Hi, can anyone help me solve this problem. I'm getting poor battery life from my Nexus S (stock 4.0.4) & android OS using a lot of battery. I've narrowed it down to WiFI - when I turn WiFi on, the battery depletes much faster than when I'm on 3G & android OS goes from ~7% to ~20% in battery stats. This is the opposite way around from what I would expect based on other posts, which say that WiFi uses less power than 3G. You can see the effect in the screenshot - for the entire time on this screenshot, I was at work with good 3G coverage & the WiFi point is right outside my office:

Any suggestions?
I agree with you, stock 4.0.4, Matr1x kernel (but I get same results with Air kernel too) and wifi always on = poor battery life.
My workaround is keeping it off and switching it on only just before an autosync or when opening browser/Gmail (I do that with Tasker)
When WiFi is in use what are you doing?

Essentially nothing. I checked the odd email, but for the most part the phone was in my pocket doing nothing.
have you got a background service that only runs on wifi?
also, in my experience, 3g only uses more battery when you're actually receiving data (e.g. browsing, data sync).
to me your battery stats don't look that bad, so my theory is that because you don't use your phone that much, anything that uses just a little bit of battery makes a big difference in battery use percentage.
but then again, I could be completely wrong...

Well one thign is for sure battery will always die faster on the network because most of the time if your in bad service areas it trys to fight for service therefore shi**ier battery life.
But @ Richstant do you disable mobile data manually like. For example because my NS4G is just deactivated on my Epic 4G i manually disable data and re enable when i use something so i save battery life.
I switched my sleep policy to while plugged in now. The difference with just switching the wifi on and off is really insane for me.
The way WiFi works while screen is off is hopeless on the Nexus S. I think it may be exagerrated because of the guzzling hardware as it seems no different on the GN or SGS3, though they dont drain nearly as much (i thought otherwise at first, unsure if it's on a phone-by-phone basis though). WiFi likes to stay on even if you set sleep policy otherwise - look at it funny and it will stay on and drain. This is something that i hope will improve in JB, but i doubt it. For now, best bet is set to Never (or plugged in, same effect) and switch it off manually if you won't be using it for long periods of time.
WiFi uses less power for large amounts of data and even browsing. It's faster, it doesn't need to send extra power and there is less thrashing to find the best signal. Data, however, is technically always there anyway as the radio is always powered, so if it only needs small amounts of constant data, it is often better for battery if you have good reception. This is one thing we i don't think we'll be worried about in newer phones, thankfully.

I'd forgotten about that setting, I'll try it now. In the past it's not worked for me though - the WiFi just stays on all the time no matter what.

Thanks for the info - sounds like it might be just the way this handset is :-( I don't remember it being this way under gingerbread, the WiFi turned off properly when it slept then, and battery life was much better.

You don't have any apps set to auto-upload or backup anything (e.g. Dropbox Camera Uploads, G+ Instant Upload) once it connects to Wifi do you?

Hmm, that option worked fine for me, when I unlock the phone, there's a 1-2 second delay before the wifi icon comes up, if I am not plugged in, that is.
I have latitude on all the time, I am suspecting that latitude is the one that causes my battery drain WHILE wifi is on, since there's just too much wifi hotspots around here, and if latitude is triggered everytime there's a new wifi hotspot discovered, then it will have a lot of updating to do. Using the sleep mode doesn't cut down the number of wakelocks (reported by BetteryBatteryStats) that those LocationServices triggers however, but battery life does seemed to be saved, especially on the days where I rarely use my phone.

