What is the Battery Temp. supposed to be around on these phones?
And i possibly think the temp. monitor on Battery Life widget by Curvefish may be inaccurate.
On my Epic 4G its pretty accurate and around 70*F is normal Temp. At 82-86*F is Medium watching videos. 92-98*F is when i'm playing games. 100-108*F is when i'm OC'ed and playing games.
Shoot when my Epic is idling or the screen has been off for about more than 10 mins its around 74*F and if its been around a half an hour it will even drop down to about 54-56*F.
But on the NS4G it seems like anything i do seems like normal is 96.8*F, it takes a while to drop down to around 84-86*F. and when i'm watching videos or browsing XDA its at 102*F and gaming is at 104*F whether i'm OC'ed or not. The lowest iv'e seen the NS4G drop to was about 78*F and that was because it was a sleep for a long time(Hours).
So is it just the Battery Temp actually that high or is that app just not working too well with NS4G
Do you really think your epic's battery is in the 50s F ? That is far colder then any room temperature. Unless you're in the southern hemisphere and are outside in the cold your battery is simply not in the 50's

when i play 3D high-end games for about hour or so, it even came up to 105 °F ...

Yep because my phone is cold when I pick it up like its 60. And when I was outside in January it was 30F because it was on the table and cold as hell. I do live in the south.

isn't the battery's max temp supposed to be around 120*F or 45*C and it automatically shuts itself off?
i think being in the 100's around near it all day is kind of killing the life expectancy of it?

nope for me, listening music while laying on the beach ( I live in Italy...) my battery run up to 40°C-104°F and sometimes even at 51°C-123°F, my personal best!
during sleep time in summer phone never drops down below 28°C-85°F, while in winter same condition is 22°C-71°F, so for what I suppose there's something wrong with cpu "cooling" cause is too much depending on outside temp, but running on same battery since I've purchased it, 06/11, every night charge and still same result as battery duration, so nevermind about phone temp, our nexus is a great phone...

Im running drods 1.5ghz kernel set at 1.4ghz and bamf 1.3 with extended battery. at idle the phone runs around 87. But when performing simple tasks like streaming music through bt or using kik it quickly gets up too around 108. Is this normal should i be worried? My incredible oced too 1.2 would never breach 100 even if i was throwing everything at it.

108 is not a bad temperature don't sweat it. I usually set my safety profile for 120.0
I has an overcloked d1 running 1.25ghz constantly running between 105-115. Zero problems and my friend is using it a year and a half later as his phone.
I would recommend you use a setcpu profile to bring the overclock down while charging too. Phone gets hot while charging.

I use a wall charger for my battery's. ive also noticed it only really gets this hot with the radio on with kik running in the background or any small task really. On wifi it cools right on down. weird. Thanks for your input
I don't really pay to much attention to the battery temperature (maybe I should?) But I have seen it range from 84F - 102F when glancing at the battery stats.
I'll easily get over 100. But it's also 90 outside anyways. It does seem to get hotter than other phones, I don't know why. Using current widget I can see that it pulls a lot of mA.
I don't run much under 85 all the time.

I had the Tbolt in the car the other day (gps mode) when i undocked it it was really hot / checking i saw it at 55C (131 F) / Usually its bet 28 and 34 C
Mines 88 @ work right now surfing on 4g 66% battery left according to setcpu off of newest bamf and the new kernal. Room temp is about 77... CPU set to smartass haha I love this stuff I have not touched my awesome custom built by me gaming pc all weekend aside from rooting my tbolt

87-95 depending on how heavy usage is. Never above 100 for me. (Extended Battery btw)
Running the TB @ 1.2ghz and I get a usual of 25-35c.

I was reading up on the article about Lithium batteries on BatteryUniversity and it said that 30 celsius is the ideal temperature for the phone, especially when it is charging.
My phone is normally at 23 C during standby, and quickly goes to around 30 in light usage. If I start playing games then it hits 37 C. Rare times it goes up to 40.
I am wondering if my temperature readings are normal, compared to other XT users.
Any tips on how to lower the temperature is appreciated as well. My biggest problem is when I start getting texts just early in the day and my phone starts over heating from them. Sometimes when I get texts while it is charging it goes up to 36-37. I don't know if it has to do with my app (handcent) but I never expected MMS to be such a "battery heater".
I run music apps all the time and it always stays at 30-32, but then once I start texting, bam. 37.
I've had mine hit as high as I believe 48C, but that was really pushing it and with a 100MHz overclock.
Typically any app that requires processing power will make it heat up a lot.
It may be a good idea to use a CPU manager.
You don't really need to sweat it (pun intended). No matter what you do, the CPU will have to work, thus creating heat. The only time you really have to worry about it is when it gets around 50°c. At that point you have to really worry about frying your processor. I have gotten mine up to 54°c and nothing happened. Freaked out, yes and put the phone down to rest for about an hour. Biggest thing that causes temp to go up, believie it or not, is the display. I can listen to an entire baseball game with the screen off and temp will hover around 113°f. Screen on and it goes way up really fast. SetCPU had a profile that will throttle back CPU when temp gets too high. Cool widget is Batstat. It'll show charge, voltz and temp in f/c°.
my phone's usual starting temperature (while phone is doing nothing) is around 30-32 degrees. I believe that it's due to warm climate where I live( room temperature during day is like 30 degrees) after playing a graphics intensive game for 5-10 min, phone temp will reach 40 degrees. Is that normal?

