[Q] wifi and hardware buttons problems - Galaxy Note Pro 12.2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So last Friday I bought the note pro (wifi only). Overall I'm pretty happy with it, but I've got a few annoying problems.
My first problem is that the wifi connection keeps falling, even when the signal is strong. I know that the problem is the tablet and not the router, because my cell phone (huawei honor 2) doesn't have any problem connecting to the wifi.
My second problem is that sometimes the hardware buttons stop working. Whenever this happens, the two software buttons only react to the s pen, they don't react to my finger anymore. After a while, this problem passes, but it keeps returning...
And finally, my third problem is that sometimes the screen turns off without a reason. Screen time out is set to one minute and smart stay is turned off.
So my tablet is the p900, bought new last Friday, the software is official and up to date and the device is unrooted. I tried a factory reset to solve these problems, but it didn't help... I really don't know what to do now Can you please help me?

Problems 2 and 3 are most likely case relared. Chances are you're using a case that has a cover that flips and this cover may have magnets to assist in keeping it closed as well as turning on/off the screen. There's no way to reduce sensitivity to the magnets so far. Only thing that can be done is experiment with how you use the case. As for wifi problems there aren't too many options. I would experiment with channels first and then test with other hot spots before moving onto a factory reset.

Thank you! Well, I am using a case like that, so I'm hoping that's the problem. As for the wifi, how do I change the channels? I'm sorry, I'm a total noob

What you could do as a first shot is install wifi analyzer on the tablet and look to see how many other wireless networks are around. This would help you decide what channels to try on your router to see if you can improve things. You'd then log into the administration page of your router (from your PC) and make adjustments to the wifi network there.
If that doesn't help . . I'm not sure . . I've read in the past that some devices have issues with certain routers, not this tablet in particular but perhaps its an issue for your combination. I think I'd move to checking your tablet's performance on someone else's network and see how stable it is. If it's stable elsewhere then perhaps it's time for a new wireless router.

I have experienced the wifi issue once or twice. Turning wifi off and back on fixes it quickly. There may be some issue between the note pro and my router, but I am more inclined to say is a bug with the note pro. I have approx 12-15 devices on my network all the time and never experience this same issue on any of them, my router is the Asus ac66r (best buy version of the ac66u).
Either way it doesn't bother me much, but I would find your other issues little more annoying.

I have also experienced Wi-Fi issues with my 12.2 note. I turn Wi-Fi off and then on as well, I have the Asus 66U/Apple Extreme and experience issues with both Wi-Fi systems. I believe this issue is relative to the Note Pro as well.
Peace and blessings,

Cant take the WIFI issue anymore as I think its Hardware

The design is to blame for the wifi issue. IMO the G2x rebooting problem is less severe than this. I use wifi 90% of the time and ive had 3 units which all had this issue.
The others that dont, I dont know how you got lucky, or if you got a bad ass N router and thats the trick, but I cant take it. I cant even play a online FPS game in my room without losing signal. Anyone want to prove me wrong in that there are a few good ones? and if so please post a video?
Death grip here also. I guess I'll just have to live with it.
However, there is one good thing. HTC can release a cover with a design that won't have the issue (they won't, but I hope there will be some 3rd party ones)
Sent from my HTC Sensation Z710e
"Deathgrip"? WTF is that. the iPhone disgusts me, thanks for this.. now it's running rampant all over the internet even when it doesn't make sense.
There is obviously a problem with the WiFi signal strength and yes it's a design/hardware issue. Exchanging the phone won't fix the problem.
I solved it by moving up a WiFi router in my room that repeats the WiFi signal from my main router. I had the secondary router already running DD-WRT software which is required for this type of thing.
Why didn't you just continue your other thread? 2 about the same thing is a bit much
No deathgrip here, I've tried and tried. Dunno what to say Brah. Works the same with my N router and my G router, Perfectly.

