Is I/O issue real?

Existing Facts
1. USB data transfer inconsistency i.e. hangs relatively frequently when trying to transfer multiple files at once
2. System slows down/almost freezes when installing many applications
3. System slows down/freezes when download many files [supposedly with torrent, but I never confirmed this]
All make sense to point finger at the issue with I/O... But one exception I encounter today...
Case Report
Based on the application recommendations on this forum, for the first time I installed Solid Explorer (File Manager), which by the way is awesome. I was in lasy mood today and knowing it would be problematic but decided to use AirDroid to transfer some files. Initially couple hundred megabytes. Surprisingly, it went smooth. So now I tried like 500MB. Still no problem, and was pretty quick. So now, I actually started to upload like 1GB files (20+ files) at once using AirDroid. While this is taking a place, I realized one set of files uploaded were already complete but I placed in the wrong folder. So I opened Solid Explorer and moved these files WHILE other several hundreds megabyte of files are still being transferred over AirDroid. Basically, I noticed ZERO lag using solid explorer.
Analysis
In above scenario, there has to be intense writing to the disc taking place as I was essentially downloading bunch of files over the WIFI (though it was technically within my network, it should not matter). Sure the file move is just a little tagging so not by any means CPU/GPU or intense process but ZERO lag seems a surprise.
Conclusion
So the issue above does exist but may be it is not as simple as "Flash drive writing is slow." In fact, if anything to me this scenario defends against such conclusion and gives me a hope it is some sort of software/kernel handling USB transfer, or torrent download in comparison to AirDroid application.
So if not anything, I recommend AirDroid for the file transfer from you computer until the issue gets fixed.

Any chance you could try it with other file explorers, too? I wonder if it's just something goofy with Asus software?

Maybe you just received a good unit. My old tPrime could torrent well at 1 bar wifi at 1 megabyte per second and play graphically intensive games at the same time.

There's no major problems with this tablet.
Most of people here are telling everyone about problems, let's say about 100 in total.
And let's say about 10000 tablets already got sold in US, nothing 32&64 gb.
So that's only 0.01% of them are broken one way or another.
That's really good margin for any product.
Unfortunately for those people, but way within standards for Asus.
I had $100 Monster surge protector suddenly die from brand new heater. I bough $25 Belkin, and it's working perfectly for 2 yrs.
Most complains I been reading about saying about that you can't do heavy tasks while tablet is busy copying big files, so what???
This is a tablet, NOT A SERVER.
Copy all your music and video and just use a tablet, it's almost perfect in every other way.

That's actually 1%, but who's counting
While I love the tab, the IO issues are obvious and easily reproduced, not to say that some software doesn't work better than others when dealing with file access. I have little doubt asus will address soon.

Yes, you right, but still very small margin for serious defects.
There's almost no I/o issues during normal usage.
There's no reason to use a tablet while you copying you huge video library or something else.
Other then that you really don't see any lag during normal usage.
On my cell I use a program fast reboot. No root needed, it shuts down all appear almost like hot reboot and you start over, when you have too many background apparel opened.

People, ASUS put a microsd slot on this tablet for a reason. Don't let the slot go to waste.
I do agree that ASUS should pimp out the IO though.

To add to that... until very recently, you couldnt sync the iPad (or other iOS device) and use it at the same time. That was done for a reason; there were hacks around it for jailbroken users, but there was a noticeable performance hit. Even some android devices unmount the storage from the device to prevent issues like this. I'm not saying there isnt a serious underlying issue, but most of the cases I've heard of involve atypical use.

So you're saying that the standard, builtin browser that throws out ANR messages, rolls over and dies at the simplest web page is "almost perfect in every other way"?
Yes, it's a tablet, but it's also not 1994. If I want to browse the web while downloading the new BF3 Armored Kill 1080p 60fps trailer (the awesomeness in that video...) I shouldn't be able to? Streaming video while having the audio sent through a bluetooth headset shouldn't be possible (go on, give it a try)? Give me a ****ing break!
Yes, ARM and x86 architectures aren't directly comparable, but we're still talking about a 4-core (well, 5) CPU with 1 GB RAM and a flash drive running a now fairly mature mobile operating system.
This is a $600 product (even more for those of us in the EU or Asia), we're entitled to complain when said product at times performs like a $60 dollar Chinese tablet instead.
Also, anyone admitting to using Monster products pretty much have their credibility thrown out the window immediately.

