Is anyone having issues with Wifi dropping on their TF700? I thought it was a fluke, sometimes I would pick up my device and the wifi would be just be coming back on, but at least a few times now, it has dropped and reconnected while I was using it. Happened on 2 different wifi networks...

~~ I am holding my breath for this ASUS pad ~~ UPS = saying " out for delivery" .............can waite to rip the box open
~~~ am now kinda nervious reading this POST !! >> on the Transformer Tf201 ( the other ips panel 720P version) with AL metal back = had same same issue ~~~ thats why ASUS went to TF300's with all PLASTIC back .........so solve the issue of that METAL = consuming the 'radio singals' ,,, and antenna = way to small voume compared to the metal backing == thus the 'interferance'
So I will be super pissed ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, and that be the FIRST TEST i be running ..............
SURE WILL return it if the 'endless wireless singal loss occurs"
thanks for the post (( just hope am wrong))
I do not think this is a Prime-like design issue.
Have you looked under ASUS' customized settings? Somewhere down there (last one, I believe, form the top of my head) is a toggle for WiFi sleeping when the display is off. Is that disabled?
I've not had these issues either. Wifi has been rock solid since I got it. A little bummed it doesn't support 5 GHz, but luckily the 2.4GHz isn't too crowded where I live now.
GPS is pretty good as well, even indoors. I'd say Asus did good fixing these "design flaws" found in the TF201.
wifi has been fine on my Infinity
Nope. I have not had issue with wifi as far as I know. But I have not watched any streaming video or downloaded any large files yet so that may change.
WiFi has been working great on both home and Corporate WiFi networks. GPS also locked and worked fine indoors.
No issues here as well. Everything rock solid with connections. Good transfer speeds too.
I haven't experienced any wifi dropping either.
Great
Good to know that others are not having problems.
Ausmike: this is definately not the issues we saw with the Prime. Signal strength is fantastic...I think it is slighlty (very slightly) less strong than my TF101, but still very very good. My issue was that the connection would drop and then reconnect. My hope is that this was just a fluke or not related to the device itself.
Thanks,
Chris
If you go into your Settings, there should be ASUS Customized Settings a little halfway down. Inside that screen, near the bottom, there is the 'Disconnect network during sleep'. Make sure the box is unchecked.
Give that a try.
Upon restart my router is remembered but not connected. I have to connect manually every time.
This use to happen to my prime. All the time.
i've had the infinity now for over a week and didn't have any wifi drops until today.
no idea if it was because of bad weather or the router or the pad but i was in the basement were it worked properly before and it always dropped wifi connection repeatedly. i was downloading two torrents (one after the other because two torrents don't work at the same time at all due to I/O issues) and when the infinity was responding (I/O issues) i tried to surf the web. i've held it vertically, if that matters. other than that, no weird issues
I'm also not having any issues. My Wi-Fi is set to "Always on" even while it is sleeping as ASUS_USA said. Have you looked into that?
in my case i was actively using the tablet and it dropped connection, but yes i have it set to "always on".
WIFI is good, especially coming from transformer prime, signal strength seems same as prime, but connection does not fluctuate like when when I had Prime. Very happy with this fix.
Off-topic: However glad I may be you found the answer in ASUS_USA's post, it is a little depressing people do not read the thread, for I have said that several posts up (this thread isn't even that long). I do not care about getting credit -- that's not the issue here -- but it is symptomatic of people not reading threads, so we keep giving out answers that were given out ages ago, repeating ourselves to infinity (pun not intended). That is the exact reason why most forum regulars -- the most knowledgeable in here -- quit after some time helping newer members.
working fine on first day of Infinity
Is everyone having issues or is it just a few. I'm going to exchange mine tomorrow due to wifi issues. Will it be a lost cause to try and find one that will work out of the box or are some working and stable?
Mine works A-OK but I've heard some horror stories here, as well as on IRC.
Viewsonic is releasing an OTA update on Monday and allegedly WiFi is more stable. Allegedly.
Mine has been working fine. I traveled out-of-state with it earlier this week and it worked in the hotel, at the client site, and tethered to my Evo's Sprint Hotspot. I took it to a friend's tonight and it worked just fine there as well (even in his front yard).
mine is ok. on tnt it goes out all the time and i get errors, especially after it goes to sleep by itself. on zpad it seems better but i haven't really tested that rom out much.
On my second one. First one had wifi DOA. Second one is working but the range capability seems to be very poor, plus although it sees and recognized my PEAP AP at work it wouldn't allow me to connect, as it just took me to the security tab and gave up with no helpful options. If the wifi doesn't get better I'll probably give up for a while.
