I was having the same problem. Mabye disabling LTE and renableing it forcing it to look for signal constantly is part of the problem. All I know for sure is it was causing huge problems with my battery life.
I think the general consensus is that most battery saver apps don't really help as they are constantly trying to kill and disable stuff while your OS may try to re-enable them. I would get an app like Tasker instead and setup tasks to enable/disable your radio at certain times instead.

But you can do that with Juice Defender, and really, that's all it does unless you enable app controls.
I've been using JD on my HOX for over a month, and it makes a noticeable difference.
I do have the Ultimate version. I have not used the free version so cannot speak to that one.
It might be your LTE that's killing your battery and not juice defender.

LTE does not kill the battery on this phone. I am connected to and using LTE all day, every day and my battery life is amazing.
Agreed, LTE for me isn't the battery killer, I'm on it all day everyday.
I've used in the past JD on other handsets and found them to suck the power.

On the snapdragon S4 devices lte radio is built on the chip and uses less power than Verizon lte because there's just one radio vs two. Vzw phones have to fall back to evdo and use cdma for calls. So far this means two radios. I don't know if this changes with the S4 based Vzw phones.
Has anyone else noticed that when you're making a call LTE service goes away? It drops back to normal 4g.

Pretty sure it does this to save batter you don't need LTE to make calls
I found because I unlock my phone every couple minutes, that juice defender toggling all my signal services is what drained the hell out of my phone. Just uninstall it. Turn off mobile data when you don't use it, and WiFi when you can, and your battery life will be golden. I usually get about 3 hours of screen on time. Which isn't bad IMO.

I ran my HOX without Juice Defender for the first few days that I had it to get a sense for stock battery life. It was great and I was excited to get even more duration from it with JD. After a few days using JD and getting much worse battery life, I removed it and was back to normal.
Note: I live in a non-LTE area.

I agree with this. No one should use Juice Defender!
Juice defender just turns off data when the screen is off... Which can be done manually anyways.
Or am I missing something?

Juice defender is just another app that will help drain the battery
Download DX toolbox and you can turn off background apps and other advanced settings.

Hi all.
Looking for some serious help. Coming from a Samsung vibrant. I need help with how to save battery life on the sensation. I have been off charger for 5 hours and 51 minutes and am down to 41%. Is this normal? I have been only texting really. I got my data from battery monitor.
Thanks in advance. Anyway to make this better?

It all depends on what you're using the phone for. I'm at 55% after 12 hours. yesterday I got 17 hours. if all you're doing us texting then no,thats not normal. but I suspect you're probably doing more with it than you realize since its a new toy.

Stop Android from phoning home and you'll save greatly on battery life.
Best way I've found to prevent battery drain, is to stop Android from phoning home.
Once you use an app like Autostarts to stop unnecessary things from starting up all the time on their own and also block a couple ports that are not always needed via an app like DroidWall, you'll see great battery life. Also see other details in that link of things I turned off to increase battery life amoung other benefits.
For now, I can only speak for seeing the difference while using a Nexus One ROM on my HD2, but I have way better battery life, GPS lock times and faster device boot ups than ever before.
This is yet another one of the reasons I must wait till the Sensation is rooted and unlocked. Because I'm not using it while it's running things I can't better manage, so they don't drain my battery.

Well to be honest for the 8 hours I'm at work, I use it light. texting, a few calls and about 30 minutes of reading pulse and playing games. However the next 8-9 hours I would consider moderate to heavy use. I have no monitors or anything running, just running straight out of the box.
I'm at 34% after 14.5 hours today.
I charged it fully the first day, ran it to 0, then charged it fully again last night.

I think mine's even worse. Phone was off charger at 100% at 11am, by 1:30PM it's already down to 80%ish. By 4PM it was down to 40%ish, got it charged up to about 70%ish around 6PM, by midnight I was around 6% again.
So I think I'm losing around 10%/hr. That's gotta be abnormal, and the battery gets really hot too. At the moment, I have several speculations:
1. Death grip causing the phone to work harder to find signal, and tmo's coverage kinda sucks in my town
2. I have defective unit/battery
3. Some apps behind the scene are killing it. But I've checked what's running behind, even turned off unnecessary stuff using autorun manager. Auto sync is turned of only for gmails. Weather, IMAP mails, pulse, facebook etc are set to pull in couple hrs instead hourly. The battery life cannot be worse than my 2-yr old HD2.
Hey guys. Have you considered bump charging. HTC advised the idea for the HTC desire battery and it in most cases doubles the battery.
Sorry I can't be more specific bit I'm on my phone. I have found the relevant link. Read the 1st post. I'm gonna do it when I get in from my gig.

Bump charging kills the battery in long run.
If you have to do it to a brand new handset it can't be good news.

I'd suggest uninstalling battery monitor. I had installed it on my g2x and immediately saw my battery percentage drajning more quickly. Probably because its always running in the background.
The best tip I can give for better battery life is to minimize what you allow to run in the background. Get rid of any task killers, set Facebook/Twitter/Email/etc to sync less frequently, turn off wifi if you're not using it so its not scanning for networks, and so on.
Also install juice defender from the Market. Its free. It has greatly increased my battery life.

Also check your installed apps some of them tend to stay active even after you "quit" them (you can't actualy quit). Download "system panel" for that, and you will see in te left of an app if it uses the cpu Even if an app is there is not actualy draining battery, only if it uses the cpu.
So don't use task killers, they will only drain you more battery.

Have you tried the tiamat kernel? Also, I recommend investing in Tasker to squeeze the most out of your battery. Simply having it automatically go into airplane mode when you sleep helps. Get it (like me) turning auto-sync on for 2 minutes every 15 minutes aswell, and you get over 24 hours battery with heavy use.

