I am not updated to Tango yet.
Is there anyway other than hard reset this phone? T_T
Does anyone know if you factory reset a phone, can it still go back to using the old backups?
Yes, you can still restore from backups after a hard reset. I've done it a few times on a couple of different handsets.
What model of phone is it?
Have you installed your own SD card in it (replacing the built-in one or adding your own, depending on model)?
Have you been messing with it in any hacky way (for example, do you have WP7 Root Tools installed, or have you flashed a custom ROM)?
Mozart 7 - chevron unlocked
No custom sd or rom
I ended up resetting it and return to my old backup. But now I don't have tether update anymore from HTC and the only update I keep receiving is tango... And I don't want to update to tango because I will lose my chevron unlock!
The frustration sigh..

Do you mean ChevronWP7 Labs unlock, or the original Chevron Unlocker hack? If you've managed to carry the unlock hack forward this far (i.e. to Mango), you must have already interop-unlocked your phone. In that case, your best bet is to use WP7 Root Tools and follow the instructions on WindowsPhoneHacker about how to upgrade to Tango without your phone connecting to Microsoft to validate its unlock status. Even if you don't have WP7 Root Tools installed right now, your firmware version may now be compatible after you restored that backup.
If you have a Chevron Labs unlock, then you also now have a free AppHub account for official developer unlock, and that will give you the same amount of unlock access as Chevron Labs unlock does.
Lol I'm on chevron original unlock! Carried till latest mango with no interop unlock! I know that after 1 of the HTC update I couldn't use the registry editor anymore.
My current problem is that I restored to a backup without tethering, and I can't get that update anymore because I keep receiving the tango update instead
Sent from my 7 Mozart T8698 using XDA Windows Phone 7 App
All of the published ways to carry your original Chevron unlock forward to Mango also included interop-unlock (which is just the removal of the app sideloading limit), although you may not have known that.
I repeat, what firmware version are you on right now? Also, even if it doesn't *work*, can you at least launch the registry editor app? The answer to the first question will tell me how many HTC updates you have currently (and therefore what hacks can be used). The answer to the second will tell me whether or not you are, in fact, interop-unlocked (if you can launch apps like Registry Editor at all, regardless of whether they work, you're interop-unlocked).
Um ur actually talking to the same person on the mango interop unlock thread... Lol
OS version:
7.10.8107.79
Firmware revision number
2250.21.50001.707
Radio software version
5.69.09.05a_22.50.50.21U
Bootloader version
5.12.2250.5(139188
U pointed out it is 50001 already so it should be v2
But I replied that I have never applied the interop hack and I DO have access to registry editor still right now
Thank you for your responses, hopefully I'm not confusing u too much.
Sent from my 7 Mozart T8698 using XDA Windows Phone 7 App
The hack to carry your Chevron unlock forward to Mango *is* an interop unlock. There's many ways to apply the hack; the one you're probably thinking of is special only because it works for people who are already on Mango and didn't prepare their phones in any way beforehand.
That said, your firmware version is too high, as you say. If you don't downgrade that somehow, you won't be able to install WP7 Root Tools and therefore will lose your hacked unlock when you upgrade to Mango.

Finaly! After hours and hours of updating, tweaking and backupping i finnaly got a working unlocked version of retail mango.. but... these apps aint working anymore, strange, because TouchXplorer is still working. Also Registery Editor is not working anymore!!
Are there some new alterntive apps? Especially a custom-accent changer!
You should have picked another title. I thought this is a release...
Yep, none of these are working. We already knew that. Put at least a question mark in the title

Have you, by any chance, checked the TouchXperience site any time in the last few months? Schaps has had working Mango versions of Registry Editor and Advanced Config for a good while now.
Working fine now on my hd7 with release of custom roms that are full unlocked within the past week or so.

Working without INTEROP-UNLOCK already?
No, interop-unlock is and probably always will be required, until/unless MS comes to their senses regarding it. That said, it's working on my HD7 with stock Mango retail ROM. The process requires rolling back to pre-Mango but it's possible to interop-unlock an HTC phone as long as you are dev-unlocked and have the HTC Connection Setup app installed.
there is a version 1.4 but its really buggy on my Focus. Inter-op unlocked.
It launches and if i go fast enough i can get it to stay open in the Accent changer.
I've been able to deploy this to my phone using the Windows application deployment tool, but it doesn't appear on my app list afterwards. Am interop unlocked.
