So I unlocked a Lumia 710, but I cant get Internet to work! - General Topics

I have a Galaxy Nexus on Bell Mobility, it uses a regular Sim card. I purchased a Rogers Lumia 710 (takes a small sim card), I had it unlocked, I cut my sim card to fit.
Now my Galaxy Nexus works fine with the sim card, 3G works fine...etc but when I use it in my Lumia, I can get the cell coverage and sms working, but I cant get Internet to work!. The icon shows me 3G, but I cant use any Internet services (marketplace, browsing, email..etc) unless I connect to wifi!
I havent called Bell yet, however I figured I should look around first, as I doubt they will be much help since they dont sell the Lumia. Is it possible that I cut the card wrong??

Not sure if this will help, but I was in a similar place. I had an unlocked Lumia 710 from Rogers on AT&T. I got the 3G symbol but couldn't get it to work. Check to make sure your vpn is set correctly

I dont think you meant VPN rather APN
After many searchs through this entire site I came across a reference to this site. I entered what information I could and it works, so far I only have to configure my voicemail.

XDA Mini S / UK 3 Network

I have just upgraded my O2 XDA Mini S to an O2 XDA Orbit. I'm trying to pass the wizard on to my son who currently is in a monthly contract with the UK 3 network. Both the Wizard and Orbit will not recognise the 3 sim. I've searched widely and find a lot of conflicting opinion but some say that the 3g card will work on a 2g phone (albeit talk and text only without the 3g frills). Does anyone have any advice. The wizard is unlocked and accepts O2 and Voda cards. Is it the O2 software that needs replacing or is it that the card will never work on this particular unit.
Thanks
Three Network now has both GSM and 3G coverage for a full UK coverage. As such, it *sometimes* works on non-3G phone. Depending on your area, I think. But, in general non3G phone (i.e. the Wizard) doesnt work well with Three

Thanks for the rapid reply. Yes, the fact that 3 backs up on to Orange to give full coverage set me wondering. The phone will not even accept the sim - saying no sim or invalid sim. Is there some kind of barring actually operating on the sim to prevent it's recognition by any phone other than a 3 supplied unit? Odd one this.
Well, the common one is SIM-LOCK phone, that the case where the phone is locked to a specific SIM only. i.e. A-SIM in A-Phone, B-SIM doens't work in A-Phone.
However, it is unlikely that you have a Phone-lock SIM, or rather, barred IMEI. That is, the network only works on phone (i.e. with the IMEI) that is registered with the network. Hence, A-SIM will not work on B-Phone because B-Phone's IMEI is not registered with A-Network. Technically, you can do that, but I can't seems to see what's the business benifit of it. Further, you may check this buy going to their website and see if they are selling SIM only package. If so, they are unlikely to be blocking unregistered IMEI, more likely they (the phones) are not compatible with three network.
If you were to go to the Universal forum, there are people using Universal (a 3G phone) with Three Network. I'm not sure if these phones are from them, but my hunch is they are not.
Thanks for the info
Regards
I have this problem on mine too i wan to use a 3 sim in mine, mine is unlocked to all networks but three sims dont work, believe three sims are a different type of sim and thus dont work in phones not designed to take that type of sim, as my bro has a newer pocket pc phone and m sim works ok in that, think iv read somewhere they use different voltages or frequecy or something?!?

What works with an unlocked iPhone?

I have an HTC 8525 on the AT&T network. I know that locked iPhones can only use the sim that they come with but what about the unlocked ones?
If I pop my at&t sim with a pda plan in an unlocked iPhone what can I expect to work or not work? Obviously the visual voicemail is a no go, but what about general internet, email, and wifi access?
Thanks!
i'd asume it would work ok
yea ul be able to use pretty much everything,e-mail,wifi,internet,gmaps,etc....there r a few 3rd party softwares available which u can install....but everytime itunes installs an update the iPhone gets sim locked and the 3rd party softwares dun work nemore....sucks huh??
So the updates aren't an elected thing? When the phone as wifi or internet access it will just pop on the update and botch the unlock? That does suck one.
If you unlock an iPhone with v 1.0.2 or v 1.1.1 and put your at&t sim from the 8525 - or any other SIM - the only thing that will not work is visual voicemail. Voicemail will still work: notifications, dialpad for deleting and storing, etc. If you use a non-AT&T SIM you will need to manually set up the edge data connection with the appropriate carriers APN settings.
This site should have all the information you need:

Thanks for the info and the link, I'll check out that site. I knew this wasn't the best place for an iphone question but its my favorite site
I talked to AT&T and they said that I could pop my AT&T sim in a new or used iphone and the phone would work fine but that I would not have net/email service since I am not on the iPhone plan. The rep went on to say that I could switch from my mediamax plan to the iphone plan and when I put the sim card back in non-iphone the net/email would still work like it was on the mediamax plan! This seems highly unlikely to me but who knows.
Anyone with an iPhone and the iPhone plan tried popping their sim card in a non-iPhone and trying out some internet?