Don't think this one posted...
It's got to be ground issue.
yeah. i have been with mine for 2 weeks and since about just a couple of hours ago the wifi wont work. it was working fine all day then i was going to check fb and it said that there was no connection. it clearly had full signal. i restarted the phone and worked well. then later i was going to access the camera app directly from the lock screen and it froze, it wont do anything. pulled the battery and turned on the phone. after turning on the phone i turned on the wifi and it will not connect. it detects the signals and tells you all the info about it but it wont connect. it stays in a loop saying obtaining ip address, disconnected and scanning and then goes back again to obtaining ip address and so on. i have done 2 hard resets and restarted the router and nothing.btw the router is in the same room just a couple of feet from me.
EDIT : i think i jump the gun too fast. tested my ps3 thru the wireless network and it connects like 50% of the time. again the ps3 is in the same room as the router. went to my cousins house and the phone conected to the wireless effortless on the first try. i dont know if it is the phone or the router.i dont know what to think anymore.
The Sensation doesn't have brilliant WiFi reception and can't hold on to a weak signal if you hold the device, whereas something like a laptop could.
But with a good signal it does work well and for me that's a fair trade off at present. Yes it could be better, but is there a perfect device.
Typing this in Starbucks at present over WiFi and yes in landscape, and I even have my fingers covering the back of the device
Full signal strength. Same at home.
I tried this in another Starbucks, I lost connection every time in landscape mode, returned in portrait, that has been the only time that I could recreate this death grip issue.....

I've seen a few issues lately with the Cisco/Linksys E1000 routers and wifi. 3 out of the 5 i installed in the past 6 months kept dropping wifi, even right next to it. Probably not what you have, but just in case, i thought i would mention it. At $50-$60 they've been a popular model lately.
I am using a netgear n router and I still have signal in the basement and second floor (router is on the first floor)..I haven't noticed any WiFi problems but I have only had the phone 3 days...but I use WiFi calling all the time..

[Q] wifi slow on new tablet! help!

So here's the deal. I just bought a pipo u1 from pandawill.com. (so many problems with them... they didn't send charger, USB cord, or manual... long processing time... etc.) Now I have been using the tablet, and I am very pleased with the overall performance. I have no issues with the tablet itself. I still have to update to the newest English firmware when I get to a computer, but for the most part I see nothing wrong with the actual tablet.
My issue comes into place here... I am having horrible WiFi issues with the tablet. Before anyone tells me that the WiFi antenna is cheap, I just want to express that there is no signal issue. I have decent signal strength and it stays connected under most circumstances.
The weird part is that my download speeds are around 500kbps and uploads are around 1000kbps. That seems odd to me when my droid incredible pulls around 6.5 Mbps down/up.
I have scoured every forum I can find to fix the issue, but come up with nothing. The only possible fix I've found is to change the WiFi channel of the router, but that proves to be impossible for me as I do not own the router or have access to it. I did do the WiFi analyzer and found out that the router is using channel 1 which from my reading I found is generally standard.
The other problem that my WiFi has is dropped signal. I never drop signal during normal course of events, but I do drop under heavy download attempts such as downloading from Google play store or streaming videos online. This is the weirdest thing about the problem, since I don't drop at any other time. The drops generally only happen during streaming, but like I said it has happened when downloading from the play store occasionally.
My question is this. Is there any way to fix my issues without access to the router? And what reasons could there be for the problems I have?
Any information would be appreciated, I would hate to think that this tablet is junk. This thing is amazing for the price I paid, and out performs my grandmothers kindle greatly. If I can fix this WiFi issue I will be golden.
Also, I spoke with another person who owns a pipo u1 and they have none of these issues at all, so I don't think the tablet itself is the issue unless I just got a bad one. But I have no other issues really. Thanks in advance.
First time poster, long time reader. Hope I did the post right.
Test it in other wifi networks. If the problem persists, send it back.

Poor Wifi Issues?

Hey gang,
Any Note 5 owners experiencing any wifi connectivity issues? I've found that the connection becomes completely unresponsive if I lose a single bar of wireless signal, and even during regular usage with full signal, the wifi connection will just drop off and reconnect back to the access point. I took a Galaxy Note 2, a Nexus 6, and the Note 5 to one of the spots where 1 bar drops, the Note 2 and Nexus 6 have no issues and still get 120Mbit on Speedtest. The Note 5 just times out until I get the signal back up to full strength.
I've made sure Smart Network Switch is disabled, and I don't see anything to disable any Wifi optimizations so I'm guessing that isn't an option anymore.
Regards,
--Henry
I haven't had any issues with my note 5 so far... have you tried rebooting the router? Every week or two I have to do that with my router cuz of weird stuff like that.

