You act suprised about the recovery/cyanogenmod splash screen...did you not flash cm9?
And I'm 99.99% sure your not doing it right...I've never heard of a phone going to recovery when trying download mode...I've heard of them just not going and/or bootlooping-but I've never heard of it going in to recovery...can you please list the exact steps you took to enter download mode?
They should be this:
Remove battery
Put battery back in
Hold volume up+down
Plug USB in while holding volume keys
-please note, I wasn't trying to be rude above...just stating I've never heard of what's happening to you happen before...and anything is possible to some extent...so it is possible that your just having some freak problems...

My ICS favorites are RemICS-UX & AOKPCB. both run perfectly smooth, just choose the one you prefer
However, if you're up to it, you may want to try the unofficial CM10 (Jellybean 4.1.1 goodness!).
Im from Puerto Rico, so if you if you have any doubts send me a PM in spanish

Strange icon on my Startup Infuse 4G

I think i BRICKD it.....
I was performing a Restore to STOCK using Odin 3 v 1.7 and the GTG's UNBRK files from here.
The process failed while the phone was in Download mode.
Now all I get is
An icon which looks like
A Cell Phone ........Exclamation Mark (in orange).......... Computer
The phone is not responding to any of the buttons:
1. No power down... I have to remove the battery and then no matter what I do, power on or else, it shows the same icon
Any one else been here?
Any way to FIX this or am I SOL?
I believe this is in the wrong forum but I understand your panic. Don't take my word for this but I believe you need a USB jig to get out of this. Or unless try this:
1. Pull battery for 15-20 seconds
2. Re insert battery
3. Hold volume up/volume down while plugging in USB cord from computer
4. If it succeeds you should be in download mode!
P.s. Sorry if you have already done this, i'm just attempting to help you troubleshoot

Thank you for the suggestion. Yes, that is the exact thing I am seeing and No, that Vol Up + USB insert still gives the same icon.
What is a USB jig? and where do I get it?
Many thanx and sorry for posting it in the wrong forum... perhaps, admin can move to the right one.... yes, it was panic.

Uhh, I haven't gotten stuck on that on my Infuse I don't think, but with the Captivate the solution was to hold vol + and - and power at that screen until it rebooted, then let go of power and it would fall back to download mode.
And yes, this is not development and should be in the general section.

EDIT: Did you hold BOTH volume up and down as you plugged in the usb?
USB Jig
http://www.amazon.com/gp/offer-listing/B0053H73JQ/ref=dp_olp_0?ie=UTF8&redirect=true&condition=all
It's been reported here in the forums that IT DOES work. You might want to search around to confirm that. Or, if you want quick help you can possibly explain more of what you did to get your phone to this point.

i made at the job not to long ago....took me a while to get the right resistance, but it got it into download mode.

Yes, I meant to write Holding BOTH Vol+ and - and USB insert.
Here are the steps that I got me here... one step is completely stupid....
1. Yesterday, I was trying to get 3e recovery, so got the zip file
2. MISSED this step - of Copying the recovery file to SD Card.
3. Renamed the old recovery in the bin folder to _old
4. Rebooted and then used the ROM Manager to reboot into Recovery.... Bad idea - The phone went blank....
5. Only solution I saw was to ODIN in the GTG's Ultimate unbrick.....
6. Went into Download Mode....
7. ODIN sees the COM Port.
8. Loaded the .pit and other files per instructions....
9. Pressed START
10. ODIN reports failed.
11. Unhooked the USB and HARD rebooted.... Arrived at this icon.
Yes, i am a noob and am paying for my mistake of overlooking a step.
You could possibly try heimdall... do you have kies installed (only needed for drivers)? Hmm, I couldn't help you any further w/o actually being there
Definitely keep me posted!
I have bricked my phone a few times now . Same error screen and everything, just do the vol + and vol - down trick , let it boot to the error screen and startup odin 1.8 or higher. That part is very important. Odin 1.8 will recognize it as a serial device and write the software . Good luck!
I've been in that icon, but I just tried back with Odin gtg's unbrick and it went through perfectly as always. I got there because I forgot to select the pit file and Odin started to download and it failed.
I think that symbol is the same download mode but in this case you must use Odin because the phone can't startup itself. Just don't panic if it worked for me then it would work for you.

weird because I have used odin 1.7 with success each time..
Oh yeah, that error screen is a download mode isn't it? I forgot about that. So just use unbrick from there or flash something else you want.

Yeah, that error screen is download mode, just like the usual "Construction Android" screen, with one difference:
The phone is forcing download mode because it knows it's hosed up. It's saying "flash something with Odin or you're not going anywhere".
So you're already in download mode - no need for button combos, the phone realized you needed it and went straight there for you.
BTW this doesn't belong in Development.

