on the Ipad 2. You know Apple was gonna do that anyways but decided to leave it out so people will be more likely to upgrade. That's why I'm so leary when buying apple products or any product for that matter. I want it to have my minimum requirements at least for me to consider buying it.
I also agree that it will not have expandable memory which is a shame.

I think folks will be surprised and there will either be USB function, or micro sd options (both?). The only thing holding Apple back from complete market domination are those issues and people that hate Apple. Though Apple can do nothing for the latter, they can compromise with the former.
There should be some decent "leaks" in about a month. We shall see.........
My first computer back in the late 70's was an Apple ][. That was back in the days of Steve Jobs and Steve Wozniak. Even back then it was clear that the Woz only really cared about the technology and Jobs only really cared about the money. I was an avid Apple defender back then but a few years later we had Apple taken over, Woz and Jobs were out and Peter Skelly was in. Skelly had been the CEO of Pepsi Cola and his knowledge of technology consisted of being able to flip the on/off switch on lights, computers and various electrical items. Eventually he had the sense to bring Jobs back in.
Here's the problem, Jobs is glorious at design and ergonomic functionality, he is also a true technophile. He designs magnificent looking machines with super friendly GUI's that people love. But, once you get past the look of his machines you find that they offer simple AND limited functionality, and that is the very reason that the great masses love Apple machines.
Because people love the look and feel of the machines they are willing to pay bloated prices for what they see as "superior" technology when really the only thing superior is the physical design and ease of use for the technically unannointed. That is GREAT business, but lousy geekiness.
You can't knock Apple's ability to design machines that sell and make piles of money and you can't knock their success. For me, the problem is that I don't want to give them my money anymore because their machines aren't "fun".
My first priority is that my techno gadgets be functional and a close second is that they must be fun. Apple doesn't fit into that nook. Even so I did buy three Mac's a couple of years ago and found that their build quality was poor and that surprised me a lot. But in business, public perception is a bigger selling point that anything else and Apple got that right, too bad they didn't get the technical end right.

I came across this old thread while researching the GTablet. The only thing that is really holding me back from buying one is the screen. The videos I see on Youtube make the screen look really bad, especially one that has a side by side comparison of the Gtablet vs Ipad. Since the GTablet has been out for awhile now, are those who own it still happy? I need to find a B&M store that has one so I can check it out, I really wish it had an IPS screen like the iPad though. I dont get why somebody doesnt come out with a killer Android tablet that can really compete with the iPad.

I picked the gtab because I like to customize the gtab and try different Roms. I am very happy with mine using vegan tab. Flash has been a big bonus. The screen works surprisingly well. Sure, its not perfect, but this gtab has some power and is 400 bucks less than xoom. If you like out of the box OS and don't like to tinker, then get the 16GB iPad from best buy for $399. Battery life on the gtab is awesome. I wake up at 4am and use it throughout the day and heavy use by evening. I will have several hours left on the battery when I go to bed around 9pm. Try Office depot, as many have them in stock to play with. Good luck.

So I was having the same issues before I picked up the gtablet, and having used it for a few days, the screen isn't really that bad. I also love the more widescreen aspect of it vs the ipad allows for better media watching. But it does mean you have to dive more into the device and its setup (custom roms, etc) and if that is daunting to you then I would skip the gtablet.
No issues with geek stuff like flashing ROMs. Ive been an Android user since the G1, member here on xda since then. I currently have a SGS Vibrant, rooted with Bionix.
So, what would you compare the screen to? I have a nearby Office Depot, will try to check it out tomorrow. Is the GTablet the best thing going right now? From the specs, it seems so. One last thing, what are you using to protect it? Screen protector? Case?

