Hanging on the Samsung screen is normal when coming to AOKP from Gingerbread, you need to double flash here's how:
Flash the ROM like normal in CWM, when it reboots and you hang at the Samsung screen use the 3 finger method to get into Recovery (hold power & both Volume buttons). Once there go the Mounts and Storage option and format system, data, and cache...then reflash the ROM again (you may also have to flash the latest gapps if your not using an Aroma installer) reboot and you should be gtg.
it doesn't hang for me

brother did you read the op....but just like Smokestack360 posted....try to read his directions....attention to detail...and you will be GTG!
I don't mean to be an [email protected]@ and I apologize if I do...but this is your investment, your phone....I personally read and re-read...and sometimes get my wife to read it...btw she hates that...LOL,
How to Install - Coming from NON ICS Rom
Download Rom and latest Google Apps and enter recovery
Wipe/Factory Reset
Flash rom zip file
Reboot...will hang on kernel splash screen
Use three-button method to enter recovery mode
Go to mounts and storage and format system, data, and cache
Reflash rom
Flash Gapps
Reboot

Use Odin or Heimdall to get cwm recovery then follow the steps in the above posts. I think u might even b able to get cwm recovery via the ROM manager app but think that it isn't the recommended method.
When coming from GB, u have to flash twice. That's why u were stuck at the Samsung logo before.
All ics ROMs are flashed the same way so read through the first posts of dev threads. Although the instructions will b the same as provided above.
Edit: And don't try to use a different kernel right off the bat. The one provided with the ROM is usually provided bc it works best.

For Recovery I can use Entropy Daily Driver, But that wont work for MIUI. SO where I can a Kernel which contains CWM for MIUI.

If u look in the "ISET Infuse everything" thread that's stickied in the dev section, there is Odin or Heimdall one click which both will give u cwm recovery.
I'm not familiar with entrophy's daily driver but I thought it was just a GB kernel, which is why it wouldn't work with that miui version bc it is ics.
Edit: I know most (and I believe all) ROMs will have a kernel packaged with them so u can just flash the ROM to get a working kernel. But bc it coming from GB, u need to follow the instructions provided above and flash twice. The reason I am saying use Odin is bc u said u have 3e recovery and I believe that u need to get cwm recovery first. I may b wrong about that tho.

Read post #4 and #6. That tells you how to flash a cm9 rom. I suggest, based only on my experience, flashing Entropy512's cm 9 build. Again, follow the instructions in post 4 and / or 6. I would not flash the current version of miui 4 as a new build will soon be posted. The instructions for flashing miui are in the OP.

Have a friend with the kk4 rom which is 2.3.5 . He wants cm7 but the instructions are vague, when he loads up rom manager it doesn't show captivate mtd but only shows the regular galaxy s i900 . What should I do from here ?
ROM manager really needs to die a horrible death and be erased from public memory.
Flash a custom kk4 kernel with Odin that has cwm built into it. Then flash cm7 from there.
No need to even root the damn thing let alone (attempt to) use crappy ROM manager that doesn't work on galaxy devices running over Android 2.1

You may need to flash CM7 twice - A lot of times, the first flash just sets up the MTD file scenario, giving you the CWM you need. The second flash should finish installing it.
Yank battery and replace...hold Vol up Vol down and power til you see the boot screen and let go.
The button combos should work.
got it to work now just trying to load the gapps which seems to not be installing and for some reason it won't recognize the gapps arg this is the weirdest thing.
Just to clarify, if I'm on stock KK4 I can just flash a KK4 ROM with CWM and then CM7? I don't need to be on Froyo, as the CM wiki says?

What is the filename of the zip you are trying to install for gapps?
When you say it isn't installing, does it say it completed and nothing happens, or is it failing? If it's failing, does it give you an error?

Forgive me if you already know this, but it only installs apps that can't be downloaded from the market. If you have the market, it worked and you just have to download the rest of them. If you don't have the market, it definitely didn't work and, short of flashing back to stock and trying again, I don't have any other suggestions to troubleshoot it, unfortunately.

