Problems booting JellyBean ROMs - Eee Pad Transformer Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Has anyone else had issues with getting the various JellyBean ROMs for the Transformer TF101 to boot the first time?
I have tried 3 ROMs now, Cyanogen 10, EOS and rayman33's AOSP build. They all install successfully but none of them boot to the OS, they all just sit at their respective animated boot screen.
I've left each one of them sitting for an hour or more and they never finish booting, so it's not a case of me being impatient.
Has anyone else had this? Were you able to solve it, if so, how?
Thanks

I'm having the same issue. What Recovery are you using? By any chance, did you install CWM 5.5.0.4 and get stuck in that recovery loop before?

You might be onto something there. I did install CWM 5.5.0.4, I never resolved the recovery loop because I rebooted the device so infrequently it was never a problem, until now it seems.

I flashed a newer CWM recovery, then ran the script using SU (either in ADB shell or terminal emulator)
echo boot | dd of=/dev/block/mmcblk0p3 bs=1 seek=0 and it started booting up fine. However, every time I flash anything in recovery, it goes back to the recovery boot. This is why you and I are having to go through the Cold Boot Linux option... thats where mine freezes with one JB ROM and I go into an infinity logo loop with EOS JB ROM...

Try flashing a new recovery. I did this and eliminated the bootloop, mine was caused by updating to .27 while having cwm. I have yet to try a jelly bean rom. I had this issue, flashed teamwin 2.2 touch recovery then cold booted, entered the echo boot cmd in terminal emulator. then restarted tablet which then installed the new recovery and then a reboot performed as expected. Hope this helps.

I did this just now. Perfect... however, I am not able to access my Internal SD Card. Am I doing something wrong?
*Scratch that, i see all of my files
Update: I did this, and I was able to flash JB. No problems. It takes some getting used to, its not familiar to me yet... i accidentally flashed the ROM, then wiped dalvik cache, and forgot to erase/factory default... luckily it booted fine and actually kept all my old settings upgrading from EOS ICS

I still haven't resolved my boot loop problem aaarrrggghhh!!!
I'm sure once I do all will be well.
Thanks guys

When you guys are stuck on the boot logo, how do you reboot the tablet? I'm stuck on boot animation for 10 minutes now, and have no idea how to shut it off, or reboot or go back to recovery. Tried holding power button for 5/10/30 seconds, tried holding power button in combination with Vol- and Vol+ respectivly, nothing. The only thing I can see is just waiting for the battery to die :/
Tried plugging in usb cable, no response out of adb.

ME TOO! I just got the ASUS TF101-X1 from Groupon. Not sure what the model number is. My S/N starts C3OKA and there's RTF101 on here too.
I loaded the TEAM EOS JellyBean ROM and got stuck at the animation logo just after the TEAM EOS appeared. Freaked me out. I, finally, managed to get the Revolver ICS flashed and I'm back up and running,

I take it that when you were stuck on the animation logo, you just pressed and held the power button and it shut off? This is the problem I have right now is that it won't turn off for me. So, its just staying at that animation until presumably it will shut off once the battery drains.

Luckily, I had just flashed Team Rogue recovery just before I flashed the 8/1/12 TEAM EOS JellyBean ROM.
To get to recovery, press and hold Power + Volume Down, then press Volume Up when prompted <- You have to be fast.
I would try flashing [ROM] Revolver 4 by Gnufabio | 4.1.1 Stable - IC411 | Jun 23 | FaceUnlock | APM

That's the problem I have right now tho, is that my TF101 is stuck on the boot animation logo, and I can't get it to go anywhere. It will not turn off with pressing and holding the power button (tried for 10 seconds, 30 seconds, 1 minute, etc). I have CWM on there, so, I guess once my battery dies, and shuts the tablet off, I'll be able to power it back up again. I really wish there was some sort of physical switch that cuts the power to the tablet, because obviously the 'power' button doesn't do it.

I found this over at Transformerforums: "--Hold down the Power button and the Volume Up buttom, at the same time, for 10 seconds. The TF101 will shut itself off, screen will be black. After a minute, hold down the Power button and the Volume Down button, at the same time, for 10 seconds. The screen will come on about 30 sec after you release the buttons.

This puts your tablet in APX mode. It does not shut it down.
I say the simplest way to fix the boot loop is
1. boot into recovery MANUALLY (dont EVER use "boot to recovery" power-menu, ROM manager boot to recovery etc. This is what is causing your bootloops). Manually means holding power+volume DOWN until it says "push volume up", then you push volume up.
2. while in recovery, using adb, run the echo boot commands as listed earlier in this thread.
And to be able to turn off tablet even with bootloops...
3. from recovery, if not running team win recovery, flash team win recovery. You can use adb to transfer files to the tablet while in recovery.
Code:
adb push teamwinrecoverything.zip /sdcard/
4. from team win recovery, chose power off.
The key to unlocking (almost) any Android problem on any Android device is knowing adb and knowing when to use it

Do not flash while docked
I was FINALLY able to get TEAM EOS JB loaded!
A lesson for all n00bs like me.
DO NOT FLASH WHILE DOCKED! I repeat DO NOT FLASH WHILE DOCKED!
Quite by accident, I figured out that flashing while docked caused the JB ROM to stay stuck at the boot animation. As soon as I undocked, after a few seconds, the boot process proceeded and voila! JELLYBEAN!

