Exchange AT&T One X - AT&T, Rogers HTC One X, Telstra One XL

My AT&T One X is sending out three to ten copies of each text message pretty regularly. I'm also occasionally receiving duplicate messages. And now I've been receiving texts hours late.
Also, once I hit about 6000 total messages, the stock HTC Sense Messages app quit working, so I had to switch to GO SMS Pro.
I love my One X, but I need a phone with working text messaging.
Given that I purchased the phone two months ago, what are my options? Will AT&T let me exchange it for another One X or do I have to ship it to HTC? Since lots of other users are having the same bug will that even fix it? Will AT&T let me exchange it for another model?

It's still under warranty. If it's corporate att store they may replace it on the spot if they have warranty replacements in stock yet. My store did not but they overnighted one. Have you backed up and installed a ruu.? What have you done to try and fix it? That sounds software not hardware related.
Rooted? Unlocked? Custom rom? If so which?

There is already a thread about this. I'm pretty sure its a software problem considering different radios don't make a difference. After switching to aokp o haven't had the issue

It ls probably malware. Run lookout or wipe and reinstall a ROM

I'm not sure if "a lot" of people are having this issue. I (quickly) went through the linked thread, and it appears that 8 people (including you) responded to that thread indicating they were having the same issue. Of course there are probably plenty that have the issue that didn't read that thread, or even know about XDA. But my hunch is there are a heckuvalot more people with this phone (on this forum alone) that don't have this particular issue. But that's just my hunch, of course.
I'd say exchanging it can't hurt, and might solve the problem.
I've read various report from people whether AT&T will let you exchange for another model. Some people are told flat out "no" even after something like 8 defective phones of the same model. Other people successfully switched to another phone model. I think mostly, it depends on talking to the right person, being persistent, escalating the issue, etc. But I'd give a try exchanging for another One X first.
Having a large amount of SMS messages has always seemed to be an issue with HTC's messaging app. I'm sure you've heard it before, but do you really need to keep so many on your phone? You can easily back up all your SMS messages to Gmail for reference purposes, keep the more recent ones, and solve that particular issue.

Verizon will replace phones with random reboots.

I just called Verizon and told them after updating I have been getting random reboots. The tech said its happening to certain phones and is sending a replacement, no questions asked. Im sure my phones not defective I agree with those that say its a radio issue. I even mentioned that to the tech and he said he doesn't think so. Kinda sucks I got to restore to stock, and reroot and what not. I'll be sure to let everyone know if the replacement has the same issues.
Update: Just so you know I've gotten two replacements, and it didn't help my situation. So no point in getting one unless you got a little cosmetic issue with your phone. Htc is working on a fix for these pesky reboots. It's in testing stages right now supposedly.

It may be a pain to return to stock & root the new phone, but at least verizon is swapping your phone for free. It wouldn't surprise me if they didn't try to blame it on the owner & charge for the exchange
Yeah the tech was real cool about it. Free overnight fed ex and everything.
Do you have to send your current phone back to them, then, or what?
Interesting that they're doing this. I thought this was happening on all TBs, not just individual ones. Maybe I should call. Anybody else had this experience with the techs? Or did ajd88 just happen to catch a tech that had already put in his 2 weeks notice and didn't care.
I called this morning. Having a new one next-day shipped to me. My phone has become unusable.
My phone has rebooted maybe 3 times total since I installed the leaked radio when it first was leaked, you guys think I should try and get a replacement just to be on the safe side?

While my phone isn't randonly rebooting it does loose 4G all the time, rarely goes into 3G and 1x seems to be the norm. I live in Chicago so I know it has a solid 4G signal. Wonder if it's worth the trouble of swapping out. But knowing my luck they will give me a refurbished phone...

in my experience, verizon has always been really good at replacing phones. I had a droid since launch day before upgrading to my TB, and it had been replaced 2 times.
The first time the camera stopped focusing, the second time it just stopped turning on.
I walked in to a VZW store on a Wednesday, and I had fedex at my door delivering new phone on thursday afternoon. badass!
You know he funny thigh here is. It probably is happening on all thunderbolts or some people just arent ppaying attention and not realizing that this is happening. It even happens on my wife's fascinate. So ineradicable of sending back my non defective phone that random rebooted once in a while for a "refurbished" phone. Ill keep my new out of box one. Not one someone else has allready had. Just because of a software issue.
Well it seems like I get the short end of the stick with VZW on a daily basis. I called and explained it all to the rep and explained how this is a known issue and that there are plently of reputable community sites (like XDA) confirming this and there is rarely a common thread between two devices. Apparently, the rep I spoke to, said that this isn't a known issue.
Got told to factory reset and if it comes down to an exchange, I'd be getting a "certified like-new device" a.k.a. crappy refurb. Again, IF it comes down to that. Awesome. Now they want me to wait it out and see if it keeps acting up. Fun.
I asked the tech if i was gonna get a refurb, he said no. He better not be lying.
Of course theres a gb leak right after, probably with a new radio that fixes it lol.