Unfortunately a router reboot does nothing, and I had a feeling it would do nothing since all the other devices are on wireless perfectly fine. Only the Note 5 has issues.
The router isn't a slouch either, it's an Asus RT-N66U so it's not some kind of cheapy wireless router
Bummer...
Yup major issues thought it was just me

WiFi issues here with an Asus router as well. My Nexus 6, Note 4, S6, and G3 are fine on 2.4ghz / 5ghz but my Note 5 seems sluggish on either speed and eventually drops out entirely until I cycle the WiFi connection

You would think that with Samsung being the reputable company they are, they would ensure their devices weren't plagued by these issues.
I'm on the fence about returning the note 5, the wifi drops out so much that I'm not going to settle with paying a big chunk of change just to have a faulty device.
Haven't seen any WiFi drops here. I rely on WiFi Calling while at the office and it held stable both Friday and today. Browsing seemed fine too.
I'm having the same issue. The connection doesn't drop, just becomes unresponsive. I have to toggle it to get it back.
Unfortunately, just because they're the same model does not mean the exact same parts were used to make them.
It may be that some phones were built with a router from a bad batch/supplier, while other sm920t are without the fault.
It may be worth a shot to do a warranty replacement. You can do it as many times as you need to get a properly working device, even. I dont think theres a charge, and if it is it's negligible. If you're the type to think you shouldnt have to pay for their mistake (like me...) you could probably convince customer service to credit the fee. Just remember to be nice... customer service is a crappy job, so you'd be surprised how far they'll go to help the people whom brighten up their day :-]

T-Mobile charges shipping on warranty swaps, which is usually around $6.95.

I had gotten a replacement today, and it has the exact same Wifi connectivity issues. New device cannot maintain a stable connection. Even my old, crappy Galaxy S2X is able to hold a connection better than the Note 5.
It's really sad, I had high hopes for this device but it seems like Samsung completely dropped the ball on this one. Looks like I'm returning it and looking for an alternative.
I am connected at home and office - i do not experience any issues. I have terrible cell reception at my desk which is why I use the WIFI

I dunno bud... my WiFi speeds are remarkably fast. I only pay for 75down/75up.
My WiFi seems to be working ok... I pay for 100 mbps down and 10 mbps up...
My wifi problems seem to have disappeared for now.

Oh it's not that it's not fast -- it's extremely fast! The problem is that the wifi constantly drops, even in the same room as the router, the wifi drops connection and then reconnects, interrupting anything that I was currently doing.
Hmmm, that's no good. I haven't had that issue with the note 5. if I did have that issue, I would try to turn airplane mode on, shut down the phone and boot to stock recovery, wipe cache, reboot, turn wifi on and see if that helps - not saying it will, but if it isn't working right to begin with, it isn't going to make it any worse.
Just a thought...
Additionally, I have had that problem periodically ( not with the note 5 cut its only a few days old), though it usually affects multiple devices, not just one device at my house. When it happens, even rebooting the router and modem doesn't always help. There have been a few times that I have called my cable provider and they "re provisioned" the modem while I was on the phone with them. After that, the problem seemed to go away for many months. The issue was actually the cable modem, not my router.
I posted in the generic Note 5 thread on wifi issues. Im having the similar problems maintaining a stable connection on both work and home networks. Home 5ghz N wpa2 psk, work 5ghz N eap-fast/peap, and work hotspot 2.4ghz open. All networks exibit the same behavior, the note has trouble initially connecting, where it try and drops several times. A bit later it will show the popup that it connected to network name. Any queries seem to be extremely slow or time out. I have manually set my DNS servers to googles with no change in behavior. Wireless calling effectively doesn't work while this is going on. Im going to get a replacement phone tomorrow, but this seems more like a software or driver issue. My nexus 6 had no issues connecting to these networks. My note 4 did exibit connection stability problems on my home network, even though the AP is barely 15 feet away. Im heading to my Aptment in texas this weekend, I have ubiquti AC wireless APs set up there, will see if AC connectivity is at least solid.
Asus routers tend to not play nicely with Samsung devices unfortunately, I have an asus router as well and I have had multiple samsung devices that are unable to maintain a stable connection as well. Something that I have done to make it less annoying is turn off wifi power saving mode. If you don't know how open your dialer and dial *#0011# then go to wifi at the top right. Usually helps the issue. Also I only have my samsung devices connect to my 2.4ghz network instead of the 5ghz.

