Do me a favor and from your stock browser on your ICS phone, try to access this web site:
http://goo.gl/JvqyR
You can't can ya? But my gingerbread stock browser can.
All this web site is, is a login page from my favorite late night talk radio program Coast To Coast AM. From your computer, and from any level of Android your able to access this page except ICS and JB.
Right now, my phone is running gingerbread and I'm able to select the link and view the login page. If i upgraded my phone to ICS, i wouldn't be able to view it!
I don't believe the carriers make any difference.
Now, there are only a few browsers that can access the link.
Firefox - yes
Dolphin HD - no
Chrome - no
Oracle - yes
Stock - no
When Samsung released ICS for my Galaxy S 2, i couldn't access this website from my favorite browsers anymore. It's like the upgrade brake my phone from the start.
Why? Can your stock ICS browser can? if so, what phone are you on, and rom?

Maxthon-no
Opera Mobile-yes
Sent from my HTC_Amaze_4G using xda app-developers app
Some of these browsers access broken core services that belong with ICS (Dolphin HD), and some other browsers somehow bypass these ICS service because they have their own (example: Firefox).
My instinct is leaning towards a kernel issue.. but Im a total noob, so i don't know.

You are correct thats a no on evo 3d
I can access it on my 3d EVO. Still on gingerbread though. No update yet, Telstra and gsm.

No luck on chrome and integrated Ics browser....

Can't access it either using Chrome on Jelly Bean. Doubt it's the OS's fault since different browsers behave differently. The upgrade probably changed the stock browser (for worse).

Could support for flash be an issue?
Will check this on wifi...
hmm.
This is truly Strange.

I believe it has something to do with a core service built into ICS and possibly JB that the 'stock' browser and some others depend on. In my opinion, Firefox is a 'walled garden' meaning it doesn't depend an any service within the phone, so it works. Yet, Google Chrome browser depends on some 'lib' file somewhere that doesn't understand secure long URLs.

Just throwing this out there to see which broswers everyone is using. I personally like the stock one. I used firefox for a little bit but since it was only still in beta it wasn't the greatest. Ie wouldn't format correctly with zoom and radio buttons and txt boxes wouldn't function properly. I haven't given dolphin a try or any other browser that might be out there. Let's see what your opinions are.........

I use FireFox just because of the FF sync with my laptop and desktop, but it sucks that I have to switch to the default to watch flash content.

+1 Miren!
10Char
depending on device, I use many:
Low end phone (huawei ascend on cm7) maxathon browser, renders pages astronomically faster than any other browser
Mid-end phone (htc hd2 -hyperdroid cm7) stock, kills miren/skyfire/maxathon/dolphin on my phone, easily. The flash integration is amazing in android's stock browser is more than enough to get the job done, completely content with my 6 second loading time for massive pages.
Tablets (transformer-stock 3.1 rom) I have no clue, the stock browser feels like the ipad in responsiveness and rendering (great thing) but occasionally "freaks out" and acts glitchy, have yet to experiment

Miren
.......
What is it about Miren that everyone likes? I installed it hoping to configure it differently than the stock browser for use with certain websites. I quickly found out it is just an overlay of the stock browser and the settings where the same for both. I did like the tabbed feature it added. Can someone tell me if Dolphin is the same, an overlay that uses the stock browser?

Try Dolphin HD. I have Miren and Dolphin but prefer Dolphin. Then again I don't have a problem with the stock one...
the stock one is fine by me....
Although I don't use....I believe Dolphin HD is prob. the best alternative
Firefox (which I am avid Firefox user) is HORRIBLE....well not horrible but horribly slow ATM.....I will wait til' they develop it more
I use stock........nothing seems worth it to trade for (although havn't tried Miren, so I will)
I kept going back to the stock one as well...

Then you haven't tried Miren. Seriously, I won't ever use stock again.
Instant forward and back, use volume keys or swipe direction to do so. That sold it for me.

