I have a problem. My wife uses screebl on her NS4G and for some reason it's not working now. What screebl does is it detects if the device is laying flat or being held vertically.
I used a sensor monitor app to see what's up. It appears the gyroscope isn't working. The compass isn't working either but I think that is cause of the gyro.
What's funny is it still goes from portrait / landscape modes ok.
Any ideas on what I can do to fix this?
She is running BLACK ICE 40.5 matrix kernel.
Ok. I did a full wipe and everything is working again. Don't know what happened but it's fixed now.

Last night I tried the star chart app for the first time in a while, and I noticed it wouldn't rotate and wouldn't show where I was looking.
Does anyone else have problems with their orientation sensor (specifically the compass?) if you haven't tried, download Androsensor quick, it's 200K and see if Y moves more than about 20 degrees. It should, but it doesn't for me. It's stuck. Is this something I can return it for? I really need a few of the apps that use the compass...
And to verify it, if you want, you can download GPS Test which has a compass and it should not rotate much if at all.
Mines working properly on CM7, what software are you running? I had issues like that on my last phone running certain roms.

What do you mean the compass should not rotate in GPS Test? Do you mean if it's just sitting there on a counter or are you saying yours doesn't move when you hold it and spin to N, E, S, and W? The compass in my GPS Test goes to 0, 90, 180, and 270 respectively. I'm on the UCKJ4 GB leak that was posted yesterday.
I use Screeble all the time. And every once and a while i notice that it stops working. Reinstalled it... no help. Then i installed an app that shows the readings of the sensors. That showed the sensors are not working for some reason. In the past i would just restore from a backup but this time it didnt work. Anyone else have this problem?

Sent from my ICS NexusS4G.
Do your photos rotate when you turn the phone sideways? If they do its not the sensors.
I have had issues with both my G-Sensor & volume of quite a while. Rebooting my TF always fixed the problem. Again last night it happened when I tried play Asphalt 7 I couldn't steer the car. Rebooted & everything was fine. This afternoon it appears that rebooting no longer works & with screen rotation on my screen will not rotate either. I wipe my tablet & that didn't do anything. It looks like to be the G-sensor is hosed.
I running stock ICS but my TF is root. Any thoughts?
Did you try other apps/games that use it? Do they have the same issues? Maybe it's a game update gone bad?

Its not the games. My screen will not even rotate. GPS status uses the G-Sensor for the compass & it does nothing. Like I said, I wiped it back to factory & that had no effect. Now as I am writhing this it miraculously started working again which has me scared. so now I am really baffled.
Hi all, I just noticed that my auto rotate isn't working anymore. I was using a custom rom, but reverted back to stock just to make sure everything would be alright, but it still isn't working on my stock rom. I downloaded "Phone Tester" from the app store, and when I check to see if it's working, it says that my device has no accelerator, compass, light sensor, etc...
What's going on here? It was working fine a couple of days ago.
Edit, when I go to the Phone Tester app, it says that I don't have:
- Accelerometer
- Compass
- Magnetic Field Sensor
- Proximity Sensor
- Light Sensor
- Gyroscope
- Pressure Sensor
- Humidity Sensor

Having your same issue. It worked once when I flashed a new rom but then I rebooted and it stopped working. I went back to stock but that didn't help either.

If you flashed the factory image and it's still not working then it's most likely a hardware issue.
I remember soon after the N5 was launched there was a barometer app that was crashing all of the sensors. Maybe this is still an issue?

I have barometer installed and working since day 1 I bought the phone.. I would assume the OP problem is an isolated issue that somehow crashed all the sensors.
Most possibility is factory hardware defect.. or .. somehow the phone was at affected by strong magnatic/radiation field area that caused those sensors broken.
Having the same issue.
So I figured something out today. I flashed the stock image for 4.4, (not 4.4.2 like i had previously), and everything works perfectly fine! Now if I take the OTA for 4.4.2 it stops working once again. So now I have no idea what to do lol since I know its not necessarily a hardware issue but more of a software issue. Another thing is while on 4.4.2 if I open GPS Status & Toolbox app to check the GPS or sensors the phone soft reboots but the app never opens.
This is definitively a software issue somewhere. Its been working perfectly fine all day on stock 4.4
I will try and see if I can find what's changing or getting updated when you do the update to 4.4.2.
Hello,
i have issues with the Display Rotation.
The Accelerometer don´t work anymore at my phone. Last Week i was wondering that the Display won´t rotate at the Album. Then i checked the Display Settings. Auto Rotate was checked.
at the Service Menu *#*#7378423#*#* the Accelerometer don´t respond. But the Gyroscope work fine.
At this Time i have installed the Concept Software from Sony. Today i´m back home from Holiday i go back to offical Stock Software. But it won´t work also.
Smartrotate on or off are the same...
The last idea is to repair the Software with the PC Companion. Is there an option to calibrate the Accelerometer?
I have the same issues with my D6653 - auto rotation doesn't work (but very rarely it does come back). In service menu the Accelerometer doesn't respond, as well as Proximity switch is off and doesn't work on calls.
This is not a rom-specific problem as I've tried to revert back to stock firmware but alas no changes. It must be some miscommunication between hardware and software.
Any ideas what to do? Can it be related to kernel?
yesterday i've had the same problem i needed to wipe to have the accelerometer back to work
Hi all rather than opening a new thread I am upping this one
On my D6603 screen rotation is very erratic and often not working.
Any idea what I can investigate?
I wander if it could be app/service related of hardware deficiency.
Thanks!
Any luck with this?
I am currently using an EM95X Android Box with a Viewsonic touch screen. The touch screen has been working perfect with the box. My issue is with the rotation ability. Anytime I force the screen into portrait mode the system UI crashes. Unfortunately, I need the monitor view to be vertical. I cannot figure out how to stop it from crashing. I have tried several rotation apps with the same results.
I have went into the build prop to view the rotation texts and the only thing I have found is this:
"Persist.sys.app.rotation=middle_port"
I thought I might be able to find somewhere I can change the rotation, but I have not.
Any suggestions?