Major wifi issue in pixel

Everything is smooth and perfect except Wifi.
I can found close wifi networks (Mobile hotspots created by other phones) but if I try to connect it just saves them, cannot connect to any wifi networks.
And the strength is too low. It is unable to find my room's wifi ...!!
So I am just totally unable to use wifi in my Pixel :/
Also I turn on Hotspot on my Pixel, it turns on but I cannot find it from other devices.
Also upgraded from 8.1.0 to 9.0 but still same issue.
Without Wifi its so miserable experience Any Solution?????
Yeah, same issue. It's a hardware thing. If you've dropped your phone either the cable came loose or the PCB board is off. I threw mine before (long story) but can't use wifi nor Bluetooth without being close to what I'm connected to.
I just don't feel like fixing it considering the pixel can break by repair. Plus, my 6p is my DD anyway
Dang, I gave my sister this phone and this problem just appeared. Time to look for a new phone for her.
Ok, being real for a second, this worked and I know it is a VERY BAD workaround but can help in a pinch.
I bought a refurb pixel on woot. Took a while to get it because it was sent to a friend's PO box and then brought to mexico, ergo no warranty.
Unboxed it and had this exact same issue; little to no signal on very few wifi hotspots and just "saving"
Seeing as this might be hardware related as @creep138 mentioned, I tried the following:
PRESS considerably hard on the point that the antenna connector should be.
After a couple of seconds of force and massaging, wifi came on and connected.
I KNOW this is a bad idea, I KNOW this might cause several issues on the long run, but if you have it sitting in a drawer doing nothing because of this issue, give it a try.
For reference this was done on a Verizon Black Pixel. The small one. and the point to apply pressure to is about half an inch below the camera and flash module.
Hope this helps

Status update:
After doing what I have already described, that helped to connect to the wifi at my workplace. Nonetheless I didn't have suck luck with my home wifi.
After reading here and there, some users reported the device connecting to 5Ghz wifi no problem. My work is indeed 5Ghz and my home is 2.4
After unpacking and installing a 5Ghz capable router, the pixel connected no problem to it (after applying the aforementioned pressure)
Hope this helps

S10e WiFi connectivity issue

Hello all!
I have a S10e, running stock Android 10. The wifi at my house constantly disconnects and reconnects, rendering my phone as virtually useless, as it switches between my mobile network and wifi. I have tried all of the trouble shooting I've found online, just short of a full backup/master reset. I'm trying to avoid that.
Does anyone have any idea what may be causing this? Better yet, how can I fix it? I'm rather annoyed, as I've had several Samsung Galaxy phones that have had minor issues, but nothing as annoying as this. I'm about to buy another model phone.
Thanks in advance

Hi, I have the S10e G970F_MMI - Singapore Snapdragon. Similar issues with wifi and bluetooth turning off immediately after update. Got one message from Wi-Fi control history that said Google Play services turned off wi-fi. I tried disconnecting Play services but that did not help however I am suspicious that it might also have something to do with Bixby Routines. Tried Samsung but no help as my phone is only 13 months old and 1 month out of warranty and I am not in Singapore but stuck in UK. Like you, I am a long time Samsung client with phones, tablets and TV's but I have now lost confidence in them. I tried factory reset and reflashing the custom ROM but no luck. I do hope that you can resolve your wi-fi issue and have a wonderful New Year.
Apparently, Samsung admitted the S10 series suffers from this issue. I noticed it on mine, just in the last month or two, disconnecting intermittently roughly every 30 minutes. I thought it might have been my router, but I realized it's definitely my phone (S10e US snapdragon).
Nothing I tried fixed it. I did disable "wi-fi power saving mode" and wifi auto connect (I have tasker auto re-connect wifi when it disconnects).
I do have "wi-fi san throttling" enabled in developer options, which shouldn't have anything to do with this. HOWEVER, you might try "wi-fi safe mode" under developer options and see if that helps keep it more persistent.
One other suggestion, though it shouldn't matter, is to try assigning a specific IP address to your phone (do this from your router settings, not your phone). And you can search for other solutions online to cut down on radio interference on your home network. Other devices and neighbors might be disrupting the router signal strength, possibly dropping it below a level that causes your phone to drop wifi.
I got the same problem before, used an Asus router. I changed to a Qualcomm chip router and its fixed. Try a different router?

Unfortunately I cannot, as the router I have is from my internet provider. I would have to run that to another router and at that point it's just a waste of money. Thank you for the info though! If I get annoyed enough I may buy a cheap router to see if it fixes the problem.