With the newest official and unofficial VS update, you may not need to use an alternative ROM.
I would compare the screen directly to a netbook screen. It is by no means imho as horrid as some would have you think, but it's not for everyone. Some people feel you should be able to see what's on the phone/tablet screens while they sit flat on a desk and you're in a chair - while I think it's nice to be able to, I certainly don't think it's necessary to enjoy it and this is just something again, imo vendors have used to inflate the cost of these devices beyond their 'real' practical value. "why is our tablet $800 when so and so is selling one with the same internals for $300? well, have you SEEEEEN our screen? BIG difference!" yeah, you get my drift.
Spec-wise, I think it's a toss-up between the GTablet and it's siblings (interpad, hanspree tablet, malata zpad, avent vega, etc.) or the Notion Ink Adam. As you probably know, the iPad is pretty nice but it's def. lacking in terms of (imo, again) certain little details where the GTablet and other Android devices with similar specs excel and you would have to either learn to live in Apple's walled garden or do some 'techie' stuff in order to jailbreak anyway. Is it the BEST right now? I don't know - probably not. It was released in Nov. 2010, there's bound to be something with similar specs and a 'better' screen by now, if not then yeah it's probably the best VALUE for what you get as of right now.
I would have got her an ipad too.
Don't get me wrong I love my gtab, but I exhaust so much time modifying and fixing my own one. I don't mind that for myself but stuffed if I'm gonna spend my entire free time fixing someone elses tablet. Ipad can't do as much but in return I don't have to ever look at it or maintain it hence freeing up my spare time.

Am I the only who thinks some people are expecting too much? Maybe it is becuase my uses are so different than others?
I am not looking to control orbiting satelites with this device, nor am I wanting it to compose Adele's next number one smash. It is a tablet! Or, am I missing something. Have these devices come so far in such a short time that we want them to be full desktop or laptop replacements?
I want to: check the weather, see what the local movie times are and read some reviews, check email real quick and perhaps respond, watch a few clips of youtube on a really nice screen, have some entertainment portability when I travel, have a huge GPS in my car (that works), write reviews on Trip Advisor, read about the TomKat divorce, etc, etc. I wonder how many people who are highlighting the faults of this device actually have capable laptops at home!
I want a great screen and the latest device that might last me two, or maybe three years. I am not looking to take over the world with this device in 7 years.
Thoughts?
P.S. - I was joking about the TomKat thing.

I'm basically on your side. I also think some people overreact on some issues like the I/O.
I watched the Prime release as I wanted that too but there was an overall bad tone from those who got it. The whole forum was basically just threads about problems or complaining, here it is two or three threads now.
With the Infinity you hear some say "oh no I/O, send it back, its crap" and others that say "it's almost smooth as butter".
But on the other hand it is marketed as a high class tablet and priced like that.
So I expect from ASUS to fix that issues. If they ignore it I will probably send it back after some time if the issue really bothers me that much.
But as I'm still waiting for mine to arrive I won't cancel it because of this now.
Okay maybe it is different in other countries that do not have warranty for 2 years, dunno.
You wouldn't have to have bought the 700 if you'd only wanted to watch the ocassional YouTube clip, LOL. As far as your usage scenario goes, yes, I believe you will have a great device that will last you several years, and possibly much longer than that.
I love the device too, but in my usage scenario (watching movie along with browsing the web for a bit, XDA among it), the I/O issue does rear its ugly head every once in a while. Granted, if actually watching the video, all is great; browsing the web, all is great; accessing the filesystem is less nice with slower responses than my SGS2, let alone when you try and transfer a large file.
And to answer your title question: no, I do not think we're expecting too much for a device of this cost (and theoretical capability). A quad-core 1GB RAM ICS tablet with 64 GB on-board memory should blow everything Android out of the water; so far, the experience hasn't been that bad at all, but I am absolutely convinced there is quite some room for improvement.
And now I think of it: all this time we are used as unpaid beta testers. I wonder why ASUS never stumbled upon the I/O issue itself; is that because they just connected seome hardware in an aluminum casing and brought it to retail, like some cynics said, or is this really so special and unforeseen that they didn't test large file transfers (for example) at all and just didn't test that particular aspect? I do have an opinion on that.
Surfing the web (visiting regular sites) and watching embedded video's in those site should work smooth. Especially with this high-end tablet.
Well, it does not go smooth. That's not a high expectation to me.
I compared it with an iPad1 and and iPad3, and even the iPad1 (>2 years old!) does the job faster and smoother ...