I would look at this also. If there is an app that has some connection with wifi (i think this would be done through intents but i'm not very familiar), it may either keep wifi on or awaken it from sleep periodically (where it looks like other apps/features take over and continue using it instead of shutting it off immediately). Maps and something from Android OS or Android System seem to be main culprits if the battery page is to be believed. BetterBatteryStats can help, but haven't gained that much information in regard to wifi - though is priceless in most other areas.
Edit: Didn't see the last post (got distracted lol). That could be it. Note that in BBS you should also look at the number of wakeups, not just the time wakelocked. Obviously you can rack up a lot of wakeup attempts and still show only 1s of actual wakelock, but it adds up immensely from there - particularly when some other apps are triggered because they are notified wifi is temporarily "active" when it shouldn't be. Also, these are my experiences and not coding fact, so take them with a grain of salt and listen to those wiser than I
Well I'm pleased to say I got a serious improvement in battery life by setting wifi to off when not in use (except when charging). I tried that under 4.0.3 & it didn't work, but it seems to work correctly under 4.0.4.
wow, I didn't even know there was a "wifi on during sleep only when plugged in" option. I knew juice defender and other similar apps did something like that, but didn't know it was built into ICS (or CM9 )
thanked for the tip

So after disabling Google Services under location settings, I noticed my battery lasting much longer. It felt like it wasn't burning through battery as fast when using the phone and especially when the phone was just on standby. The phone feels more efficient and I got almost 32 hours of battery life. This was not all standby, I would call it moderate use with a lot of texting, tinkering, even Wifi tethering for half an hour.
Try it and let us know. Screenshot as evidence.

As a quick background for those who don't know, disabling that option means that the device will no longer use wifi hotspots as a location mechanism. It shouldn't affect outdoor location accuracy under normal circumstances. It may affect time-to-fix or accuracy in areas with a high density of tall buildings and skyscrapers. Most won't notice a difference in location performance, but it's important to be aware of what the changes are doing.
I tried it but lost my Google contacts and when I defrosted it I had to re-sign into Google.

Defrosted? Did you freeze it? You just have to go under settings and disable it.

Yeah... From personal experience, I wouldn't recommend freezing any system apps via Titanium. Basically anything that's in red font. It never turns out good lol.
I think the main reason this drains battery while wifi is off is that it constantly reports your location. Turn it off and back on and read the message.
Just want to let you guys know that I have 2 Charges, one belonged to my daughter and it last for days without any mod(stock) and she installed a lot of apps on it. Mine is the unlucky one, if I used it straight without taking any breaks in between(navigating through contatcts for editing/updating/delete and a 15min phone call), a full charge battery lasted 3hrs and 20min. I have tried every combinations of Mods(V6,smoothness,Thunderbold etc.), ROMs (tweakstock,eclipes,stock-deodex) and kernel(imomosey4.0, Imnuts PBJT 1115,013012) and NO help. I think this has a "silicon" issue. So I give this google service a try to see if it's help. I disabled google service through settings and left the phone over night.(from 2am-7am), I checked at 7am and battery showed 97%(3% drops for 5hrs). I then used the phone constantly and it drained to zero in about 3hrs20min. So in sleep mode, it's not bad, but not help in working mode, for my phone that is. I'm going to swap out this phone for another one with Verizon.

That's just a waste of battery Also it probably keeps some service running killing the battery as well
Just uncheck the ticker for this experiment guys, also it takes a battery cycle to notice the change

For a full battery cycle, should we let the battery drain completely, and then get to full charge? Or can we just let it get down to 10-15%, and then charge it?
Thanks for the idea. Timing is great, since my Charge is suddenly running through the battery in 4-6 hours, where it used to go 8-10 or more.
So i turned this off and i couldn't get a location at all. Turned it back on and location came back. I had full service.

Yes, the general cell tower based location will not work. However the real GPS lock will work, it just takes a long time on this phone.
Try the app Speedview. I turn that on, it locks in in about 5-10 seconds. I have it running in the background (run in background setting) then open Maps. Get instant location because the GPS already has a lock

I think is Verizon's version of Google Services. It must be on if you try to use VZ navigator that I know. Also when I tried unchecking it, it took a bit longer to get a lock.
Not really. I've never noticed any difference with it on or with it off (I'm referring to standalone GPS NOT Google services!)