You pull those numbers from where the sun never shines, and since they are pure fantasy from you, you invalidate your theoretical observation with them. Opinions are like asses: everyone has (at least) one.

Some programs mask it by using averages -- and even projection -- so you can't really trust the eye. Total Commander, however, actually shows the file transfer halting every now and then (on .21 firmware, at about 170 MB chunk intervals on full speed copy).

Hahaha! Someone ups your marging by a factor of 10 -- a failure rate of 1% is a lot in a modern and supposedly properly Q&A'd device, by the way. (Again, your personal opinion on the matter notwithstanding.) Almost no I/O issue under normal use? Have you actually installed any app from the Play Store? And, in *my* personal opinion (yes, I have an ass as well), if you provide multitasking capability in an OS, it should be functional and workable. Funny how you perceive no reason to multitask, because I have lots of them.

Again, just installing something from the Play Store could hang your device for up to a full minute, whereas installing the same app on every other Android device I have used/owned/seen from a distance doesn't impact performance to the same extent.
I love the tablet, and have a lot of pleasure from its many uses in my particular case. It is not a crusade against the TF700 or ASUS to point towards these issues, although I must admit it is hard to not get a little bit angry at the people that defend their point of view that there simply is not problem at all, eeing that some users in here -- myself included; I've had it since over two weeks before retail -- have had the unit far longer than they have and have had (and taken) ample time to fool around with the device and share their observations. If your unit doesn't exhibit any issues and functions perfectly, well, congratulations! I would never sell that particular unit, and would be extremely saddened when it ultimately fails, for NO DEVICE EVER CONCEIVED BY MAN has been without its faults. To put them into context, fine, I'm with you, but to flush them down the imaginary problem toilet because of your opinion, based on imaginary data (like fantasized sales figures, LOL), going against harder observations from other people... No, that makes my blood pressure rise.

I really think the tablet is lacking a exhaust port with a low power fan to push some hot air out of the device.

This is a tablet not a laptop. I wouldn't have bought it if it required a fan and exhaust ports for proper temperature control. That would be almost as ridiculous as cellphone with a fan...

All it need is some thermal control on the processor.
The quad-cores can hit 80C.. that's the real issues here.
It's not safe so to speak... The heat does accumulate after a while it will be too hot to even touch it.

I consider downloading an app form the play store and trying to continue to use my tablet normal usage. That said I am not that concerned about the IO issues, as I believe ASUS will fix them soon.
I also do not consider rebooting regularly to clean memory or kill poorly written software a valid argument in any way. That went the way of windows 98.
Most of the issues with android are due to poorly written software and in some case poorly written modules in the OS or poor mutations done by the mfgr. But on a device that really can't run another viable OS, they go hand and hand and it's really unacceptable for device manufacturers to point at the OS as an excuse.

If I created confusion here, I apologize. I did not mean to say "look my tablet is perfect and everyone else got short sticks" I do recognize the issues exist, but I wanted share my experience based on the specific scenario. This particular scenario at least to me speak against potential hardware issue that everyone were concerned about i.e. Flash drive being too slow, or perhaps Tegra 3 chip set cannot handle data writing and do anything else because clearly while AirDroid is receiving 1GB+ data with relatively quick speed without causing any noticeable delay on the system.

Despite all the issues raised/listed here (including myself..), Infinity still remains the best Android Tablet at least by review sites. Here is another 9/10 score review, just released yesterday.