yeah, thats wat i'm wondering too. But then the post above u said as long as its not over 50 then its fine. I've read for other phones it goes up to 60/70 sometimes, so i guess i'm just over wondering.
my average temperature when i just pick up my phone is around 32degrees unless im in an air conditioned room... it usually heats up to 35-37 while im using it to do light stuff like facebook and twitter. my phone gets very hot only when i use my 3g network or when i am downloading a lot of apps from the market. i dont play games.
I am under 40°C with OC to 820mhz. I can have 40°C when I use gps on car when there is a lot of sun.
PS : I you want to stay at 40°C, you can use setcpu and underclock phone when battery temperature is higher.

hi, my z3 gets around 45-48 degree celcius while idling. and could get up to 58 degree celcius while playing game. is that normal? if its not, how can i fix it?
Seems pretty warm for idling. Do you live in a hot place/region? What apps have you downloaded? Maybe there are some errant apps. As for games yea Im not surprised if its getting that hot.
Sorry for the necroing the thread, but this is relevant. I live in Eastern Canada and right now it is the winter time. My house is room temperature and this my phone's "tsens_tz_sensor0" is fluctuating between 47 to 50 degrees Celsius.
Sensor 5 is fluctuating between 54 to 56 degrees Celsius. Sensor 6 is between 45 to 46. Sensor 8 is between 43 to 45. The other sensors show minimal to no change at all.
Is this normal?? My phone has an unlocked bootloader, I'm running updated, stock CA generic rom, and it is rooted. Before unlock of the bootloader, my phone was running fine temperature wise, but I did not check the temperature checking app.

I was Searching for Temperature issues with Z3 because i have temps of about 40-42 C when recording Videos..
Coming across with this it seems really bad.

Yeah it's expected the S3 has an older 1.4 Ghz A9 CPU, the Z3's 801 runs at 2.5 Ghz which means higher voltage and in turn temps. Samsung also allow the chipset to run hotter.
Do you use the FB messenger?
I found it caused my phone battery drain and warm.

Since I bought my gs6 I have noticed the soc temp heat up very quickly and couse a massive throttling of the gpu above all ...so that performances go down of 50% expecially when running antutu ...is that normal or should i send back my phone to warranty
every CPU throttles, the S810 throttles even more, they have to, and don't run benchmarks, they won't do you any good, if in day to day usage the phone heats up it's normal, my S6 do heat up but i never noticed throttling, i never noticed lag when it becomes hot.....try to use your phone normally without ****ty benchmarks...

Yes I know benchmarks are quite worthless ..but it's not just about that..i notice this even while gaming ,browsing and even doing light stuff ..its however pretty much annoying

i don't play games that much, i only play couple of games like boom beach, i don't know if this game considered heavy or light, but if i play it for about half an hour the phone heats up a bit but it doesn't lag at all....in light usage usually it doesn't heat up, but even if it heats up i never notice lag, the phone stutters in some places but no lag.....

Hi,
Please install the app called CPU-Z to check your device temperature. Also keep in mind that depending on where you live, it's easier to heat up than on other regions, as the external temperature does make a difference.
To throttle it needs to get very hot. Check if you have Mobile Data and Location turned on when not needed, and specially Mobile data when you're out of range, they consume lots of power and heats the device up considerably. Also, Wifi if not connected will keep searching for somewhere to connect and consequently will use your device power and heat up.
Another thing to keep an eye on is background apps and the external temperature as mentioned before. On S4 I faced a serious battery drain and overheat problem due to background apps not letting it sleep.

You may have a lemon S6. Return your S6 to Samsung for warranty replacement.

80 degrees Celsius seems a bit high to me, like mentioned I'd check with Samsung if this device has a defective thermal dissipation.

I noticed that during the benchmark it got to the 80 degrees range, but it lasted a few seconds, if your device get to 80 degrees and stay at it, maybe it isn't dissipating hear correctly.