Seriously? You don't think verizon knows where your phone is? Just having it on makes it possible for them to track it.
Also I have unchecked them with no change. Those being checked won't effect your battery unless you have some app that is accessing your location in the background. In which case it would be helpful to have them checked, as it would find a location quicker.

I'm not "that" naive mate...I know they know my whereabouts anyway. I was just stating the point that I have never messed with that check box.
Also.....battery usage will always vary depending on a million variables...list too long to write it down.
It has been the most discussed topic on this site beside the usual "I HAZ BRICK NAO...JELP ME PLIS, I ROOTED AND NO POWAH!"
If anyone really wants to improve battery life...use on of these:
Mine still has some charge from back when I use to use it

turning this off disabled my weather widget, so that kinda sucks.
I've had my skyrocket for about a month now, and I've had horrible horrible battery life compared to all of you guys on here. I've tried reflashing, did the whole .3e recovery/ wipe/ fresh install tutorial that Seanz posted. (Amazing rom by the way.)
Nothing seems to work. I've calibrated my battery at least 4 different times. Oh, and for Seanz, You say your rom is 2.3.5, but in my settings it says 2.3.6. My brightness is all the way down, My data, bluetooth, gps, etc are ALL OFF! Only thing I keep on is wifi, ALWAYS. I've tried leaving my phone off the charger all night and locked to see if the drain was the same, and it is, If not just a tad less drain. I'm sorry if I didn't clarify this good enough, If someone could help me out I'd be glad to explain myself better!
Does your phone maintain a strong to moderate signal (both data and talk)? This includes the strength of your WiFi connection. I've noticed one of the biggest (if not the biggest) drain on this phone and most others comes when the phone is strugling for a decent connection. If you can, try this: put your phone in "Airplane" mode for 1 charging cycle. This means your phone won't even try to get a wireless connection of any type. To be safe, make sure the "WiFi" is off as well. See how long the battery lasts compared to it not being in "Airplane" mode. If it still sucks, you might need to see which app(s) are draining your phone. If it is noticably different, a weak signal might be the problem. Good luck.

He changed it only in text for certain apps that require Android 2.3.6, even though they'd work completely fine on 2.3.5. Somewhat an easy workaround. Also took some of the features from 2.3.6 in. It's still built from 2.3.5 though.

Thiiiis is probably your big issue. If you have any apps running in the background that use data, they can keep the wifi awake, which, in turn, never lets your phone sleep. If you go to Settings>Wireless and network>Wi-fi Settings>Menu Button>Wi-Fi Sleep Policy, and set it to "When screen is off," you'll be AMAZED at how much life it can save. I've noticed drastic differences when that setting is applied. As far as without it losing around 10-15% overnight to a mere 1%.
Thanks for your replies! I'll try you guys' ideas out now. I seem to lose about 1-3 percent every 10 minutes. I'll put it in airplane mode and try it for an hour.
Thank you Fortune! was wondering how to do this, You could have just solved my problem. I'll keep you guys informed! I'm amazed at this communities helpfulness. Thank you!
No prob!
Though, next time, if you have a question, should post it in the Q&A section of this forum. People tend to get a bit pissy about seeing Q's posted in other places, haha. Just giving a heads up!
Hope those fixes fix your battery life! That wifi sleep on has been key for my 30+ hr battery lives on SkyICS.
Seemed to not help :| Since I've done this, It's gone from 22% to 17% in about 15-20 minutes. No apps running, etc.
Try downloading CPU Spy from the market place and after awhile of letting it rest (about an hour or so), open it, refresh and check to see the CPU uses the "Deep Sleep" frequency at all and to see which frequencies it spends most of its time in.
Also wouldn't hurt to check Settings>About Phone>Battery Use to see what's using most of your battery life. Display, Android System, and Android OS typically hold the top 3 spots, so if anything is up there (or at a close 4th), that app could be what's bogging it down.
I downloaded CPU Spy and it seemed to already have data for it and it says 4% in deep sleep, 65% in 38 mhz, 5% in 810 MHz, and 1% in 1026 mhz, 17% in 1728 MHz

