I had an HTC Amaze for about a week and then my wife wanted a smart phone too so I sold it to buy two HTC sensations. The only problem I am having now is that my service where I work is a lot worse with the sensation. I don't know if it is just the phone I have or if it would be the same with any sensation. I found a cheaper HTC Amaze on a craigslist type site here in salt lake and I am thinking of buying it, but I wanted some of your opinions. Should I try to root my sensation and see if with a different radio I get better service or should I buy the HTC Amaze. I have rooted phones before but then I become a flashaholic and I spend too much time on my phone. I like the size of the Sensation but if I don't want to root again would the Amaze be worth the extra hundred I would have to spend over the price I can sale my Sensation for? Your opions and thoughts would be very helpfull.
Thanks
Eddy
Sorry I probably should have posted this in Q&A.
It's. Hard to say because I have nevee used an Amaze and I haven't hhave any issues with my Sensation reception either, someone that have used both might be able to give you their insight.

Try another radio, I've heard that can help if you have reception issues.
Personally, I would not change due to reception issues. You are not at work 24/7...

depends on what phone you like better, i think u miss your old amaze lol
youve got nothing to lose just rooting and flashing another radio really
I don't think sensation is better than Amaze. Everthing is the same but Amaze hasa much much better camera => thumb up
amaze has more ram as well
You need to make sure your RIL file matches the radio you are using. With a matched RIL i get HSDPA signal at hom, without it i barely get EDGE.
go to Settings>About Phone>More>Baseband version (radio)
Then get the matching RIL HERE
Well I think that sensation wins

The amaze has dual radios so it takes two connections at once resulting in a faster speed
i would have to say the amaze since i did experience some lag on the sensation when i had one.

Wrong, on both points.
T-Mobile uses dual channel HSPA+, which is essentially 2 21mbps radios slapped together.
And wimax does need dual radios, but LTE only needs 2 on Verizon. On AT&T, it'll all in one radio.

I thought croandroid was an idiot until this post. It really is all about the dev community. Good call.
The Sensation has AMAZING dev support. Has some REALLY talented folks cooking and coding for it, and in general is a great device.
I own a Sensation and my wife owns an Amaze....
I have had LOTS of problems with my sensation though, I've been through 3 sensations through tmobile, and even sent one to HTC to have it looked at. Phone has never been right for me.
Tmo has just issued me a replacement, it will be here monday, they are sending me an Amaze, not nearly the dev support for that phone, but at least i'll be able to have a running phone and able to make calls.

Combing two points is a dual cell. Which is one radio capable of dual channels. Other devices still get affected by the network. None of the other non lte or wimax devices improve non lte and wimax devices. Which are separate radios. Two radios slap together is still one radio.
I'm just wondering how at&t can put lte on one radio when a bigger company namely Verizon didn't do it either. T-Mobile is still using its aws frequency and at&t is using 850 and 1900 frequency. For its lte its using 700mhz. Just like Verizon.

From the Sensation preview vid I saw, dual core, Official Sense 3.0 and GB
Holiday.
Though that nexus could be interesting. I don't know how much I like the idea of the separate menu buttons being made software-based, though. 5mp camera, though they say its "advanced 5mp" is still 5mp. Resolution of images will still be that of a 5mp camera, no matter how "advanced" it is otherwise.
Samsung = FAIL. Never again.
I was going for the Sensation over the GSII because I hate the physical home button. But with all the U.S. carriers likely having their own slightly tweaked version, it very well could be without it . In this case, I'm going with the GSII (I like the extra ram it has vs. the Sensation). If AT&T's version looks like the current version that everyone has, I'm going with the Sensation (an unlocked one from Canada or something - for use with AT&T's bands).

Oh, me too. If the op question had been "which of these phones are you going to dump your inspire for and pay off contract," I'd have answered just as you did.
By the time my full upgrade comes around, there'll be some new bomb-ass HTC phone on ATT. But this time, I have a phone that will keep me going until that upgrade comes...
Unlike the circumstances that brought me to this inspire...
Blew my upgrade on a captivate 2 months before the inspire came out.
I got an upgrade available in December, the day after Christmas. I'm watching for the HTC Holiday.
EDIT: Paid off-contract price for this on Feb 27th. This phone will definitely hold me over til my upgrade, and then hello Holiday!

The Sensation is an okay phone.....just nothing special. I still prefer my rooted Vibrant that I handed off to my wife!
I would wait. Play with them all in the store, and choose the one you prefer or suits your needs.
I just upgraded from my HD2 to a sensation and I'm not regretting it at all. Got tired of waiting for the GS2 and Acer Iconiatab A100. By the time they come out something else awesome will be coming out. I also have faith that the full potential of this phone will be unlocked soon enough. I love the stock Rom too so I'm not hurting for that to happen right away anyways. Best phone I have owned. Awesome bettery life too!