Mine actually worked pretty well. I encountered the disconnect after every stand by, but if i just left it for a minute or so it connected just fine. Now with cm6b3 it works 100%
On a stock, rooted g-tablet, mine has always worked fine. I haven't used it outside of my home, though.
Returned mine today due to the WiFi issue. The closest replacement is 50 miles away. I think I'm going to wait and see how the updates work out before I pick up another one. May wait to see if i can get a refurb on Sears outlet. It is too bad, I really liked the thing.
It would be hard to get an OTA update if you can't get the wifi to connect....
The only Wi-Fi problem I am having is the disconnect even though in Settings I have it set to never power off the Wi-Fi.
It disconnects even if my G Tablet does not go to sleep. In other words it disconnects even with the screen up at all times.
It appears to disconnect when there is no Wi-Fi activity for a few minutes, such as reading a long web page or putting the tablet down for a while.
First attempt to communicate over Wi-Fi results in an error message but then the Wi-Fi connection goes back up and all is OK until the next time.
I mentioned this to Viewsonic Support and they suggested I get the tablet replaced. Somehow I don't think this is a hardware problem though.
My first one had almost no range. I could be standing right on top of the router and have 1 bar, my phone (droid1) would have full signal. Sitting at my desk I only saw my router while my phone would see all the neighbors. I exchanged it that same day. The new one mimicked my phone, same signal strength, saw all the same networks. So it seems like the wifi radio's in these things are very hit/miss.
chad
No issues with the wifi. I added the latest tnt lite 2.2.0 and I had
no issues. Right now I'm still trying different android apps.
I am still learning how to type on the tablet. ...
WiFi great
My stock gTablet worked very well on the 'net from the outset. It took me less than 5 minutes to get on; the hardest thing was to find the WEP key I had misplaced. I have coverage all over the 1-story house and front and back yards.
Mine works perfectly. I've had no Wi-Fi issues at all.
No wifi
mine can not scan for wifi keeps telling me unable to scan for networks. Going to call support see if there is a work around, hoping by updating may correct problem.
Irony alert! Watch out for people who have had great wifi to switch places with the folks currently having bad wifi. That is how this stuff sometimes works.... displacement!
So since I have had good wifi, maybe should not joke....
Inconsistent
Mine used to (returned it) disconnect randomly, whether I was in the middle of something or not. Very frustrating having to wait a moment (~30-60 sec) for it to reconnect before I could resume.
Plus the fact that it didn't have the option to connect to my WLAN without SSID broadcasting is inexcusable.
WiFi works as good for me as it did on the Augen GT. Not great range, but I still get signal at a distance that I'd normally be outside and away from the WiFi AP... even had it re-connect to WiFi as expected when I accidentally let it go to sleep once w/stock fw. never tried this again since moving to TnTL custom fw...
My WPDN OTOH was a POS at this range and would randomly disconnect and reconnect along with pathetically slow transfer speeds...
My WiFi constantly is getting dropped. Even when it's just sitting on my desk in front of me. So I'm not even touching it (not death grip related). I'm about 15 feet away from the router. Anyone else having issues?
hahaha. Yeah, I haven't been on active in about a year or so, but not so much a noob . First thing I did was a search (which is down right now) and hit the first few pages to see if any topics had anything in the title. I guess I could have done a google "site:xda-developers sensation wifi" search.
So.... How many out there are having non death grip related wifi issues?
LOL
Yes there are and will be a influx of newbs because of this phone but it won't be the last time either....
Back to topic.
Some may have wifi issues and is warranted. No I am not talking about the death grip issue, just that there is an option on the phone to increase reception by going to the advanced menu of the wifi setting. There is a toggle that reads to the likes of wifi best performance.
This is probably for some instances where wifi is weak but some should try and report back if it helps.
Yeah, I've got that sucker checked, and am still having the same issue.
Yes! I have posted another thread about this somewhere in the last 24 hours. I am having wifi issues. My download speeds seem to drop to <10% of normal and the only way to fix it is to cycle wifi off and on. Upload speeds remain the same. This problem is definitely not death grip related since the phone is on a table for most of these tests.
I have read recent threads to see if tmo has your correct IMEI on file as well as an updated SIM card. I did both yesterday. I activated the sim I had that came with the phone and confirmed that the IMEI was indeed correct on tmo's system. I did this via live chat.