Alright, well so far so good. Shows it's at least getting some deep sleep and able to idle in low frequencies. Can't really get TOO well of a reading until it's done some time with it idling though.
Do not set wifi policy to screen off, keep it at always. this will keep your data using wifi when connected which is way less of a drain than the 4g radio. Basically with the screen off policy your phone will still use data, it will just come from cellular instead of wifi when screen is off.

the real issue is when i actually stop being on wifi. when my phone uses data connection, mostly LTE because its everywhere around me, the battery life becomes miserable. I left the house for about 1 hour today, you can clearly see it on the graph. I should try to cut all connectivity and just allow the phone to sync every now and then, im sure ill be able to add another half a day at least to my already 1.5 days with wifi on all the time

Yeah, data is a KILLER. For me, it's usually wifi or nothing, unless I'm trying to send or receive an MMS, or need to quickly access the Internet, but I turn it back off as soon as I'm done, and I set my network to no LTE because it's not in my area.
Just take that as a note OP, lol.

SkyIce 7.3 Speed
This is my usage when i dont touch LTE
I have been having really terrible battery on my AT&T HTC One X. I have had it for over a month now and it has not lasted nearly as long as some other users who posted their battery stats.
I have tried several things to try to improve my battery, including turning off auto-sync and turning off the mobile network for almost all day long. I have tried stock, CleanROM 3.1 DE, and Sick Sense HOXL (in which I used the CPU editor to set it to battery saver mode). I have been able to stretch the battery life out to last about an hour extra with the CPU editor, but still nowhere near where I have seen others at.
My battery lasts about 14-15 hours maximum and about 2 hours of screen usage at most, but that is rare. Some days my battery lasts less than 10 hours and not even an hour of screen time. On these days the battery will drop 3%-5% at a time, sometimes even 10% at a time.
I really don't want to go to AT&T and exchange the phone if I don't have to, but I do have a warranty on it. I get a high percentage of screen use and am not sure if that is normal. Could it possibly be that my screen is not completely turning off?
I am posting pics and a logcat file to help determine the issue. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

i swear this thread comes up every day
I have looked through the forum to see if there is anything related, but most seem to say their battery gets hot. I don't have that problem. Maybe it is just AT&T's LTE that drains the battery too quickly? I want to be sure there is nothing wrong with the phone though because some days it drops way too quickly. If I turn off the phone and turn it back on, I lost a tremendous amount of battery. It seems weird to me.

Chrome was murdering my battery before the update, now it still kills it. I did a full run with it install. I never opened it and it used 10% of my battery. Doesn't seem like that's your problem though. But just monitor for any rogue apps.
I've been using Bad ass Battery stats to keep track of stuff. Its been a bit helpful but like you, I get about 15 -20 hours before I have to consider plugging it in. Some weather Widgets really kick the crap out of the battery so keep that in mind.
Idk how people pull off these 24hrs+ times but I'm a bit jealous.

I have tried the APN method to switch off LTE, but the method is sort of unreliable as it drops the network too frequently. I tried it for a day, but the results were similar. Any other method or should I just test it for longer?

I used this method for a while as well, but yes, the network drops are annoying. The battery on the One X is very inconsistent. You may want to try swapping your unit to see if you can do better.
Another thing, there are issues with LTE when you drop/regain signal, it starts draining like crazy sometimes.
I'm still trying to determine if I've got a defective unit or not. My battery drains fast, but maybe I'm to blame?
From 100% charge, I'm down to 45% after 4.5 hours, 2 hours and 20 minutes of screen time.
54% screen
27% calls
7% chrome
6% maps (why the hell is this always running anyway?)
Any thoughts?