Is it fair to say that if Asus expects to produce and sell 7,000,000 of these devices (I do not know what the real production number is), and 6,800,000 of those buyers do not care about I/O, multi-tasking, etc, that Asus WOULD NOT spend time, energy, and resources to make those 200,000 buyers happy?
I love these sites and forums, they are a great resource, but lets face it, people that use and post to these sites are a minority, not majority. And while I am sure producers of these tablet devices, be it Asus, Apple, Samsung, etc, do care somewhat about what is said, they have to produce what they can sell at the highest profit margin and then move onto the next device. Forget the Infinity, Asus probably its successor and its successors successor already in the works!

Went into a local Currys and had a good look at a few tablets. The Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 actually looks quite nice and has an amazing screen, so does the Nexus 7 (but again, no 3G or SD card).
I hate to admit it but Apple own the tablet market.
I think I'm going to wait until we have an HD tablet with 3G before I buy one. These days I want to make sure I get the best bang for my buck.
i really do think its the best tab out. no tab comes out as the perfect model an ipad 3 is because there is only 1 of them, nothing to compare within apple. its such closed ecosystem that it runs smoothly because.... u cant do anything YOU want just what they want lol. with android its like PC, so many configuartions its hard to eliminate all bugs, but really good devs are gonna get their hands on this device and fix up a lot of things. also check out endgaget Asus released 4.1 jellybean news to hit the prime and the infinity within the next month

To be honest. I don't think they pay to much mind to us early adapters. We definitely are the minority...
I received my TF700 yesterday and I was expecting a wow from the screen but my wife screwed it up cause I been using her ipad3 for the last week while waiting for the infinity. The screen is definitely nice and it does run smooth like it suppose to. I saw an IO issue when I was downloading all my apps and sorting them out in my home screens. It was sluggish and the screen turned white twice but I was downloading 22 apps with wifi on and re organizing the home screens which is a lot (at least to me). The wifi and bluetooth are [email protected] great. Distance for bluetooth seems to be much better. Jambox works flawless. The only things I didn't like was it seems the speaker has a lower top volume. Doesn't seem to be as loud as my prime was. I do get a click from the lens when I take pictures. You can hear it in video which is annoying.

If you'd read my posts in here, you'd have seen I have stated exactly to same a few times over, my friend. In 'normal usage' scenarios, owners won't find significant faults, and they accept a hang here or there -- if you work anywhere where you cannot decide on hardware yourself, you are faced with crap hardware all the time and build up mental antibodies to stutters, lags, hangs and what-not.
Having said that, a lot of people come in here for 'other-than-normal usage' scenarios, right ? And you rightly point out that we do not have any market influence except for the direct one (representatives, who probably are depressed and suicidal by now, LOL).

I downloaded multiple HD texture packs for Mario Kart 64, Starfox 64 and Super Smash Bros with little to no lag, then unzipped, copied and pasted the very large (a couple hundred megabytes) packs into their correct folders without really slowing down at all. I was impressed considering my tablet locked up several times while installing and Titanium Backup restoring apps.

I was just thinking about writing about the same topic. Sometimes I feel that people are expecting to get a full spec laptop.
Yeah the problems are there, but do they make me regret bying the TF700T? Not a bit.