Cheers
This is because is is installed in settings, not in app list
Gladly purchased my HTC Surround. Enjoying it, although Im already missing my Aria [not really, just android]. But, heres the process i've gone through;
*UNLOCK/ROOT*
1.ChevronWP7 [http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=857127]
^--Didnt work. Error message pops up that It cant communicate
^----Found a new link. [http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=913748]
^------Only usable after having rooted/unlocked. Whats that? Another link? [http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=10793775&postcount=52]
2.After looking over this, I found it very interesting. Now, Im very computer literate but that totally lost me since wp7 has thrown me through a loop.
^--
Code:
Now in your hosts. file in \windows\system32\drivers\etc folder, you should set up an entry for developerservices.unlock.me with your computer's own IP address.
Once you do you need to install a new certificate on the phone for whatever host in the URL you made and you will be able to use ChevronWP7 to unlock incase it ever locks you out again.
To simplify the making a self-signed certificate portion, I've created a cert for "developerservices.unlock.me" with the validity date of 1000 days. It's included in this post. Hope this helps you all with maintaining an unlocked Windows Phone 7 and understanding why ChevronWP7 won't unlock anymore.
This all makes sense. To a point, which i've done.
^----
Code:
Now if you change the URL to something else, you will need a corresponding certificate. You can make one with makecert.exe or makessl.exe form the various resource/development toolkits out there on the Microsoft website.
In my example, I'm going to use a site that doesn't exist "developerservices.unlock.me". You should change the PortalUrlProd and PortalUrlInt on the phone
Totally rocked my world. Idk what exactlyto do with a "makecert.exe" program or how else to do anything. Soo....
~~~~~~~~~MY QUESTION~~~~~~~~Who wants to hold my hand and walk me through this ever so confusing process and allow me to root/unlock my HTC Surround and keep it that way even after using zune? :] Btw, i realize i posted the last 2 notes in reverse order. I did that on purpose.
That method of unlocking ONLY works if you have pre-nodo (I.e. software version 7004 or anything BEFORE 7390). If you got a surround recently from AT&T I can almost guarantee it has 7390 or 7392 installed.
HOWEVER! Not all is lost fellow surround user. A nice gentleman over in the Surround forum released the original AT&T 7004 Stock Rom Flashing this will allow you to unlock and then as long as you can follow instructions you can stay unlocked all the way to Mango.
has anyone tried going back to pre-nodo and kept their unlock with mango???
any other solution for those who have Mango and tried to dev-unlock successfully???
thanks
There's a way to try and carry a hacked unlock forward to Mango. Read the Development and Hacking sub-forum, specifically the thread about using U2M7720, an app that should (hopefully, if you follow the instructions precisely) allow you to dev-unlock your phone on Mango without a dev account, including interop-unlock (an extension to dev-unlock that allows some apps that normal dev-unlock doesn't allow on Mango).
Starting the process requires being on NoDo though; if you're already on Mango you'll need to roll back, and if you're on pre-NoDo you'll need to upgrade to NoDo and use the trick to carry through your dev-unlock.
How to format or re-use the SD card taken out from HTC surround?
I got the HTC white screen stuck on my HTC surround smart phone, it worked again after replacing the micro sd card. Tried to access or format the old card (the one was taken out from my cell phone) by my laptop, it won't be recognized. Is there any way I can format it and use it again? Thanks!
Hello, I have the last Windows Phone 7.5 Mango version on my HTC HD7 (without internet sharing but with hidden wifi support) and now it's unlocked with Chevron WP7 Unlocker (I unlocked it starting from the first build, then upgrading to NoDo and at the end to Mango) and it's now percfectly unlocked. I'm a student and I'm going to register me at the Microsoft App Hub via Dreamspark. My question is if after that, I can deploy an infinity number of app yet (like I can do now with Chevron Unlock) or if my apps max will be 10. (If this, how can I remove this limit?)
Sorry for my English but it's not my mother language.
For time being the limit is 10.If you are on dreamspark you can only have 3 apps right?Wait till someone able to to use interop-unlock for htc device then we can have more than 10 apps.You can go to other thread regarding htc interop-unlock.
But when someone will be able to use interop-unlock for my HTC, I can use my developer account AND install more than the limit of apps? (together)
uhm the interop-unlock is automatically made by the WP Core when you are allowed to install more than 300 apps. If you unlocked your Phone with Chevron there is no Need for you to reunlock it with the official tool
Thanks for the answer, I didn't know this thing about interop-unlock. So now that I have Chevron unlock with infinity apss and Mango update, if I register to Microsoft App Hub, will change something about my current Chevron unlock with infinity number of apps? Or this limit will be removed by my official developer account?