Very detailed review.
I am posting this so for those who feel like seeing too many negative posts, and doubting the infinity, there are certainly lots of positives on this unit. There are other tablets out there including Galaxy Note 10.1 and iPad series. They all have pros and cons.
My take is simply depends on your use, and with so many reviews giving such high score on infinity simply speaks average people would enjoy infinity over any other Android tablet on the market right now.
For me, Galaxy Note 10.1 was the biggest contender (and owned for three weeks). I ended up choosing/returning back to Infinity because Full HD is such a huge component and something I appreciate every second use (browsing web, reading ebooks, watching lecture videos). In return, I don't get as perfect stability as Galaxy Note but ANR/FC every other day is something I can tolerate. Extra 10 seconds of heavy Flash site loading I can waste. And unfortunately I can't write as fast as I type.

I agree, now that we have so many choices there never really is one great one that is good for everyone. Each person needs to start doing some of their own thinking and choose what works best for them. This is probably why we see the isheep being so driven to CrApple products because they can't make their own decisions they would rather have CrApple do it for them. So they buy whatever they put out not realizing maybe something else cheaper is a better fit for what they need. This is my late night epiphony.

The only thing I miss about the infinity is the FHD.. But Id rather have a stable machine, so it was a sacrifice I was willing to take. Bluetooth connection works so I can connect to my phone and have internet, no light bleeds, no lag on apps, class 10 micro sd 64 gb in Exfat is read, speakers are awesome. The Spen is pretty awesome, I take notes and I use the handwriting feature that gets translated to font and it keeps up with me even while writing fast and my handwriting gets sloppy. The best thing is my sloppy writing is translated into fonts and when I can easily switch back and draw figures,pictures, or diagram while note taking, the infinity cant compete with that. At this point Im happy with the note.. but I do have almost 2 months to test this beast out and see if the infinity if able to iron out its quirks with the JB update if it ever arrives within my return window..

The new JB builds in the Dev section literally make my infinity fly

With all the fancy specs, but in reality, the Infinity is a disappointment product OUT OF THE BOX. It's not worth $600 due to many issues, including user experiences and things that are not working properly. Hopefully the Jelly Bean could bring its life back to standard.

Why are you turning this in to yet ANOTHER 10.1 vs Infinity thread? There are enough of those about already.
On topic - Nice balanced review with plenty of pictures and details. In the month I've had my Infinity I haven't had any ANRs and the only app that crashes is Skype which I really can't explain, very random. Still very pleased with my purchase and looking forward to JB!

Surprisingly (in good sense), I have noticed this unit (third one) is much stable. I haven't seen ANR since firmware reset, which I had to do since suddenly I could no longer update/install some applications from the Google Play. I had one stock browser sudden close but this happened even on Galaxy Note.
I wonder if at all this time I had two defective units, or simply turning off the bloatware was the magic needed.
In any event, I can now say I love Infinity.

Should I buy one?

I currently have a Motorola Xoom and was thinking of selling it off and upgrading to a transformer infinity.
Looking around this seems to currently be the best android tablet and I love the idea of the dock keyboard. I have a keyboard for my Xoom but it means I have to prop the xoom up on something to be able to use it lol!
The infinity looks like a very impressive piece of kit, but I am just wondering what people's views are?
I am quite attached to my old Xoom, even though it's not the prettiest or lightest tablet around it's been worth its weight in gold and has worked with everything I have thrown at it and he battery life has also been very good. I've got my old Xoom rooted and running Jelly bean so I was wondering if the infinity was also a good solid device?
The only thing that I find annoying with my xoom is it's weight... its like carrying a brick sometimes and it's a little to heavy to hold with one hand

if you just read around the forum here, you will find all the information you need to make your decision.
as for what i think, i really like it. the new JB update has make it run a lot smoother and the dock works wonderfully. only thing i would see that would hold you back would be the build. not quality per say (although it does seem to be an issue for some) but the fact that the xoom is built like a brick. after going from such a sturdy tablet, any and all other tablets feel pretty flimsy so that will be something you need to judge for yourself.

I had xoom at one point, and felt heavy as well. Despite the difference is only ~200g, it is significant enough to notice. In any event, Infinity is indeed for me the best tablet available at the moment. Just make sure to get it from a place where you can potentially exchange as unfortunately quality control issue exist with ASUS.

