Drop Box, how is this a solution?? - HTC One S

Now I could be missing something really obvious here but I can't seem to stream an album off drop box?
I uploaded a few last night so went into the folders on my One S today and could see all the music. Only problem is I can only play one song at a time?? Where is the option to stream an album? If this isn't possible how can this be a solution to internal expandable storage??

Why not use Google Music?
Edit: Ah, guessing its not available in your country. Yeah that sucks then. This phone really needed 32GB onboard if they were going to remove the Micro SD.

Because I have dropbox and though it would work where I drop music in a file (which I own) and then I can play it from the devices its installed on. Which I can, but only one file at a time.

The best solution is Google music; even if it is not available in your country, it's not that hard to get it.
If you are bent on using Dropbox for your music, then try ES File Explorer. It has an option to browse online storage such as Box and Dropbox. You can then long press on each file and add it to the now playing play list. Not the elegant solution you are looking for, I know, but better than nothing.

Damn cloud storage is taking over the world..
I would have liked more than 16GB in my One S (receiving tomo ) But il just have to live with it
I do however like dropbox i use it alot since i made an account.. I guess i could just download my albums on the go, If memory gets full, delete it and download something else..
But yeah, Its not a perfect solution, A damn SD card slot isnt very big, Surely theres room for it somewhere ? ive got a collection of SD cards, from 2gb to 32gb - Pretty much useless now

When they said it has ropbox integrated I assumed they meant it was actually integrated to function as storage and not just as an app.

Google are releasing there own cloud storage soon..
They'll take over the world soon...providing they kick Microsoft's ass. Apple is slowly losing the phone war. Still...the ipods are amazing. I'm still using a 5g video

I've been using Subsonic to stream my music for a while and it works like a charm. It was really easy (for me) to setup but I've heard some people have a hard time with it. I would suggest checking it out, could solve your problem. Just be aware that the first month is free to stream and then its a one-time, $15 fee to license the server. Well worth it imo.

As everyone says use Google Music.
If you cant get it, VPN to america and goto music.google.com and signup, then itll work in the UK there after.
Been using it on my old Samsung Nexus, and the One-S awesome app.

I like Amazon Cloud (Music) better.....same as Google Music though

In Germany i can only use 500MB on full speed (7200kbit/s) and after that i can only use download speed like 64kbit/s for the rest of the month... if i would use the dropbox as my music storage i would blow the 500 MB limit during the first week =D

Sounds about right.... I love my unlimited data plan. A bit costly, but averaging 2+Gb /month it's worth it

a high data plan / unlimited is now becoming a must !! especially with all this cloud storage and the amount of apps that require internet.
its not soo bad for people who can use BT hotspots (me) or have wifi almost everywhere..
i reckon i could survive on a contract that only had unlimited internet and 0 mins and 0 texts lol
i could just use 3rd party apps to make calls and send texts via the internet... so its more important to have internet package than calls and texts lol
crazy!

iCloud = Free?

OK so Jobs just announced that iCloud is free for nonripped music, any ideas on the price of Google Music? I would imagine they won't price themselves out of the game.
Google Music is free while in Beta. Beta for Google is what, two years? So, you won't have to worry about it until then.
yes icloud is basically free if you don't count giving your soul and mind to the all knowing and almighty steve job's bwaaaahaaa. dang i think i just felt i chill run down my spine.
You also only get 5GB of space...
I don't see Google charging for Google music. They already make tons of money off of us from ad revenue.
I just got my Google Music invite today. I have to admit, its pretty awesome. App works great too.

Music doesn't count against that 5 GB. That part of iCloud is more comparable to Dropbox, minus the multi-platform aspect and the nice web interface. The iTunes side is more like a hybrid of Amazon Cloud Drive, where music you buy from them doesn't count against your cap, and Google Music Beta, in that the music you don't buy from them is measured in the number of songs. It is nice not having to upload, but realistically it's one or two days and then I don't have to worry about it again (Music Beta will do 'watch folders'). I'll take being able to stream the music over having to download it to each device (i.e. upload once, never download vs. never upload, download to every new device). It also saves me having to have enough space available on my phone. If for some reason I'm bandwidth averse, desktop music syncing has always been dead simple, and I'll still keep a local copy on a hard drive no matter what.

I dunno. My thing of iCloud = exchange aka Google sync.
One thing I hate about my iPad2 (sue me) is that it relies on a freakin' PC to do ANYTHING. Why would a "PC" need another PC? My Netbook doesn't require a PC for first boot. My phone doesn't need another PC to boot.
I think iCloud is going to be what Google already does to us... lets user sync their devices to a "virtual PC" on the internet.... backs up your contacts, music, wallpapers, keeps a record of apps to redownload, etc.
I was watching a special about it today on TV where they were broadcasting the event and airing clips.
The whole time I kept thinking iCloud = Apple playing catch up.