After doing that, my data has been pretty constant. No hangups here. I use wifi both at home and at work and connect without a hitch.
same issue here. phone is on my desk here at home about 6 ft from my router and it just drops randomly. its quite annoying. im not touching it so its not deathgrip. though it has done it while im holding the phone vertcially (that is, not holding the top where the antenna is). for some reason i have a hard time getting anything other than edge in my house so i have the wifis on all the time.
well, since i have the option, i decided to try another router. i was using a linksys/cisco e3000 with dd-wrt firmware. the 2.4 radio was the only one on and it was set to g-only. i still have my old linksys wrt54gl sitting around so i plugged it in a little bit ago. obviously 2.4 g-only mode and this is also running dd-wrt. ive been fiddling with my phone here in the same 6ft range and ive not had one drop. perhaps its a router specific issue? i dunno. ill see if i have any more issues tomorrow
I made a thread about my wifi issues a week ago when I got the phone, but I'll join in here too.
My phone just refuses to actually associate with a network most of the time. Stellar signal strength, something else is going on.
the WiFi status menu accessed by dialing *#*#4636#*#* may be able to help some of you.
Mine will say the following:
then
Network State: Disconnected
Supplicant State: SCANNING
Network State: Disconnected
Supplicant State: ASSOCIATED
then:
Network State: Connecting to [insert name of wireless network here]
Supplicant State: ASSOCIATED
then back to:
Network State: Disconnected
Supplicant State: SCANNING
When it is in "ASSOCIATED" state, it lists a signal strength, BSSID, link speed, and MAC address of the AP. No IP address of course, it doesn't get that far. The scan results shows about 30 entries (half a screen full of tiny text) all the same SSID, one per AP and the APs are all over (big tech company with a very solid network).
just to update, ive had my sensation running on my old router for about 4 hours now (with the "best wifi performance" option OFF even) and not a single drop, even holding landscape. it seems the phone and either the e3000 or the version of dd-wrt on the e3000 have issues working nicely together.
I'm experiencing the issue where my wifi bandwidth drops to a very slow (roughly 300 kbs) rate after spending some time on my wifi network. Restarting wifi on my Sensation immediately resolves the issue, only for it to crop up again sometime later.
On the topic of it being a router issue, my home network is 2 WRT54GLs WDS'd together (running Tomato) that offers no issue for any other computer or phone.
I returned my first Sensation that was experiencing the issue and received a second, which acts in the same manner.
Quite frustrating, as I rely heavily on wifi at home as even my cellular reception is not the best where I live, forget data, and use wifi and wifi calling to get by.
The design is to blame for the wifi issue. IMO the G2x rebooting problem is less severe than this. I use wifi 90% of the time and ive had 3 units which all had this issue.
The others that dont, I dont know how you got lucky, or if you got a bad ass N router and thats the trick, but I cant take it. I cant even play a online FPS game in my room without losing signal. Anyone want to prove me wrong in that there are a few good ones? and if so please post a video?
Death grip here also. I guess I'll just have to live with it.
However, there is one good thing. HTC can release a cover with a design that won't have the issue (they won't, but I hope there will be some 3rd party ones)
Sent from my HTC Sensation Z710e
"Deathgrip"? WTF is that. the iPhone disgusts me, thanks for this.. now it's running rampant all over the internet even when it doesn't make sense.
There is obviously a problem with the WiFi signal strength and yes it's a design/hardware issue. Exchanging the phone won't fix the problem.
I solved it by moving up a WiFi router in my room that repeats the WiFi signal from my main router. I had the secondary router already running DD-WRT software which is required for this type of thing.
Why didn't you just continue your other thread? 2 about the same thing is a bit much
Don't think this one posted...
It's got to be ground issue.
yeah. i have been with mine for 2 weeks and since about just a couple of hours ago the wifi wont work. it was working fine all day then i was going to check fb and it said that there was no connection. it clearly had full signal. i restarted the phone and worked well. then later i was going to access the camera app directly from the lock screen and it froze, it wont do anything. pulled the battery and turned on the phone. after turning on the phone i turned on the wifi and it will not connect. it detects the signals and tells you all the info about it but it wont connect. it stays in a loop saying obtaining ip address, disconnected and scanning and then goes back again to obtaining ip address and so on. i have done 2 hard resets and restarted the router and nothing.btw the router is in the same room just a couple of feet from me.
EDIT : i think i jump the gun too fast. tested my ps3 thru the wireless network and it connects like 50% of the time. again the ps3 is in the same room as the router. went to my cousins house and the phone conected to the wireless effortless on the first try. i dont know if it is the phone or the router.i dont know what to think anymore.
The Sensation doesn't have brilliant WiFi reception and can't hold on to a weak signal if you hold the device, whereas something like a laptop could.
But with a good signal it does work well and for me that's a fair trade off at present. Yes it could be better, but is there a perfect device.
Typing this in Starbucks at present over WiFi and yes in landscape, and I even have my fingers covering the back of the device
Full signal strength. Same at home.
I tried this in another Starbucks, I lost connection every time in landscape mode, returned in portrait, that has been the only time that I could recreate this death grip issue.....