Sent from my HD7 T9292 using XDA Windows Phone 7 App
No You cannot use the Chevron unlocked phone with Microsoft App Hub and Vice versa. If you have it unlocked via Chevron and want to use it with App Hub you need to contact them and get your phone remove from the list and vice versa
Chevron Uses an Official Method to unlock your phone but it is cheaper as MS does not give you access to Resources and does not allow you to upload files to Marketplace.
Check the FAQ
The Apps that you deploy are not linked to the account at all. You can develop 20 applications with any official unlock account (Student or normal) but you can only deploy the amount of apps the account is designed to. OEMs are officially interop unlocked and so they are able to use System dlls in their apps.
so short version: you can have an interop unlocked device based on any unlock (Chevron wp7, Chevron labs, Student unlock, developer unlock) and still get your apps into the marketplace (dozens of them but i think there is a Limit of 10 apps per week so you don't flood the marketplace with spam apps)
Thanks a lot for the answers. So in my case can I register at App Hub with a different Windows Live ID than my Phone WL ID, keeping my phone Chevron unlocked?
So I stumbled on this thread via Google but I still don't understand anything. I currently have a student unlock. This lets me deploy 3 apps to the phone at a time. Will using ChevronWP7 Labs allow me to deploy more than that or no?
Okay so with Chevron I can do 10 apps instead of 3. And I assume by "deactivate" you mean just delete my phone from my device list on App Hub. That shouldn't be an issue as far as App Hub because I used to submit apps before I even had a phone. I guess the real question is, can I build and test apps to the phone with a Chevron unlock the same way I did with my student unlock?
Currently i am hspl'd and am using a custom rom. although there are great roms, i find it very uneasy having to deal with little bugs and waiting for an update. so i am in the process of trying to go almost completely stock. i have downloaded the most recent official rom for the hd7, RUU_Schubert_S_TMOUS_4.05.531.03_Radio_5.69.09.29a_22.50.50.21_Signed_SCHUBERT_RELEASE.
Now i have extracted it and found that there is a RUU_signed.nbh, so i am wondering if i flash this using wrapper29, will my spl stay unchanged. if so i am planning to update to the internet sharing update, but before that i have to unlock and introp unlock. but i am having trouble finding out how to do the regular unlock... do i pay the 9 bucks for the chevron site?
also out of curiosity is there a way to just update through zune (officially) to the newest update, and be able to edit my registry. the a2dp bitrate values sound horrible. i know ill lose my hspl but all i really need is to be able to edit my registry.
Not sure about the affect on your SPL; my phone is HSPL compatible but I've never installed it.
Make sure the ROM you're flashing is not so new you can't interop-unlock it. If the firmware version is above *.*.50000.*, I don't believe interop-unlock (or registry editing, which is all interop unlock is - a tricksy way of editing the registry) is possible.
To get the basic dev-unlock, you currently need to have an AppHub account from Microsoft ($99/year, or free if you're a student via DreamSpark). The ChevronWP7 Labs unlock (the $9 one you mentioned) had a limited number of unlocks for sale, and sadly they sold out. Everybody is hoping they'll get more soon, but... no word yet.
Hello,
In all my excitement over Tango, I neglected to read any of the warnings posted around the forums/web. I installed Tango via the cab sender method (neglected to make a backup) and everything still worked, or at least the homebrew apps I launched still did. Searching the forums, I found the Samsung firmware somewhere in the replies to the cab thread, and pushed it also. This was late at night and it wasn't until the next day I noticed I can't launch almost half of my homebrew apps. It's said restoring from a backup (don't have one) or flashing back to Mango is the only way to fix this. Is that true? Well ****. Because there is no ROMs (stock nor custom) for the Focus S..
What should I do?
Thanks in advance,
6-4.
Do you have *any* homebrew apps that
A) you can still run
B) you marked as Trusted in WP7 Root Tools?
It sounds like what happened is that your phone reverted from interop-unlock to simple dev-unlock (you presumably have an AppHub account?). However, this does *not* revert root-unlock as applied by WP7 Root Tools. Root Tools itself requires ID_CAP_INTEROPSERIVCES, and as such can't be run without interop-unlock. However, the apps that it has marked as Trusted will continue to run with full permissions (root unlock).
So, here's what you do.
First, identify an app that you can run (i.e. that isn't interop) and that is marked as Trusted.