Use this to track down the battery drain...
https://market.android.com/details?id=com.asksven.betterbatterystats
And/or this...

If it's data traffic related this'll point you at which specific app is using it...

Then either un-install the culprit, or try different kernel, or freeze the sucka using Titanium Backup. See if that helps. Either way, would be interested to know what you discover.
1% per minute is scary drain I agree. Something not quite right there. You're not OC to silly levels are you?
Yes, the new lbc ROM gas a drainage problem... Mine was dropping very fast. Switched back to leedroid, great battery life again! (Stock kernel) I also use setcpu

what was your talk time and how was the service where you were located. Talking draws almost as much battery as the screen, so if you were on the phone for an hour or so it would likely be equivalent.

Do a hard reset and charge the phone up fully before using it. If that doesn't work exchange it for a new one.
Also make sure all haptic feedback is turned off. When you aren't using data for several hours make sure to turn that off as well, especially if you are in an LTE area.

Does haptic feedback really affect battery that much? I wish there was an lte toggle
Sent from my HTC One X using Tapatalk 2
Tooany variables affect it.
- Do you set screen brightness to the highest?
- Do you live in an area with patchy signals?
- What was included in 2 hour screen time?
When surfing on WiFi with 40% brightness, I lose about 1% current in about 3.5 - 4 min. If that is the range than yours might be fine or mine is also screwed up.

doesn't seem to abnormal to me...2 hours screen time with over an hour talk time is pretty decent over a full day. My only gripe would be to turn brightness down to about 20% unless you are needing to use your phone outside all day. it is more than sufficient and your eyes get used to it quickly. saves a ton of battery.
I am getting anywhere between 2:30-3:30 screen time with about a half hour of talk time. so many variables its hard to nail down, but try out what ppl have suggested. I also turned off haptic feedback the moment I got the phone. check how many apps you have syncing as well. that can eat up battery especially with bad coverage.
good luck
Luckily I'm in a non lte area. Avg 4 hours of screen time. Battery lasts me a couple of days, but I don't use my phone much. When custom roms hit there will be a lte on/off switch.

Google around for HSPA+ only APNs for AT&T. When you enter them, be sure to put an asterisk in the "APN Type" field, otherwise the phone won't let you select that APN set.
That's how I got LTE to shut off on my phone.

Edit:
I tried the APN setting suggested in this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1652705&page=3

Though, it should be noted with the S4 chipset that turning off LTE doesn't net you as much battery life as it used to. Though it does help with the network drops if you experience them. (I have.)
In response to the thread, though: My battery life has jumped the shark since updating to 1.85. Like, I was getting close to 17 hours mixed-use before my phone was in the red. Now, I'm lucky to get 8. I'm running it through a few more charge cycles just to make sure, but it seems pretty nasty.

After: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/4940279/images/after.jpg (1.85)
Notice I had to charge the phone halfway into the 8 hours just to keep it from dropping completely.

Over longer periods of time, yes Juice defender will save you battery. Shorter periods, the difference is negligible.
Also, the articles about battery savers not saving battery only referred to some that were poorly coded and implemented. I do not believe Juice Defender was on the list.

Just turn off mobile data if you know you're not going to use it for a while and you're basically accomplishing the same thing. No need for an app to run in the background to do it for you. I used to use JD back in the OG EVO days and yeah it helped, but with this phone it is definitely NOT needed. We are way past that point now.

Yes, it isn't about the phone or the OS, it's about the apps. The key feature of Juice Defender IMO is the ability to put limits on what apps can use data and when. Rather than having your radios fire up every time an app wants something, you're able to exercise some control.
That's what I was thinking as well. Was thrown off as someone had posted an easter egg finding by using quick shortcuts to open the "Power Savings Settings" menu on the HOXL. So it made me think that the Rom itself had the features like turning Wifi off when not in use baked in. I'm using Juice Defender and just took my time configuring apps and it seems to be doing it's job well. x's 1.73 at the moment. Thanks for the feedback
id suggest letting your OS manage your battery ive tried it all and always had issues. i get 13.5 hours of use with 39% battery life remaining. this was with moderate use though the day. checking txts and calls with some internet fun too. I am also on WCX roms

They do keep us occupied ...... for about a week. That's worth something I guess.

The battery on my phone is going iPhone-ish, I need one of the battery saving apps, Are there any decent ones yet?
I would try Bataria from the market. Its free, and doesn't use much resources to do its job. I think the best is to manually adjust different settings on your phone. Same results, nothing running in the background to do it.
I am using Greenpowe.
Battery apps are usually crap. The only ones that really work are the ones that modify how your phone's software works. And those almost always require root access.
If by chance you are rooted, I recommend SetCPU, Autostarts and Autokiller. SetCPU will allow you to set profiles such as throttling while the screen is off, which will save you a ton of battery. Autostarts will stop custom apps from starting with your phone's OS, which leads to less background processes. And Autokiller will ensure that you have plenty of free memory for less tasks being killed and restarted. That alone has the potential to make a huge difference in your battery life.
I'm not trying for snarky, but
An app can't save battery by running
But you can save battery by turning something off

I totally agree.
My uncle uses juice defender, but I think it's better for the battery to manage everything yourself.

yeah I've been using Juice Defender. It does save some battery life.
If you have a horrible phone like mine, juice defender ultimate works wonders. My LG optimus m gets about 12 hours of life without it, and about 18 hours with it.

On my OG EVO I used juice defender plus and it helped out greatly. Saw 1.8x a couple of times. On the new EVO LTE I don't use a thing and it keeps going and going and going...
