Help me get going with my SGH-I727? - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S II Skyrocket SGH-I727

I used the official update to get 4.0.4 ICS, my phone was a little bit slower, so I started cleaning it up, and I think this would be a good time to make a few small changes to make my SGH-I727R really the phone I love.
I didn't like Touchwiz, so I used GO Launcher EX Pro until I got ICS but since uninstalled it. What are the best launchers available?
I use GO SMS Pro and I love it, but the only thing is that I only use GO Chat with one friend, and we both decided that it's really annoying, logging us back in when we don't want it to, and making conversations difficult switching from GO Chat and normal SMS. How can I permanently log out of GO Chat or are there other fixes for this?
I used DoubleTwist for my music, but I don't really like the syncing. I use iTunes on my computer and would love to have a music player that can sync directly with iTunes or at least a way to have the exact same music library on my SGS2 as I do on my iTunes.
Finally, what are other ways I can keep my phone lag-free now that I have ICS?

I can use any of that go launcher crap. It seems so unpolished to me. Too make your phone any better you need to root definitely. Its so easy to root too.
Oh and amazon MP3 will automatically take your iTunes library and let you upload those to your amazon library where you can stream music from or download them to any device. The best part is you don't need to use the amazon app to play the music you can use your stock Samsung music app. Basically its very simple and your not getting tied into any commitments.

Yeah I've never even rooted my phone before. I got it in January of this year and I just haven't really gotten to into customizing it beyond what I can find on the Play Store. I just found this forum and it looks very promising. What would be the best way to root my phone and what would I be able to do once I do root it?
Amazon MP3 seems really good but I have to upload my iTunes library? I have like 40 GB of music though, not trying to upload all that

If you want to read into rooting then Vincoms Everything Root thread in my sig is where u want to go. It has everything you need including links and thorough instructions.
As for what you can do after rooting...you can install a custom rom, over/underclock, remove carrier bloatware, mobile tether, install non market apps, Get The Latest And Greatest Android Has To Offer, and sooo much more.

I recommend Apex launcher. It is smoother than Go Launcher IMO and works excellently. I love it!
If you want to sync with iTunes then perform the following steps. I believe u can do this with or without an external SD card. 1) Make a general playlist on iTunes with all the music u wish to sync. 2) Now on your SD card make a folder titled music (or whatever u prefer). 3) On the general playlist made in iTunes click on a song and then go to file select all. 4) Copy the contents over to SD card. That was merely getting the music on your phone...now is where syncing playlists takes place. 5) Go to a playlist you have in iTunes and right click on the name of the playlist. 6) Click export and save as a .m3u file on your SD card (note: default format is text file so u need to change it to .m3u). 7) Repeat steps 5 & 6 for each additional playlist and voila! Upon disconnecting your phone from PC you will see the playlists show up in your music player (it takes a min after the initial disconnect for them to show up).
Enjoy!

Drop Box, how is this a solution??

Now I could be missing something really obvious here but I can't seem to stream an album off drop box?
I uploaded a few last night so went into the folders on my One S today and could see all the music. Only problem is I can only play one song at a time?? Where is the option to stream an album? If this isn't possible how can this be a solution to internal expandable storage??
Why not use Google Music?
Edit: Ah, guessing its not available in your country. Yeah that sucks then. This phone really needed 32GB onboard if they were going to remove the Micro SD.
Because I have dropbox and though it would work where I drop music in a file (which I own) and then I can play it from the devices its installed on. Which I can, but only one file at a time.
The best solution is Google music; even if it is not available in your country, it's not that hard to get it.
If you are bent on using Dropbox for your music, then try ES File Explorer. It has an option to browse online storage such as Box and Dropbox. You can then long press on each file and add it to the now playing play list. Not the elegant solution you are looking for, I know, but better than nothing.