AirFire Mobile

So where i live we have another option for gsm networks called air fire mobile... I called at&t to get my unlock code after giving me my code they asked what my intentions were, i told them to switch networks. The rep then told me my inspire would not work on this other gsm network called airfire. I dont know if air fire is a national thing or what but in case not here is there web site. http://www.airfiremobile.com/
Well i went to airfire mobile and they said my phone would have to be unlocked so i had them put there sim card into my phone and nothing popped up for unrecognized sim card..... My g/f has a htc aria and she got the option to unlock sim she put the unlock code in she had received and it worked but her phone could not recognize air fire's network only there roaming service with is covered by at&t... is there something with HTC phones that will not allow us to use this network, or are there any steps we need to do once the new sim cards are in the phones like settings and apns numbers or anything? Please help looking to escape my raping by at&t each month lol
You should have no issues with ATT phones working on AirFire. Looks like they use the same bands as ATT. And maybe she was showing as roaming because she was actually roaming. There is only local coverage in wisconsin. This page shows everything you need to know except nowhere on the site does it say they offer 3G. I am guessing it is edge only.
http://www.airfiremobile.com/Support
thank you for you help, when i asked the lady if they offer 3g her response was we offer 2.5g lol im guessing that would be edge?? Also when i go Menu>settings>wireless and networks>mobile networks>Network operators: the only thing that comes up is at&t. This is with my at&t sim card in, but shouldnt it show airfire also? or does my phone need to be unlocked before it will show airfire?? so confusing lol
Is your phone sim unlocked? You said you got the code from ATT but never said if you were able to enter it sucessfully. Is your phone rooted? If yes then during the rooting process it will become sim unlocked. So if you phone happens to be sim unlocked then select "network operators" and do a search for your new network. And YES you have to have an AirMobile sim or all you will see is ATT with an ATT sim card.
Just in case you don't understand, you unlock the phone to use any simcard. You are not unlocking the sim card to use any carrier.
As far as data it is an ATT phone. It does not have the APN for AirFire Mobile. You will have to enter that yourself as a new APN.
yes my phone is rooted, i never knew that by rooting it unlocks the phone, maybe that would explain why when i put the airfire sim in the box never came up asking for the unlock code?
But even still when the g/f had the airfire sim in her aria and she unlocked her phone it showed airfire network but it was roaming.. and didn't show there home network, the rep at the store said it could be something within the hardware from htc??? and at&t told me my inspire wouldn't work on airfire because my phone was 4g phone.. which i dont see why a 4g phone cant come down to Edge network if thats what airfire is
Any ATT phone will be able to make calls and connect to data on AirFire's 2.5G system if thats what they call it.
Let's just say that the rep at the store should be selling shoes.

Your right the guy is stupid. First the inspire can't connect to att 4g network that is not even 4g. As long as they are GSM based you are at least gonna get edge. I don't even want him selling me shoes lol

[Q] [HELP] Vodaphone AU, Black Unlocked a108b on AT&T in U.S.

Need some expertise on this one!
So I bought the ChaCha unlocked on Ebay because I wanted a black Android phone with a portrait keyboard and liked the look of the black model from AU's Vodafone network. While it's reading the network as AT&T when I put my SIM Card in, I'm getting absolutely no data to the phone...in other words...none of my android apps will work unless I'm connected to WiFi. I can make calls, but that's it.
I've taken it to 3 AT&T stores here in the U.S. and they've tried connecting it to the data servers using different phone codes, but have been unsuccessful. These codes are normally 10+ characters in length.
Does anyone know what code would work on this phone in the U.S. on the AT&T network.
If it's not possible as is, is there a way to edit/change something to get it to work on a certain data code
All information is appreciated! Thanks!
Here's the phone I purchased:

