I want to start a small cellphone repair business maybe make it mobile.I wanted to see if anyone here that has experience in that field could give me some tips on how to get It running. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you in advance
Asking business tip here I think might not be the best place however what counts the most is how you threat your first customers they are the most important so make sure to try your best in satisfy as much as you can..
You might as well want to get a website..

Making a web site is a great idea ! Perhaps do some advertising. Word of mouth is also wonderful advertisement! Treat your customers well and they will recommend more people to your business. I wish you the very best. I've had experience in growing business in the dental profession and business is business you must advertise! Phone book, news paper , online, flyers, get the word out. I wish you the very best. Think of creative advertisement, radio, door flyers, balloons , anything to get your name out there. A web site is a great start however to get customers any form of advertisement is good. Best of luck to you! I've seen business grow tremendously just by doing the simple suggestions I've given you!

I recommend not threatening your customers.
I've found that hurts business.
In all seriousness there are 2 really important things to know. Treat your customers like gold, and have cash on hand to correct your mistakes. And you WILL make a mistake and bork up someone's phone at some point. Even if you are an expert and have done it 20 times and never had a problem, when you start doing it in higher volume you will break something eventually. You want to make sure you can get that customer a new phone or you'll have to deal with a lot of misery if they want to take you to small claims court or something. (Not to mention it's the right thing to do if you break a customer's phone.)
You might even think about geting insurance to cover your msitakes, if you can obtain it.
Things to watch out for are the scammers, who WILL find you. Someone will have a completely bricked phone, send it to you, claim you broke it, and demand a replacement. You need to have a plan in place to prevent that as much as possible and to know how to deal with it when it happens.
And not that it's a huge risk for a part time cell phone repair business that you are talking about, but be sure to separate the business from your personal life. Have a business bank acount and a separate tax id number (if you are in the US) to completely remove the business from your personal life. That way if you do get sued, or go into debt, or otherwise have a disaster, it can only take down the business and can't take down your personal finances. I mean let's say you get a phoen that has naked pictures of someone on it and somehow you accidentally text those pictures to everyone in the phone's directory (Or something else equally as stupid). The owner could sue you for hefty damages. You want to make sure that they can only sue the business and not you personally. And there are jerks out there who would do a thing like that. But if your business finances nad personal finances are all intermingled, you can't make the arguement that the two are separate.
Oh, one other REALLY important thing. Don't be discouraged if you fail! Most small businessed fail. Sometimes they are run badly, sometimes it's just bad luck. In either case, don't get discouraged. Make sure you learn everthing you can about hat worked and what didn't and don't be afraid to climb righ tback on tehe horse and try another business for your next good idea later.
I didn't meant threat lmao typo I meant treat nicely
Yeah however there are a lot of scammers you have to somehow manage to know if it's bricked or not which can be hard to do... But however as real said advertising is the way to go!
Might want to rent a little store to begin whit and if your budget allows you for extra gain you can as well sell accessories besides the repair good luck sir!

Start your business on Ebay, Get some good feedback so you can transfer it to your website. I have repaired Screens and boards on..G1,Hero,Desire,Legend,Iphones (boooo) kindles,Blackberrys the Wildfire and Wildfire S all via ebay or word of mouth. Most commonly the Digitizer on Iphones.I only charge £20 for iphone repairs dont have a website and still get a fair amount of business. I also offer Android S-OFF,Sim unlock and debranding for £10 all in on ebay.
What the guy said about customers is 100% right, don't annoy your customers all it takes is 1 bad feedback nowadays and that could be game over. Good luck with it all,if i could get enough to make a living i wouldn't have to work 4 jobs!
Wow your input was amazing thank you so much guys.I have one question . How would I start a service business on eBay? I thought it only sold products
You can sell services also, search ebay and you'll see.
Also, is there cheaper way to acquire experience besides buying broken phones and disassembling/reassembling them

How you can do it ? Well when selling a product you have to make a description most of the time people refer their website along or create a kind of banner and put direct access to their store in which you can see all their ebay items listed
You can watch on youtube and find some great how-to for the banner/ad part
And also a good tip in business be patient money doesn't roll in in day one