I posted this else where, so hopefully it isn't looked at as spamming, but when I was trying different ROMs I could not get wifi to work. It was like my Prime didn't see the wireless radio. After two days of u successful ROMs, I ran across "fix permissions" in CWM. This seemed to clear up the issue. I hope this helps somebody, I couldn't find anything referencing this issue.

[Q] Problem booting into Recovery (ClockworkMod)

Please help this newbie out!... I recently rooted my Inspire 4G with attn1's hack kit. That went smooth without issue and I have tried a variety of custom ROMs thanks to this great community, but I have noticed a random issue with booting into ClockworkMod Recovery since... I installed Rom Manager and ClockworkMod Recovery 3.0.0.6 and the problem is that sometimes I can boot into recovery and sometimes not. It only seems to work is the first time I reboot immediately after flashing ClockworkMod, then subsequent reboots the phone just boots normally. (I hold volumn down and press power.) I have also tried installing Amon's Recovery (supersonic 2.3) manually using Fastboot - it seems to install without error but when I try holding the down volume button and hitting power - phone just boots normally. So it seems I am stuck with a ClockworkMod install that does not really work with reliability.... I am lost now trying to figure out why this is happening.
Can someone that has seen similar issues provide some tips/suggestions?
TIA

I had the same problem... quit using version 3.0.0.6 and go back to the earliest version, 2.5.1.3 through All ClockworkMod Recoveries. Worked for me.

You don't have 'fast boot' enabled in settings/application? If so it will not really shut off completely and when you power it up with VOL- it will not work.
i'm also having issues getting cwm to work outside the black screen. i have tried sense/ no sense roms and none have been able to bring up cwm outside the blank screen. i am also running 3.0.0.6 or whatever it is but that has not helped my issue

[Q] Clockworkmod recovery not booting up
I have my phone rooted and ready to flash a custom ROM. I want to install android revolution 4g 4.0. I read that I need to ahve CWM version 3.0.0.6 to flash a 2.3 ROM. Anyways, when i select reboot into recovery in ROM Manager, my phone reboots and shows the HTC logo but then it fades to black screen and does nothing. If i press the power button, the phone reboots normally into the OS. Does anyone know how to fix this so i can install a custom ROM?
I have this exact same issue. Although i can load roms from choosing "Install from sd card" i cannot just boot into recovery and install it from there.
I just recently bought my inspire 4g a week ago.
Mine is 2 days old. Now i cant get it to boot up because it keeps trying to boot into CWM recovery but it cant. Its and endless loop.
Mine wont even load recovery. It reboots the phone but then just fades to a black screen. I cant get back into the OS

Semi-Bricked my TF101

Just picked up a TF101 and it had the Cryo (whatever it is called) OS with ClockworkMod Recovery v5.8.3.4. The OS didn't pick up wifi on the apps but it is on and logged into the router so I did a reset. Once I reset the TF101, i am stuck at CWM. It won't boot into any OS or anything else. I tried almost everything I found googling (this site and others) but nothing works. I did, however, got the TF drivers for my laptop so I can connect to it but I can't get the USB debug option on (of course).
So what are my options? how do I "unbrick" this thing? is this what some people call it soft-brick as it does boot but there just isn't any OS in there? I tried to put the OS zip file from Asus on a MicroSD but when I went to install zip from sdcard, it i can't get to the microSD to install it. it doesn't find it at all.
what can I do? what are the steps in unbricking this thing? I got this for my dad for father's day (chinese father's day which is TODAY...) and would like to get it to him.
Thanks in advance!
Is it in a CWM boot loop? Meaning when you reboot the tablet it keep going back to CWM?
Try this to see if you can boot OS.
Turn off tablet
Push and hold Vol down plus Power button
Wait till you see a screen that give you two options
Wipe data or Cold boot Linux
Choose Cold boot to boot into OS.

If you have ADB working, you can push a ROM file to internal memory and flash it.
Alternatively you can NVFlash a compatible ROM.

Sorry to sound ignorant but what's ad and what command (extra code after the .exe) do I add afterwards?
I'd try to flash a ROM via NVFLASH.
You may download it from here, but you must know if your TF101 is WW version, US version or any other. You must also know if your device is SBK1 or SBK2. That depends on the serial number. For example, mine starts by B50 and it's SBK1. If yours is SBK2 then you'll have to take a look at wheelie. If not, take a look here.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1620758
However, I'm not responsible for any damage your device might suffer.
Take a look at that and tell me
here's the endall- easyflash version 0.8.3b whitekidneys just updated it and saved my brick. it'll save yours too. just install it on your computer, along with naked drivers 0.7, put the tf in apx, and flash. literally that easy.
Follow the link to easy flash / nvflash and follow the steps...

