[Q] Which tablet should I buy? - General Questions and Answers

Okay, so after doing some research I've finally decided to buy a tablet. I'm stuck between the Transformer Prime (tf201) and the Transformer Pad (tf300/t) because they are both stock ICS (which I like) and quad-core. I know that the awesome Transformer Infinity is coming out soon but I don't feel like spending that much money on a tablet. I've heard that the Prime has Wi-Fi and GPS issues which is like a deal breaker for me (mainly the Wi-Fi part), and I would like to know if they have been fixed or not. If not, I'll probably settle for the Pad. Oh, and what's the difference between tf300 and tf300t? And finally, should I choose the Prime or the Pad?

Which should i get?

OK, so i have 600 dollars to give my self a nice present, and i think its time to get a tablet. I have always loved the concept of it and finally have the money to buy one. This will be my first tablet ever. My question is, should i get the normal transformer or the prime? I know the prime is way better but then again if i get the transformer i am saving up 200 dollars, but the prime is so sexy and who wouldn't want quad-core? please help!
The answer is in the question.
What would be better FOR YOU? A nice quad core tablet or 200 bucks in your pocket and/or another gadget along the tablet?
If you have anything else in sight, you can save the money getting the TF101.
Is you don't, go for the prime.
What are your requirements ?
I have the older Transformer, and from my perspective the newer Transformer Prime would be more useful for:
quad core in the Prime would likely mean I would not have re-encode 1080p nor 720p videos to play smoothly (which I currently need to do for my older Transformer)
quad core in the Prime would likely mean the very slight lag I see with the older Transformer (when using stylus to markup PDF files) would go away
slightly thinner size and lighter weight in the Prime would mean the Prime is a bit easier to use as an Ebook reader
I do fine with the regular Transformer / Dockingstation battery life, so while the improved battery life in the Prime would be nice, I don't see it as a big advantage. The same is true wrt the better camera in the Prime, as I use a small digital camera for my photos. I do note the Prime has a flash, but again, I don't use the Transformer to take pix where my digital camera is a better device.
Currently one can get 3G in the regular Transformer and can not yet get 3G in the Prime. Still, I use a very small external portable wireless router for 3G and do not need 3G in a Tablet.
IMHO if you plan to play a lot of HD videos on your Tablet, and if you have a small external wireless 3G router (or a phone that provides that wireless functionality) then go for the Prime.

I think the TF101 is great. I am also not sold on the Prime yet. I am sure it is worth every penny but I am just not sure how much we will get out of it till android and the apps are written for quad core processors.
You will not go wrong either way but if that $200 could get you something else right now then I say do that.
btw. I have the TF101 and have rooted it and flashed HD Revolution on it. it is much smoother now than with the original ASUS ROM.

On the fence

Im planning on buying a tablet for entertainment use as well as school stuff. Right now I'm deciding between the Xoom, the transformer (not the prime, too expensive :/) and MAYBE the iconia a500 but most likely either of the first two. My question is are there any glaring bugs or issues on the Xoom that make it inferior?
No. Out of the those three, the Xoom is the best (at least in my humble opinion). The A500 is crap, the Transformer is awesome if you plan on using it as a laptop, but other than that it feels like a toy (though the LCD is very nice). I could have taken my choice of any tablet (this was when the Galaxy Tab 10.1 was new, but already released), and I chose the Xoom.
+1...the Xoom is still the best of the bunch.
The OG transformer actually has a better screen than the xoom but other than that it has near identical specs. It also has the potential to dock in the keyboard dock thing so if that's something youre interested in, then it might be a better pick.
The development for the xoom is second to none though so if thats important to you then xoom it is. The Acer....meh.

[Q] Samsung Galaxy 7.0 or TFT300T-B1-BL

I recently recieved a Samsung Galaxy 7.0 (GT-p6210) as a gift. However, I was comparing prices on bestbuy and saw that I could get the TF300T-B1-BL-CB for about 50$ more. I compared the specifications and it seems that the Acer, in addition to having a larger screen, has a newer processor as well as ICS. I'm just wondering if I am overlooking anything significant. I know size is something to be considered issue but is there anything else I should take into consideration? Can anybody shed some light on what I should do?
Thanks
EDIT: As Mikehud1984 pointed out, the tf300t is made by ASUS not Acer. Typed the post too quickly evidently
First the tf300t is an ASUS not an Acer. Secondly I too was in the same boat trying to decide between the two. I ended up going with the ASUS with the keyboard dock. I made my decision after playing with both for some time as I am lucky to work for Staples where both are sold :}. Anyway I chose the ASUS because I wanted the most bang for the buck and my usage is primarily games and browsing and movies and occasional office work so it has it all with the horsepower of the Tegra 3. It will really depend on how you see yourself using the tablet of choice. If you want to play games the ASUS is an easy choice with the Tegra 3 processor it plays them very well you can also connect controllers using the docks USB port and even put it on your HDTV using built in HDMI. Otherwise the Samsung Tab 7.0 is a nice portable size and great for web and music and doubles as a smart remote with its built in IR blaster. It lacks USB and HDMI but for $250us it's a competitor for sure. Best of luck and enjoy which ever you choose.
Hardware wise you get a lot more from the TF300. It might be hardware you don't need though. If you just want to play Angry Birds, read books, and do some light internet browsing, 7" tablets are great.
I have the luxury to own both, well I have the P1000, but thats a 7" also.
The 7" tab is perfect for on the go.
The Asus is perfect for the coffee table.
If i had to choose however, i would go for portability. So I would keep the Tab and trash the TF300.
The 6210 is the tab plus, which is probably the best 7" tab out there (better than the tab 2). I had the same model and sold it to get the TF300. It offers a bigger screen, more power, and ICS. There are also a lot of rumors about Google launching a Tegra 3 quadcore 7" tab for $199 or less in about 2 months, which is a much better value than the 6210 (unless the other hardware is truly atrocious).

