What to expect from TF700 stock video player? - Asus Transformer TF700

Chances are most of the 720P video files comes with A52 Audio track.
Surprise !
It will not play as is, using the stock video player.

where do you have the video stored? memory card or device? i had a few movies stored on my 64gb card, and when i tried to play them, with any video player, i got that message. so i transferred the same movies to a usb thumb drive, plugged it into the keyboard, and they played fine. im not sure what the issue is. but i do have some movies, that were converted specifically for my xoom, that play just fine from the memory card.

From my playing the stock video player is crap. I've had no real success playing anything unless I specifically reencode for it. Even stuff that worked on the OG transformer stock player fails on this one. That said, BS player works quite well as long as you are playing the videos locally.
I've had very little luck streaming from UPNP server in my house due to poor wifi streaming rate.

The BS player is by far the best.

edit: a little buggy. i skipped to a specific spot in a movie, and it just froze for and didnt play. do i need to install one of the codecs?
MXVideo Player played the movie with no issues.

it plays all the formats it claims to? wow.. you haven't had any issues with it at all?
It works really well, .mkv files play choppy, but any of the .mkv files I converted to mp4 play great. Divx rips play really well, they often look clearer on the small screen than on my monitor!
Been using it for weeks. Plays the most formats I've ever seen of any android player. Best part... Its free!!! Wish I could find a stand alone player for .swf format movies.
Now they want 10 bucks for it!!! Not worth it. But you can still use it. NAGWARE
ROCKPLAYER plays all avi files....
Its all I need )
doesnt work with hdmi out
If its not in the market I won't buy it.
never tried it yet, might in a bit though...

It now is and is out of beta
Sent from my PC36100 using Tapatalk
beta version gave me a bad humming buzzing sound when it got quiet in all my .avi files hopefully they fixed it..
that's weird.. i haven't heard any humming sound, although avi audio and video lags. i don't know why.
oh and i tried an mp4 720p video on it, such lag... i'm not sure how i feel about it. it's an otherwise good player.
Yeah, I downloaded the new release today, they changed it to ad/support or pay if you don't want to see ads.
Videos I had encoded into mp4 that played pretty well before, and flawlessly through the phone's video player, now are laggy, especially when you skip through the video.
mkv's still lag, avi/divx still plays well.
I hope they fix all this soon.
I've been using it since it was leaked awhile back, love it.

I don't have any except for when seeking through the files or playing after pause. For a few short seconds audio is choppy or there is none. Also so far I can't get subs to work. Oh and I forgot about HD, well you can fahget about it. 720p vids of bleach, in mpg format, that also seem to have low bitrates since its only 300 plus mbs didn't work. That was with the beta though for the latter.
It only supports .srt UTF-8 subtitles currently.
The application definitely needs some polish. It can't play most HD files yet, and needs more support for other subtitle formats and audio types, but it's the most capable player on Android. One of the only ones that'll play divx files flawlessly.
I love it used the beta for ever but yes it is out of beta and on the market get it while you can
One thing I like about rockplayer that I haven't seen posted anywhere is that it plays flv's. I have ton of those(I had a love affair with youtubedownloader for a while!)
How do I associate it with video files to make it the default video player?
Should I be able to open a file on my LAN via the wireless network in ESTRong explorer and play it?

[Q] Possible to play avi videos?

Is it possible to play .avi videos on Transformer? I have tried to play videos on MicroSD but have been unsuccessful.

Moboplayer, free from the Market, does a nice job.
Rockplayer seems to work, thanks!
AVI, the container, is fine and Android should have no trouble with. But, there's also the codecs that the video data is encoded in, as well as the codecs for the audio data.
Those may or may not be supported, especially if they're older files using some ancient and crappy codec.
Edit: Bah, OP responded as I was writing this
I know this is an old thread but hopefully someone can still be patient and help me out.
I just recently got the TF101. I think it's the plan TF101, not the "G" version. I got it through a Groupon deal so it didn't have a lot of technical details.
I'm brand new to Android and I want to watch AVI files on the Transformer using a microSD card. I've downloaded a bunch of the usual suspects (MoboPlayer, BSPlayer, Rockpayer, VPlayer) and so far I like MX Player and Dice Player the best.
Here's the problem:
I've formatted the microSD on my iMac as FAT32 and added tv show folders. **Only SOME of the avi files play without any "read" errors** I know avi's can have all sorts of codecs but for my collection of Friends tv show I personally ripped all the episodes from a dvd set using Handbrake and used the same setting for all the videos. So why are some working flawlessly and other videos can't play at all?
Is there something that I'm missing that I need to do to make all my avi's compatible? Do I need to download something else aside from the ARM codecs req by each app? Is it because I'm using a non-brand microSD?
All help is appreciated... Thanks!