Anybody have any idea or suggestions? Is it a radio issue...do I need to flash another radio or is the hardware just not meant to work on the AT&T network in the U.S.? I can't figure out why calls work on GSM (it says my provider is AT&T) but data won't come through. Should I put it as GSM/WCDMA auto instead of GSM only...will that do anything?
My current radio is: 7.51.35.19

[Q] Razr HD XT925 not connecting to LTE

I just bought a Fido Razr HD for connecting to Rogers network. To my surprise, I was able to connect to Rogers even though it is a Fido phone. Never the less, I paid and got the phone sim unlocked. But I noticed that my Razr never connect to LTE. It always shows it connected as H+, which I assume to be the HSPA+ network. I verfied the following:
-Rogers LTE APN for mobile - checked this against entries posted here on XDA for Rogers
-Network select set to GSM/HSPA/LTE (Auto)
I do get a strange error every time i change from another sim back to my Rogers's one, it says something like no suitable network -15, something like that. I assume my problem has to do with it being a Fido rom working on Rogers.
Am I missing something really obvious?
Thanks,

Have you tried configuring phone according to SIM?.. Configuring it according to sim will load Rogers ROM on it and it will install all Rogers crapware along on it. But i think if you don't see the LTE , it is worth trying. Also make sure your area have LTE coverage.

Yes I have already converted to crap Rogers bloatware rom. It does that automatically when you put in a Rogers sim. Now I got bloatware and still no LTE. My Rogers work iPhone is happily LTE'ing at like 20 mbps, this one is only doing 5 mbps, booo.

hmmm.. okay.. do one thing.. Go to setting and then mobile networks and Select network.. make sure GSM/HSPA/LTE (Auto Mode) is selected. Secondly, Remove the sim and restart the phone and then re-insert the sim and see if it works. If still it don't. Simplay factory reset it and check.
Just here to share my experience because I had a similar problem too.
I'm with fido carrier and got the razr hd with fido (in futureshop) which sucks.
Anyways long story short, same thing happened to me it kept on staying on H+ which I did speed test is only around 2-5 average...mostly 2max.
So I went in LOTS troubles finding out what's wrong and GUESS WHAT when I get the phone and the micro sim card with the sales HE SAID it IS LTE supported (because there are two different micro sim cards....one supports LTE and one doesn't)
Then I went through all troubles and finally had to talk to on of the representatives ONLINE and tell them to send me a LTE micro sim card.
For my fido sim card it does say LTE on it but don't trust the people you call you gotta force them to send you an LTE micro sim card because I called LOTS times to fido and some say on there should be LTE labelled on the micro sim and some say don't know and some say it shouldn't which pisses me off a lot until I did the ONLINE chat and they finally send me the LTE micro sim card and it works....
But one thing is don't expect to have LTE everywhere in Vancouver because as for now, I know I get LTE more in burnaby like near metro (but not in metro hahah...sometimes not always) and not a lot places in Richmond as for downtown not too sure because I went there 2-3 times only got H+ but I don't go there often.
At least i know LTE works which is the main point so I guess after all you have done, make make make sure your micro sim is LTE compatible.
P.S. for fido the LTE is included when I sign the contract so no charge to me for them to send me one but I'm not sure about rogers.
Hope this helps more or less.

Hey everyone, thanks for all the responses. Just prior to reading this thread, i came to the same conclusion that this is sim related as I put my micro sim into my girlfriend's LTE phone, it can only go up to HSPAP. I realized that it must be sim based. I was cheap and just cut down my old sim, i assume my old one did not support LTE on Rogers. And with this response I am 80% sure this is the problem. I will go pay 10 buck and enjoy blazing LTE tomorrow!!!
Thanks all!!

Oh they just letting you know....which I didn't say because it was a super long story that's why I briefly said it....somehow DO check if your rogers micro sim card says LTE or not on it because what I left out and didn't easy earlier was that I went to buy a micro sim card at the store and I asked for micro sim card...and at last they still only give me a regular micro sim card that's why I kept on confused if it does say LTE on it and went online chat to complain what happened. So double triple make sure or if you know someone in rogers store then it'll be good too. Because after I got the fake LTE they kept on saying on maybe because the tower delay wait for a day or two some said and some said few hours but guess what! when fido mailed me the LTE card the LTE works RIGHT AWAY....so ya...find a way to make sure the card is LTE micro.
