Sensation AT&T Radios - HTC Sensation

Is there a way to flash a radio for the Sensation 4g that would allow for AT&T's 4g network?

i think access to at&t's 4g network is related to hardware rather than what radio version your using. if you have a bell or telstra sensation then you should have no problems with 3g but im not sure about 4g, i dont have a data plan

Yeah...You're talking software radios...Not the same thing...
Like the person above says basically. Hardware radio is not the same and will not work unless you have a Canadian one and AT&T's 4G HSPA+ is not faster than their 4G and doesn't even have that strong of a footprint to notice the difference.

Would there be a way to move a Captivate from AT&T to T-Mobile and get 3g?

I remember that it was discovered that either the captivate or the vibrant could be hacked to run on the other carrier's network because the radio was capable of those bands. I don't remember which one of those phones it was though.

[Q] Can Inspire 4G radio be altered by flashing a new ROM?

Hi all
Just a quick question about the radio and flashing.
I understand that when a device is flashed to a custom ROM, that a radio is cooked in. (am I correct?)
Now my situation is this. I live in Australia, and am thinking of purchasing a 2nd hand Inspire 4G (AT&T) from the US, but from my research, due to the Inspire's (from AT&T) frequencies being 850/1900, this causes a small problem in Australia, where only telstra's NextG network operates on this band.
So in effect, I would be limited to NextG if I had this phone in Australia. the other major carrier here (optus) uses 900/2100.
Not a biggie right now as I use telstra nextg, but I may want to change.
So, question would be, when a phone is flashed, can I change the radio via the ROM, or is the frequencies a phone uses controlled by hardware?
thanks.
It's hardware mate.

thanks mate.
now to decide if its worth it.....can get one pretty cheap compared to here in Australia.
Check out tmobile I don't recall the bands they use but they sell the desire HD which is the Inspire 4G for them.
Edit: http://www.htc.com/www/smartphones/htc-desire-hd/#specs
Looks like it is 900/2100
So now the question is, what provider will you stick to in Australia

Yeah its a tough decision ...I'm going to be moving soon to study, and where I'm going both carriers are good, but telstra is prob the dearest. Where I currently live needs telstra and I get a sim card through work (I use my own phone though)
So I basically need a 850 phone for 3 months then I can use whatever .......
I just bought one and I am on Telstra. I also have a desire hd. Inspire in my opinion is the best choice.
Inspire can still run on Optus. My missus uses it occasionally with no issues.

sensation & sensation 4g

every now and then i see people saying "this rom is compatible with the sensation and sensation 4g" do is there really two different sensations and if there is, could someone put a pic of both of them in the comments cause i dont undersatnd the difference
They are the same thing.
I think it just means that if you have a T-Mobile 4g that you will get the wifi calling and other T-Mobile specific apps. And if the rom detects that you don't then it won't install those apps. But I'm not sure.

International Sensation vs T-Mobile US Sensation 4G. US version has different radio that operates on the "4G" band that T-Mobile uses. Not really any hardware difference other than an additional antenna for TMOUS. Some ROMs may only have support for the international version, others may only support US version. Most ROMs support both though.

All roms work on either phone but tmous stock roms have extra apps which are network specific like wifi calling. If anything it's only a users choice of radio that makes any meaningful difference to compatibility.

Sensation VS Amaze

I had an HTC Amaze for about a week and then my wife wanted a smart phone too so I sold it to buy two HTC sensations. The only problem I am having now is that my service where I work is a lot worse with the sensation. I don't know if it is just the phone I have or if it would be the same with any sensation. I found a cheaper HTC Amaze on a craigslist type site here in salt lake and I am thinking of buying it, but I wanted some of your opinions. Should I try to root my sensation and see if with a different radio I get better service or should I buy the HTC Amaze. I have rooted phones before but then I become a flashaholic and I spend too much time on my phone. I like the size of the Sensation but if I don't want to root again would the Amaze be worth the extra hundred I would have to spend over the price I can sale my Sensation for? Your opions and thoughts would be very helpfull.
Thanks
Eddy
Sorry I probably should have posted this in Q&A.
It's. Hard to say because I have nevee used an Amaze and I haven't hhave any issues with my Sensation reception either, someone that have used both might be able to give you their insight.

