Hi everyone !
I installed last night the new P6810 ICS firmware. The performances are amazing compared to HC but I've got a huge battery drain issue I think.
In 5 hours, I lost 50% of the battery but the device wasn't working (in sleep mode).
Well, I tried to find out what's going on but I found only an unusual downloading wifi activity... Actually, the tab seems to download a status or something every second.
Has anyone experienced this ?
Thanks in advance !
I have exact same problem on p6800 hk build. After the update my tab is losing power much faster. In the last hour i lost 20% on 3G browsing

No battery drain issues here even with wifi on. Have you tried resetting the tablet?
have you checked for wakelocks?

OP, is your model the Hong Kong P6810?

Well 3G browsing is known to use a lot of energy and ever more when the 3G/GPRS reception is poor... I don't think that my issue is related to yours...

Resetting ? Like a wipe cache/factory/dalvik ? I did it just before flash ICS... But I was wondering whether there is another way to reset the tab or not.

Thanks for all your replies
My P6810 is a Hong Kong version, flashed with the UK update.
Battery goes down 25% overnight, whereas before it was about 5%.
Perhaps install BetterBatteryStats and CPUSpy to see what's going on.

Or DX Toolbox (a paid app). In the Modules section there is a Power Saver, in which you can check the power usage of each app running in Power Monitor.
So, my findings - If you have any USB OTG device (i.e. a SD card reader or if you attach any storage via the USB dongle) and you disconnect it (by any means, if you just pull it out, if you click "Disconnect" in the notification bar or if you go Settings -> Storage -> Unmount OTG Storage, it doesn't matter, you'll end up with a partial wakelock called "UsbStorageUnmountter" (2 't's, oddly) which seems to do a number on the battery. You can't find it in a ps listing either, the only way to remove it is to reboot after disconnecting any OTG storage.
Thread here suggests a fix (the last one in my list) but that's not working here. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1767654

Ah - It turns out the workaround suggested *does*, in fact, work. I was looking at old data.
If you disconnect a USB storage device, make sure you do it using Settings -> Storage -> Unmount OTG Storage, otherwise you'll end up with a UsbStorageUnmountter partial wakelock which will eat your battery and, if left unchecked, your family.

So posts in a thread about battery drain in the ICS 6810 talking about one of the possible causes of battery drain in an ICS 6810 are off-topic now?
I have the HK version, but my battery seems same as with HC - although I was hoping for a small improvement. For the record, with wifi left always on, and sync on - I use about 1% overnight in standby (maybe 8-10 hours). Some of my apps are pigs and some use almost no battery - guessing that's always the common variable you'll have to sort out for usage - also sync schedules on various apps when in standby.
I have noticed a different issue - maybe. It seems that charging the battery takes longer. It took about 6 hours to go from 38% to full charge on the wall adapter (leaving wifi and sync on, but tab not in use). Anyone else seen this, or just my imagination?

Hi, I have just come over from the HD2 threads as I'm using a Sensation XE now . My battery current when running android on standby was around 7 - 20 ma. On my XE it is between 180 and 220ma. I killed all running tasks etc but still no change. i'm using Battery Monitor Widget to check the currents. The only thing i have on is mobile internet. I also have on background sync but that was on with my HD2 as well. Is there anything I should look out for that my being draining the battery? Also I'm on stock rom
What did you already tried to solve the problem? Did you already do a soft reset/wipe all data (except that on the SD card)? How long is your battery life?
Yesterday i called HTC because my battery life is reduced drastically compared to a few weeks ago. They told me to turn off everything like bluetooth, wifi etc (after a soft reset) and put the phone in plane mode while screen brightness was 100% and screen time out never so the screen stays on during the test. Next I needed to write down how fast the battery was drained. My battery was at 55% after 2 hours (without doing anything with the phone). According to HTC this was to fast and therefore they send me a new battery.

In 1 hour of standby the battery has drained 5%. the battery current usage is way to high for standby. I have had this phone on 3 days so I dont think i need to do a full wipe. I dont use wifi or bluetooth and they are always switched off. Seems strange to have a high battery usage while in standby compared to my hd2. This battery is meant to be a high capicity
use battery monitor widget (use a beta version from the forum, not the market). set it to "mA corrections" and choose automatic from the list of supported phones. i get anywhere from 5-7 mA drain (standby, of course).

Hi, I'm on stock Rom too. Once I kill all tasks by the default task manager, it ranges between 25 - 60. It does take a bit of time to get there. I Have seen it as low as 19. You need to follow steps and get the beta widget and set it to corrections as mentioned earlier in the posts.

Just a quick update. I let my battery completely die (never done this before) and charged my phone fully. I then deleted the battery stats.txt and switched phone off. the charged some more. Now when my phone uses -5 on standby which it never did before.
Well took my phone off charge at 11.05 today and its been on standby. It's now 15.52 and battery is still on F. Battery drain is now at -3 so i'm well happy.
Thanks indie. Can you let us know what will be happening in the future with your battery?