Take this scenario - you or I decide to design our own tablet: We get a bunch of investors, we go to a Chinese tech company, we sit down in a board room with their engineers - somewhere - maybe in the US - we show our blueprints of what we want the tablet to do - screen resolution - processor - ports - size - case material - all the usual stuff - any one of us here on XDA could do it - then, a representative meets with you and your investors again 3 months later with a prototype - you tell them what you like and what you don't - they disappear again for another month and return with a new prototype - you test it, it meets with your approval - you give them the go to produce 1000 of them.
We would have our own company, and produce a tablet - which we sell to the public - but we wouldn't have the slightest clue what makes it tick
And if a customer complains what do we do - we contact a chinese engineer explain the problem and maybe they solve the problem or maybe they make excuses for shoddy workmanship and move on to the next bigger contract - its not their problem to provide customer support, its yours - but you didn't make the thing so you don't have a clue how to solve the customer's problems
Again just hypothetical, but with everything being made by Chinese factories, are we even sure that ASUS knows the cause of our problems or the solutions?
Remember the day of having products made and supported in the US is over. Even the Japanese don't make and support their products anymore. Sony products are made in China!
On a side note - I do think they could have taken the time to tell the Chinese engineers to find a way to put the damn speakers on the front, or at least along the bottom and separated - after hearing the speakers on the a700 I'm having a really hard time rationalizing a premium tablet with a cheap monotone side mounted speaker..

You could contract a US engineer to do the job for you. But you still need a brand image which requires time to get into customers' heads otherwise nobody will buy it from you. Well if you don't get the message across to them then who will? Remember, in a big company there's always a chain-of-command on the production side, it's difficult to get it right the first time and they tends to pick-up their mistakes overtime.
However you'll just needing to submit a customer feedback and then wait patiently because Asus has so many products that they're busy dealing with everyday. I'd understand it from a customer's point of view such that problems within the product itself and falling out of specification etc...
For example you see the quality not class A and constantly compares it with another product in similar system, would you rather be disappointed to see it not being a perfect product?
Think about it perhaps the tablet market has just taken off!!!

You could contact a US engineer to do it for you? You mean in a US factory? There are none. Thats the point.
China IS the only remaining company
ASUS = intermediary between US customer and China
They supply cash a brand name and a list of design requriments - China does all the rest
That disconect becomes a big problem when it comes to product support and problem solving - if you didn't really make it - you are not well prepared to support it
Existing Facts
1. USB data transfer inconsistency i.e. hangs relatively frequently when trying to transfer multiple files at once
2. System slows down/almost freezes when installing many applications
3. System slows down/freezes when download many files [supposedly with torrent, but I never confirmed this]
All make sense to point finger at the issue with I/O... But one exception I encounter today...
Case Report
Based on the application recommendations on this forum, for the first time I installed Solid Explorer (File Manager), which by the way is awesome. I was in lasy mood today and knowing it would be problematic but decided to use AirDroid to transfer some files. Initially couple hundred megabytes. Surprisingly, it went smooth. So now I tried like 500MB. Still no problem, and was pretty quick. So now, I actually started to upload like 1GB files (20+ files) at once using AirDroid. While this is taking a place, I realized one set of files uploaded were already complete but I placed in the wrong folder. So I opened Solid Explorer and moved these files WHILE other several hundreds megabyte of files are still being transferred over AirDroid. Basically, I noticed ZERO lag using solid explorer.
Analysis
In above scenario, there has to be intense writing to the disc taking place as I was essentially downloading bunch of files over the WIFI (though it was technically within my network, it should not matter). Sure the file move is just a little tagging so not by any means CPU/GPU or intense process but ZERO lag seems a surprise.
Conclusion
So the issue above does exist but may be it is not as simple as "Flash drive writing is slow." In fact, if anything to me this scenario defends against such conclusion and gives me a hope it is some sort of software/kernel handling USB transfer, or torrent download in comparison to AirDroid application.
So if not anything, I recommend AirDroid for the file transfer from you computer until the issue gets fixed.

Maybe you just received a good unit. My old tPrime could torrent well at 1 bar wifi at 1 megabyte per second and play graphically intensive games at the same time.