If you read the question you would know it wasn't about icloud. The OP was asking if anyone knew whether Google Music would be free, and speculating that since icloud was free, Google Music might be as well (to remain competitive). Icloud was simply juxtaposed against Google Music...for the purpose of that speculation. I personally think a question about Google Music in an Android forum is right on target.
And apparently there are quite a few people who care about this issue judging from the 250+ views just three hours after thread was posted.
I apologize if you read the OP and truly didn't understand what was going on. If on the other hand, you didn't read the question and just blindly commented...or were just posting a negative comment simply for the sake of posting a negative comment...then not so much.

Check out this article. It appears that the $25/yr product allows you to upload your music.. it then finds those songs on the cloud in HQ and gives you those as a replacement. Basically, the music you uploaded is removed and you have replacement songs by Apple from the cloud..

Expansion of Cloud's memory
I am surprised at the generosity of cloud services. At first, they offered 2 gb with dropbox for free, then box.net and a few others handed out a free 5gb, then eventually one service - i forget the name - gave out 25 gb. Now Box (at box.com) is giving 50 gb of free storage space for free! I would act now, even if you don't need it now, it may be nice to have later. I am surprised that they can afford to give so much memory away. Where do they hook you at?
Box gives lotsa free storage but you have to pay for the desktop client. No Linux support. 100mb limit per upload. And ya gotta wonder how long they'll be around.
Fail.
Dropbox has free software, no file size limit and native Linux support. Financially sound, not going anywhere.
Sent from HTC G2
There was(and still is) a "hack" that allowed you to get 50GB for Android phones. I did it accidentally two times, and now I have 100GB's. It is kinda stupid to give 50GB for free, because that means, we have could have basically unlimited bandwidth, and it would cost thousands for that company.

Here's the full set of instructions for anyone who needs it.
For XP users:
1. Right click "My Computer"
2. Select "Map Network Drive"
3. Choose a Drive Letter
4. Type "\\www.box.net\dav" without the quotes
5. Box's server ping response time is kind of slow. Wait up to five minutes for the connection to establish.
6. Type your E-Mail for the username and your Password for password
Windows 7/Vista users:
1. Press the Start button
2. Right click Computer and hit "Map Network Drive"
3. Choose a Drive letter
4. Enter: "\\box.net\dav" without quotes in the folder box
5. Box's server ping response time is kind of slow. Wait up to five minutes for the connection to establish.
6. Username is your box email address
7. Password is your box password
EDIT: Be careful when doing this. Box's servers are VERY slow. Occasionally, they will lag so bad that Windows will time out several times on boot trying to connect it. If you boot up to a black screen with only a mouse cursor, reboot into safe mode, disconnect the drive, then reboot normally. I set the drive to connect on demand, since I don't use it for much. Dropbox and InSync are better services.
I have the Box app installed on chrome for free. It works just fine for me.

This looks interesting and is really generous, but the link for the app is unavailable?
Edit: Scratch that It's just a bad link.. I got it lol.
I've tried out box, but I dislike the having to pay for a desktop client. I've made the switch to dropbox and enjoying that! The only way I would fill up 50gb is with music and video.
Got my 50gb, then switched back to DropBox after I realized it I wasn't able to transfer at more than ~17kbps with it. Explains why it took 2 days to upload my photo library (1.8gb) and DropBox had it within an hour.
I like box I got the 50gb free purely from owning an xperia phone

What I do expect from Apollo (or a CM9 integrated music app)

Hi all,
I'm writing this because I really don't understand what's is the point with Apollo.
It seems that the developer was copying things from Play Music and trying to make an app from scratch.
But, it totally lacks features and doesn't address any previous shorcomings:
No Various Artists grouping
No Replay Gain
No settings at all
No album arts stored in the files/folders
Albums downloaded are bad resolution and not able to change them
Not so smooth interface
No folder selection to play music from
Unstable (Sometimes it just stopped playing)
Seems somewhat heavier that Play Music
And on top of this.. it is integrated in CM9 and with version 1.00. Then, voodoo sound doesn't get integrated. Not only that, but there is a plan to charge for "premium" features, like what? Change the album art or pick it from the files itself??
I'm happy with CM9 as they are adding features and addressing issues, but this Apollo is annoying.
Really.. Am I missing something?
I don't know, I think that Play Music is so much better than this one.

You're missing the fact that Apollo is still a work in progress.
I'm using Apollo over PowerAmp Pro because the DSPManager from CM9 is incompatible with the latter (in my case, at least).
Trimis de pe Defy CM9
I think the biggest problem with Apollo (and all other 3rd party music apps) is that it isn't able to integrate with my Play Music library. This is of course a failure on Google's part for not providing an official API.
I've been moving toward uploading more and more of my library to Play Music so that I don't have to carry so much around on my external SD card, opening up more space for storing videos, pictures, etc. Eventually Apollo isn't going to have much to work with...
Well, not everyone has unlimited data plans and not all areas have good coverage. Also, I like to keep my data locally (at least important or large stuff).