There really are tons of threads talking about this, with battery temperature comments only being a fraction of those. search for the Battery Stats XL Edition thread. Not only does it have a ton of reports on good battery life, but TONS of info on how people achieve that and what they have found ot be helpful. There are numerous other threads you can find in a search. I have only seen one scenario where my battery drains remarkably quickly, and that's an issue with my corporate exchange email and is pretty sporadic (1 time every couple weeks, maybe slightly more).
Looks like you have one image in the OP that shows an extensive amount of WiFi-on time. that can really drain. screen brightness is another thing. I stay at 20% max, less if i can handle it. The app Brightness Toggle Widget is AWESOME for me...simple and makes it easy to keep phone at 20% (my normal level) but increase as ambient lighting dictates (like being outside). here are some more basic suggestions that i use to maintain easily a full day+ of battery. (running stock sense).
-disabled crapware (most att services, city id, google stuff I dont use, etc.)
-20% brightness most of the time
-wi-fi, GPS, BT off unless needed (LTE burns anyway!)
-syncing 1 gmail, 1 exchange account
-only running a couple of live widgets
-disabled live weather in pretty much every place possible as this can fry battery
-swipe away unused apps relatively frequently
these are mega-basic ideas but i've had no consistent battery problems and get great life. also, check your full charge voltage level using *#*#4636#*#* and confirm you are starting around 4187mV and have a healthy battery. it's also remarkably possible that you just got a phone with a poor battery/battery function. another thought is that i see you pulling some pretty low cell signal (only 1 bar LTE in one of those shots, 3 in a few others). That's not great and could kill more battery that you can easily tell. I'm in LTE and rarely see as little as 3 bars of service. if you are on the fringe of good signal that can really do you in. checked log file and nothing jumps out, but i'm not the most reliable source for interpreting that data. hope this helps in some way.

I have most bloatware disabled, at least everything that I was capable of disabling. My brightness is set to auto, I can try with it lower and see how that works (still not sure why my screen percentage shows to be so high, I have seen others with the phone and it stays much much lower like 20-30% and over 3 hours of use). I have auto-sync off and no live widgets running, I only use the sense clock/weather widget, but weather doesn't update unless I manually open it since auto-sync is off. I am also constantly swiping away unused apps and the only one that is ever really open is messaging because I use it more than anything else.
I really don't want to go swap my phone out unless there really is a problem with it, which is why I posted here. I need to find out of it is something hardware related, such as a defective battery or screen, rather than software related and capable of fixing.

My phone went from 90% batt to 0% in 5h of screen off time. Usage shows Android OS 60% and SopCast 30%.
When i locked the phone i left it on the home screen.
So who's to blame? The rom, kernel or the app?
could you please provide a bit more detail like what kernel or rom you have and also if you could upload screenshot of battery usage

Anyway this is no longer related to that obscene 90% overnight bcuz i uninstalled sopcast. Now i just had 16% drain overnight (with Wi-Fi off) which is still a lot imo.
Having 18% drain overnight on JB with wi-fi off. Any ideas?
Why are turning wifi off in the first place? That is stupid if you're trying to extend battery life.
What is your cell signal like. A crappy cell signal drains battery. A crappy 3g signal that is constantly on because you turned off wifi drains even more.

i was under the impression (from gingerbread times) that wi-fi uses up more battery than 3g; this was among the tips you would find back then on android sites to extend battery life.
Anyway, i have yet to find out who is calling the AlarmManager that is keeping the device awake. Any idea how i would go about doing that?

What ROM?
What kernel?
Any other modes or tweaks?
Vs Nexus S 4G using Tapatalk 2
I didn't mention that info so far because the initial problem of this post is fixed (SopCast (podcast app) keeping phone in stream mode) by uninstalling the said app.
Now, i believe that the overnight drain on my current JB ROM is too high.
So, here it is: Rom is Grean Bean ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1821478 ), kernel is Matr1x 22.5 (but the drain didnt change when i changed kernel (beladus, _thalamus, air) and the significant mods that the rom has are V6 supercharged and brainmaster's twks.