Craigslist works great to get local business. Also use google adwords. Its advertising from google. You pay as you go. You set a budget and can change it anytime, it is the best advertising for the money. I have a computer repair business and it helped tremendously. Also dont forget about facebook and twitter. Facebook is great for getting a new business going. Dont spend a lot in the phonebook. people use google now days. Also set up a free business page with google so it shows up on google maps, its free. Good luck!

yes that's what kind of amazes me about this tool is that you can submerge it into the alcohol and it will make sure that every nook and cranny is cleaned with it instead of searching for it with a Q-tip
this is a link to what it looks like. I have heard some cell phone repair shops invested into this. instead of cleaning solution, you fill it with isopropyl:

Hi, Altough I am very late in the discussion but I think I have found the most appropriate place to clear my doubts. Sir, I am planning to open a mobile repair shop in my city (India). I have no idea about mobile repair yet. I am planning to do a mobile repair course before I jump into this field. I dont know anything about the tools, boxes and softwares used for repairs. I will have to establish a spare parts supply chain also. I am very scared. There are hundreds of mobiles repair shops in my city. But all of them are running it in a very un-professional way. Cheating people. I want to change that. I want to open a shop which will run in a professional and honest way. I have some ideas like pick and drop facility etc. What do u advice me? How can i gain knowledge on this industry? Is this business profitable if I dont cheat people?
If you have any doubts, why not consult those who already do that for some time, After all it's better to learn from other mistakes/experience than yours.

I bought my G-tab online Nov. 1 via PayPal, received the tablet, and assumed the transaction went through. I just checked and they never took the money! The transaction expired Friday and is listed as "Canceled" now.
Anyone ever experienced this? I kinda want to call them to see why they didn't take the money. But, I kinda don't wanna tempt fate and look a $398.99 gift horse in the mouth either! LOL!
Thoughts???
It may sound strange and ethical, but I would call them.
call me whatever you like but I would most definitely not call them.

Not that easily... if they called me about it that would be different, it was their mistake. call it karma for having such a piece of **** return policy... I'm going under the assumption that you bought it from sears online. if it was from an individual or something my morals might come into play

That's interesting considering you've probably intentionally voided your product warranty by making software mods using roms illegally ported from other devices. An probably side loade d hundreds of apks for which you didn't pay the developer and most likely skimmed from a wares or torrent site, or Applanet.net.
Sound like a huge case of situational ethics to me buddy. Pick a position. If you feel so much guilt about things, delete your xda account and keep it moving.
id let them know, personally. when you start taking an active role in karma, as another stated in this thread, then karma starts taking an active role in your life. ive had way too many run-ins with karma to tempt fate again.
but hey, thats just me.

that's actually not even a valid argument except for installing non-paid for apps.
What you do to a device you own is your choice. You can flash anything you want to it if you choose....as long as you don't expect a warranty replacement if you screw it up. If I want to flash my toaster oven with the firmware from my microwave......more power to me. But when my toaster oven no longer works, it's my fault not the manufacturers.
Now getting a toaster oven you didn't pay for is a totally different argument (the original poster's).
Sorry OP, but it's called theft of a material item. You knew that you didn't pay for it, but are keeping it anyways. Of course, many companies tack on extra charges for services and steal from consumers, so it's a gray area. I guess if you look at it from the standpoint of "business is business" then it's fair. Dunno what to say.
Thanks for the input. All is well. I'm returning the device & will let them figure out what to do. Anyone in the Richmond, VA area looking for a clearance item, check the Virginia Center Commons Sears location later this week.
Good call... You are doing the right thing.... Why are you returning?