I understand that. I certainly don't have an unlimited plan or the greatest coverage 24/7 either. But you can sync stuff from your Play Music library to your phone while on WiFi for offline playing, so you can kind of have it both ways.
And I guess that means you could potentially sync your Google music and then play it through Apollo. (Assuming Google syncs them as normal mp3 files and not some weird encrypted DRM format.) But it's still annoying to need multiple apps installed.
4. No album arts stored in the files/folders
Click to collapse
Yep, that's retarded. I love the artist photo dowload, but why not use the album art that is already there (either inside the MP3 or in the folder) instead of downloading a craptastic low res image? I hope that's not supposed to be a future premium feature (I can only think it will, since using a local picture seems easier to implement than downloading it).
Also, no AlbumArtist/Band support, it seems. I have compilations and OSTs and they appear spread in the Artist tab, instead of appearing once under "Various" or "<Name of the film>"
I was removing Music.apk and replacing it with PlayMusic.apk before flashing. Will do the same with Apollo.apk for now.
(edit) Reading the author's google+ comments:
Settings are supposed to be that way. You don't need as many as you did in previous versions, but I will be including more in the Play Store version. One of which is a different way to set album art and such
Click to collapse
it seems local album art will be reserved for paying users, although most people there are asking for this feature. Goodbye Apollo, then; going back to Google player.
Yes, I was using apk replacement a while ago. I really wanted to download flash but I guess I will have to use PC, edit and then flash.
What I would really like to know is how difficult is to implement Replay Gain that is around for a while.
I can't stand how Apollo won't use the album art that comes with the songs. If it already has album art it'll still show the "Apollo - Illuminate Your Music" art since it can't find it online...even though I already have it.
It's stressing. And the art it does find is so grainy and low quality.
My biggest gripe is that Apollo doesn't use the equalizer. I just flash the old original cm9 music whenever a new build comes out. Even though it's kind of cpu heavy.
I simply can't understand why such an app can make it's way to cyanogenmod...
It has no settings at all, you aren't asked if you want to download covers or use those in the music files, the app simply starts downloading.
This is not the way a cyanogenmod app should be or behave!
I tried the January version of Apollo... well there are the missing settings but the rest of the old version is really slow and often not responding.
So I switched back to the old cm9 music app.. it is a nice feature of ICS that you can deactivate system apps ;-)
i expected it to be on the market by now
I guess one can freeze the app and use something else but I liked it for what it offers. It still seems there is much work to do. It works with DSP. That is nice. Downloads artist pics, but when you click on them, you get a FB's timeline type, rectangular frame where you can't really see the pic. Add some settings, and include a dark theme, don't let us download it.

It's in the market from today, 5.31. Description is lacking imo. Cost: 4.64. No free version listed in developer's other app section. Weird thing:i downloaded app from web and market showed as the app already installed. If true that it's the exact same app as the 5.21 release, it's definitely not worth the price at this point. Imo. Also, imo, based on developer's track record, I'm not sure how quick updates will be.

But someone there also suggested the app was probably not official. Sorry for the confusion. I'm just as curious as the next person to see what the official app looks like, hence my 1st post.
Edit: just checked link on Dev's g+ page and link still is live. The app in the mkt is listed under the developer name: living water. another issue is the mkt icon is not the Dev's official icon which should've been a red flag for me. sorry again.

Where can I submit a request for the app?
One feature that I would really love is being able to listen to music by folder. It seems to have everything else but this. EG Artist, album, genre, etc.
I store my workout music in a workout folder and I would like to be able to just select that.
I know I could create a playlist for each folder but then I need to update it all the time.
PLEASE ADD FOLDER PLAY OPTION.

[Q] Podcasts: What are you using for podcasts subscriptions?

At the moment I am using an app called Ratpoison. It's free, and it downloads the latest podcast right to my sd card. However, the podcasts selections are very limited, and there is no real way to organize all my subscriptions in the folder. I am looking for a more up to date podcast system. It must be able to download to my sdcard, no streaming. I have "unlimited" data, but I am a truck driver, and once I leave the big city, I am lucky to get E, but most likely I'm on G data. And that makes for very poor streaming. What are you guys using? I've checked out alot of different apps, but they seem to be mostly streaming, or they are sort of expensive for trial and error and experimenting.
Thanks!
PS. Not sure if this belongs in theme and apps, or Q&A. Seems to be both

I 100% aagree I find that Huawei are fairly priced on most products tbf, and the fact that most purchases come with a freebie!
First Huawei in my hands ever. 50gb cloud for free with P40 Pro. Much better sync and less tracking activities at the moment, mainly because of missing maps. I dont care about missing Google stuff, except voice recognition on my language. Even on android One device i use Microsoft services. Onedrive autoupload doesnt work here and its a must to be fixed! Price... around 700 Euro with Gt2 watch as a gift. Camera, Voice, Sound... no comment at all! Even without G$$gle the phone is the best of!
What i want to be updated, fixed or maded:
Microsoft services... some of them are dependant on google
Maps app
Voice recognition, Text to speech on many languages...
There own pay app connected to mobile providers

In the Uk I use Waze or the Tomtom app for the mapping. I've not had any issue with office apps so cannot help on that one sorry.
waze and google maps works out of the box except sync.... microsoft autoupload is broken in OneDrive...I have 1Tb prepaid. Office works like a charm.!When i mention maps... i mean their own map service. Their phones are used globaly, so the database will be filled very quickly.
