Asus Transformer TF201 vs TF300 - General Topics

I'm not sure which one to get? I heard the TF300 is plastic and TF201 is metal back?
Anyway which one would you guys recommend, the TF201 is about 500 and TF300 is 400 brand new in major retailers, any major differences?

Not much difference between the two in exception of their back cover.. The TF300 had a plastic cover so it would not affect its GPS and radio (this is a major problem on TF201 because of its metal cover)
I'd say get the TF300
Swyped from my GT-i9100

Transformer Prime (TF201) has a Super IPS+ Display, while the TF300 has an IPS Display. Also the Keyboard Dock on the Prime (TF201) last 18 hours while the TF300 last 12 hours (correct if im wrong). Yes the prime has WiFi issues and GPS issues. Honestly, the TF700 will be a better choice but if you need to choose between these two then get the TF300.

Never had problems with WiFi and GPS on 201. I use WiFi extensively

[Q] would it be a good idea to trade my tf300 for the prime?

i was offered a transformer prime for my tf300t. would it be a good idea to trade? what would be the pros vs cons besides no gps?
I wouldn't recommend it, unless the Prime is a recent serial, like one beginning with C3 or C4, and you have the option of return if something doesn't work.
Earlier serial primes had more problems.
If you have a working TF300 why gamble?
Pro's - much better screen on the prime, at least on paper. I don't really see that much difference in the real world. Primes screen is 600 nits max brightness, thats almost twice as bright as the TF300 - I find this somewhat useful outdoors and in dark movie scenes. Pro- bigger battery in the prime.
Con: Flaky wireless behavior in older serials. I have a C4 Serial and my WiFi BT and GPS all work fine.
Also, the Prime is more durable obviously because of the metal back. The TF300 is so thin, if you press on the plastic back, the screen will distort.

I was the owner of tf201 and that device is a huge mistake from Asus. C3 serial... HDMI is not working..GPS is useless, WIFI strenght is a shame... I have done: return it to store and now i have tf300.... Great tablet..WIFI is 100% better than on tf201.Everything is corected nicelly..
Keep the 300 its just as good as the prime
I have both and my TF201 doesn't have any issues that bother me...I'd still keep the 300. Just for the potential issues of wi-fi/gps.
There's a reason why he wants your tf300 better than his prime

Would stay with the tf300. There are so many primes with big problems. Send mine back and bought the TF300. So stuck with it
My advice, keep your 300. I went through a handful of Primes and all of them had some "issue" (aside from the GPS and Wifi) I finally got fed up, sold it and bought a TF300. The only thing that I can say is that the screen on the prime had better contrast and sharpness. But unless you see them side by side you won't even know the difference. The 300 is a great tablet, everything works and I'm glad I swapped the Prime for it.

[Q] Which tablet should I buy?

Okay, so after doing some research I've finally decided to buy a tablet. I'm stuck between the Transformer Prime (tf201) and the Transformer Pad (tf300/t) because they are both stock ICS (which I like) and quad-core. I know that the awesome Transformer Infinity is coming out soon but I don't feel like spending that much money on a tablet. I've heard that the Prime has Wi-Fi and GPS issues which is like a deal breaker for me (mainly the Wi-Fi part), and I would like to know if they have been fixed or not. If not, I'll probably settle for the Pad. Oh, and what's the difference between tf300 and tf300t? And finally, should I choose the Prime or the Pad?

TF201 or TF700 dock?

Which dock is better, TF201 or TF700? I'm looking for Pros/Cons here, I've heard the TF201 dock has a bigger battery...but what makes the TF700 dock so much better? Or is it better?

It´ s the same. The TF700´ s manual says so and the dock identifies itself as tf201.
I bought the tablet bundled with the dock.

This as a proof that you (and myself) got a TF201 dock bundled with the Infinity, not that they won't be selling the TF700 dock soon. I think they were advertising a dock with 19W instead of 22W battery etc. There was a (sub-)thread about it here some time ago.

I looked for it, couldn't find it :/
I believe it will be up for sale in a few weeks.
http://eee.asus.com/en/eeepad/transformer-infinity/specification/ mentions (as already discussed):
1) 19.5Wh battery
2) TF700 dock not being compatible with the Prime = it should be of a bit different size, especially the docking space itself

Maybe the dock will be slightly less expensive then?
Maybe, it depends on ASUS politics. In IT era we are way beyond small=cheaper logic

Well I can already get the TF201 dock for around $110, rather than the original $150...
My Infinity was also bundled with prime dock.
Colors are off though: tablet is lighter/ more grey and less purple

Amazon has a listing for the new dock and it is set at $150 with a 1-2 month processing time.

I'm really on the fence as well, basically I could go ahead and buy the TF201 dock and have more battery at a cheaper price. However I am concerned that the fit might not be as good as the TF700's intended dock and cause problems down the line. Plus I am worried that if I buy a TF201 dock that it might not have the correct firmware installed and would be incompatible with the TF700.

From my understanding, it fits, doesn't cause problems, and the correct firmware comes installed or you can install it.

Just pointing out, on the spec page

It specifically says at the bottom that the infinity dock will work on a prime
but the prime dock will NOT work on an infinity.

Well we all understand that the prime dock does work with the infinity thanks to the many who have confirmed it, that isn't what it says on the asus page, as has also been discussed. It specifically says the infinity dock is compatible with the prime, but that the prime dock is not compatible with the infinity.