You can't update to cm9 and stay on 5.0.
Unlike most samsung phones, we do not have a functional recovery partition.
Even though we do have a recovery partition, and you can flash the recovery.img there, the bootloader will not even notice it.
It will just boot the kernel with the kernel command line argument: bootmode=2
In this mode, a stage1 init has to check if we are booting to: recovery, low power mode (charging), or normal boot (possibly with ota upgrade).
So in a nut shell, you upgrade to cm9, you get whatever recovery comes with cm9.
If you want to flash another cm9/ics based rom after that, just flash it (factory reset/wipe data, of course!). No need to go back to 5.0 recovery.
If however, your IMEI is screwed up or you have a specific reason to go back to gingerbread, use the oneclick that eollie mentioned. Flash it twice to get bootloaders. And then you can go back to cm9 by just 'factory reset/wipe data' and flash cm9 or whatever ics rom you wish.

just to get things straight so i don't mess up again, i have to flash froyo with ics (is there a specific ics version i should get? on a how to guide on flashing jb i found this info: Entropy512's CM9 Kernel / Blue CWM Recovery 2012.05.02-ODIN-Entropy-CM9-zImage.rar) can i use this one, i prefer odin b/c i've never used heimdall. then after i flash ics then i can flash to jb.... but reading some threads i saw that....
"Currently on stock Froyo:
1) Use Heimdall or Odin to flash stock UCLB3 (GB)
*Reccomendation: Also flash GB bootloaders. See first post for links and warnings.*
2) Flash Entropy's DD kernel to obtain root and red CWM recovery.
Currently on stock GB:

do i have to do this step or can i go forward with the current Stock_Root-Mod3e-UCKD5_Odin that i now have installed....?
secondly, after i install ics, right before i flash jb it states i have to do an aroma prep....then flash jb.....
all flashes are done with clockworkmod and i wipe only cache and dalvik? or is there anything else i have to wipe?
sorry for all the questions, i have read and researched many threads but they are all pretty overwhelmingly full of lots of info.....just wanna get it in order....
thanks again

Follow all steps, don't skip a thing. As for wiping, wipe Cache, Data, Dalvik, and format /System when going from GB to ICS and ICS to JB. That UCLB3 file is Gingerbread stock and you have to go to gingerbread before you go to ICS.
Also, if you are confident that your phone won't get disconnected from Odin while flashing the UCLB3 file, flash the GB bootloaders while you're at it. If the flash fails while flashing bootloaders then your device is bricked so be sure about Odin before you flash them.

Since you have already used Odin, I would use option "C". The best thing you can do is read everything two or three times. There are also many vids on YouTube that are helpful.
Once you are on GB.....just pick out any ICS ROM an flash it. Once it installs, I wouldn't even bother sitting it up and then you can go to JB.
Th3Bill uses an Aroma installer in his ROMs and the first time you use it, you will have to flash his aroma-prep first.
Hang in there....go slowly...and read. This gets easier and easier the more you do it. I always just d/l the zips to my phone and never even have to mess with the PC.

btw, am i supposed to flash ics twice?? that's what the [GUIDE] How To Flash JB says,
"9. Flash ICS Rom, then ICS Gapps"
but when i tried to flash ics a second time i couldn't (because of rainbow screen, and because it didn't show up in my directory....and where does ICS Gapps show up?
thanks again
If you downloaded the bootloaders linked in the guide, then yes, they go on the pda slot. You only have to flash once.
Heimdall-one click is the one you must flash once before it allows you to flash the bootloaders too.
Edit: to fully install ics you must flash twice, because I believe that what it does when coming from GB is that it just flashes the ics kernel on the first flash, requiring you to run it a second time after rebooting for it to install the complete rom.
Ics gapps are often linked in the rom OPs, although you don't need to flash them if you are headed to JB.

Shawn what I meant is that heimdall one-click wont allow you to flash bootloaders the 1st time, so you must run it once and then a 2nd time but with "flash bootloaders" ticked on.
There's no need to use heimdall before flashing them with Odin.

Also, when installing jb in the initial setup it asked which would be the defualt location to save I think I chose the sdcard instead of the emmc directory. ..can I change that setting?
I'm pretty sure you can change the setting, but not sure how. Also, your APNs might be messed up. There's a thread with working APNs. One sec and I'll link it.

Hi
1. Please update your thread topic, no one will help an empty topicless [Q].
2. Go here and follow instructions. This will bring you to Gingerbread (with GB bootloaders) and from there it will be very easy to upgrade.
3. Once you have a rooted GB ROM with CWM recovery 3 and above, you will be able to flash an MTD ICS ROM such as CM9/MIUI/Ultragen and then JB...
already tried that

bro i already tried that......upgraded with kies mini and kies said upgrade is successful but it did not go beyond boot screen
If you used kies mini you did not try that at all.
uninstall all Samsung drivers and actually try that.

the link you provided said first upgrade from stock froyo to stoc gb, then onwards....i did so......everything went fine but didnt boot
I think if you have the kies drivers installed you should try using gremlin remover.

No. You need to read better. The link I sent allows you to upgrade to GB without kies and then further on. Now what you can do is uninstall kies and any other Samsung driver from PC, switch USB port and use heimdall to flash to rooted GB. From there zip flash ICS and then JB...
If you say you don't have boot you probably don't have bootloaders. Please follow instructions and read them well.