It happened to me, I called to ask about my order being placed and available, shortly after I was charged. I had received my pickup email already, so I'm sure if I had picked up the order and said nothing, it would have not been charged.
In a perfect world, when you called to tell them about the error they should have said "we appreciate your honesty and we will not charge you because of it, consider this a gift". You win, and they win as you would be more likely to be a return customer.
I know I messed up by not getting the 5 dollar insurance. I sure am pissed of at myself now. To make matters worse I purchased my triumph on Ebay. lol. Does any cellphone repair store deal with these phones already, I might have to check sometime this week But is there any website where maybe I can purchase a gorilla glass screen replacement. I would gladly take on the repair challenge myself. Thanks everyone! Hopefully someone can help and I would greatly appreciate it!
(Edit) A nice VM chick allowed me to get it insured, surprisingly I still had time. If anyone wants to ill open it up for sure when I receive my new one.... for science!!!
Not to rub salt in the wound but I seen a bigger screen and figured I'd be the first one to break it so I got the insurance. I got mine from Best Buy. Might be a dumb question but will VM warranty it?
I believe BB only warrants the phone usually for 30 days, I'm not to sure. Regarding VM as soon as you sign up, you often receive a text that lets you add on insurance for 5 extra dollars. GET IT!! Because as of now my best hope is to just go to a random repair shop and see if they can even fix it.

http://imgur.com/a/fMIeG Here ya go! Basically the touchscreen still functioned but about 80% of the top screen was not working at all. Then the battery died and it did not want to take a charge anymore. Basically both issues are unrelated it just so happens that Motorola really rushed this thing, and you can tell what a terrible job they did looking at the whole sub-forum. I wish I would have avoided spending 300 bucks and would have grabbed the Optimus V instead, I never hear anything bad about it. And being a college student I cant afford a 100$ monthly plan.
(EDIT) Really looking at this, I don't even know if the glass broke or if the touchscreen did. I don't feel anything on the outside. You guys are the experts, I will gladly open it up for you guys if you want. I just need to buy those tiny screwdrivers.

I thought I read somewhere that VM warrants their phones for a year, no matter where you buy them. I could be wrong, and it could be for manufacturer's defects only. I'll look for the link when I get home.

From the VM site:
http://www.virginmobileusa.com/30-day-guarantee
One-Year Warranty
All mobile phones purchased directly from Virgin Mobile, or one of our authorized resellers, include a one-year warranty from the original equipment manufacturer. If you experience an equipment malfunction, call Virgin Mobile At Your Service at 1-888-322-1122 and we will arrange for a replacement mobile phone.
I seriously doubt that would cover a cracked lcd screen. But I guess it doesn't hurt to try.

Yeah...there it is. The worst that can happen is they laugh at you...but what have you got to lose at this point? Maybe they can at least ship you a heavily discounted one...you never know.
Ouch that really sucks man
Well if all else fails you can always try and repair it your self.
It might cost a bit since some of the newer phones are coming with the lcd and the glass as one unit...
I might be wrong and only need to purchase the glass...
Good luck and hope you well

So I went to a few stores today that sells att phones. I asked everyone in all 5 of the stores about the upcoming Samsung Galaxy Note LTE, noone even knew about it as if it will be coming out 6 years from now -.- noone knew there was one even coming out let alone the name :/ it kind of makes me sad when the consumer knows more then the sales reps. They should train more in my opinion this was just my little experiance for the day just thought I'd share. Anyone else looking forward to the note lte for att?

In-store reps definitely don't know anything. Most reps aren't like us and simply don't care. I usually come across some reps who give out good information about upcoming devices. These reps are always over the phone as they have quick access to the database. Try calling about a general question, talk to them for a bit, and when you're about to end the conversation, pop the question.

Ive sold phones for five years in three locations. I can tell you most of us know about phones as soon as they are rumors. As someone said earlier if we don't sell it we really don't care. To be honest if someone asked me about the note I would kinda just try to end it fast unless we were doing pre orders as asking me about a phone I cant sell isn't making me commission. If it is slow though I will talk about announced upcoming phones for quite awhile. Also most consumers walk in and say i want android or iphone not asking specifics

That's understandable. Wouldn't it be better to actually care and inform a consumer of an upcoming device? By informing them of said device, they might wait for it and pay the $200 with the contract. I understand you want to make some money as well but I guess from a personal standpoint I would help the person that cares as much as I do.