Second, take the GUID of that app, and use that GUID to replace the ProductId of the Tango-update-workaround app (which essentially just restores interop-unlock).
Third, remove homebrew apps from your phone (but not the target app, the trusted one you can still run) until you are able to deploy an app (usually, this means reduce to 9 homebrew apps).
Fourth, use a XAP deployer that supports updating, and do an update-install of the workaround app (upgrade, because it's using the GUID of the already-installed target).
Fifth, run the workaround app, and then re-install your normal apps.
I did as you instructed, however I still have the 10 sideload limit and am unable to deploy any interop services.By tango workaround app, you meant relockprevent, correct?
Is there something I may have missed?
Like I said, I installed the Samsung LE2 update for the Focus S which is basically the KK2 equivalent, so provxml will no longer work.
Also, I do not have an apphub account.
Bump. Anyone have any ideas? A friend put a support ticket in with Samsung internal support to see if they can get the ROM.
Oh so it was that firmware update that just broke interop. Yeah I want to say at this point you are stuck. I doubt that Samsung will give the ROM since it isn't an issue that is preventing you from doing out of the box functionality.
isnt the provxml method using diagnostic tools the reason for this no longer working, what i mean by that is if you were to install the older version of the diag tool would that not restore functionality, or has the lock down of that gone much deeper? if you are able to install XAPs then find an older OEM update version pre KK2/LE2, open it up and rip out the diagnostic tool XAP, remove any previous installed version then send over the XAP....
just a thought, it might not work, but essentially i think thats what happens unless of course there are other dlls or drivers that the tool needs that have also been updated....
course it would be great to find someone willing and able to help crack the bootloader
Yeah I gave the suggestion to him in the Cab Sender thread to try and look on here for the Diag v 0109 or even 0210. That's the version that I have. Actually in the Cab Sender thread, I posted the cab file to the samsung firmware for Mango that should have that diagnostics version in the cab. You may be able to push that to your device
Ok, that means that the firmware also pushed out new Dlls to prevent proxvml. You are stuck unfortunately :-\
Ive been asking around and doing some research and as of today your stuck, sorry!
I did some poking around on DFTs website as well and there is absolutely ZERO work being done on it, mostly because it seems like the focus S is an AT&T only phone, there just isnt a pressing needed to do anything, plus most folk dont have a focus S to work with.
i dont know what it would take to get some help or even guidance on getting the bootloader replaced but at the moment, until another method is found, thats all there is.
Tho This might be interesting to look in to but DONT DO IT!
did i read somewhere else you dont have a preupdated backup or was it that the backup didnt work?
There is a lot of changes in those updates, if we could insert our own certificate to allow us to build our own signed cabs we could probably work it out, but alas we can only add a cert in to a custom ROM then flash it...
Yes, unfortunately I bought the phone from a guy here on XDA in May, never had to update it (had been cab updated to 8107 before I got it), never made a backup before installing tango (it's a small update, what could it possibly **** up, right?) Anyway the Focus S was announced yesterday as being available online at some Australian website so maybe there will be ROMs available in the future. I still haven't heard back from internal Samsung support, but have also asked the user I purchased the phone from if he has any backups, which I would restore from and immediately reset again to ensure his privacy.
Honestly, I wouldn't mind losing interop-unlock until 7.8 comes around, or WP8 (whichever I can afford first), but MMS also can't be configured using the Wireless Manager anymore, and that's an absolutely vital feature for me. Although, the WM has been known to not work for a lot of people, even pre-tango, but it worked flawlessly OOB for me prior to updating.
so you updated to the LE2 samsung update, was that via zune? (the last update it does in a row 3rd or 4th perhaps!) or did you cab send that as well?
if you went via zune then it does a backup as well, settings>update>restore
It was all done through the cab sender. There is no backup.
Just wanted to mention here... you know that CAB Sender is perfectly capable of making backups, right? It's one of the core operations the tool is capable of. Don't blame CAB Sender for you pressing S instead of B.
I just don't want people getting the impression that "through the cab sender" implies "there is no backup."
Fully aware, thank you.
Hello guys!
Got my device on the 8773 and did the samsung update...
Is there anyway to get my interop back ?
I have my backups (one the last 8773 without samsung update and the other is 7740 without anything =] )
Thanks a lot.
Restore your backup, do a little bit more reading on the subject of Tango with Interop Unlock, install the prevention app and mark it as trusted, and have at it. (Specifically, Tango will reset the "prevent relock" registry values, so you have to avoid the phone connecting to Microsoft until you have cleared them again).