mobo player seems the best for functionality and .mkv files. Rock player for .avi. (My experience so far)
i had a lot of problems with mobo when i tried to hdmi mirror the only one that seems to work for me was Vplayer.... ya i know it's 5 dollars but atleast it works really work... and ya 1080 mkv's work fine
With Mobo player I have problems getting sound. (IE the movie playes stutter free, but i get no sound at all.)
With vplayer, rockplayer, and a few other I've tried, I get this horrible stuttering /slow fps in the playback.
I'm running a stock rom, not rooted with all OTA updates.
Honestly, your best bet is to transcode/re-encode your videos to mp4 format.
That's the reason I might switch to the Galaxy Tab when it comes out.
Re-encoding is a pain in the ass.
I wish there was something that works well for all the formats, a VLC or something would be awesomeness.

Galaxy Tab has the same engine under the hood, so it will have the same problems. You might have to wait until Tegra 3 for this to be fully fleshed out.

Samsung frequently add support for MKV and AVI containers into their android phones. But that is _just_ the container support it doesn't magically give the Tegra2 enough grunt to play high bitrate high profile blue ray rips.
Also note that the TF can already parse MKV containers (otherwise it wouldn't be able to play WebM) it just doesn't have the ".mkv" file extension plumbbed into the gallery or the default player. I've found that as long as the video and audio streams are playable then simply renaming the file so that there is ".mp4" on the end (without transcoding nor changing container) is enough to make mkv's play in the default player

I'll bet that's high/main profile h.264 video with AC3 audio. That will never play without at least transcoding the audio track. You either get hardware acceleration (and the hardware can't play the audio track) or pure software decode (and the CPU can't keep up with the video)

[Q] Best video player for Transformer

Hi,
I've been using trial version of Dice Player and I'm almost ready to purchase the full version. However, I just noticed 3 other players that might worth considering:
- MX Player
- PowerDVD Mobile
- VLC (free)
- Seaman Player
I'd like to take comments from people who are using these. Which one should I go for ?
I personally use Dice Player. Plays everything smoothly.
MX Player: good alternative for free, but doesn't play some 720p MKVs with crisp frames.
VLC: Very early stage, not daily-use.
Rest... I haven't tried them.

I can't make up my mind what I like best, Dice Player or MX Video Player so I paid for both apps. The developers of each seem to be going head to head on what they can and cannot do. Both do HW playback which is what I like most about them. You wont be disappointed with Dice Player the least bit. They both seem to be the two best video players to date for Android.
thanks for your comments.
is there any experience with PowerDVD ?
that's a nice app on Windows. So why not the Android version...

Well for one thing, PowerDVD Mobile is $20 and Dice Player and MX player are just over $5 and can play just about every video file type. So you weigh the odds. With Tegra 2 video is barely starting to break free of it's constraints so I wouldn't want to pay out the nose for a video player that might or might not play back my videos. IDK, that's just how I feel about it.
If you do wind up getting PowerDVD let us know how well it plays HW and SW video playback with multiple file types. I was reading and I didn't find if it will play .mkv files or not.
Personally, I would normally talk up Diceplayer, but after the last couple of updates, we've taken about 5 steps backwards. Whatever happened, it's gotten worse than it was before. I'm not sure what that's due to, but 720P videos no longer play as smoothly as they once did. Videos that used to play fine are now choppy and have bad audio. And these are the same videos, the only change is what version the player is running. I'd actually go back a few versions if I had made a backup of some kind.
Either way, I don't generally recommend Diceplayer anymore. I used to talk it up and down because it WAS a very good player, but things have certainly changed alot apparently.