I even tried bestbuy lol and the guys words were "our phone tech isn't here today he will be here tomorrow from 12-6" I live 40 mins away from anything so its not in my best choice to go back but anywho I go to the same att retailer when I buy my phones. They know me there and come at me quick because I don't just come in to buy a cheap pantech crossover I'm there with cash in hand and buy phones straight up xD so they are always willing to help. When I went in to buy my Sony xperia play 4g I handed her my iPhone to Bluetooth my contacts, she looked at my iPhone and her exact words were "what the F is this" it was running wp7 xD Haha but in all seriousness I think someone should be hired in the certain area. It'd be like hiring me to sell cars or ovens when I know nothing about them, I feel like they just hire anyone :/ I went to buy a computer once and the worker argued for 30 minutes that 512mb was a gigabyte :/ I shook my head and took my business elsewhere I just don't understand... sometimes I wish everyone cared about a phone as much as we do... instead of "as long as I can listen to music watch YouTube and look at porn, I don't care what it looks like or what it does" :'( I honestly just want to teach everyone for free so I don't feel so smart and dumb at the same time. anyone else feel that way?

I agree. I've perused tablets in Best Buy and after engaging the nearest 'team member' for less than 3 minutes, I realize that I know more than they do.
It's the same experience when going to the auto parts store. There are some people who can carry on informed conversation, but 90% are the type who watch fast & furious movies in awe, and know nothing about repair or maintenance or they can only look up part numbers.
Basically, lower your expectations.
This is why I get mad when I've tried many times to get a job in those kind of places to no avail because I don't seem to have any big time qualifications to my record yet if I go into any outlet store and begin talking about phones, the sales rep looks at me like I'm making up things or shocked I know anything.

I have had similar experience with applying for jobs at auto parts stores. The 'now hiring' sign is displayed for several months and the staff changes about every 3 weeks, but I never get called. For a while there was an older woman who not only knew nothing about cars but she also needed help to use the computer program to look up parts.
I finally realized that these people will work for less money than I will because I actually know what I am doing. It really is sad that people with any level of technical or mechanical ability don't actually work at the retail level because they can't get enough money.
And don't get me started on the people who work at Home Depot . .
I have no past work experiance. I'm 19 years old have been the "bad" kid because I used to be a "black magic" hacker I've gotten introuble from schools best buys and targets because of it but now I'm past all that I do phones tablets anything mobile. There is never a time when I'm in best buy that I'm back in the computer/phone area and usually an older citizen is talking to a sales Rep about which one is better and the sales Rep says well product A is $1299 with 4gb ram touchscreen is way better then product B $899 8gb ram and so on but they go by the price as the sales Rep was walking her to the register I kindly walked up and said "hello ma'am I noticed you were interested in two different so-so" the sales Rep called the manager and had me kicked out for costing him the sale xD but they wont hire me? I have long hair and look like a "druggie" I don't do drugs don't have tattoos or metal on my body but yet they hire people who are clueless

I don't mean to overstep the rules of polite conversation but you may wish to think about your image. It isn't fair that we judge based on looks, but it happens.
*Edit - When I say looks I also means assumptions that people will make of others based on their prejudices. -*End Edit
Most recently, I applied for a job repairing projectors. During the interview they kept asking me about how well I would transition to an office environment. Completely Ridiculous! I would be working in the workshop not the office and I happened to be better dressed than any of my interviewers.
Basically, some people cannot see past their little world or people they can understand.
Man Verizon store by me they don't know anything. And they are jerks as well. Went to upgrade my moms phone and said she wouldn't get unlimited data with her Droid 3 so I just bought it from newegg called up and boom she got her unlimited data. Never going back to that store again. Hate how now you have to bring phone to store to get replaced.

I have read countless threads on this subject that range from just bend over and take it its not that bad to I'm selling my phone as soon as I get. There is a simple way of showing our dislike of the locked bootloader. It only takes a minute and it will get Verizons attention. it's not a smack on the head with a bag of nails but it will sting the big red bully enough to eventually act.
Go to the verizon mobile web site "my verizon" click upgrade device pick any phone click quick look click read reviews click write a reveiw and the phone you currently have wille come up and ask you to write a reveiw. Give it the lowest amount of stars Most importantly be polite, factual and don't bash Verizon (save that for the XDA forums)
This is the most efficient way a few can get their point driven home in an acceptable and respectable manner. When all the phones on its web site have only 2 or 3 stars they will definately be effected. This is the most effective civil way of letting Verizon know they are doing their customers wrong.
What do you guys think?
Press thanks if you think this will help...and because it boosts my XDA cred
Yes at this point Verizon needs a wake up call and realize out not for its they would not have food on the table. Every one of these ways people come up with help.