Try another radio, I've heard that can help if you have reception issues.
Personally, I would not change due to reception issues. You are not at work 24/7...

depends on what phone you like better, i think u miss your old amaze lol
youve got nothing to lose just rooting and flashing another radio really
I don't think sensation is better than Amaze. Everthing is the same but Amaze hasa much much better camera => thumb up
amaze has more ram as well
You need to make sure your RIL file matches the radio you are using. With a matched RIL i get HSDPA signal at hom, without it i barely get EDGE.
go to Settings>About Phone>More>Baseband version (radio)
Then get the matching RIL HERE
Well I think that sensation wins

The amaze has dual radios so it takes two connections at once resulting in a faster speed
i would have to say the amaze since i did experience some lag on the sensation when i had one.

Wrong, on both points.
T-Mobile uses dual channel HSPA+, which is essentially 2 21mbps radios slapped together.
And wimax does need dual radios, but LTE only needs 2 on Verizon. On AT&T, it'll all in one radio.

I thought croandroid was an idiot until this post. It really is all about the dev community. Good call.
The Sensation has AMAZING dev support. Has some REALLY talented folks cooking and coding for it, and in general is a great device.
I own a Sensation and my wife owns an Amaze....
I have had LOTS of problems with my sensation though, I've been through 3 sensations through tmobile, and even sent one to HTC to have it looked at. Phone has never been right for me.
Tmo has just issued me a replacement, it will be here monday, they are sending me an Amaze, not nearly the dev support for that phone, but at least i'll be able to have a running phone and able to make calls.

I went through the same thing with my g2x. When it worked it worked great. I ended up swapping it for the gs2 and its amazing. My gf still has her g2x we got at the same time and it random reboots.

Combing two points is a dual cell. Which is one radio capable of dual channels. Other devices still get affected by the network. None of the other non lte or wimax devices improve non lte and wimax devices. Which are separate radios. Two radios slap together is still one radio.
I'm just wondering how at&t can put lte on one radio when a bigger company namely Verizon didn't do it either. T-Mobile is still using its aws frequency and at&t is using 850 and 1900 frequency. For its lte its using 700mhz. Just like Verizon.

Is it possible to flash the HTC sensation to Verizon

Sent from my ADR6400L using Tapatalk
Don't live in the US but don't Verizon use LTE and CDMA and T-Mobile USA use HSPA + which is GSM?
So I assume the actual hardware would be different which means you couldn't just flash the Sensation to Verizon?
Jar curious because I'm getting one for free
Sent from my ADR6400L using Tapatalk
I have not heard of a CDMA Sensation, so my answer on this question would be a no, as the Sensation is traditionally a GSM device.
No. Not possible at all.

I have an HTC Thunderbolt which has a SIM card for verizon 4g LTE and I have a sensation 4g (t-mobile) i got used for a steal and I can put my sim card in the sensation. the previous posts dont help me because Im a noob and am confused
Please help
Doesn't matter if you can put the sim card from Verizon into the Sensation, it's not going to work. The Sensation does not use LTE, so an LTE sim isn't going to work.
ok, thank you. Can I unlock it or will it still not work?

No. It depends on hardware, not software Simply answer: Sorry, but no

[Q] Selecting yes or no when asked if I have a sensation 4G

Every ROM that I've flashed asks if I have a sensation 4G and if I would like to flash the T-Mobile Add-ons. If I select no because I don't want the add-ons, will I still get 4G support?
Thank you,
If you want to get technical, you won't get 4G support with any sensation because it's more like 3G+. But I digress.
All the T Mobile apps are is the wife calling, the account look up thingy, and a few other gizmos you need to be on T Mobile's network to use.
If you skip those add ons, everything else about the phone will be exactly the same, including data speeds.
T Mobile just branded their version as the Sensation 4G. It doesn't mean that non t mobiles aren't 4G.
In other words, do ahead and skip it. You're good.
If you are in USA and with T-Mobile flash it. If not, skip it.
You are in Canada, so just skip it.

You only really need it if T-Mobile is your service provider, it doesn't really matter on any other carrier even if you have the tmobile branded one