For the reasons you listed - possibly yes. However take into account that while it might be the " best android tablet", it suffers from i/o issues and the last time I had so much stuttering and response lag was when I had a Motorola defy running 2.1... and this is supposed to be the top end tablet with JB.

I just bought one (literally, today), and I'm already regretting it. I simply can't live with the stuttering and choppyness of the browsers this thing provides. It's terrible. Probably returning mine to the store.

I was looking forward to getting a lighter tablet, the bulkiness and thickness of the Xoom is starting to get to me... It feels like an armoured tank! lol
I wonder if there is still stuttering and choppyness with custom ROMS? I guess I'll have to have a ready through these boards to find out some more before I decide.

Is it possible to get one locally close to home?
Maybe you can buy it try it.
My Infinity has been pretty much a good experience.
I'm not a nit-picker though.
Some folks have gotten some real nasty disappointing units.
There's plenty of good along with bad if you search these forum pages.
Check the Newegg and Amazon reviews for a little more input.

Who knows what that guy has going but most people are quite satisfied with browser experience. Especially now that Project butter is running for the Infinity. Just go to test drive it for yourself. Then you will know the answer to what your looking for.

I see this posted a lot and it's true with most browsers. That said I run opera and get smooth performance with it. I used it on my xoom when everyone complained about stuttering with the same result. when I used my xoom exclusively we had pretty much the same complaints. Unfortunately the opera team has yet to scale the url bar up to the infinity resolution yet so the text is tiny.

I was starting to miss my Xoom (i gave it to my father) about 3 weeks after i got the infinity. All the bugs and lag were getting on my nerves. But with the two recent updates, things have gotten better.

It's not all bad. It's got a cool design, it's light, sturdy.. got some powerful specs running under the hood, seems to be able to handle heating well, great camera, the best screen ever etc.. BUT - as great as those features are, I just can't get over how non responsive everything is. Any website I try to open on the default browser takes 3-4 secs to respond, some sites cause the browser to ANR, or it would appear to be displaying a site smoothly and then it freezes for a couple of seconds while you're trying to scroll; or switching between apps with the task manager, sometimes it's smooth as butter like on my S3, sometimes you can see how much it struggles; even going over the different settings menus makes it stutter. Not to mention the delay you get trying to flip the tablet from vertical to landscape..... it really bothers me.
I'm going to see if I can get a replacement and try out a different unit, maybe mine came from a bad batch at the factory, who knows. Maybe it actually runs smooth and consistently so for other people and what I'm experiencing is a faulty model. But if these issues are common then I would advise to stay away from the tf700 until Asus has it fixed (or sadly abandons it and retries with a new tablet).

To be honest with you, I don't think exchanging for another unit will give you a better experience. What you have described is pretty much the standard performance of the TF700. The fact is that Tegra 3 is not capable of driving a full HD screen (we are still stuck with single-channel memory in 2012!!!) and thus the stuttering. The poor I/O also makes things worse. Even the JB update cannot really make the browser free from ANR, and simple tasks such as downloading files in the background will make your tf700 unresponsive. If you want full HD screens, stay far away from Tegra 3. Snapdragon S4 Pro is the way to go.

Sounds like a mixed bag then, I think I shall have to try one out first for sure...just have to find somewhere selling one locally, or maybe order one on line and try it out for a few days, if it doesn't work out I could always send it back.
I just love the design with the attachable keyboard, and I am really looking for something a lot lighter than my Xoom. I did originally look at the Transformer Prime, and then I heard about the infinity.
I am sure the Infinity is great device, the Xoom also has a bad reputation but I have had no problems with it whatsoever.
I think a shopping trip is due today to see if I can find an Infinity in stores =)

The stock browser is bugged. That's common knowledge. Other browsers work just fine without hanging. One program having an issue is not the fault of the tablet if the rest works fine.
As for the ANr. Usually you (used to) get them when an app takes a while to load. Most of those times, it works again when you get the popup. Since JB I have only had one App Not Responding error, and that was a Live Wallpaper which Playstore listed as incompatible. That was my own fault, not the Tf's.
I've not had a single speed or performance issue. Nothing lags, everything runs fast. There are some very unlucky people here, and some very lucky ones.
The only negative I've found is that developers (not the guys here) are so obsessed with the SGS3 that there's hardly anything to be found for the Tegra 3 and the massive resolution of the TF700.