Damn cloud storage is taking over the world..
I would have liked more than 16GB in my One S (receiving tomo ) But il just have to live with it
I do however like dropbox i use it alot since i made an account.. I guess i could just download my albums on the go, If memory gets full, delete it and download something else..
But yeah, Its not a perfect solution, A damn SD card slot isnt very big, Surely theres room for it somewhere ? ive got a collection of SD cards, from 2gb to 32gb - Pretty much useless now
When they said it has ropbox integrated I assumed they meant it was actually integrated to function as storage and not just as an app.
Google are releasing there own cloud storage soon..
They'll take over the world soon...providing they kick Microsoft's ass. Apple is slowly losing the phone war. Still...the ipods are amazing. I'm still using a 5g video

I've been using Subsonic to stream my music for a while and it works like a charm. It was really easy (for me) to setup but I've heard some people have a hard time with it. I would suggest checking it out, could solve your problem. Just be aware that the first month is free to stream and then its a one-time, $15 fee to license the server. Well worth it imo.

As everyone says use Google Music.
If you cant get it, VPN to america and goto music.google.com and signup, then itll work in the UK there after.
Been using it on my old Samsung Nexus, and the One-S awesome app.

I like Amazon Cloud (Music) better.....same as Google Music though

Do you guys all have a data plan with endless hig speed.
In Germany i can only use 500MB on full speed (7200kbit/s) and after that i can only use download speed like 64kbit/s for the rest of the month... if i would use the dropbox as my music storage i would blow the 500 MB limit during the first week =D

Sounds about right.... I love my unlimited data plan. A bit costly, but averaging 2+Gb /month it's worth it
a high data plan / unlimited is now becoming a must !! especially with all this cloud storage and the amount of apps that require internet.
its not soo bad for people who can use BT hotspots (me) or have wifi almost everywhere..
i reckon i could survive on a contract that only had unlimited internet and 0 mins and 0 texts lol
i could just use 3rd party apps to make calls and send texts via the internet... so its more important to have internet package than calls and texts lol
crazy!

So what are the issues with One S right now

I have Samsung Hercules (sgs2 for TMO) for sometime now and though there is plenty to love about that phone, I don't like the audio quality on it. To those of you thinking I must be a snobbish audiophile kind...no I'm not that, far from that, I have $30 IEMs and there is big difference when I switch from mp3 player to the phone. I've tried DSPs and EQs, it still is not good enough. I had HD2 before that and I didn't feel that much of difference going from mp3 player to phone. Now judging by gsmarena review, it seems One S has pretty excellent audio and I'm thinking of change.
Biggest deal breaker however for me is non-expandable storage on One S, but I think I can manage with 16GB. Which brings me to my first question, how much space is available to user out of this 16gb on the phone ?
What are the other major/minor issues on this phone worth mentioning (i dont care about non removable battery).
My Ville is just fine but some people have issues with theirs.
You get 2GB for apps and about 10GB for your "SD card". It's really not a huge deal. I use Spotify and Google Music so I don't have to keep much on the phone anyways.
Sounds just fine by the way.
This phone doesnt have many problems. It is probly tmobile's best right now