OK then there must be a problem with my device....I actually donno what other things could couse this abnormal heat but a production defeat....maybe the weather? ? I live in italy and here is 34 degrees..but i doubt it
Hmmm temp of the device cant be lower than your temp of ambient. Ill post screenshot pf mine after some minutes.i live in kosovo and temp here is aroud 33 today

80 sounds crazy not a bit high
80 its high but device can reach that temp sometimes. Example if you play and fast charge same time it can get that temp. And not to forget outside real temp. Here its so hot... up to 40degrees
Hi All,
80 degrees is not as extremely as you might think. People tend to think its too crazy or high because they never would have seen it and the most times they check their cpu temps on CPU-Z it will be hovering around 40-50 degrees. The best way to check your temps in S6 is to open CPU-Z/AIDA64, have it minimised in a smaller window and drag it to the very corner of one side, while this is running, open a game like dead trigger/skyforce and notice the temps. Also, do the same while performing an antutu test. Yes, the scores will be greatly reduced and the temps will be a tiny bit higher because of this smaller window running simultaneously, but you can compare your temps pretty easily. Also, try to be present in a ambient temp of 26 degrees rather than upwards of 30 for a fair comparison with fellow users. According to me, 80 comes up at times but it lasts only for seconds (S6 starts throttling exactly at 80 and beyond that the core clocks gets aggressive reductions) but it will never be constand even while running a game. Mine CPU idles @35 degrees with ambient temp being 26-30.
My temps : (All temps in Celsius)
Ambient temperature 26 - 30 degrees :
Battery temp : 25-30 degrees
Idle : 32-35 degrees
Slight tasks (Whatsapp, checking notifications) : 37-39 degrees
Multiple applications : 38-43 degrees
Game - hungry shark evolution : 47-52 degrees
Game - Dead Trigger : 55-62 degrees.
Ambient temperature 31-36 degrees :
Battery temp : 33-37 degrees
Idle : 41-44 degrees
Slight tasks (Whatsapp, checking notifications) : 46-50 degrees
Multiple applications : 47-55 degrees
Game - hungry shark evolution : 55 degrees
Game - Dead Trigger : 65-70 degrees.
Also i've noticed that the CPU temps increase for a flash second to 65 above while installing multiple apps from playstore. Try updating/installing multiple apps from playstore, have the CPU-Z open, and exactly while the app finishes downloading and starts installing, there will be sudden spikes in temperatire depending on your ambient conditions. But, never reaches high temps constantly.
all right, thank you all guys for your replies. So..i sent my phone back to samsung and got a new one 2 days ago,i can definitely confirm that the phone heats up exactly like the previous one , maybe just slightly less(i mean 3 degrees..nothing craze).
For anyone suffering of this ''issue", notice that temps may drastically change depending on wheater temperature ,humidity, etc. if weather is at 40 degrees ur phone wont surely get to a lower temp.
BTW it s clear that this phone heats up and throttles ,some may notice that others not, so unless you receive overheating warnings or have other serious stuffs on ur device ,do not exchange it for a new one because certainly it ll be quite the same as the previous one. Oh it 's quite clear as well that folks claiming their device doesn't exceed 60 degrees under heavy usage either are liers or super lucky ones with uber super powerful units...think its more probably the first option.

Hi, I want to buy the Rog 5 but I've heard that it has high temperatures even from light use (like when using YouTube it reaches 40degrees celcius). How are the overall thermals? I'm not talking about throttling I'm talking about general temperature when using the phone for light tasks. Any info would be highly appreciated. Also any info on battery life would be great too
From what I have heard from Youtube and reddit, It is a hot phone because it keeps internals in a good temperature, plus they achieved better temperature after update.

But having a warm phone isn't a good sign is it? I'm currently using a huawei p40 pro plus and it's super cool (probably because of the ceramic body). You mentioned an update, so is the rog 5 cooler after the update? On YouTube Technick ran a battery drain test and the Rog 5's peak temp was almost 60 degrees celcius

I got it a few days back, I can share some impressions. Yes, it's a hot phone. Yes CPU temp gets up to about 40 degrees sometimes when browsing or multitasking. Gaming also gets it to about 45 - 50 on CODM and Dead Cells and between 55 and upwards of 60 with Genshin Impact. A Peltier effect cooler like the FunCooler from black shark brings this down about 10 degrees. This temperature is mostly felt at the center of the display, while the sides on the back, where the batteries are, remain noticeably cooler. Perhaps their goal was to dissipate het through the display, idk.
I haven't been able to notice any drop in performance yet, even with the thermal limit set to low. What I don't know is how this affects the chip long term, but I hope it doesn't degrade for at least about 5 years. Either way I'm sticking with a cooler for Genshin impact just to make sure the device lasts longer.

Thanks for the reply. 40 degrees from just web browsing is ridiculous. Rather dangerously high and will definitely degrade batteries. Think I'll give the rog 5 a miss

40 is the CPU reading I get. Batteries stay about 5 degrees below the CPU for normal use generally according to my observations, just to make that clear. Not sure which battery temp it's actually reading though, since there are 2 batteries.

40 is still too high though for normal usage. I've never heard of a phone go that warm. My huawei sits at 22 maximum.
Phone arrived 2 days ago, in my experience It Is not that hot, while browsing / YouTube / Instagram It Is cool (about 31/32 °c) and my ambient temperature Is around 20 °. I have played 1 hour call of duty and It reached 37 ° on the cpu, while the phone was hotter, especially in the middle. I think this Is how It works, getting hot outside to be colder inside. Also I updated to firmware 2102.81 which helped a lot.