There's no major problems with this tablet.
Most of people here are telling everyone about problems, let's say about 100 in total.
And let's say about 10000 tablets already got sold in US, nothing 32&64 gb.
So that's only 0.01% of them are broken one way or another.
That's really good margin for any product.
Unfortunately for those people, but way within standards for Asus.
I had $100 Monster surge protector suddenly die from brand new heater. I bough $25 Belkin, and it's working perfectly for 2 yrs.
Most complains I been reading about saying about that you can't do heavy tasks while tablet is busy copying big files, so what???
This is a tablet, NOT A SERVER.
Copy all your music and video and just use a tablet, it's almost perfect in every other way.

That's actually 1%, but who's counting
While I love the tab, the IO issues are obvious and easily reproduced, not to say that some software doesn't work better than others when dealing with file access. I have little doubt asus will address soon.

Yes, you right, but still very small margin for serious defects.
There's almost no I/o issues during normal usage.
There's no reason to use a tablet while you copying you huge video library or something else.
Other then that you really don't see any lag during normal usage.
On my cell I use a program fast reboot. No root needed, it shuts down all appear almost like hot reboot and you start over, when you have too many background apparel opened.

To add to that... until very recently, you couldnt sync the iPad (or other iOS device) and use it at the same time. That was done for a reason; there were hacks around it for jailbroken users, but there was a noticeable performance hit. Even some android devices unmount the storage from the device to prevent issues like this. I'm not saying there isnt a serious underlying issue, but most of the cases I've heard of involve atypical use.

So you're saying that the standard, builtin browser that throws out ANR messages, rolls over and dies at the simplest web page is "almost perfect in every other way"?
Yes, it's a tablet, but it's also not 1994. If I want to browse the web while downloading the new BF3 Armored Kill 1080p 60fps trailer (the awesomeness in that video...) I shouldn't be able to? Yes, ARM and x86 architectures aren't directly comparable, but we're still talking about a 4-core (well, 5) CPU with 1 GB RAM and a flash drive running a now fairly mature mobile operating system.
This is a $600 product (even more for those of us in the EU or Asia), we're entitled to complain when said product at times performs like a $60 dollar Chinese tablet instead.
Also, anyone admitting to using Monster products pretty much have their credibility thrown out the window immediately.

Some programs mask it by using averages -- and even projection -- so you can't really trust the eye. Total Commander, however, actually shows the file transfer halting every now and then (on .21 firmware, at about 170 MB chunk intervals on full speed copy).

Hahaha! Someone ups your marging by a factor of 10 -- a failure rate of 1% is a lot in a modern and supposedly properly Q&A'd device, by the way. (Again, your personal opinion on the matter notwithstanding.) Almost no I/O issue under normal use? Have you actually installed any app from the Play Store? And, in *my* personal opinion (yes, I have an ass as well), if you provide multitasking capability in an OS, it should be functional and workable. Again, just installing something from the Play Store could hang your device for up to a full minute, whereas installing the same app on every other Android device I have used/owned/seen from a distance doesn't impact performance to the same extent.
I love the tablet, and have a lot of pleasure from its many uses in my particular case. It is not a crusade against the TF700 or ASUS to point towards these issues, although I must admit it is hard to not get a little bit angry at the people that defend their point of view that there simply is not problem at all, eeing that some users in here -- myself included; I've had it since over two weeks before retail -- have had the unit far longer than they have and have had (and taken) ample time to fool around with the device and share their observations. If your unit doesn't exhibit any issues and functions perfectly, well, congratulations! I would never sell that particular unit, and would be extremely saddened when it ultimately fails, for NO DEVICE EVER CONCEIVED BY MAN has been without its faults. To put them into context, fine, I'm with you, but to flush them down the imaginary problem toilet because of your opinion, based on imaginary data (like fantasized sales figures, LOL), going against harder observations from other people... No, that makes my blood pressure rise.

This is a tablet not a laptop. I wouldn't have bought it if it required a fan and exhaust ports for proper temperature control. That would be almost as ridiculous as cellphone with a fan...