You'll most likely get a "Certified Like-New" It's a refurb. But, a refurb with a working power button is better than what I have now so I'm going to give this a go.

I just got the same response. Tech support said not a known issue. They want me to see if I can make it happen again. I guess random reboot isn't telling. I know they have to go through their troubleshooting process and I'm not upset about that, but i can see where this is going. I won't get another reboot today which will tell them I don't have a problem. Alright, I'm off the soapbox.

The guy i spoke to asked if I did a factory restore, I lied told him yes. So there was no troubleshooting. I told him its all over google, he put me on hold came back and said he looked on google and confirmed with me he sees that some people are having problems. After that he told me he was confident a new device would solve my problems and thats it. I guess i might have just got lucky.
It is possible that physical defects in the phones are contributing to the issue. Something like a bad run of filter components could cause the radio to operate ever so slightly out of spec, but still within QA tolerances. Then, if they then tweaked the radio parameters a bunch in the update, it could have pushed the performance requirements of the RF hardware closer to the device tolerances - suddenly revealing a whole bunch of bad components they did not see previously.
I got my new phone today and no reboots and my screen is a lot nicer and brighter. I'm happy

Can someone explain the nature of the reboots that they are experiencing? I had a reboot on Friday but it was much more then just a reboot, after the phone was finishing powering back up I had no ability to call out as if there was no service. I tried numerous battery pulls and even had Verizon do a reset on there end, nothing helped yet I was still able to receive and send data. Finally after about an hour my service was back. Then the same thing happened again yesterday, I went through the same processes with no success yet. I have tried all the different radio choices and nothing is working, does anyone have any suggestions?
Thanks!!!
Also I am rooted and using the stock rom
Couple different things I'd like to point out. Most vzw employees at the sales level will replace your phone if they actually see it reboot on its own. Some, though, chalk it up to being just a part of the device. I, myself, am a vzw employee and would most definitely exchange your device if its rebooting. However, rooting your phone voids the manufacturers warranty, so you better have insurance. Also, certified like news are not refurbished phones. They are phones that are brought back within the 14-day return policy because the customer either didn't like it or didn't understand how to use it. They're cleared out, tested, and repackaged as CLNRs. Certified pre-owned are, in fact, refurbished. Just thought I'd clear that up.

Shocker on my last phone bill, malware in rom?

Shocker on my latest phonebill. My phone have sent allot of sms too 0020000001 (egypt) since 2011-09-28 too 2011-10-18. Seems to have stopped now when I use senseless. Used bulletproof before if there was some app incuded in that relese. :-/
I've been using all of the ROMs available in the dev section.
Still have zero text messages and 1 phone call (test on the day I got it, to my other cell) on my whole account history.
Confirmed with t-mobile.
Outgoing, which is the issue I assume - get text messages from T-mo, working on putting a stop to this.
It took some serious effort and a threat of cancellation to t-mo to get them to stop calling me, but the only incoming calls I've ever had to this phone were from t-mo, and I never answered.

In my case is worse then people from t-mobile, because o2 dont have a "real time" or almost real time controll, which means that i need to wait the bill to see the crap. they dont have any controll for people who had plans, only pre paid. this month was 5 euros only with this ****..

i'll take a look and tell you back, but just more information: Before my MT4GS i had a Desire HD and i NEVER had this kind of problem with it. and so far i remember, i used the same programs on Desire HD, so.. it shouldnt be a programm problem, at least not which i had installed.
Now i'm using the virtual unity rom, which doesnt had the zipwhip thing, which the people on tmobile/tcom forum accused be the problem.
the programs that i used so far was: öffi, call meter ng, safewallet, ebuddy, foursquare, facebook, twitter, quickboot, sms back and restore, viber, whatsapp, heywire, adfree. I also had on the device but i dont use frequently: convertpad, currencyconverter, dein taxi, weather bug, androzip, mytaxi, barcodescan, scan life barcode, roboform, wm ftp client, db navigator, es explorer, skype, shazam.
and yesterday i also installed autorunmanager and super manager, to try to disable or uninstall the zipwhip thing.
i'll look the permissions on all this apps and i'll post here. The thing is, since i install yesterday a new rom and i didnt put every program back, can i see this on google market?