Hi all,
Does anyone else have really bad scrolling, etc with their stock browser? I can hardly scroll the simplest pages and when it does move it moves in one big choppy motion with no fluid movement at all.
Anyone else experience this?
I am running LinuxBozo Beta 9 with the I9000 SensatioN ROM if that matters...

Peronally everytime i flash a Rom i go directly.to market for.my.dolphin.hd browser.

I also use Dolphin browser HD. Even before using the stock browser on newly installed roms, I go straight for Dolphin. It is smooth, fast and I love the UI. You can try other browsers too depending on what you like!
Hmm... Surprisingly, Dolphin for me, would be laggy most of the times, and the scrolling was many times choppy.
I personly get dolphin.hd browser asap. I do this since I read alot from Fanfiction.net when I do not get service so I can set it to save the web pages with "Save this page" via a gester and then jump to the bottom of the page with another gester so I can save multiple chapters at one time. When reading them "Save this page" has its own browser.
Try Opera Mobile. It's the smoothest scrolling browser i've tried on the infuse.

Yeah. That's the one I use. The only problem I've had is that it doesn't want to connect to my university's website, but it really isn't a big deal. Scrolls great, loads great, and the tabs work really well.

My SGSII browser is smooth as butter and has no lag what so ever. I have the international version of the SGSII.
That browser is so fast that more often than not when I'm scrolling with it I overshoot where I wanna go because it just takes off... LOL.
I installed Opera on my Infuse and it seems to work very nicely. I forgot how nice it was when I had my Samsung Omnia running Windows Mobile 6.1 Professional...

Just wondering what everyone's opinion on browsers is. I'm using chrome right now cause I'm on aokp and wanted to try it but usually stick to the stock browser or maxthon. I've read good things about dolphin and a browser called uc.
So what do you use?
I've used several just to see what they're like but I always end up using the stock browser and uninstalling the others.

Boat browser works pretty good for me. Pretty fast as well.
Just read about privacy concerns with Dolphin:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/sho...Dolphin's collection of your browsing history
Supposedly fixed in version 7 but bothered me so I switched to Boat Browser which I like better. Customizable side bar, more start page speed dial spots, seems smoother, no random closes, etc. I'm a fan so far.
I don't understand why this is being disabled by browsers, chrome won't let you use it, dolphin browser disabled the feature and it also says to refer to iPhone 5 that its no longer supporting it on android devices..
I installed adobe from the website not the store.. works fine on stock browser after enabling always on..
Are they removing flash player all together? What the heck will we use? Pleanty of sites require flash player..

It's more the fact that most browsers never supported flash on android. Chrome didn't. Dolphin used some server side processing to allow support for flash websites but that wasn't true flash.
You've just gotta use the stock browser (or ics browser if not on jb) if you need Flash. It is still also possible to have flash player on jb, despite a lot of people complaining it isn't possible.

Well thinking of current standards, there are different implementations of things, css html asp and the browsers support them all. So in reality the browsers will probably support all different variations (if it does go that way), as long as they at least vaguely follow the original standards.

Flash is being phased out in mobile devices since its memory and cpu intensive and generally has poor performance on mobile compared to a desktop. Apple began the transition with others following. Hopefully the transition will be over by 2014.
Is Chrome the native browser for JB? And if it is, am I going to lose my current native browser when Verizon finally gets around to putting out an update for my stock gs3? I find it to be much faster than chrome...
Sent from my SCH-I535 using XDA Premium HD app
I don't forsee Android switching browsers mid-stream like that. I know that chrome is the native browser on some ROMs only because the developer swapped it out for their personal preference.
Ahh..I thought it was the built in browser on jelly bean. Am I incorrect about this?

Thanks for the response. I Love chrome especially the"other devices feature" but I hate that I can't set a homepage, and the native is just a little faster still.

Personally I hate chrome on my phone. Love it on my PC with all the plugins it's got. Just garbage on the phone tho, the whole 'sync' thing isn't worth it for me to lose other basic functionality of most of the other browsers. Plus there's a plugin for the PC where you can send your phone links anyways directly to a download or webpage, whatever.