All it need is some thermal control on the processor.
The quad-cores can hit 80C.. that's the real issues here.
It's not safe so to speak... The heat does accumulate after a while it will be too hot to even touch it.

I consider downloading an app form the play store and trying to continue to use my tablet normal usage. That said I am not that concerned about the IO issues, as I believe ASUS will fix them soon.
I also do not consider rebooting regularly to clean memory or kill poorly written software a valid argument in any way. That went the way of windows 98.
Most of the issues with android are due to poorly written software and in some case poorly written modules in the OS or poor mutations done by the mfgr. But on a device that really can't run another viable OS, they go hand and hand and it's really unacceptable for device manufacturers to point at the OS as an excuse.

If I created confusion here, I apologize. I did not mean to say "look my tablet is perfect and everyone else got short sticks" I do recognize the issues exist, but I wanted share my experience based on the specific scenario. This particular scenario at least to me speak against potential hardware issue that everyone were concerned about i.e. Flash drive being too slow, or perhaps Tegra 3 chip set cannot handle data writing and do anything else because clearly while AirDroid is receiving 1GB+ data with relatively quick speed without causing any noticeable delay on the system.
I'm not here to argue of which is better but i made the decision after trying so many android tablets. I love android, the widgets, home screen customization, etc. i just felt that the apps are not well optimize (this is not android fault). I really thought that JB butter smooth (even with clean rom installed which i was using) was smooth or smoother than IOS ipad 4gen, boy was i wrong. This is so smooth from the get go, no tweaking, overclocking, etc. I love android for phone (own a GS3) but after using so many android tabs, apps still need alot of work. One thing i have to say about IOS, it looks so outdated, but the apps are more fluid and more polish than android.
i have to say that what really surprise me was Windows 8 tablet. I was at bestbuy trying the new Asus vivo and was blown away by the OS. In the future depending on the apps avail it could be my first choices for tablet.

Seeing how the Nexus 10 is given such a warm welcome, my guess would be that a lot of developers will now also create/optimise apps for tablets.

Thats my point, i have been using android since i can remember. never was happy the way it was shipped out, always needed to rooted it and install customized rom to get it to work faster. Ipad is just perfect from the get go, TF700 tegra 3 overclocked or my other samsung note 10.1 with quad eynox could not run the games, apps, browser, smoothnes like an ipad 4gen. Again not bashing android but the true have to be said and i was one of the apple hater never to buy an apple product.
Second which i did not mention. with apple you don't have to worrry about quality control issues. Seems that they really inspect their devices. no dead pixesl, NO SCREEN SEPARATION, no BACKLIGHT BLEEDING, SCRATCHES from manufacture and other things. i exchanged my asus tablet 5 times until getting a decent one. From now i can only say that Nexus 10 has backlight issues in most of them.
EDIT: things i really miss, having built in hdmi, having a microsd slot, having files just plug in pc drag and drop.

Yes, just like u can find plenty of thread from people who have switch from TF700 to Note 10.1
Yeah iPad 4 even the previous new iPad (3) was pretty quick and snappy, but so is the spectacular-ness of the Blackberry Playbook browser.
I own a Playbook, but I find it's GUI to be about as boring as iOS on the iPad.
Android 4.x (that's ICS, Jellybean and what ever after) GUI has more depth which I like.
Windows 8's new Start menu (Metro) GUI just looks pretty generic to me, and I already know the RT batches of Surface tablets and partner Win RT tablets are inferior by the fact that they are RT and not intel.
I've already seen folks complain about the Surface RT the same problems we see on our Android ARM tablets. So it would be wise to wait to January 2013 when Microsoft unleashes the real PC tablets, Windows 8 Pro powered by Intel i5, i7 and next gen Atom cpu.