you're not going to matter to Verizon. Not trying to be a **** but the amount of customers that want an unlocked bootloader is minimal compaired to their total customer base. Yes it sucks balls and i feel for you verizon guys, but there isn't much you are going to be able to do about it.
Best option would be to call their customer service and tell them you want to cancel your account and when they ask why just say you guys refuse to unlock bootloaders so i am taking my business elsewhere. With the phone being new to the market and in high demand i would just sell it on ebay or craigslist for 500 and switch to a different carrier.
When is the developer edition of the VZW SGS3 going to be available? I think a lot of people are trying to sell their VZ S3's on eBay for $549 or $600 to buy it outright from Samsung. As long as you don't take advantage of VZ's subsidized pricing on a new device you can keep your unlimited data plan when you activate it. I'm considering that option.

If all the phones on their site suddenly had only two or three stars trust me it will affect verizon. Phones with low amounts of ratings could be affected by just one or two bad reviews. It is the biggest impact we can make with very little time invested. Calling in returning phones and all the other ideas are also excellent just not the best bang for the buck. I plan on doing all of the above.

Anyone who is going to be researching a phone isn't going to go solely off the service providers website or at least they should be smarter than that. Also if they wanted they could easily just delete all the 1 star reviews.
You guys are no fun, either that or you are shills for Verizon LOL its always better to do nothing when done wrong or when faced with adversity
P.S. feel free to hit the donate button, gotta recoup for the hit im going to take selling my my S3 (they sould have named it the FU2). The hit I'm going to take cancelling my contract early, and a couple tubes of anal ease
(VERIZON left me a little raw) :crying::silly:
I think this is a great idea. Will it work? Maybe, maybe not, but it doesn't hurt to try. I think it's definitely worth a try.
Might as well give it a shot
I think this is a great idea! I think that not that many people give ratings anyway so even if a small number of us do it, it should have an impact. And I do think people might not read the review but they do look at the rating

I will leave negative reviews I am not sure it will help but I I am in to make the effort. I have been getting back at them (verizon) in my own ways like running my office and most my neighborhood of some extra lines my business account has with unlimited data in 4G areas
Sent from my SCH-I535 using xda app-developers app
Well since there arent many reviews leaving a bunch of negative ones would have a pretty big impact
I think this idea is "awesome"! No it's not the one thing that's going to sway VZW's politics but hopefully one of many to curb their abuse of the consumer....

its diffidently a better idea then sitting on your azz

Possible lawsuit against Verizon
I ride bike with two gentlemen who are members of a large law firm. Very nice guys considering they're lawyers  Had to put that in there for when they read this...hi guys!
They informed me that if Verizon does not post the negative reviews there are grounds for legal action (it took then about six paragraphs twenty minutes and a whole bunch of what I think was Latin to explain that to me but I got the jist of most of it) There are a few guidelines keep the reviews factual polite and dont bash Verizon. They offered thier services calling it "a very high profile endeavor"
They also reminded me Al Capone didn't go to jail for being a gangster he went to jail for tax evasion
Keep fighting the good fight

Nails in their coffin boys!
Pour it on the more they delete the stronger our case becomes, fortunately for us their disclaimer " {} I agree with terms of service " has more loopholes than their software :good:
P.S. keep an eye open for a different disclaimer
While your still pi$$ed off about Verizon being such a bully check out these other threads....I have nothing to do with them just linked them because they are ways of venting our Big V rage.

I suggest buy a $0.99 cent phone from your phone company like the Samsung Galaxy S2. That way you will still be getting a quality phone but for a very cheap price.
Why would you want a fake chinese phone? Honestly, for big purchases, it's probably better if you deal with businesses within the country you live in. What happens if you need service for your fake phone in the future? I doubt whomever you buy the fake phone from would be of much help and therefore, you'll just end up losing however much money you paid for that phone. Get a legit phone.
