[Q] Problem flashing ROM - Samsung Galaxy S (4G Model)

Ok I just find out that I can't seems to flash any BML rom except for MTD roms (CM9, cMUIU, AOKP, etc).
I have gone searching for answer and I'm not sure if the problem seems on just my phone. However, at one point, the first time that I have flashed a BML rom ,Valhalla Black, worked fine. Then I did Odin back to stock to KJ6 and from there everything seems to failed to flash. On previous post, I tried to flash Antonx Barebone and failed. I made sure that the mount on the system read "unmount system" then I went ahead and try the others and none seems to able to flash, I tried ICBINB v2, Unnamed and both failed as well.. then I went ahead and tried CM9 and voila it works.
I used T959VUVKJ6_STOCK-UVKJ6-One-Click to get it back to stock, reflashed with bootloader checked, then installed SGS kerner flasher to flash sms-T959V-KJ6-v0.1.1-rc1.zip and everything failed when I try to flash those BML roms.
Any one has an idea?

The One-Click you used is not rooted. Go back to the One-Click thread and flash AntonX's kernel that way. You need to be rooted for SGS Kernel Flasher. You were not rooted if you did the steps you posted. Flash the kernel then flash whatever ROM in CWM afterwards.

You could go lumins way with getting root access or just use superoneclick that's what I've done many times before or just run the gremlin remover

Well I skip the part to mention that I did root my phone.. I did manage to install any kernel but once I get into recovery to install the rom, it just fails.

Like I mention on my OP I was able to flash any MTD roms, the BML roms are the one giving me problems... they get stock in the Samsung galaxy s 4g logo
Sent from my SGH-T959V using xda app-developers app

Then run the Gremlin Remover and try again. Use a different USB port than the one you used Heimdall with. You will be rooted and have CWM. Then try flashing a BML ROM again

I did used gremlin remover try to flash icbinb and it fails...
Sent from my SGH-T959V using xda app-developers app

Try to redownload the rom it might be a bad download
Sent from my SGH-T959V using xda app-developers app

I downloaded numerous time since all the time I had to reformat the SD card just in case
Sent from my SGH-T959V using xda app-developers app

Finally after trying and trying numerous time... I almost gave up on it, I was finally able to flash BML roms. I did FB's [ODIN+CWM] GB Ext4 Starter Pack and from there, I flashed Antonx's Barebone and finally it boot up. I tried the others roms and it work just fine.
Thanks everyone.

Cannot odin stock SGS4G

I tried to flash a rom with CWM but i couldnt mount sd, it gave me an error, then phone would not boot. I got into download mode and am trying to ODIN back to stock, but all i get is the 3e recovery loop. any ideas? in the recovery (3e) after one flashes, it gives: E:cant mount /dev/block/st110; E:delete_files_for_s1_data:cant mount DATA; Cache wipe failed. any help would be appreciated
which rom are you flashing with odin?
open odin 1.7 first on your computer
put your phone in download mode
odin should detect it
use ODIN whitehawkx KC1 found on this page
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1117554
then just press start and wait for it to finish (approx. 2mins 35secs for me)
when its done, it will reboot you into the blue stock recovery and just reboot it and let the rom load for 10mins or so
i tried the stock KD1, the screen turned all blue one time, and when i threw my sd into my computer, it was in read-only state, and couldnt add or delete any files
Don't do kd1. go into the bible and find the noobs guide to odin. Follow those directions and you should be ok. Let me know how it goes

should i do KB5 custom or the KD1 + root? also, the kb5 gets hung at modem. I'm following the guide and only putting it in PDA in odin, and no PIT file
I did kb5 and it worked fine for me
Sent from my SGH-T959V using XDA Premium App
kb5 will not load all the way. kd1 gives me recovery loops. ive gotten kb5 to load, but does recovery loops, never boots into system
ok now try KC1
Kc1 worked
Sent from my SGH-T959V using XDA Premium App
Kc1 is the best to start with especially if you plan on flashing other roms like team whiskey's bionix roms or team acids icbinb don't forget , read read read.... and Check your mounts ;-)

Why doesnt kd1 work?
Sent from my SGH-T959V using XDA Premium App
I think kd1 had a corrupt partition

Bricked Phone

My son bricked his phone last night! I'm not familiar with samsung and odin at all. I have an evo and I'm always installing roms on my phone, so I'm aware of the process. Can someone please explain to me how to fix his device using odin. I have already installed the proper drivers and odin software. I'm not sure of what rom or where to get a stock rom from. I also dont know the process or steps to begin usin odin.
Thanks

from that link, go to the op, find the noobs guide to Odin and follow that. if you want, you can Odin to a different ROM. But I would suggest sticking with a froyo one until you know what you are doing

+1 on froyo...
Sent from my SGH-T959V using XDA App
One you Odin a ROM, Odin Bali 3.3, run ext4 converter and flash bionix frost or icbinb froyo. Or black ice.