I've seen a few issues lately with the Cisco/Linksys E1000 routers and wifi. 3 out of the 5 i installed in the past 6 months kept dropping wifi,even right next to it. Probably not what you have, but just in case, i thought i would mention it. At $50-$60 they've been a popular model lately.
Hey guys,
My tf101 has wifi connectivity issues. My router is approx. 15 meters away from my room and it has poor wifi signal most of the time or no signal at all.
When I turn it on, it finds it and connects, I am able to browse. But then, a few seconds after staying connected, it disconnects again, it just disappears, zero signal. I turn off wifi and then back on. It either does the same thing, or, tries to authenticate/connect to the network and disappears again. When I put my tablet right next to the router, it connects perfectly for much longer. But sometimes, it still loses signal completely!
Soon after, I decided to do some research and I found out that changing Channels (I changed it to Channel 6) on the router could help. So I did, and it magically works. It manages to connect and stays on for much longer, but... it sometimes still does the same thing. But when I'm not at home, I can't change the wifi channel settings (I don't think?) so I want to know why this happens...
Even my Sony Android phone, has average wifi signal and is able to browse smoothly from where my room is.
I've been thinking if the root cause of this problem is from the antenna inside the tablet? Maybe not connected properly?
Should I open it up? And if so, is it safe to open it up? And what should I do when I open it up? Does anyone know anything about how the Wi-Fi system works in the tablet?
I am in need of some advice on how to open it and what I should do to fix it.
I'm worried that I might break it somehow...
Cheers,
Hong
What ROM are you running? Some have wifi issues. Even the stock asus ICS rom have so-so wifi imo.
As for opening it up... That would just be stupid if you dont know what youre doing. Some parts are extremely fragile, especially the frame around the display.
Youre better off RMA'ing it.
Had the same issue, solved it by replacing my f*cking Linksys WAG2G with an Buffalo Gigabit router.
Stock rom, stock asus ICS.
I have a bit of experience in opening up laptops, which are quite compact but not as compact as a tablet or a phone I'm guessing.
Is there a good method of opening it up the tablet? Like a video tutorial or something?
I don't think it's my router problem though... All my other devices can connect to the Wi-Fi from the same distance perfectly.
So I'm guessing it's the device itself, either the hardware side or the software side... Still not sure
Trust me when I say this: The difference between the TF and a laptop is like the difference between a PC and a laptop ... ok maybe not quite as extreme, but theres a huge difference.
And yes there is a video tutorial on these forums, somewhere...
So last Friday I bought the note pro (wifi only). Overall I'm pretty happy with it, but I've got a few annoying problems.
My first problem is that the wifi connection keeps falling, even when the signal is strong. I know that the problem is the tablet and not the router, because my cell phone (huawei honor 2) doesn't have any problem connecting to the wifi.
My second problem is that sometimes the hardware buttons stop working. Whenever this happens, the two software buttons only react to the s pen, they don't react to my finger anymore. After a while, this problem passes, but it keeps returning...
And finally, my third problem is that sometimes the screen turns off without a reason. Screen time out is set to one minute and smart stay is turned off.
So my tablet is the p900, bought new last Friday, the software is official and up to date and the device is unrooted. I tried a factory reset to solve these problems, but it didn't help... I really don't know what to do now Can you please help me?
Problems 2 and 3 are most likely case relared. Chances are you're using a case that has a cover that flips and this cover may have magnets to assist in keeping it closed as well as turning on/off the screen. There's no way to reduce sensitivity to the magnets so far. Only thing that can be done is experiment with how you use the case. As for wifi problems there aren't too many options. I would experiment with channels first and then test with other hot spots before moving onto a factory reset.
Thank you! Well, I am using a case like that, so I'm hoping that's the problem. As for the wifi, how do I change the channels? I'm sorry, I'm a total noob
What you could do as a first shot is install wifi analyzer on the tablet and look to see how many other wireless networks are around. This would help you decide what channels to try on your router to see if you can improve things. You'd then log into the administration page of your router (from your PC) and make adjustments to the wifi network there.
If that doesn't help . . I'm not sure . . I've read in the past that some devices have issues with certain routers, not this tablet in particular but perhaps its an issue for your combination. I think I'd move to checking your tablet's performance on someone else's network and see how stable it is. If it's stable elsewhere then perhaps it's time for a new wireless router.
I have experienced the wifi issue once or twice. Turning wifi off and back on fixes it quickly. There may be some issue between the note pro and my router, but I am more inclined to say is a bug with the note pro. I have approx 12-15 devices on my network all the time and never experience this same issue on any of them, my router is the Asus ac66r (best buy version of the ac66u).
Either way it doesn't bother me much, but I would find your other issues little more annoying.