One gripe I have is why my facebook calendar doesn't display the correct time when synced with my calendars on my phone. I had an event tonight at 8 that was correct on facebook (central time zone) but it was being displayed an hour ahead for 9 PM.
Another gripe I have is the screen itself. The pentile display looks grainy.
My third gripe is that it randomly rebooted three times now when I was leaving work. I was listening to music I had pinned to listen offline from google music. My phone is connected to my work wifi, but when it switches to the regular cell network while listening to google music, it reboots. I am not streaming music with google music, its already been pinned to listen offline.
Fourth gripe is related to google music and HTC's music player. When I pin songs to play while offline, I don't know why HTC's music player doesn't recognize them. So I can't use them to make ringtones unless I have them loaded onto my phone.
Gripe number 4.5 is that this phone doens't support FLAC files. I am just getting into this file format, tho, so its not a big deal.
Fifth gripe is that I wish the app drawer had the same swipe effect that the galaxy nexus has where if you swipe it to the side, the next group of apps comes from the back to the front.
Sixth gripe is I don't know why but when my my phone is plugged into my speakers and I get a notification like a text or an email, for some reason it interrupts the music and the notification sound plays through the speakers. I'll have to experiment with this some more, tho.
Seventh gripe is all the t-mobile bloatware. Yes, I can root it if I really wanted to, but I'm too lazy.
Eighth gripe is swype. Doesn't install because of the 3-dotted menu button that appears that makes swype think the resolution is less than it really is. And the native HTC Swype keyboard blows.
With all that said, BEATS AUDIO IS SOO RAD!! Except I haven't really found an equalizer. But I only listen to my music through google music, so I don't know. Also, the sound through the speaker is so crisp and clear!
AND it is very very fast and snappy! The camera is SO fast. I haven't shot any videos with it yet, but just a few pictures.
As for all my gripes, I reckon that there are some fixes for some of them. I am considering getting a galaxy nexus to see how it compares and then sell whichever one I don't like. I looked at a galaxy nexus today at the store, tho, and while it was a demo unit that keeps the screen on all the time, there was still bad bad burn in. Anyway, I hope that helps you out a bit.
Only issues ive had are really minor bugs. Like when i play temple run it sometimes lags out even though i cleared the ram and cleared any running apps. i disabled everything tmobile put on the phone but it doesnt matter cause their **** keeps popping up -_- will have to root i guess.
biggest thing with my particular phone was the call quality. it SUCKED. everyone i heard on my phone sounded really buzzy and shaky. waiting on a replacement. i really have had no real issues except for random crap that happens due to apps and stuff and limitations on certain apps. its a really good phone =) i love it. just need to get used to its length is all.

You can turn that feature off. Just go to settings>language and keyboards>HTC Sense Input> and turn off trace keyboard if you already haven't.

It wont see the files because Google Music puts a .nomedia file in the folder that it downloads the music files to. DoubleTwist is able to see past that and allows you to play the downloaded files. It might have FLAC support too, not sure.

1. Sounds like some digging around on facebook/phone settings should change that, I can't see it being off by an hour with no fix..
2. Eh, yeah from up close you're right, this was a gripe from before the phone was even released. I guess I don't mind cause I use my phone more for business not multimedia..while it is slightly noticeable, its still a great screen. Some will notice/care more than others.
3. Havent had this happen personally but I have read other people experiencing the same thing. Since its a known issue I'm sure HTC will release a fix (or an XDA Rom cook)
4. Move files from .nomedia to a different (music) folder on your device.
4.5. Not uncommon for a phone to not support flac by default, search for flac in android market there's plenty of free and paid options to use.
5. That's the default android launcher, because you're running sense its a different app drawer. Download Apex launcher for an AOSP style launcher (you will loose Sense widgets, but it will seem more like Galaxy Nexus).
6. The notification you're getting is from Beats, its a little red B icon. Just letting you know its 'enhancing' your sound. Don't know if you can change this...
7. Yeah tons of crap on this thing..no choice but root. It's pretty easy, most time is spent downloading the files. Rest is a piece of cake. (Note you will have to factory reset to unlock bootloader from HTC, so you will loose everything. Make sure you backup first if you do this).
8. Root, install Noble Rom or mod in development forum to remove dots.
Overall there are fixes and workarounds for most of it, or atleast will be soon. If you like the nexus flash an AOSP Rom and stick with the HTC metal build IMO, unless the screen is that big of a deal, then Nexus.
Good luck, let me know if I helped at all

my biggest gripe is that it is terrible at multitasking. Often times I will be doing simple tasks like browsing the web and I will press the home button and the phone has to reload the home screens. It is very annoying. The phone is pretty snappy but my old Samsung vibrant never had such problems with multitasking. I think it must be sence being so heavy.