I ran odin and used many types of rom and I keep getting a cache fail at the very end.
The repartition checked in Odin?
And kc1?
Sent from my SGH-T959V using XDA App
Use heimdall and don't flash the cache

Ok odin worked. But now its stuck on the boot image. I can boot into recovery but when I restart my sons phone, it gets stuck at the boot image. Im not sure what I'm doing wrong.

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1193751
and this
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1195878
odin it the first one
you'll boot to cwm
go to voodoo
disable lagfix and system.
factory reset clear cache
reboot.
put the second one on the root of your sd card
reboot recovery
flash audiophile(if your son like music he'll dig it).
Hope that works for you.
EDited to give audiophile some love

people still use those. SO last week. He says running audio ftw.
Just trying to point the guy in the get my phone fixed direction. I'll edit the post and make sure he boots to audio!
when they are talking about mounting, what does that mean. I see it in recocery, but when i select it, nothing happens.
Ok, I flashed the rom in recovery and it just sits on the splash screen. It's not boot looping, just sitting on the splash screen.
look up the noobs guide to odin in the bible and follow that. you should be up and running after that.

Flashing from stock?

I recently used bhundven's one click back to stock because of cm7 issues. I've tried flashing ICBINB I get Linda converting but it boot loops. Since i'm on stock I don't have cwm recovery to flash.where should I start?
Install a kernel with CWM in it. The list of custom kernels is in my guide, linked in my signature

[Q] Trying To Back Up Current ROM Using ROM Manager

Just installed ROM Manager (5.5.23) and flashed CWM Recovery (3.2.0.0)
Before I try and flash a new ROM, tried to use ROM Manager to backup current ROM.
Getting error message:
Failed to verify whole-file signature
Signature Verification Failed
Installation Aborted
Samsung Galaxy S 4G (sgh-t959v)
Froyo 2.2.1
Kernel 2.6.32.9
Rooted using Super 1 Click
Frankly, I think I'm way out of my league...the more I read, the more confused I get.
Any help or suggestions would be appreciated.
I also have Titanium Backup installed if that means anything.

Thanks, TwitchyEye...
I've read the articles...I'm still learning.
Before I experiment with installing any custom ROM's or
upgrading to GB, I wanted to make sure I had my existing
ROM backed up.
Apparently, I am unable to boot into CWM recovery.
If this helps, the recovery installed on the SD card is:
clockworkmod/download/download2.clockworkmod.com/recoveries/recovery-clockwork-3.2.0.0-galaxys4g.zip
I copied this file to my computer & unzipped it. It unzipped into 28 files, none of which was an
image file.
As I said before, maybe I'm way out of my league.
Thanks for the reply.
All you need to do is flash a rooted kernel with cwm already in it. Read the second post in lumin's guide. I think you are confused about how recovery works on this phone. It's in the kernel.
OK...as I understand it, I have to download a program called Odin and a
kernel and flash the kernel using Odin.
I do know how to get the phone into download mode.
I'm still a little nervous about doing this (although I was able to
root the phone without any problems).
Thanks again...
You have got to be adventurous when it comes to flashing. Luckily this phone is very hard to brick. Even if you get a boot loop with no cwm you can still one-click to stock and try again.

As I understand it, I need CWM recovery in order to back up my stock ROM...and ROM manager
is giving me all these error messages.
So...in order to get CWM recovery, I need to flash a custom kernel that includes it.
According to what I've read, I can either use Odin or SGS Kernel Flasher.
1. Which should I use
2. Which kernel should I select
Thanks...
Any particular reason you want to backup you stock ROM?

Don't worry....go for it. One clicked back myself like 6 times. Easy as pie!
Will flashing Bali 3.3 with SGS Kernel Flasher work?
You are over thinking things. Just do a one click to stock and start from there.

You gotta walk before you can run. One-Click yourself back to GB Stock and worry about it from there. That way, if you get screwed up, folks have a baseline to assist you from, and can "unwind" whatever it is you have managed to do to yourself.

[SOLVED] Help!!! can't get into clockworkmod recovery

Okay! i soft bricked my phone, reflashed to stock (gingerbread 2.3.6) with heimdall, Rooted. Installed Rom manager and CWM from it.
But everytimes i try to get into recovery, it's Android system recovery <3e> and not CWM.
This is really driving me crazy.
Well rom manager is known as rom mangler for this phone.
If you are on GB use heimdall to return to stock. Then use heimdall to load a custom GB rooted kernel to get CWM on it. From there you can choose to do CM9 or etc