Why all the hate people? Like it or not the apps on iOS are better. iOS has been and still is smoother than any android device. This guy is not lying when he says that the iPad is good straight out of the box.
Don't be fanboys. Accept the fact that android needs work (at least on the tablet side of things).
There are times when this tablet (infinity) has passed me off, with its random freezes and hardware issue. Hopefully with the nexus 10 out, developers will start making tablet optimized apps (and hopefully soon Google makes a tablet specific section in the play store, so we don't have to guess which app is for tablets!!!).
Google really needs to set specific hardware requirements and needs to really work on smoothness. For example, screen rotation on the iPad is unbelievably smooth, it like the screen is on a pivot. While rotating it on android looks very choppy and it drops frames.
What pisses me off about iOS tho is the lack of (access) to a file system and its closed system. So still tho android all the way.
I guess to each his own because I have an ipad3 within arms reach and I choose my infinity every time. My son and wife use the ipad though so it's not completely unused. I used the ipad3.. gave it a chance, but I didn't find it to be omg smoother. I didn't find the retina display to be omg better either. What I did find is that I love the keyboard and that without it, the extra battery, and the added storage, the ipad will just sit there as long as I have a choice to pick up my infinity. Not saying you made the wrong choice, just saying to each his own. peace

I'm iPodless untill mid-february just because of their lousy customer support. And I've already heard it's been declared dead, so I get a 70% refund (because I paid for the additional 3 (ahem, official+2) years insurance) but not untill the thing comes back from the factory. In China. For which I have to pay the transport costs myself. And guess what isn't for sale anymore. That's right, the iPod nano 5th. I have to pay 100 euros extra just because they messed up, plus extra costs for yet another cover and such. And a new docking station, because my 300 euro Bose one won't fit anymore. FU Apple.
Asus might refuse to fix your device for free if you unlocked it, but that's a choice you make. If you open up your Xbox, you void warranty just as much because of the seal on it. Unlocking is no different, other than that it's done via software. But at least they have a decent warranty for 3 years, and you can just send it back if it breaks. They don't make you jump through 50 hoops just to get in touch with the store, because you have 'non-itunes originating music on your ipod'. At least Asus doesn't whine about something which is bloody legal here!.
Just for the record, thousands of people DID get a decent Infinity straight away. It's just that some people don't appear to be smart enough to realize that if you get two broken tablets from the same store in a short space of time, the whole shipment might be faulty. They just keep going back and getting more broken ones, and blame Asus for it...

Really? So I guess all those reports of iPhones 5 coming out of the box all scratched up were bunk, right? I guess all those backlight bleeding topics about iPads were all made up too? I guess the yellow tinging of screens that was blamed on glue not being dry from factory didn't actually pop up?
Know what the fact is? It's all luck of the draw. I've been at this board for 4 days now, but these topics "I got xxxxx, see you later!" as if you're rubbing it in everyone's face is moronic at best. No one cares if you jumped ship and got a different tablet.

I think this ^^ pretty much sums it up. Why the hell should we care what you've sold and/or bought? This is the Infinity forum -- go to the Apple forums and tel them how happy you are. They're bound to like it, whereas here the entire forum gets clogged up.

I gave my wife an ipad. Trust me, first impression is that its great hardware, but its not the ipad thats the problem, its Apple. The longer you use it for day to day stuff, the more you will realize how much freedom you gave up. A year from now, you r going to have wifi issues, ramdom locking and no way to fix them and no community to turn to. Anyways, good luck to you and come back and let us know how your experience with ipad goes after several months. Really looking forward to hear about it.
By the way, i offered her to buy her a newer model ipad and she flat out refused. She never wants to deal with apples bull**** again. I never loved that women more.