[Q] Fix TF stuck on Asus boot screen?

Couple of days ago I opened up my TF and saw it was stuck on the bootup screen. Since then I have tried multiple times to format /system and do a factory restore in CWM and tried reflashing EOS JB and RaymanFX JB. Both times the TF boots so it shows the blue bar on boot sliding across to show it updated and then dies and reboots and gets stuck on the bootup screen. Is there a way to fix this?
And the loading screen I'm talking about is the one that says eee pad in cursive and "Powered by Nvidea Tegra" on the bottom.
Thanks.
did you flash kernal from RaymanFX
If you are ready flash kernal just go back CWR and selected "Boot recovery" in misc menu
waiting little bit long in the first time but it'll be login successful, it's my experience ^^
note: and flash google app too "gapp"

Isn't the kernel built into the ROM? I guess I will give that a try.
It is better to clean isntall.
Format /data etc.
then isntlal the rom
or download Super Wipe Full form ARHD: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1245892
good luck :]
Do not use super wipe...
Install twrp 2.2.1(recovery)
Use that recovery to wipe internal memory, cache, dalvik and everything else..
Now do a fresh installation of CM10 or eos jb... mind u cm10 gives better audio then eos and cm10 has kernel inbuilt which is better than eos kernel...

Welcome to the forum!
Are you rooted, or are you still stock?
If you are rooted, what recovery are you running?
If you are stock, I would try flashing the latest (.27) firmware for your version (SKU). Download from the Asus support site, unzip it ONCE (it will still be a zip) and put that on a microSD formatted for FAT32. Then hold VOL DOWN and POWER until you see the small white text. Release both buttons and hit VOL UP to enter RCK (recovery) to trigger the flash of the stock firmware.

Tried installing CM10, no boot?

Tried installing CM10 and the phone will no longer boot. I get a spinning logo for an indefinite period of time. I also cannot boot into recovery by holding power, home, and volume up, although I had to boot into recovery to install CM10.
Any ideas?
EDIT: Nevermind, I was able to get into recovery. Sorry for the non-issue!

Finally have you pulled the battery and put it back in then tried to get into recovery?

[Q] SOLVED Problem flashing CyanogenMod 9.1.0 Stable

I rooted my MT4GS a few months ago but stuck with the stock ROM. I decided I wanted to try out the CyanogenMod 9.1 ICS ROM. I followed the following steps:
1) Installed ROM Manager.
2) ROM Manager indicated a newer version of ClockworkMod Recovery and I installed it (5.0.2.7).
3) Using ROM Manager, did a full backup of the current ROM. All went well.
4) Using ROM Manager, downloaded and installed CyanogenMod 9.1.0 stable-doubleshot. I specified to wipe the data and cache partitions. The installation seemed to go normally.
When the phone rebooted, it was stuck at the logo screen. Had to remove the battery to turn it off. Tried a couple times, still the same.
Since I had the backup, I decided I would use CWM to restore the old ROM.
When I boot into recovery mode, it shows CWM 5.0.2.7, but whatever option I try to choose from the recovery menu, The screen just goes blank with the CWM logo in the middle and nothing else happens. Hitting the power button returns me to the menu, but no option works, even power down or reboot. It just goes back to the CWM logo again and I have to remove the battery to shut it down.
So, I thought I would try using fastboot to flash the ROM again. When I boot the phone into the boot loader and select fastboot, then plug the phone in via USB, nothing happens. Windows does not see the phone and ADB or fastboot don't see it either. It's not a driver issue, as the computer is still setup from when the computer was rooted and I connect the phone all the time with no problems.
When the phone is off and plugged into USB or the charger, I still get the charging light, though it goes off after about 10 seconds, then comes back on and cycles like that.
Is there anything I can try at this point, or is my phone bricked? It seems like I followed all the steps correctly. Is there an update.zip I can put in the root folder and see if it picks it up?
Any help would be appreciated.

Ok, after rebooting Windows, I was able to get the USB connection to the phone to work in fastboot. It seems I missed the step described in this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1508556
which states with S-ON you must flash the boot.img separately. I did that via fastboot and the phone boots into cyanogenmod now.
However, I still seem to have the issue with clockwordmod recovery. As long as I do the recovery functions from rom manager, everything is fine, but when I manually boot into the recovery menu, I get the same behavior of any choice from the menu just blanks the screen except for the CWM logo and nothing happens. I tried reflashing the recovery image using fastboot, but still no go.

This is solved also. Seems on the MT4GS, the trackball is the selection button. The power button appears to only be a back button.
What a thread! Two nicely phrased problem definitions, two well explained solutions, and all from the same guy. Sorry we weren't able to help directly, but you obviously found the answers you needed elsewhere in the forum. And you updated the title as well to show it was solved. Thanks.