Those symbols only mean that it did not finish the last operation/flashing
Its the same as download mode.
So go back into those "Cell Phone ........Exclamation Mark (in orange).......... Computer"
Which is download mode and start a new flash of the Ultimate Unbrick.
Good luck, be sure to to put PIT to PIT PDA to PDA and PHONE to PHONE
in odin!!!
GOOD NEWS.
That was simple... Followed the suggestions from Nopcodex90 , Mrjunky and all....
Just started ODIN, loaded the PIT, PDA and PHONE files and off it went and am back alive........
You all are so helpful... Thank you all..... I learnt valuable lessons today.....

Take out the battery, put battery back in, hold both volume buttons, continue holding and plug in usb. You should be in download mode, now retry odin with GTG ultimate unbrick.
This phone is never really bricked, ive flashed a wrong bootloader using heimdall and nothing would turn on and i was still able to odin back to stock.

Help with returning to Stock ATT 2.3.5 please

I have searched and not found a clear answer...
I read the guide in this noob thread on returning to stock.
1) The drivers link is bad, can I use the same drivers that I used in rooting? I used the T-Mobile_t989_GSII_ADB_Drivers.zip from http://www.addictivetips.com/mobile/how-to-root-att-galaxy-s-ii-skyrocket-with-superoneclick/
2) when I do the following:
Take out and put back in the battery.
Then, hold Vol + and Vol - , now plug in USB and you will at the following sreen that’s in picture.
Press Volume Up button now.
I get an Anroid recovery mode, is that the same as download mode?
3) after all is done and said with flashing back to the stock ROM with ODIN, will the counter be tripped? Will I have to install CWM and the the counter reset .tar?
If I do have to install CWM and reset the counter, will having CWM affect any future OTA installs?
Thanks for the help

I wound up finding ODIN 1.85. I have also installed Kies.
Will both flash the Sammobile i727USA (AT&T) (I727UCKJ2_I727ATTKJ2_ATT) ROM? Which is best/safest? If Kies, how? I have seen plenty of tutorials on ODIN but none on Kies...

Make sure before you push the start button in odin that the phone finishes installing drivers and it is recognized by odin in the com port
Umm holding both buttons for the volume while rebooting makes it goto CWM, you have to hold the volume - only for download mode and then you get a prompt to press the volume + key depending on if you have the i727 or the i727R.

Twisted stomach for a while I will admit. Happened with my first flash of a SMT-5600 back in the winmo days up til now.
Is funny how even Android phones are drastically different. My old Streak took ROMs like a champ no matter what you had previously done.
I guess I need to quick effing with my phone and dumping bloatware before I read up on it...
thnx silver! Will keep in mind!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

When you say on, off, on, off. Do you mean the lights flash then it goes off or does it try to boot?
Can you get into download mode?
Have you tried a different battery or left the battery out for an hour or so, then tried again?

First you need to download Heimdall or Odin from the ISET page to you PC. I believe Odin uses the Kies drivers and Heimdall replaces the with a Samsung composite driver. I personally use the Heimdall back to stock that is rooted.
Once you have them and decide which one you will use, you will need to get into download mode. Take the battery out, connect USB to phone and preferably a rear USB port on your PC. Hold volume up and down, No Power button though, and then insert the battery. This should put you in download mode and you need to push volume up to get to it. Volume down cancels it and will reboot. You may want to just try that one time to see if it corrects the problem. If not, repeat steps to get to download and flash either Odin to Heimdall and then start flashing again.
Read the instructions on the OP of Odin or Heimdall and ask questions if you aren't sure of what to do.

Wait, did you install a CM9 ROM on top of an existing, different CM9 ROM without wiping? If so, you're done. JTAG or warranty.
Are you 100% sure you can't get to download mode?
Is the phone boot looping at the Samsung logo?
If so... try to time holding the VOL + and VOL - while the phone is fully off.
You may have to turn the phone off (and back on) while holding VOL+ and VOL- to "extra confirm" the phone is seeing VOL+ and VOL- being held down on first boot.
Just remove the holding the power after you have confirmed this to prevent phone from just turning on/off constantly.
I had this happen to me with my Infuse after getting rainbow color recovery.
It might sound little tricky but (it's easy) I was able to get download mode by timing it right as I explained above.
Let us know if this helps.
We need more details I think

If you can't get anything to turn on at all, yeah, you're hard bricked. JTAG or warranty it out.
In the future, and I know you were told by prbassplayer to do this in another thread, use Google Translate and read everything before flashing. I'm absolutely certain that your phone was bricked by user error, and that's so easy to avoid. Read the stickies, read the ROM thread, follow instructions to the letter. 99.9% of the time, you will not brick if you do those three things.
That sucks bro your lucky JTAG is only 50 bucks

You're getting that because you didn't clear data and the permissions are wrong. Get into recovery, wipe data, flash again with odin.
To get into recovery:
Press volume up + power together until phone vibrates. Release the power button while continuing to hold the volume up until recovery comes up.
Edit-----
I had that happen with the Kies update. I fixed it by reflashing. I also suggest you get a USB jig for easy download mode.