Decided not to go with One S. 10gb is too low, since my offline gps software eats almost 4gb leaving only 6gb for me. I'll stick with sgs2 and wait for next best thing..Thanks guys..
BTW all the other issue if any, seems to be on software side which would be fixed already with custom roms or may be fixed soon..HTC has done a good job this time..but too bad they had to leave out SD card and only give 10gb of usable space on phone. If they are claiming 16gb they should have alteast made sure that user has access to 15gb of space especially when there is no option to expand
technically it is 16gb.. 1.7 gb for the ROM, 2.5gb for the apps, 10.5gb left for the user..
however i do think it was a sneaky decision, It should be 16gb left AFTER the space for ROM and apps.

I've had mine almost a week now and only had a few small issues.
1: Swype, which has already been mentioned
2: Pandora isn't working for me. It will play a song, start the next song and about 5 seconds in it skips on its on. Plays the next song completely then repeats. I have an email into the dev on it. (If anyone else has had this issue or knows whats causing it, I would be eternally grateful, im an addict)
3: Google music locked my phone up for about 5 minutes the other day while listening in my car.
4: Misc apps not being supported yet (but its to be expected on a newer version of the software)
My only other issue is that I'm just not a huge fan of sense, but atleast 4.0 is tolerable for now until an official release of cyanogen comes out.

That would be a bad workaround IMHO. For a start, there is no folder named .nomedia - there are many multiples of folders where Google Music store the files, and each one will have a .nomedia file in there. Plus, moving the files out would possibly make Google Music re-download the offline files etc. Causing duplication of space used and the need to repeat the process in its entirety if you wanted to pull more files down.

Phone is great, ive had a couple of random reboots and twice where it says its preparing sim!?
overall fantastic phone, some moan about the screen its not up to the one x screen but its far better than the sensation screen with the mods they have done, battery life has been a major bonus for me easily get a full day from it. As other say its very snappy, my friend has a one x and on most things weve tested in real use terms there is no obvious difference in performance.
Best phone i've had bar none.

[Q] pandora downloader (ios) equivalent for android?

a good friend of mine was showing me an ios app called "pandora downloader":
http://forum.iphone-developers.com/...der-remove-limits-pandora-download-music.html
and I was wondering if there was anything like it for android?
I don't generally put music on my phone due to the small amount of space that I have, but it would be nice if i had the ability to download songs from pandora that I have cd's for at home once in a while (note: i'm not condoning piracy, and all songs that I'd be downloading, i'd make damn sure i have licence for before i did). I often find myself away from my cd collection for long periods of time and the thought of ripping it all and then trying to manage all that data is just plain daunting... i'd rather hear a track i know on pandora and click the download button.

Why not google specifically
Anyone ever find a good substitute for this? I know you can google what you need but whats nice about pandora and my ipod is sometimes you get songs you have a hard time finding like some acoustic versions and stuff.
i to want something like or atleast a radio app that allows mw to save song to mp3

best ive got is the same way on the desktop.
download firefox (not beta).
open it and go to menu>tools>add ons
click the add on icon in the top right
search the add ons market for "download"
download and install the first add on.
from firefox, go to Pandora.com, it should request you to download the app.
press menu>request desktop site
wait for it to load and sign in
when you hear a song you want, click the "down" arrow on the bottom left
accept, and wait for the download to finish.
open your favorite file manager and navigate to firefoxes download path (more than likely sdcard/Downloads.
find the "blah, blah, blah, blah.null" file and rename it to "the song you are trying to download.mp3"
accept any warning/ prompt about changing the file extension.
enjoy your music!
If opening FF is a pain for you for pandora, you can do a few things to make it almost like an app. use some ingenuity!

Its in the works on the main thread were keeping track of what works and what doesn't, were adding new devices almost everyday.