It says neither docks are compatible with the other tablets. Strange, Asus said somewhere though that the TF201 dock was compatible with the Infinity with the newest firmware. A lot of places outside the US were bundling the TF201 dock with the Infinity.

Trying to search but not finding...
@tha creature, are you talking about the screen separating from the backing as in the poorly titled 'hinge' thread? Cracking gorilla glass takes some doing.

Direct quote. The official infinity page has been that way since it was put up, and was discussed in the other dock threads.

Any real difference in docks?

So I had the TF201 Prime that I traded up for at Best Buy to get my TF700... Didn't pay a penny to do it either. But now I'm stuck with the TF201 dock that I had before. Using the Infinity in the TF201 dock seems to work fine, you just need to push the lock over a little to secure it.
Has anyone had both of these docks that could actually point out any real differences? Every last piece of the dock seems to fit perfectly with the TF700, and I'm not seeming to have any issues. I just don't know if I want to go through the trouble complaining and getting a TF700 branded dock while the TF201 branded dock I have seems to work perfectly fine....
On a side note, HUGE improvement between the TF201 and TF700 with both GPS reception and Wifi reception. I am very happy about the improvement. The only thing I don't like is several of the programs on the play store, like Mass Effect Infiltrator, are not compatible with the higher resolution apparently, and the play store won't install them.

I'm pretty sure there is no difference. I know when first released if you ordered a keyboard for the tf700, what you pulled out of the box was one with a tf201 sticker on it. I'm sure you noticed a keyboard firmware update when you first connected it to your tablet. If there is a difference I'm think the shipping firmware is it.

There is an extremely small (hard to notice if your not looking for it) difference in the dock portion of the keyboard, its beveled ever so slightly differently so it hugs the more angled bottom of the 700 better. The prime is more of a smooth chamfer compared to the infinity and the dock is angled slightly differently because of it.
The 700 will still dock in it, allbeit in my case not perfectly but useabaly. When my local stores get docks for the 700 in stock i will be returning mine and getting them to replace it.
I bought the Tf201 dock with my Infinity. I can't find any problems with it, except the the tablet is a little heavy and when you have it docked on the desk, it wants to tip over because the dock isn't heavy enough to counter weigh the tablet. This isn't a problem on your lap, but it is on the table or desk. I also have it in a leather case on it that makes the fit a non-issue. The connection to the dock gets better as you connect & disconnect it to "wear it in a bit"

I got the TF700 dock with my infinity. The box had a TF700 sticker over the TF201 model number. The dock itself had a TF201 label.
I WAS a little disappointed that it was actually a TF201 dock, but it worked just fine.
A guy on this forum did a teardown comparaison and found NO differences between the official 700 dock and rebranded 200 dock. There are no differences, not even in the battery size as some stated before.
FWIW mine also came in a TF700 Dock Box, but is marked as a TF201 on the actual device.

a500 vs a700

Hey folks,
I currently have an Acer a500, and it's been beaten to hell. It still works, but the outer case is alllll messed up and one of the speakers is blown. I recently found out about the a700, and it looks like it would be a great tablet to graduate to, but is it worth it? Has anyone here had an a500 and now has the a700? And those that have the a700 that have or have not owned a tablet before, is it a really nice tablet? Specs are awesome, the tablet is really nice. What are your thoughts? I know one of the greatest things about the a500 is, it NEVER gets hot, even when clocked out @ 1504MHz.
Pros / Cons?
Thanks.
My wife has had an a500 for about 18 months. I just got an a700 for Christmas. I kind of wish I got the a510 which is the same as the a700 except for it does not have the high resolution screen. It has the same res as the a500 which imo is plenty good. The high res causes some compatibility issues. Other than that, I am enjoying my new tab.

Good score. I didn't even know about the a510.

Looks like I'm going to want the a700 of the two. They're basically the same, but I like the higher dpi.

The higher dpi of the A700 is the only reason I bought a Acer A700. I wanted an Asus TF700 but the prices here :silly:
I'm very happy with the A700. For the price this is a good device, except a few lags and some not very reactive apps. I'm waiting for a really, really good CR.
Hi i own a acer 500 rooted 1544mz. I have been testing the aacer a700 and the asus tf700 side by side for about 30 days. I like both units and they both have their advantages however the only advantage over my a500 is the display and slightly longer battery life.
I picked up the acer a700 for $329 and found for my use it seems to work well(photo portfolio)
The asus tf700 was a little more at $429. My photos look great on it and the display is very bright in the sunlight. Plus it is liter than both of the other tablets.
I still have not decided on which one to keep and my 30 day return time is running out and i still don't have a clear cut reason to upgrade from my very smooth and fast a500!!! Any thoughts??

Hi, well I don't know about the TF700 but I can tell you for sure the reasons why the A700 (I own an A701, version with 3G) is better than the A500...
- Location features are better, A700-A701 has A-GPS and, most importantly, GLONASS, a Russian system than can improve accuracy and fix speed by a lot... TF700 doesn't have it (and has more GPS problems anyway, I read). My A701 gets a fix almost instantaneously (some 10-15 sec.) WITHOUT a data connection.
- Battery has three times the A500 capacity, I can't say how longer will it last than the A500, my A701 is good for 7-8 hours of navigation on Wifi. I take it it is about as much as the TF700.
- Most importantly, if you use the tablet for showing photos, then it's a no-brainer... the A700-A701 has a screen with 16M colors, whereas the A500 has 265K. TF700 is on par with A700 on this regard.
Cheers.
