HTC Inspire 4G reboots alot - HTC Inspire 4G

My HTC Inspire 4G reboots too damn much, it's been like this for weeks and am only writing this now because i have been patient but now i'm at the point of throwing this thing out of the window. I've tried many roms but no matter what it reboots, the rebooting is not constant like on a loop or something like that but i'll be either browsing, listening to music, playing games, etc and it'll reboot, it reboots more than 5-8 times a day sometimes more. As i said before i've tried many roms from Android Revolution HD, aospX 1.0.0-BR2 - 4, Unofficial Cyanogenmod 9 by PipelinerArd, Smartdroid Reloaded, and IceSense V Beta 3 and no matter what it reboots. Is there anyone that can please help me?
As i was typing this i was watching netflix on the inspire 4g and it rebooted on me again for no reason.......i swear i wanna slam this ish on the damn floor .

Try a stable Gb rom after a full wipe.
Wipe data, wipe dalvik, wipe all partitions (except sd card).
If you get a reboot, then try it without the sd card.
Sent from a dream.

I did try a stable GB rom, i tried Android Revolution HD 7.0.4. Is there a stock 2.3.3 rom for inspire 4g that i can try? I've also removed the sd card but it still rebooted. I'm currently using aospX 1.0.0 BR4.

With so many roms and still have reboots its a sign of a dying battery. Its a known symptom of a battery about to go.

My gf's has the same exact problem, and she has replaced her battery but it didnt help at all. Ive tried multiple kernels/roms but nothing helps. Im thinking it has something to do with her wifi because she says it happens almost always when she is at work or home (connected to wifi). Could flashing a different radio help this or are they strictly for data/voice/text?

I would be more willing to blame hardware for this, maybe the phone has taken water damage or been dropped. Check and clean all connections on the device (sdcard, simcard, battery, usb, wifi antenna, radio antenna). Flashing different radios is not the first route to take for fixing this problem. But if you want to do this, first start with re-flashing the current radio (obviously doing an md5 check on it while it's on the phone before doing so) and start from there.

I read a reply in another thread about this saying the sim card was the culprit and after replacing it he didnt have anymore reboots...I had her go get a new one, I'll report back if this fixes the problem or not.

Just saw this thread I have also been having reboot issues diff roms seem to help on cm9 now and it only does it a couple times a day now instead of the 7 or more like before. I have replaced the battery, flashed many diff kernels. I would love to find out the culprit next step is to tear apart the phone and check connections

Happened to me 10 times a day. Flashed arhd 6.3.3 and not even one reboot in 2 weeks. Shame on att that recommended new battery which did not help at all!!!

Just wanted to update everyone with this problem, after my gf put her new sim card yesterday morning she hasnt had a single reboot yet...normally she would have had 10+ by now so I'm pretty confidant that was the problem.

Well i currently don't have a sim card in the phone so i only use it for everything else but a phone. what are radios for?
Oh and also i've noticed that the phone doesn't reboot while in recovery (i'm using 4ext) i've left my phone in recovery for a while because i needed to transfer a big file (over 10gb) to my micro sd and it never reboots and now everytime i need to transfer a big file to the phone i go to recovery, the reason i say this is because if it was a hardware issue wouldn't it do it anywhere including recovery. Also doesn't the phone creates a log that perhaps can help find out what the problem is?

So your phone is having reboot problems, but your not using it as a phone (not on a network, no SIM card)
Have you replaced the battery yet?

Nope not yet, have to buy one but at the moment i have no money but when i do i'm gonna buy a new battery and see. But i truly hope that the problem is not hardware and that it's just the battery.

I would recommend buying a battery from Amazon or somewhere else online. At&t tends to rip people off. I had a friend who bought two batteries and a charger for them for 25 on Amazon

Okay, New update. Switched out my SIM card for a new one and it seems to reboot less. Key word is less; so it did not fix the reboot so I will downgrade to a more stable gingerbread Rom. Hopefully that will fix it. Just 9 months till I can get a new phone!

Glad to hear that your inspire 4g reboots less, Mine is still rebooting but it has been rebooting less ever since i installed Cyanogenmod 7.2.0. What i don't get is doesn't android creates a log file right before a crash (reboot) and shouldn't that log tell us what the problem could be?

Downloaded app so I can check the logs easier. Next restart I catch I will make sure to check the log. Can't be sure which log is the restart at this moment, but most of my close logs look to be a problem with java

Do me a favor and download from the play store and app called "Android System Info" it is free, and will give you easy access to the log files.
If you can catch your phone rebooting, try and look up the log right after it and copy and paste the info you find here.
I am still waiting for mine to reboot I put the app on mine so I could look at the log from the reboot, and since then my phone hasn't rebooted.
It's like it knows its being watched.

Spontaneous reboot

Got my phone last Wed, and until 5 minutes ago it had been flawless.
Was sitting on the desk next to me, and spontaneously lit up, vibrated, and rebooted.
Everything seems to be fine, but was a bit strange.
Anyone else seen this?
I see it when using the music player

I've had this quite a bit, twice during phone calls too. Once it gets regular I do a factory reset and it sorts it for a few days. I'm also getting the capacitive buttons not responding but a reboot sorts it. I'm tempted to send it for repair but half of me thinks its just buggy release firmware.