What I do expect from Apollo (or a CM9 integrated music app)

Hi all,
I'm writing this because I really don't understand what's is the point with Apollo.
It seems that the developer was copying things from Play Music and trying to make an app from scratch.
But, it totally lacks features and doesn't address any previous shorcomings:
No Various Artists grouping
No Replay Gain
No settings at all
No album arts stored in the files/folders
Albums downloaded are bad resolution and not able to change them
Not so smooth interface
No folder selection to play music from
Unstable (Sometimes it just stopped playing)
Seems somewhat heavier that Play Music
And on top of this.. it is integrated in CM9 and with version 1.00. Then, voodoo sound doesn't get integrated. Not only that, but there is a plan to charge for "premium" features, like what? Change the album art or pick it from the files itself??
I'm happy with CM9 as they are adding features and addressing issues, but this Apollo is annoying.
Really.. Am I missing something?
I don't know, I think that Play Music is so much better than this one.

You're missing the fact that Apollo is still a work in progress.
I'm using Apollo over PowerAmp Pro because the DSPManager from CM9 is incompatible with the latter (in my case, at least).

I think the biggest problem with Apollo (and all other 3rd party music apps) is that it isn't able to integrate with my Play Music library. This is of course a failure on Google's part for not providing an official API.
I've been moving toward uploading more and more of my library to Play Music so that I don't have to carry so much around on my external SD card, opening up more space for storing videos, pictures, etc. Eventually Apollo isn't going to have much to work with...
Well, not everyone has unlimited data plans and not all areas have good coverage. Also, I like to keep my data locally (at least important or large stuff).

I understand that. I certainly don't have an unlimited plan or the greatest coverage 24/7 either. But you can sync stuff from your Play Music library to your phone while on WiFi for offline playing, so you can kind of have it both ways.
And I guess that means you could potentially sync your Google music and then play it through Apollo. (Assuming Google syncs them as normal mp3 files and not some weird encrypted DRM format.) But it's still annoying to need multiple apps installed.

Yep, that's retarded. I love the artist photo dowload, but why not use the album art that is already there (either inside the MP3 or in the folder) instead of downloading a craptastic low res image? I hope that's not supposed to be a future premium feature (I can only think it will, since using a local picture seems easier to implement than downloading it).
Also, no AlbumArtist/Band support, it seems. I have compilations and OSTs and they appear spread in the Artist tab, instead of appearing once under "Various" or "<Name of the film>"
I was removing Music.apk and replacing it with PlayMusic.apk before flashing. Will do the same with Apollo.apk for now.
(edit) Reading the author's google+ comments:
Settings are supposed to be that way. You don't need as many as you did in previous versions, but I will be including more in the Play Store version. One of which is a different way to set album art and such

it seems local album art will be reserved for paying users, although most people there are asking for this feature. Goodbye Apollo, then; going back to Google player.
Yes, I was using apk replacement a while ago. I really wanted to download flash but I guess I will have to use PC, edit and then flash.
What I would really like to know is how difficult is to implement Replay Gain that is around for a while.
I can't stand how Apollo won't use the album art that comes with the songs. If it already has album art it'll still show the "Apollo - Illuminate Your Music" art since it can't find it online...even though I already have it.
It's stressing. And the art it does find is so grainy and low quality.
My biggest gripe is that Apollo doesn't use the equalizer. I just flash the old original cm9 music whenever a new build comes out. Even though it's kind of cpu heavy.
I simply can't understand why such an app can make it's way to cyanogenmod...
It has no settings at all, you aren't asked if you want to download covers or use those in the music files, the app simply starts downloading.
This is not the way a cyanogenmod app should be or behave!
I tried the January version of Apollo... well there are the missing settings but the rest of the old version is really slow and often not responding.
So I switched back to the old cm9 music app.. it is a nice feature of ICS that you can deactivate system apps ;-)
i expected it to be on the market by now
I guess one can freeze the app and use something else but I liked it for what it offers. It still seems there is much work to do. It works with DSP. That is nice. Downloads artist pics, but when you click on them, you get a FB's timeline type, rectangular frame where you can't really see the pic. Add some settings, and include a dark theme, don't let us download it.