Actually, in general Sensation has improved all the mentioned things compared to previous HTC phones. Soooo, just bad experience really, it's not common.
Sensation over HD2? Well, i came from Desire, and expected something out of this world, so got disappointed. The only MASSIVE improvement ove hd2 is the screen, the rest of it, well, an improvement but not the one to die for.

Definitely not. I will never buy a LCD screen phone again, simply because LCD screens are worthless in sunlight. I certainly appreciate the qHD resolution that the Sensation has, but as soon as phones start coming out with improved SAMOLED+ (meaning fixing some issues such as odd colors) screens that also have good resolution (qHD or up), I'll be looking to switch.

Smartphone unlimited most definitely does have access to the new network. All T-Mobile data plans have access to all network speeds. They just don't want to give the apn to continue using it and fed you that line of bull to force you onto an "android" plan. Try calling customer loyalty and getting this plan:

Had hd2 also, upgraded and its alright. You can definitely tell the smoothness of the sensation. But the HD2s screen was spectacular, the small bezel was amazing. It made the phone look so much bigger. The colors are better on the HD2 as well, the sensation has a red Hue.

Hi all
Just a quick question about the radio and flashing.
I understand that when a device is flashed to a custom ROM, that a radio is cooked in. (am I correct?)
Now my situation is this. I live in Australia, and am thinking of purchasing a 2nd hand Inspire 4G (AT&T) from the US, but from my research, due to the Inspire's (from AT&T) frequencies being 850/1900, this causes a small problem in Australia, where only telstra's NextG network operates on this band.
So in effect, I would be limited to NextG if I had this phone in Australia. the other major carrier here (optus) uses 900/2100.
Not a biggie right now as I use telstra nextg, but I may want to change.
So, question would be, when a phone is flashed, can I change the radio via the ROM, or is the frequencies a phone uses controlled by hardware?
thanks.
It's hardware mate.

now to decide if its worth it.....can get one pretty cheap compared to here in Australia.
Check out tmobile I don't recall the bands they use but they sell the desire HD which is the Inspire 4G for them.
Edit: http://www.htc.com/www/smartphones/htc-desire-hd/#specs
Looks like it is 900/2100
So now the question is, what provider will you stick to in Australia

Yeah its a tough decision ...I'm going to be moving soon to study, and where I'm going both carriers are good, but telstra is prob the dearest. Where I currently live needs telstra and I get a sim card through work (I use my own phone though)
So I basically need a 850 phone for 3 months then I can use whatever .......
I just bought one and I am on Telstra. I also have a desire hd. Inspire in my opinion is the best choice.
Inspire can still run on Optus. My missus uses it occasionally with no issues.

Anyone think its worth selling the sensation and paying a little bit more of money to "upgrade" to the amaze?
Other than the HSPA+, are there any other major differences?

Well its has more ram...the screen looks much better, better camera and no its not just the software its a better sensor and lens. The build feels nicer and it also has the dedicated camera, video buttons. And a larger battery .Is it enough for you to upgrade to...that's all up to you...if you want those extra features then yes.

Today I went to three tmobile store and two of them didn't had it yet but one on them did, the rep was playing with it, I asked him about it and he let me play with it and I honestly didn't any speed or anything. To me felt like a Sensation plus the camera buttons/lens. Speed wise felt just the same.

Checked it out at the Tmobile store today. I was thinking of giving my wife my Sensation and upgrading to it. While it is a nice looking phone, I was somewhat underwhelmed. Firstly, it could not get a data connection, despite showing 3 bars. My Sensation got a better connection. One of the mains reasons I wanted to upgrade was due to the faster network speeds and here I couldn't even test it out. The camera is nice and took fast pictures in the continuous mode. Still on the fence about it and I am not sure what kind of development it will get and how long it will take to get root.

I'd say that you might want to wait at least 1 month before buying it.
Prime will most likely be out by then and Galaxy S2 as well, So you will have 3 phones to compare and decide.

I don't think there is nearly as much development for the Amaze. But check out their forums. See what they've got going on.
Remember, the guy who has the Amaze would rather have your Sensation instead.
The amaze has the extra 256mb of RAM, which is definitely better than having a swap partition or another solution for extra ram. Imo thats about it, and there isn't much development, but last I checjed there was a sense 4 rom

If you like flashing custom Roms and a great community, stick with the Sensation. The Amaze community on XDA leaves much to be desired. I had an Amaze for a bit, and every thread was constantly being locked by admins.
If you r gonna stick with stock Rom and not much playing, the Amaze is a good phone.

I'd do it. NFC, extra RAM, better processor. But yeah, less ROMs