You might be getting confused. Please go back to the link provided by itzik2sh and study the guide on using Heimdall. It's fairly lengthy but completely accurate. It will show you how to use Heimdall to get to stock GB, how to use Heimdall to root your phone by flashing AntonX's kernel, how to flash the necessary bootloaders, and even how to get your device into download mode. It's pretty much foolproof...and it works...please do your homework...we will be grading you.

bro i did all heimdall one clicks...stock kj6, stock+root, stock kf1..,,but nothing happened........the only thing worked is i downloaded this starter pack http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1223765 and installed both but nothing happened...then again i flashed first which is kc1 with pit file then i flashed stock froyo rom downloaded from sammobile.....it boots up but suddenly freezes after 20 or so seconds......i erased to factory but the result was same.......then i flashed bali 3.03 kernel and booted to cwm recovery and tried to flash icbinb.....as required i flashed ext4 converter then immediately as i try to flash icbinb....recovery freezes randomly.....and i m unable to complete process.......may be it has some hardware issue
One final thought...looks like you've tried kies, Odin, & Heimdall. There is the possibility that you might have some conflicting drivers wandering around your computer. Why don't you try another computer (if one's available). Run Heimdall...be sure to follow the instructions on verifying your Java version and Microsoft Visual C. If you are successful, be sure and flash the bootloaders and then the basic-with-a-twist kernel.
Hope this works...I'm out of ideas.
i did so.....but no difference......i think it has some hardware problem.....because even if i m in recovery....it freezes after some tine....be it stock recovery or cwm......also i mentioned earlier that only rom which i was able to boot was stock froyo.....but it also freezes after a couple of minutes. and if i dont turn off during it is frozen it becomes very hot and gives over heat signal at next restart..................so assuming it had a hardware problem i returned back the device
Hi everyone, I have been searching this forum to find a CWM that is compatible with KitKat and the infuse 4g. I tried the ROM manager app, but this device is not compatible. Plus I'm trying to meet the post requirement before I can ask this question in dev forum...not a great rule. cuz that way i have to post 10 posts that i don't want to post before I post the one I want.

you just have to flash the roms from the base rooted GB with CWM/RED recovery then update GB ---> ICS----->JB----->KK and the CWM version updates itself and each KK rom has its own CWM version
Thanks.
Thank you.

Do you need to flash in that order.. GB > ICS > JB > KK ? because I just flashed GB with CWM then to whatever next rom happen to be without issue. Each version got it's own kernel/cwm so why need to go thru all that. Just curious.

its recommended....i have tried to jump from gb to kk before but then it wouldn't boot the rom so i put into download mode and went back to stock gb the went to ics then jb then every kk rom out there
Hmm.. weird because I have no issue jumping from GB to the current KK or any other rom.. you just need to turn lagfix off b4 u install other rom.

ok.. I just re-flash to stock a few minutes ago and flash kernel for cwm.. now will install the new 4.4.3 and Gapps. And not going go thru ICS or JB.

So I'm guessing your going with CarbonRom's 6/15 nightly?
Sent from my SGH-I997 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
yep.. let see what 4.4.3 has to offer. Got a couple of days to play around.
For some devices flashing straight from stock just works. If you have red CWM it is a bad candidate and should use ICS as an intermediary. But you can be on GB and not have red CWM (rather blue or green I forget which), as was the case when I first flashed up. This may be your case as well.
Its not the version of the OS that matters, rather the spread of CWM versions. At least that is my understanding of the situation.

I think it's a matter of steps you take from GB to the next rom. For me:
1. GB stock with root.
2. Install sgs kernel flash and flash kernel with CWM (Synthesis).
3. Go into CWM and disable lagfix if it's enabled.
4. Update your flavor rom in recovery mode. NOTE: You will need to flash twice since 1st time give you a warning about partitions.
5. Once flashed it will auto reboot.... HERE you need to remove the battery to power off.. put battery back in and go into recovery mode and flash the rom again since the previous flash only install the new recovery.
6. Install Gapp.
7. CWM: wipe Cache Partition
8. CWM: Advanced > wipe Dalvik Cache
9. Reboot.

Because I have the Rogers variety, my step 2 uses a different product (the name escapes me but I use ODIN to flash it) and I was able to skip over step 3 (not sure if it was even an option). Overall I had red CWM, but the first time CWM was green (or blue). I think the difference in versions had to do that I installed ROM Manager the first time around and tried to install the i9000 (or something) CWM image. It wasn't successful, but it looks like it made some impact.
Out of curiousity, what colour was your CWM in Gingerbread? Synthesis may be using a newer (more forgiving) version.
red cwm 2.5.1.3 after the kernel flashed.