Frankly, he should never have made this post at all. It serves NO purpose to the community, short of drumming up angry conversations. To be blunt.. you leaving is your choice, and every decision doesn't need to be shared (thank you facebook generation).
Ever since ~September of 2012 when Windows 8 was released and I tried it for the first time, I have been giving this idea a lot of thought. Mobile devices are becoming so powerful and more and more people are ditching their computer for an iPad / other tabet, which is almost equally as powerful as their old computer. Take the newly announced Tegra 4 APU. It has 72 freaking graphics cores!!!!! I run a laptop with a Geforce 555M that has 96 cuda cores, and I use that for intensive gaming. That is insane! What would ANYONE need 72 graphics cores on a mobile device for? The most graphically intensive android game I can think of off the top of my head is NOVA 3, and honestly, does that need a quad core processor, 72 graphics cores, and (probably becoming standard). 2GB of ram? NO! So why do companies pack those rediculous specs into a phone/tablet for? Does anyone else remember the days of a 1GHz single core Athlon processor on a desktop, and that was considered the best? Now dont get me wrong, I'm not saying we should throttle mobile devices just for the sake of throttling them, but I am trying to get my point across that there is no reason for those kinds of specs to be packed into a device that was originally intended to make calls.
I'm not ranting/raving or anything. Sorry if it comes across that way. I'm just curious to see if anyone is still out there that isn't converting to an average consumer who just cares how many gpu/cpu cores and how much ram they can get into a 4" cell phone.
My dad was never big into computers. Now that he has a smartphone, he says he hardly ever uses his desktop. So, for a lot of people, I think that their mobile devices can perform and replace the functions of a "for pleasure" desktop. Obviously, this is not going to cut it for the kind of gamer who cares about overclocking and liquid cooling - there's just more freedom with a custom desktop build, but I'm sure they'll appreciate mobile gaming, too - I know I do.
A phone might be a little small for web-browsing, but not everyone is big into that. Apps for e-mail, Facebook, eBay - those cover a lot of "normal" use.
And a 10" tablet is a good size to enjoy full web-browsing. For me, personally, it's not entirely the same, but it's close enough for most of my uses. I still prefer the desktop for some things, but I can do them without much trouble on the tablet, too. For me, a tablet with keyboard has taken the place of a laptop - I still like having a desktop for movies, games, and backup - but a tablet covers all the things I needed a laptop for. I think a lot of people can find that is true, who don't use their laptops for much "heavy lifting" - they'll find that a tablet is smaller, lighter, and does a lot of things very well.
With the lowering price of tablets, I do think that they will be able to take a good part of the consumer market that will find they don't need a laptop or even desktop (and we know that desktops have already been on the way out for the average consumer).

The GTX 680M (Nvidia Kepler card for laptops) is running on 1184 or so CUDA-cores.
The high end desktop Keplers I can't recall, but it's safe to say that the less than hundred cores in the Tegra 4 SoC really only tells you one thing:
Mobile units just cannot -at least for a very long time- replace stationary electronics.
I don't remember the clock speed of the Tegra cores, but the Kepler cards run at over 1GHz.
When materials allow power supply, battery lifetime and passive cooling comparable to what is available to a stationary unit, then mobile units will replace them.

I think that there will always be a need for desktop computers, at least in the foreseeable future. Mobile devices are good and quite convenient for media consumption, but try doing any kind of serious work on one. Electronics will continue to become more and more miniaturized, and it's possible that one day desktops will simply be a thing of the past, but we still have a long way to go.
(Here's hoping that we see holography in our lifetimes!)

I think it depends on the consumer. Most consumers are ditching desktops for laptops. The laptops in some cases function just like a desktop would, almost always at home and plugged in - but people are staying away from machines that aren't portable more than ever.
Desktops are certainly still needed for heavy lifting - gaming and many work applications. But for a person who's not in a tech field, a laptop can do all the word-processing one could need as well as email and simple company applications. People who use computers as an accessory tool, not a primary one, don't need a desktop since a laptop can provide the same power they'd have gotten in a bigger, immobile box. And this way they can work from the couch or kitchen table.
Tablets aren't going to take over things like word-processing, although I can see farther in the future the modular concept expanded upon (I use my ASUD Transformer for word-processing quite often).