The odd thing is I wasn't using it at all, and nothing was running. It was just sitting there with a dark screen and all of a sudden the boot screen came on.
If we were seeing lots of posts like yours I'd agree it's probably a common problem, but in your case I'd swap the phone. I'll definitely be monitoring closely.
Mine has rebooted twice in week and a half of owning, and also sense crashes about once a day, i go to unlock and its the HTC white screen the sense comes up loading....
I also have problem with restarting/reloading. However, it is a bit different situation. I get white screen and sense UI (and maybe everything else I didn't check yet) reloads. By my observations, it happens after I do stuff on a phone for a very long time (1 to 3 hrs). After such extensive use phone becomes even hot to the touch at the bottom of the screen. Then all of the sudden when I exit some program to go back to sense UI I get white screen and sense UI reloads.
I had the same issue with my first two sensations. I found out tho it was because of the 16GB SD that I was using from my MyTouch 4G. Once I reformatted the card inside of the sensation it never rebooted again.

oh really? i may try this.
Coming from the LG G2x and leaving with reboots as one of my main issues, this is extremely disheartening news!!! I hope HTC releases a firmware update soon as the G2x was pretty obvious that it was a hardware issue since the Optimus 2X STILL suffers from the issue with no word from LG about a fix coming.

Sounds to me like there's more than one cause of reboots. I'm using the stock SD and my phone doesn't get warm. I haven't seen Sense restart and I wasn't using it when it rebooted.
I have ordered a 16Gb SD though so appreciate the tip.
It's good to keep this thread going. I'll update with any new developments.
I've had 4 Sensations and my wife has 1. Not one has rebooted or had Sense restart/reboot. Might be a certain couple of apps causing it.

Same here too!
I have not tried yet the factory reset.
Also mine has a very weak gsm signal compared with other phones. Practically I have 0 signal where other have full!
Had the same issue so I formatted my SD card. Had no issues for the last 6 days. no reboots, nothing. Sence 3 has so far only crashed when messing around with unsuported 3d games, but that is my fault. Sence is very stable.

I had that issue as well. Getting from tmo a new sim card solved that issue for me.
I have three sensations on my account. I got all three at the same time. I noticed mine was rebooting couple times a day while the other two were not rebooting. So I exchanged mine and got the replacement about a week ago. So far no reboots at all. I would say if it is bothering you and if it is rebooting pretty often then you should exchange it.

You should try wiping everything and installing a custom Rom or a rooted stock Rom and see if problem persists, could be a software issue. There are plenty of stock rooted gb Roms buried a few pages back in dev forum.
Check my sig. Stock roms. There is a rooted gingerbread PD98img, stock. I think it's the 3rd one, iirc.
With the phone plugged into the charger take a pic with flash on and see if your phone resets. Could be a battery issue.

That would be my recommendation. If you knew someone with another inspire you could try their battery. Actually your battery should be under warranty. If your phone is stock looking then you could probably take it to an ATT store and let them check it out and get 1 for free. Or even a call to 611 ATT support might get you a new battery for free. Just tell them it won't hold a charge and the flash causes your phone to reboot and you tried a friends battery and it fixed the issue. ATT has very understanding customer support.
It definitely sounds like a battery issue. I had a very similar issue. My phone would shut off at random times, and one thing that caused it was the camera flash. I picked up a new HTC battery on eBay for like $14, and it runs like a dream! If you cant fork over the money for the HTC brand battery, there are lots of cheaper chinese batteries for like $2 a piece. They would be good to just test and see if the battery is the issue if you cant find a buddy that could let you use a battery for troubleshooting, before you buy an HTC battery.
Absolutely! the same thing happened to me a few weeks ago. A new battery solved the issue. If you have a warranty/protection plan call up At&T and they'll take it from there.
Man, I love forums! I was just having this problem this week! I guess my brutal punishment to my battery over Winter break has cost me (I was running the phone down to 0% multiple times a day). Time to get a new battery.

Digging into the problem
I was going crazy with this problem! I wonder now what is the problem with the battery, because mine it seems like it keeps current like a good battery. Does anyoane has any "hardware-electrical" explanation?
Anyway, at least I have one solution and I am partially happy with it.

I'm assuming when you say it "keeps current" you have been using a current widget. The camera flash puts a heavy load on the battery. On an older battery, it may look like it's fine at idle or doing simple tasks, but it can no longer handle the tough tasks.

internal storage wiped

So it happened to me, removed wifi calling apk (requires reboot to stop constant force close) and rebooted only to realize that my internal storage was completely wiped. Not upset about it lost some music and a couple of images I can live without, backed up most of the important ones a while ago.
Just curious if it has happened to anyone else with the g2x?
It happened to me once on cm7. I uninstalled swift key and everything froze for about 2 minutes. Then the screen went black.
Battery pulled reboot and it went to lg screen then black. Battery pulled again reboot into recovery nothing would mount or work in recovery. Reboot again and it would only go to recovery.
It wiped my entire internal and fried my 16gb external. I had to nvflash back to stock to get it to work again. External SD card is still useless.