Yep very true. I have had the exact same findings. I've been talking to the developer and just sent him a 720p mkv today that used to work and now doesn't. He's testing it on his transformer to see if he can find the issue.
Power DVD is too expensive. Mobo is so far the best
Hopefully DICE player can fix it's recent bugs (he has been issuing updates like crazy anyway).
MX has mich better gui, but dice player still has much better playback. There is noticeable difference in frame drops between the two (dice being much, much better, even though both use hardware decoding).
i use vplayer and it does all videos and even allows streaming
Dice Player with tegra addon . Nothing to me is smoother.

Hi,
I've tried PowerDVD mobile.
It has a very elegant GUI and nice features.
It serves music and photos in addition to videos and it also includes a DLNA player.
However, videos are not as smooth as MX Player or Dice Player.
Probably it does not support as much codecs.
bs player
i just found BS player for android its in beta right now but it works great
I wish I could get DICE player to work. Everytime I open it, it says "Sorry, this video cannot be played." I haven't even picked a video yet!
Having endless issues trying to play 720p mkv videos I have dice player, mobo player, and mx video player. When the video is smooth i get no sound and when sound works the video gets choppy during action/ fast scenes... any advice?

I can't seem to get HW decoding to work with MX player. Is anyone using any custom kernels .. overclocking?
MX Video for me
i started with Mobo since the stock player only reads internal files. but i wanted full screen with no icons on the bottom. i tried dice trial and liked it so i bought the full version than i saw mx video and bought it too. i like both, but dice player on lets me choose (ie: /Removable/MicroSD don't even try microsd).
whereas mx video lets me add several locations that i can browse too and i get full screen. i haven't had any problems with any video incls so far.
i just wish i could connect a protable dvd player.
i also like the easy way it handles subtitles and .vob

Mkv files, no sound?

I got my tf300 yesterday and it great except for one thing. I get no sound when i play my mkv 720 movies or series? I have tried both streaming and local. Tried diceplayer, the built in player and moboplayer without success. MX player worked when i turned of h/w and used s/w instead but then the movies "lagged". Cant get it to work, Anyone have a clue what i can do to make it work?

MX will play them via HW but you need to click the sound key next to the HW/SW button and select the other audio track. Worked for me.

I have had good results using BS player lite. And it is cool because you can change brightness by swiping up and down in the left side of the screen and change volume the same way on the right

DO NOT DOWNLOAD VLC PLAYER FOR ANDROID!
VLC is still in development, and apks have not been released. If you find a VLC apk, it is not real or it is based on very early, probably buggy code. One person that mentioned having it said that s/he had very intrusive ads. Judging by all other VLC releases on every other platform, the real VLC for Android will not have ads, or at least not obnoxious, intrusive ads.
Diceplayer plays 1080p nicely, as long as you don't got dual audio.
Glad to hear MX player can handle different audiostreams! Now i can get my anime on!
I'll guess i will use MX or bsplayer then. I just find it a bit odd that the same files plays with no problem on my galaxy S2 with dice player..

SOLUTION!!!!
Absolute EASIEST SOLUTION!!!!!
Im running serviio from my pc and typically steam to my samsung tv's
But the easiest solution to stream directly to my s3 (i747 aokp task650)
Is:
Download and install these two apps
1.Bubble upnp https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.bubblesoft.android.bubbleupnp
2. Joe VLC https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=the.joevlc
Ive used mx and bs in the past, but this solution is just too easy and fast...
P. S. Ive streamed everything from small avi family guy episodes to 15gb mkv bluray files and this setup is boss..
Only issues i found was minute pixelation when in full screen mode on large files 12gb+ and some buffering when i jump around in said video but other than that its awesome.....
Enabling hw decoding in JoeVlc app takes care of any pixel issues but eats battery...
Happy streaming!
got it
yo
just do to ( in the MX player) Settting -> Decoder--> download custom codec
than u will be direct to a website .. just follow the instraction
worked perfect for me..
thank u it works good
VLC media player has been officialy released some time ago works great with .mkv