That was not the case in GB times or any times. Either you read wrong or the sites are stupid. Considering that for the most part the android sites / bloggers are still idiots today, who knows.
Anyways. WiFi uses the least battery. Less the 3g/2g. Should be used whenever possible to save battery. Phone in active use or idle you should be connected to WiFi over cellular data. Turning all radios off but enabling WiFi is the most battery efficient thing you can do and still have data but you won't have the actual phone. I do that at my buddies house where I get no service at all. Not going to use the phone for a couple hrs use airplane mode. That uses very little power if the phone is sleep. Turning the phone off and on uses more.
Also the better your signal is the less power the phone will use. You still gave no signal strength info. Frankly you're wasting your time with better battery stats and wakelocks etc when you don't fully grasp this radio stuff. Use that tool when you need to find something that keeps your phone awake when idle/not in deep sleep.

That's the situation i'm in. It seems i've solved it by figuring out which apps were calling the AlarmManager and the Media server, there were 2 actually: Latitude and Google Music Sync, that were waking too often. Now i've simply disabled them.
I didn't give any signal strength info, bcuz i didn't move and didn't change the radio. It's a jelly bean thing for sure (i have google now disabled). Many users have been complaining (in various rom threads) about this new found drain after the upgrade.

Yeah, I normally play with a new ROM bare boned to see if has a natural drain.
Then I add the apps that I have been using that I know do not drain battery life.
And the other person is dead in with the signal advice. I had a HTC hero before and it had many tweaks on fixing the signal so battery would last. Which is why I love the pull down notification bar and some ROMs have idle timers.
Good luck

I got my Z5 this monday and the first day it worked like a charm. Then it started to drain the battery faster than usual, if I browse the web or reddit with the Reddit Now! app - my battery starts to drain about 2% every minute or so. I first checked if I had any sync issues but there was none then I started to delete all apps I did not need. Still the same issue. Today I barely used my phone, only 3 hours of SOC but it was not heavy usage. I only use WhatsApp, Reddit Now, Chrome and Snapchat(almost never) and today the only thing that should've had an impact on the battery was WhatsApp. Somehow the WiFi shows as "on" but I never use WiFi when at school - so basically everything between 08:00 and 16:00 was pure 4G.
I really love this phone, but the battery is not what they promised. And it gets really hot during normal use! Here is some pictures, hope you guys can help me figure this out...

Yeah, that is strange because my previous phone LG G3 had perfect network signal... I've heard from other Z5 users that the network signal is bad on the phones..
The battery is varying almost too much for my taste... However I have found one of the sources for the problem - Spotify is a huge battery drain, dropping almost 3% every minute and heats up the phone to the point of no touching...
Having Facebook notifications on also causes big drain
Sent from my Xperia z5 by Tapatalk
You're absolutely not alone.. I also have abysmal battery life on my Z5.
Here's my stats from yesterday (full day at work)
h ttp://imgur.com/VF2b45g (remove the space)
WiFi, 3hrs 20mins SoT.
Battery lasted pretty much exactly 12hours, thats pretty far from 2 days promised by Sony. My old Z3 didn't have me worry about my battery at the end of the day, I knew it would last..
(Yes i have bad reception at my job (I work in a TV studio) but again, my Z3c handled that like a champ.
I HATE myself so much for jumping the wagon early. I expected the same exceptional battery life as my old Z3, only in a shiny new package. To say im unimpressed and incredibly disappointed is an understatement of proportions.
I'm currently fighting for a full refund and cancellation of my subscription from my carrier. Considering a Oneplus2, despite it also running the 810, which many seem to point to as the culprit for our battery life.
You really should get a new Z5, then. I haven't encountered any of those issues, but regarding the battery, maybe a full cycle charge could improve some things. Aside from that, I reckon to install Clean Master, just to see which apps are running in background constantly so you can end them. Worst case scenario, perform a factory reset.
Uninstall anything you've installed and disable any system apps you will never ever want or need and run it for a couple days and see how it is. Then start installing the apps you want again