Lol, it would serve you right. I mean, is it LG that's to blame? It is Nvidia? Is it Google, they're the ones who wrote Android, or is it T-Mobile for commissioning the software for the phone to be written as crap? Hardware-wise this phone is pretty good, and the fact that it's nearly impossible to truly brick this think is awesome. And is it even Nvidia or LG that ultimately writes the OS? There is a thread bouncing around about that.

HTC Inspire running slow, freezing, and not responding well to touch

I have a HTC Inspire 4g, AT&T, 16gb microSD Sandisk card, no root, no roms.
It boots slow, but i've looked around and that seems to be normal.
Sometimes itll just freeze, anywhere from 3-15 seconds
Sometimes the screen and sound keep going, but the touch cuts off completely. half the time the buttons at the bottom work, the other half they dont, and i have to click the button at the top to turn the screen off and back on to fix it.
Sometimes when the screen is off, i click the top button, and the orange light goes on, and it clicks, but the screen stays black.
Sometimes it just freezes and i have to reset. Some of those times i have to take the battery out to reset it.
Sometimes it lags, hard, like the keyboard freezes, and i go ahead and finish typing, up to a whole sentence, and after 5-15 seconds all the text i type pops up on the screen, but i get no haptic feedback like i do when its not lagging.
Things load slow, the gps takes forever to connect, if at all, and it won't pick up wifi even when i'm well within range, and my mom's first gen ipod touch picks it up in the same spot at the same time with no problem.
Everything is up to date.
Anyone got any ideas? I thought about rooting it and putting a rom on, but idk if itll make a difference.
Its not covered under warranty anymore.
Pretty frustrating in general.

For best performance try cyanogenmod 7. Truely I can vouch for the Android Revolution HD Rom. It's a sense 3.0 Rom, and it has android 2.3.5 gingerbread(very smooth). I can say that right now, there are no fully working android 4.0 ICS or 4.1 Jellybean Roms(Release candidate).

Depends on if you wanna keep sense or not. Cyanogenmod 7 and Revolution HD are good choices. Best thing you can do is flash around and find what suites you. If your wanting to check out some of the latest android versions like ICS I'd say give exits aospx a try, and keep your eye on the latest jellybean ROM called Jelly Time in the Desire HD thread...its exploded practically over night and is looking to be a daily driver in no time the way the devs are working over there.

For future restores
For me, my contacts and calendar are saved via my gmail account. Upon restoring to factory settings, or installing a new custom rom, and setting my account up in the phone, all of this data is automatically restored. For apps and their settings, Titanium Backup has been the lifeline for me. It has saved a lot of time and effort. Check it out and see if you like it. There is a free and paid version (which I paid for the extra options and to support further updates) on the Market.
Custom ROMS are individually unique for user experience. No one can really tell you which one is best (well...we could but it would be our own personal bias based on our individual preferences). You need to keep trying them until you get one you like. As always mentioned, nandroid backups can be your best friend.

[Q] Just another restarting issue. Insight please?

Alright so I picked up a Sensation 6-7 months ago from my T-Mobile dealer. Ever since I picked it up, I took a break from the flashing/rooting scene.
In May/June, when the official ICS update was released, I installed it to see how it ran before I went full force into the rooting scene once again. Ever since I downloaded it, my phone will restart at random times. It's starting to become very frustrating especially when I use my phone for mostly business purposes. It ONLY started this AFTER I installed the official ICS update.
So onto the next step. What I've done soo far is as described
-tried different batteries
-formatted several SD cards, with no luck
-formatted the phone twice
-I always do hard resets at least twice a day
-done several tests on apparent rogue apps to see if there was a difference
Alright, so now I ask of my XDA family, obviously this has been a problem ever since the ICS update. I haven't done any rooting on this phone in case I DO happen to get it replaced since its still under warranty
The ultimate question is this, will rooting fix this issue FOR SURE or should I play the safe route and just get a replacement Sensation with it still being under the one year warranty? What would you guys do Im this situation? Any other suggestions to try before deciding one of these options? Don't wanna go through with the rooting if I just have to unroot it take it back to the T-Mo dealer days later.
Any help is appreciated!
Thanks

tried this ?
Thanks for the suggestion, but it wouldn't necessarily be a battery issue if it just started doing it once ICS was installed? Or could it have been a coincidence that it started rebooting when I did the update? Does the housing wear in after a certain time causing the battery connection to loosen?
Thanks.

I also use this link http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1622683 (third post down) as I was in the same boat as you. I ran out of idea's to why my Sensation was always rebooting no matter what I did with countless different ROM's, Kernels etc and found that this battery_fix solved all my problems. Not had 1 reboot since Hope this helps
So just a little update. Ever since I tried the credit card trick, my phone hasn't restarted once. Roughly 2 full days. Done several things that I did before that would easily make the phone restart. Opened many apps at one time, drained the battery down to 3 percent and still no restart.
I'll keep testing this method for the next couple days but so far it seems like its been a good work around. Thankyou for pointing me in the right direction ganeshp!