Just an observation, but the graph at the top under where it says 1 day 19 hours clearly shows your battery going up 3 times. Which I was just going to pass up but I have a bunch of shots of my battery stats and none of them go up.

Battery Management
Hi, all.
I want to pass this tip along to anyone who want or need to conserve their battery for what ever reasons.
I have gone usually 3 day+ on one charge.
I'm running on stock rom. Froyo 2.2.1
It is rooted though
I use the phone moderately. Text occasionally.
I downloaded an app called "DataSwitch" by TomatoX.
I use wifi when I'm at home or work.
I have dataswitch activated when I don't need constant background data. ?I turn it on when I need to use it for surfing and such.
In Settings, there is also a toggle for background on/off, although I don't use this much.
With the data off, you can still get phone call and text msg.
I usually turn off data and wifi at bedtime.
On the third day, I'm usually down to 35%.
This may also be useful if you are low and can't get to a charge right away.
It may not apply to everybody, but it works for me..esp with only a 200mb data plan. Battery life is great!
lol look at that cell standby use your phone lol

Good one. But next time on, it would be more useful if you post the screenshots showing call duration and display time. With just this one screenshot it could have display on for just 5 mins or 50 mins. Its hard to tell.
Just now noticed, the tiny green bars in the screenshot (circled in red) come up when the phone is charging.
I noticed that (at least for my phone) if you connect it to wall charging it would reset the "time on battery" count but if i connected it via usb to pc it was charging, yeah slowly maybe but the timer never reset when connected via usb as if the phone said "well im charging but it doesnt counts since the guy its transfering data"(lmao yeah my phone is smart) so if you wait for 10% battery ans then go usb mode and charge it and use it and repeat i once got displaying 4 days 10 hours on battery haha.
While on my real stats my phone never last more than 18 hours ;/

I got my phone to say 2 days 15 hours once. As long as I don't charge it 100% the time on my battery continues to go up. I can plug it in while it has 10% left charge it till its 90% unplug it, and the time won't reset.
If anyone mistook my comment, I'm not really interested in claiming any specific record as the op as stated.
I simply meant to share my thoughts on "dataswitch" app and how I had applied it.
I think found it useful to limit data usage and to conserve the battery when I can't get a charge right away.
You'll be surprise how much battery life background data consumes.
The other part tech part of me also recognizes that battery memory exist...it may be best to "widen" your charge range (0% to 100%) when possible.
Well, I figured out what caused that.. My radio in my truck has a USB port that I plug my phone into to listen to my music. Worked great on my Ipod but it wouldn't charge my Ipod. However today when coming home, I plugged my phone in and it doesnt show to be charging, but when I looked at the Battery Use chart, it deffinately showed an increase.

first open battery usage and investigate which app eat a lot of power.
sometimes just restart the phone will clear out the issue.
The app which eat many power is the browser but I have tried other browsers too but same problem happened.

serious battery problem
OK, I have a serious problem. I updated official RUU, and my phone is running smooth. Battery lasts 1-2 days, everything is working fine. But last night battery was on 17% and I put it to charge at 12pm, woke up at 6am and it was on 33%. I'm charging it right now and it's up to 41% then drops to 39% and so on. Tried another charger - same thing. It won't charge! No new apps, no new settings, battery stats shows the same power use,.... Battery health is good, Auto sync is off,.... I have Go Power Master, Juice Defender, shows no problems. 3G is off, it's on GSM only, Wi-Fi is off, GPS is off and so on, my phone is fully optimised and this happened last night. I charged it while off and now it's on 37%! So I guess it's not a software issue. Anybody has an answer or a clue what could be the problem, please? Is my battery dead (year of use)? Thanks in advance.
try to restart your phone?
Tried that. I'm currently charging it power off, turned it on and it's still draining. While it's off!
i guess it's battery problem. Borrow another battery from your friend and try again.
Well, it was a strange thing... I've noticed that GO Power Master is killing like 25 apps and prolonging time for some 2 and a half hours when you hit optimise button every 2 minutes. So some apps are running in the back and draining the battery. So I uninstalled some of them (clock widget, Noom, Zoner antivirus,...) and restarted phone and by the end of the day it was all stabilised like before. I don't know what happened. I'm still testing it but I've managed to charge it to 100% and there was no drain over night. We'll see.

I have a S2 and every day, at 20:00 the phone starts a process and gets very hot and also drains the battery.
I discover that if I freeze the Noom app, it doesn't happen.
So, I blame noom for your draining issues and mine.
Does anybody else having this problem?
Regards
I didn't had a problem since uninstall, but it happened again later, I think it was from Firefox. While it was on charger, I got popup note saying something like "phone is using more than current can deliver, try to kill some apps or turn phone off while charging." First time I see that note. Probably because it was on Sense, not on launcher. I've noticed that Firefox is using a lot of memory, uninstalled it and it was all normal like before.