I must disagree with your point about ANR. It is true that the apps will usually work again after those pop-ups, but those ANR messages should not be there in the first place. They are annoying and make me less confident about my tablet's reliability. To be 100% honest, the Infinity is the most crash-prone Android devices I have ever used. You might not believe me, but my Sensation on ICS is a lot more stable than the Infinity, and less lags at well.
For the lack of development, I guess it is expected, given the high price tag of the Infinity and the fact that it is not a popular model.

Actually, the stock browser is the least buggy for me. Can't use chrome or dolphine because they stutter so much on the tf700.
I'm happy to hear you're experiencing a fast and smooth tablet as it suggests that getting a replacement will solve it.
Either we have different definitions to "lag-free" or Asus's quality control on the tablet is so meh that its smoothness and stability vary wildly from unit to unit.

Well I decided not to go for the infinity in the end, it sure looks good but my with my budget restraints I think it's a little out of my league at the moment
I've opted for the Prime as it was a considerable lot less... at least it's lighter than my Xoom.

I absolutely love my Infinity. ASUS does have quality control issues. Make sure you buy from a vendor that will allow returns if the device is defective. Mine came with a SMALL amount of light bleed, two minor scratches on the back plate, and the screen pops out of the bezel a TINY bit over the camera. These issues are annoying and it took me some time to accept them, but they don't hinder my device's performance. I would definitely recommend purchasing the Infinity, but make sure you get a good one.

Buy or Not Buy?

I'm shopping for a new tablet but before I drop $700+ (tablet & goodies) I have a few questions.
Have the I/O issues been resolved?
Seen multiple posts on multiple reviews about case cracking problems, especially when using the dock/keyboard. is this limited or a real issue people are seeing?
overall opinion? Im not buying apple anything.. so if not this tablet, which one? i want 1920 res, 64gb x 64gb storage (sd), hdmi out.. basically all the goodies.
money isnt a factor in my consideration. i want a stable product that can hold up to daily use.
appreciate your comments.

fixable but voids warranty. and then there's the poor quality control. I suggest buying from a place where you can return the tablet if you get a bad one.
I really really want to like this tablet. just I'm scared I'll get a bad one :/ (I'll be buying overseas as local Asus only distributes the one with dock and I don't need one)

Buy it from best buy if u can. They honor the manufacturer warranty for a year so u can swap it out if it breaks or gets discontinued for a new model.

i dont want to buy something that i have to plan in advance for it to have problems. i dont need a tablet, i want one.. so theres no rush. it sounds like this tablet really isnt worth the money.. on paper it sounds amazing though.

Yea a single speaker on the right lower back side. It's am awesome tablet, I like it a lot. Still a lot better then most of the tablets out now.

I was a original Transformer Prime owner and that thing was a nightmare! I had random reboots, screen tearing, CRAP Wifi, Non existent GPS, force closes up the ass. It as horrible. Best Buy let me exchange it after the Prime was discontinued and I got the Infinity. I have had almost NO issues with this thing. I cant remember the last time this thing reboot on me, if ever. Wifi and GPS are great. When Jelly Bean came out, they keyboard lagged a bit but ASUS quickly came out with a patch update and that was resolved. I don't really know what the I/O issue is...dont seem any issues. I use my tablet for some gaming, browsing the net, gmail/email, music and youtube and its been nothing but great for me. Honestly, Buy the tablet, if you dont like it...return it within the 30 day period. I highly recommend this tablet over the Ipads and most android tablets. If you dont like it, check out the nexus 10...