I'm in a similar situation. I've got an HTC Flyer and an ASUS TF300. The Flyer goes with me EVERYWHERE. The TF300 I use when extremem portability is not a requirement.
I love having both, but if i could only have one it would be a 7" tablet.
Thankfully, I don't have to choose
Thanks for the replies everyone. Never had a tablet before and the more I think of it, the more likely it is that I will be taking with me on the go. Therefore, I'll probably stick with the Galaxy Tab Plus.
Thanks again for your input.

Same here but with the Sprint HTC Evo View 4G (essentially the flyer with 32GB memory and additional 3G/4G radios). Love the dock with the TF and usability but I take the 7” tablet everywhere and my TF stays at home.

Asus will give you better specs and hardware, I'd go with it in pretty much every situation unless you need something portable. The TF300 will probably last longer in the sense that its better specs will let it run current software for a longer amount of time after now.

Asus Transformer TF201 vs TF300

I'm not sure which one to get? I heard the TF300 is plastic and TF201 is metal back?
Anyway which one would you guys recommend, the TF201 is about 500 and TF300 is 400 brand new in major retailers, any major differences?
Not much difference between the two in exception of their back cover.. The TF300 had a plastic cover so it would not affect its GPS and radio (this is a major problem on TF201 because of its metal cover)
I'd say get the TF300
Swyped from my GT-i9100
Transformer Prime (TF201) has a Super IPS+ Display, while the TF300 has an IPS Display. Also the Keyboard Dock on the Prime (TF201) last 18 hours while the TF300 last 12 hours (correct if im wrong). Yes the prime has WiFi issues and GPS issues. Honestly, the TF700 will be a better choice but if you need to choose between these two then get the TF300.

Never had problems with WiFi and GPS on 201. I use WiFi extensively

[Q] [Help] Battle of the Transformers

p.s Sorry if this is the wrong section.
Hello.
I've been wanting to sell my iPad 2 and get a Transformer tablet for awhile now. I finally have a chance to, and I really need the community's help on which model I should get.
Over the weeks I've been doing as much reading as I can but when I decide on one model the others give me a glare in the face and show off something that the model I've chosen doesn't have.
My main usage for the tablet is for Word processing and watching HD MKV videos. So I've been looking for the tablet to fit.
Here's what I can gather.
Asus Transformer TF101. First model Eee pad, I doubt I'll be getting it, even though it's the cheapest. I've read that it chokes on 720p MKV videos on most non-stock video players, so I'll probably skip this.
Asus Transformer Prime TF201. Second model, and the one I'm worried about the most. It's got most of the specs I want out of a tablet, and is rather cheap at this point too. HOWEVER, every review I read mentioned the horrible WiFi signal due to the metal backing case. The metal back itself is pretty sexy-looking, but I don't know if I want to get this after reading all the horror stories regarding the WiFi.
Asus Transformer Pad TF300. From what I know, it's basically a cheaper version of the Prime TF201. It does not have the gorilla glass which is what I'm afraid of. I won't be getting a screen protector for this so I'm afraid it'll scratch easily. I need clarification on this. It does not have a metal back as well so I'm afraid the plastic back will scratch too. I'm not concerned about the looks of the back, but I don't like my devices having incredibly noticeable scratch marks. I hope you guys can help me with this.
Asus Transformer Infinity TF701. It's the latest model, and the most powerful. It's got everything I want out of a tablet, but I'm not too keen on the crazy price to get it here. It can go upwards of $1000 where I live, nearly double the price of the iPad 2.
I'm mostly tied between the TF300 and TF701. I'm very interested in the TF201 too but I need professional clarification on the WiFi issues. I would use my tablet in a relatively small house, and the device and router would be separated by at most 3 walls. I don't use GPS so I don't care for it.
Knowing all this, what would YOU, the community, recommend for ME? If it seems like too much, just help me with the TF300 and TF201. I really can't decide.
Please help, thank you.