This is my 4th Z5 actually
They all had this battery problem, they've all been through at least one full cycle as well. Done factory resets, also reinstalled firmware from PC Companion. Tried WiFi ON, OFF, doesn't matter, when ever i turn the screen on i get massive drain upwards of 1% per minute/2minutes. Autobrightness (45/50%)
Today stats: h ttp://imgur.com/6K45leg (again remove the space , thanks Obama!)
Android system and Kernel are top users in battery. Screen is 3rd.....
Sure, 55% in 11 hours is pretty good, but not with a little under 2hrs SoT.... SONY IM DISAPPOINTED!!
1st: Camera button was dead on arrival
2nd: Wonky loose power button, ****ty battery
3rd: ****ty battery, Stamina mode didn't work
4th: Working okay, deep sleeps, but drains insane amounts when screen is on, doing nothing, browsing, reddit etc.
I assume you still have not solved your issue? I'm getting almost identical stats on my Z5 in GSam.

Sadly no.. I'm getting approx 2.5H of SOT... I've tried many things, nothing helps. And the battery usage still reports my WiFi being on even though I turn WiFi off and all background scanning.. I'm getting really annoyed that Sony pretty much lied to us about the battery.. But I feel like the problem lies with the constant WiFi on, even though it is off.

Yup I have similar problems as well. Wifi won't turn on, and getting about 2.5hrs SoT out of a 100% juiced battery.
Maybe you 2 should try a full reset and completely re set up from scratch?
Sent from my Xperia z5 by Tapatalk
The battery seems to have "settled". I use these " " because some days the battery drains faster than water in the desert, and some days it lasts pretty much more than 4H SOT. Maybe there is some software issue? Because my WiFi is on 24/7 even when I HAVE disabled it and disabled all related settings to WiFi...
I have the same issues with wifi reporting on in the battery stats even if I turn it off. It doesn't show on in GSAM battery monitor so not sure what that's about. It also consistently reports low signal on the battery page and on my notification bar, whereas my Z3 reported high signal in the same place. If I do a speed test on 4G the speed is about the same, so I think that might be an issue with the displaying of signal rather than it not picking up much signal. My battery life is "OK", in that it will last 24-28 hours usually. My Z3 was quite a lot better.
I seem to have crappy mobile connection too. I game, watch videos and so on and get excellent battery life
I got the app greenify it shuts down all the apps for you or u can get it to do so before putting phone back in pocket, it has helped as I'm the same, battery drains in 6 hours max...
Facebook and messenger seem to take a lot of battery , Iv had Windows and iPhone they don't drain like this... Must be android system

Not even Airplane Mode is enough to stop WiFi showing up on my battery usage stats. Turning off "Network notification" (Notify whenever a public network is available) under Advanced Wi-Fi seems to do the trick though.
The only other gap in Wi-Fi battery usage appear to be my commute to work in a car - no Wi-Fi on the motorway so the OS must be truly turning Wi-Fi off then too. Sitting in an office with who knows how many Wi-Fi signals about must be keeping it on (only when the aforementioned Network notification setting is on).
I don't have any particular battery issues - I get a full day no problem - but maybe this is the reason that Sony's claimed 2-day battery seems a fantasy to me...
Let's clear this up, Sony never promised 2 days battery life, they stated "UP TO" 2 days battery life. ahead signal is going to drain the battery fast, if your like me and live in a crossover point of towers the phone is probably constantly switching between them. On an old phone I sat and watched it switching towers. Anyway my battery drains reasonably fast and the phone wasn't going to sleep but it's started to now, and I'm getting battery life then my previous phone, so I'm still happy about it and I'm a pretty heavy user with games, browsing etc.