You tap some link in the browser or you want to scroll and nothing happens for several seconds.
"Browser is not responding, do you want to close it?"
Sometimes it also closes by itself because of some unfixed bug.
Of course that does not happen all the time, otherwise I would have thrown my TF700 out of the window already, but it happens too often to not notice. And that is already after unlocking (voiding warranty) and installing CleanROM. Trying to use some Data-to-SD solution failed because the MicroSD interface is unreliable (at least with my SanDisk 32 GB UHS-1 card) and hangs after some time or produces lots of I/O errors in the log.
Do not buy this tablet if you want a mostly problem-free device.

The nexus 10 is a decent tablet.. but the lack of external ports bothers me. No sd card.. and i believe no hdmi. both deal breakers for me. ive read that the toshiba excite 10 is doing pretty well (and has amazing sound).
ill probably buy this tablet, i didnt see any upcoming asus tablets anytime soon. saw rumors of a 13ish inch tablet, but no date listed.

I was prepared to unlock and void warranty but if doing that doesn't really fix the IO issues, I think Apple will get my money again. I've looked at the Huawei FHD but the lack of community support is a downside. if ever the tab has problems, then I'm stuck. I've looked at the Acer A700 but it's looks cheap and the lower CPU speed is a negative of course.

anything quad core and faster then 1.2 is fine with me.. a 1920 screen is important as is storage. just not a lot of options on the table there.
might just buy a nexus for now and gift it when something really nice comes around. im not interested in a windows or a ios option at this time.

I have the 700, prime, and nexus 10. My prime after latest JB is actually quite useful now. Rarely I get any ANR nowadays but still do happen from time to time. Theres still def some IO issue still. The 700 on JB I find not as smooth as the Prime and I never get any ANR but it does lag some when I'm trying to do things too fast like open a bunch of stuff one after another. I have to let it catch up. From what I hear about putting custom rom is it will eliminate most IO but not completely. The nexus 10 however is a beast. No lag, no ANRs, I can open a lot of apps and def no IO issue. The only thing I dont like is the screen is LCD which makes it sort of dull looking since the black levels arent as good as the Asus. Also lack of keyboard dock which extends battery and memory and makes typing easy. Charge times are too long with micro usb.
For basic browsing, watching movies, casual gaming, then the tf700 is a good device. Better contrast screen and I can barely tell the difference in sharpness between it and the nexus 10. But I think the keyboard dock and its features is what sets it apart from the nexus 10.

Actually it is truly amazing. The vast majority are flawless...most people that post non-development related stuff here are posting complaints...looking for sympathy or corroboration, or better yet, solutions.
Unlocked, rooted and ROMed, this is the fastest tablet I've ever used. That includes most that are not in my signature as well as the ones I own.

I found a 32GB Champagne tablet on Adorama for $499 WITH keyboard. Just recently posted a new thread in the General section with a link if anyone's interested. I paid over $100 more at Best Buy for a Grey one that I'll be returning.

If you take the risk and root it, then you should get this tablet. If you expect a problem free experience from stock ROM, stay away. I only use my tf700 for browsing, reading books, YouTube.. and it's so sluggish and unresponsive. You tap the address bar, lag until the keyboard pops up. You then decide to go back to home screen, 2-3 secs until it registers your choice, then a couple more second to redraw the home screen. This doesn't happen all the time but even occasionally is way way too much. Also forget about doing anything while you're downloading or updating apps, it basically freezes the tablet.
The latest update improved things somewhat but not enough. I was planning to hold off getting clean ROM until after the rumored upcoming 4.2 update, but this is so annoying I'm losing my patience.

Just wondering if you happen to have a nexus 10 as I dont see it in your signature. The nexus 10 is a beast IMO compared to my nexus 7 with cleanrom. Games are super fluid and I can run a lot of things in the background and it doesn't really slow down. I assume tf700 with cleanrom is going to be similar to nexus 7 with cleanrom.