I had this problem, but svery time it was solved with rebooting. It showed normal percentage. I think, you just need to reboot device sometimes, may be once in two days. I suppose to think the couse of ghis problem is a kernel) it can be engaged with not an exact process, so battery drains. Try to change kernel, or rom, or battery)

Hi,
I am on a rooted stock rom DDLF2. Couple of weeks i am observing high battery drain though none of the apps are running. I dont put any fancy live wall papers or widgets. I have stopped all the background apps like google play, maps etc and Background data unchecked. I always us GSM only and do not use any wifi or data network. Screen brightness is at around 15%. I use the phone very less hardly get around 5 to 6 calls in a day lasting 1 or 2 mins per call. If i charge the phone fully to 100%, after 8 to 9 hours the battery is coming down to 30%. After it comes down to 15% the lock screen shows it is charging with the percent symbol even though it is not connected to the charger.
I tried resetting the phone, cleared the dalvik cache and the cache partition but no use. I suspect this is a software bug.
Has anybody faced similar problem? Any solution would be much helpful.

Have u tried clearing battery stats..?
Do it once. then charge your phone to 100%.. allow it to discharge it to 20%..
Again repeat the cycle for 3-4 times..
this should solve the problem hopefully..

Again repeat the cycle for 3-4 times..
this should solve the problem hopefully..

Yes i already tried it. Cleared the battery stats. But did not solve the problem. Surprisingly the moment battery charge drops to 15% it starts showing the line "Charging (15%)" on the lock screen even the charger is not connected to the phone. Not sure what is wrong.
So i am thinking of downgrading the version. Can anybody suggest me any good stable stock rom which can be used for India (since i am in India) particularly with good battery life.

Kpu? It is quite stable.
try putting some other Kernel, may be BAM kernel it might help!
U might want to check if your battery is dead.

Even i was feeling that phone's battery is dead, but trust me, I reverted back to DDKP3, and installed BAM kernel .. I find battery backup much improved, I have kept GPRS on for 5 hours now ..11% battery drained. On the LF2 ( for india without BAM ) and on the ICS drain was huge.. like in 6 hours i have seen drain more than 45%
I have even bought new battery also.. but testing on Old battery only.. You can try combo of DDKP3+ BAM or DDKP3+titanium!.
Update
It's 8 hours 11 mins, GPRS on since phone was charged to 100%, battery is drained to 86% ( 14% drained) Display On for 7 mins 21 seconds!
It seems like my old battery is still well and can work!

Thanks for all your responses.
@emptyragnarok -- DDKP3, do u mean the Build Number: Gingerebread.DDKP3 or the Baseband version -I9003DDKP3 ? Can u please clarify?
Also i need two things for the downgrade;
1) Any posts or links which describes the procedure of downgrading in detail
2) Links on how to flash the other kernels like BAM etc and reverting back to stock if needed.
Thanks.
All your responses proved that i am not alone. All your responses made me feel confident that I can still use the device and solve the problem.
here is the procedure to flash BAM custom kernel...http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1355675
holy crappp! i lost again! where as I! :silly::silly:
Hello all,
I have had my 8013 about a month now...
It has gone from have over a day of charge to about 3/4 of what it had.
I haven't let it run down and top it off whenever I get back to my desk.
Did I accidently overcharge it and damage the battery or should I do some recalibration?
I see there are recalibration utilities in the store, but wanted to ask before making a situation possibly worse.
Thanks

I have the same question as you!
I can't tell if it is more hardcore/prolonged use over the holidays causing me to think my battery smaller... or if its actually happening...I definitely THINK i notice a difference!
Try using better battery stats and cpu spy to make sure your device is sleeping properly.
It seems to be correct and sleeping right also. Anyway to reset the battery indicator?
If you flash a rom, your battery stats don't get changed and could lead to incorrect readings. If you're rooted, charge your battery to full, boot into clockworkmod recovery, advance, and wipe battery stats, reboot, unplug and let it discharge normally until it's dead before you plug it back in. And keep a lookout for rogue apps that hog resources, of course.
Edit: Lithium ion batteries shouldn't need calibration, due to it having no memory.

what charger did you use ??
Did you check what applications are running in the background ??
What rom are you on ??
Strange :
Have mine since September in maximum use everyday as notebook replacement, since 4 weeks also as central remote (Touchsquid) for my home cinema + AllShare Play source on my Sammy TV and my note is still good for 10 hrs + on 3G and 12 hrs + on WLAN (100% down to 5% each)
My wife's note is the same .........
It even seems that with 4.1.2 it even improved .........