Same feeling here, rest of CM is working really nice. Also battery is nice, I can get 1 day with normal usage.
It's in the market from today, 5.31. Description is lacking imo. Cost: 4.64. No free version listed in developer's other app section. Weird thing:i downloaded app from web and market showed as the app already installed. If true that it's the exact same app as the 5.21 release, it's definitely not worth the price at this point. Imo. Also, imo, based on developer's track record, I'm not sure how quick updates will be.

The dev said it would be 2.3+ compatible. Could you send me the link to the app on Play Store? I can't find it

Hi,i think someone might've been trying to steal the dev's work. Was wondering this after my first post as there was no communication from Dev's site today. i can't find the app in the market now either. maybe Google took it down.someone did link to it on dev's g+ page in the comments section today. But someone there also suggested the app was probably not official. Sorry for the confusion. I'm just as curious as the next person to see what the official app looks like, hence my 1st post.
Edit: just checked link on Dev's g+ page and link still is live. The app in the mkt is listed under the developer name: living water. another issue is the mkt icon is not the Dev's official icon which should've been a red flag for me. sorry again.

I cant seem to find it in the market
Anyone have news about the Market version? He said almost 2 weeks ago that it would be on Play Store in a couple of days, and nothing until now...

i don't know how long the play store upload process takes but for some reason this taking so long doesn't surprise me; might be awhile longer (but i hope not). If u catch comments in Dev's g+ page, he has been absent since like the day he posted on 5.21. Some communication might be good from him

Change
Where can I submit a request for the app?
One feature that I would really love is being able to listen to music by folder. It seems to have everything else but this. EG Artist, album, genre, etc.
I store my workout music in a workout folder and I would like to be able to just select that.
I know I could create a playlist for each folder but then I need to update it all the time.
PLEASE ADD FOLDER PLAY OPTION.

[Q] Syncing andoid with itunes (with no computer?)

I realize this might be more of an apple question but i feel like ive already searched to the ends of the interweb on apple forums and gotten nowhere and when i ask a question over there the only answer i seem to get is "shouldve bought an ipad"... So I'm wondering if there is a way to sync an itunes library with an android device without a computer? As far as i know, all of the common apps out there (doubletwist, airbind, etc) need to be set up on a computer first. Im trying to bypass this step with my little brothers iphone 5 and a rooted android tablet with ICS. I bouht him the tablet for xmas, but decided to give it to him early when his laptop was stolen earlier this week. He doesnt live near me or i would let him use my laptop to sync with his itunes. Is this even possible? Or will he need to find a computer? Please help!!!
There's doubleTwist player on Play Store which I've heard is pretty awesome at syncing iTunes- all for free. If you dkm't need a whole new player then there's quite a few other apps on market, not sure how reliable they are though...
Soryuu, thanks for the reply. My understanding is that you still need a mac or Windows computer to set up doubletwist I initially? Or am I wrong? Can I do this with just an iPhone and an android device??
Edit: Yeah, you need a desktop to work doubleTwist/Airsync and so on.
An iPhone and an Android device?
I don't think there's any easy solution to this except using cloud storage like Google Drive or something- which would be slow enough on its own- and even then, depending on how many songs you have it'd be a tediously slow process downloading them onto the tablet. If you are using cloud storage... I've never used iPhones so I don't know but can they make zips out of files? If you can that may make it slightly easier- zip the music up (if possible), upload to the cloud and then download it as one package.
There is this app that seems to work like NFC: http://m.wikihow.com/Use-Bump-Between-an-iPhone-and-Android
But 1.) Not sure about tablets- I assume so if its that popular of an app but there was no mention and
2.) Apparently its semi-functional according to some of the reviews I've seen.
I guess you could try it out and see what happens.
Other than that I don't think there's much else...