[Q] Transformer Infinity vs Note 10.1

hi, im thinking about exchanging the Note 10.1 that i got a few days ago for the Transformer Infinity.
I went with the Note 10.1 because i couldn't find any problems with it when when looking over reviews for it, opposed to the Infinity where i was reading I/O issues, browser freezing up and other small things.
Now the reason im thinking about exchanging for the Infinity is because of the screen resolution. on the Note 10.1 when i first turned it on, it really hurt my eyes, and i thought it might just be because i had a headache, but i slept off the headache and started using it again, and low and behold my eyes started hurting again. has anyone had this experience before because of the screen resolution?
another question i have, are what are the major differences between the 10.1 and TF Infinity?

For pure screen resolution then yes it is much much better. Bloke that sits next to me at work has the note with the s-pen. He keeps commenting how fatastically sharp my screen is. Where as I keep leching over hs s-pen and all the wonderful tricks it can do when he is taking notes in meetings......

Overall the Infinity is solid- however- performance is heavily impacted by running certain apps, including many of the built-in apps. I have aggressively disabled unneeded apps and removed the Facebook client- which is a memory and performance hog. In addition, I periodically clear browser cache and have switched to Boat Browser, as the built in Android browser shows considerable lag.
It may also be helpful to avoid apps that employ adware- which is a large number of both paid and free apps.
In summary, the TF700t is a device that forces you to think about ways to maintain performance. While most of these methods are common sense and would help any device's performance- on the 700 they are essential. On the other hand, when coupled with the Asus keyboard- the device is extremely versatile and does in fact bridge the tablet-netbook gap. How effectively depends on one's requirements. It is probably superior to the Surface RT- and for the price, far more versatile than an IPad- or Galaxy Note 10.1- though I am curious about multi-window..

Yes, I've had several cases where a low resolution caused a migraine. Mainly I get this from old screens, but I've had it while using my classmate's Galaxy Tab 2, as well.
As an artist I was originally leaning towards the Note because it works with the Wacom pens, but I went with the TF700 because of the USB port and screen resolution, as well as the dock with it's extra battery. I know there's docks for the Note, too, but not with a battery. But really, the USB and screen were the dealbreaker for me.
Yes, the TF700 can be a bit sluggish if you do too much at once. But it all comes down to performance management.

How is the web browsing experience. Id be mostly using it for web browsing, watching movies, social networking, reading books and comics and reading articles online, its hard to read with this screen for a long period of time

The beloved Sdbags (one of the replyers above) made browsing a true joy!
It's blazing fast and scrolling, zooming etc go very smooth and fast.
In general he made the tf700 much more snappy and a real top-notch device (the way it should have been in the first place)

could you please go into more detail on how he made it a much better device please?

Browsing on the stock browser can be a bit laggish. But to be frank half the time it's faster than the one on my phone. There are speed-up fixes for it that require rooting, and other browsers are quicker, too. Chrome is fast, but has no Flash support.
On occasion there's a "Browser Not Responding" error. Whent he error pops up, the browser is already working again. This has gotten much better with recent updates.
Watching movies: It has some issues with full HD .mkv's (bluray), but I watch most films and series on my tab in the train in other codecs, works fine.
Can't answer the social networking one, I don't do that. Twitter has no issues, I don't use Facebook.
Reading books, I use Moon+ Reader, the IPS+ setting is a lifesaver. I can read my books in full sunlight. I read most magazines in .pdf format and the occasional comic, haven't had any issues. I use Perfect Viewer, it also reads PDF with a plugin (both free).
Articles online, haven't had any issues. I do most my Uni work on it, so.. *shrugs*

so the problems iv'e read about the browser freezing are just with the stock im guessing, once you root it and install different roms on it, it doesn't have those problem anymore?

I personally haven't done this, but everyone else is very positive about it.

ok thank you every much, i think i might exchange my note 10.1 for the Infinity now, i have the 30 day exchange at best buy, i just cant stand the screen on the Note, i used it for 2 hours and my eyes are throbbing after the first hour.
The main thing that kept me from getting the Infinity was the fact that the browser froze during a review i watched, and then i looked it up and lots of people said the browser had problems