So, i recovered the old rom backup with the old programs, took off my simcard and installed a few permission viewer programs.
The list from Permission Explorer to send sms permissions are:
brcmbluetoothservices (com.broadcom.bt.app.system), doubleshotandroidzipgroups (com.zipwhip.zipgroups.doubleshot -this is the one from zipwhip, which people think, that the problem is), dragon dictation (com.nuance.vsuite - no idea what is it),mail (com.htc.android.mail), messages (com.android.mms), messages app group tab (com.zipwhip.zipgroups.doubleshot.plugins.messages), messages widget (com.htc.htcmsgwidget3d), my account (com.nuanc.nmc.sihome), phone (com.android.phone), plugin sample(com.android.messagetab), scanlife(com.scanlife), t-mobile device carbon(com.zipwhip.devicecarbon.tmobile), viber(com.viber.voip), whatsapp(com.whatsapp), voice search(com.google.android.voicesearch).
it was kind of weird that scanlife, something to scan barcodes just can send sms, but i had this program since the desire hd without problems, so.. i'm not sure that could be the problem anyway..
---------- Post added at 02:15 PM ---------- Previous post was at 01:28 PM ----------
Well i did some tests with a prepaid o2 card (then i can check the credits) and after i uninstalled viber and whatsapp, restarted the cell, i still have the problem. Then, uninstalled the scanlife, restart, still the problem. Then i uninstalled everything with doubleshotandroidzipgroups, zipgroup, zipwhip.. and again restart.. credits didnt change, so its seems, people have right, this program cause the sms problem. but i can understand why not everyone had the problem, since in almost all roms (except the virtuous rom ported from desire s) had this software.
I asked to a few friends, who used android gingerbread, but not a MT4GS and any of then had this zipwhip programs or anything like this..

Ok, so looks like you've tracked down the malware. WTF is a "zipwhip"?
Edit: Holy crap, just read their website. Might not be malware (or it might be), but definitely a braindead idea since it does weird multi-directional SMS insanity.
Anyway, the reason it doesn't happen with Undeadk9's rom is that he stripped that crap out of it.

Have tried with my operator. That was exactly what they said. They refereed to: http://support.t-mobile.com/thread/6619?start=75&tstart=0 Said follow the outcome, it is T-Mobiles problem or change to another phone.
Last month i wrote to o2, complaining about it and requesting a solution and from where or who this number was.. they gave me a credit after a few lines like: it could be cause by a bad software, blablabla, you are responsable for everything that you install on yout phone, blablabla, but since you are a good costumer and we want you happy, we will give you the credit.
Now i'm waiting the new answer about the problem, since i wrote asking for a SOLUTION and not just a credit and they just said we will give you a credit and thats it.. they didnt offer me to put the number in a blacklist, or any kind of solution. then i'll try to at least become the credit back. and if they dont give me, i'll complain with t-mobile USA, because this is a big mistake and could be avoided.

This puzzles me as well.
I've definitely checked, and rechecked with T-Mo to make sure i'm not having this issue, especially after reading through this thread and all the links provided.
Seems like many people are having the issue, yet many others are not.
Hopefully if people keep posting little details they come across about the problem we can eventually find a common link that binds together all the people having issues.
Stuff like this is of concern to me, and while I haven't been posting because i've had nothing else constructive to add, i've been keeping up and playing along looking for an opportunity to help.
Best of luck to all of you, keep sharing and we'll get to the bottom of it eventually.
Got no issues with the Zipwhip "Groups" software.
I can confirm that I've had this issue show up this month, and I'm using UndeadK9's AOSP Gone Crazy on Sense ROM. I don't run anything outside the norm for a superuser (memory manager, task killer, busybox, spare parts etc).
I have similar problems in my MT4GS. Soon after receiving the phone few days back, I started noticing the charges for incoming messages from Egypt on my online account. These messages never show up in the phone, I only see the charges on line. T-mobile officially announced (support.t-mobile.com/docs/DOC-2882) that they will not give customer any credit back for the messages, even though it is generated by some bloatware they installed on device.
These messages created $2 charged in 5 days...in this rate I would end up paying $12 to t-mobile for nothing. In fact, I found this forum while desperately looking for a solution. It is a t-mobile phone, it is a t-mobile service, it is a t-mobile installed bloatware and they will charge customers $12 a month. Is it sort of technique to force customers to signup for $10 unlimited text service?
Reading this forum gave me some hope. I guess I will have to root the phone and use Titanium Backup to freeze all ZipWhip apps. One of my neighbors said that he was successful in stopping these charges by freezing all ZipWhip apps.

How to get it stuck on Airplane mode?

Hi, I was going to exchange my phone for the 3rd time because of the wifi issues, losing signal, dust under screen, etc (I have insurance). Anyway, the main reason I wanted to exchange the one x was because it was stuck in airplane mode. When I was driving to futureshop, they said that they couldn't exchange it because they have to SEE the problem since I exchanged to many phones. Is there a way to put the phone stuck on airplane mode so I can exchange it? This phone has some serious problems. I'm with Rogers BTW.

Really? If you're just going to post three periods, why even bother posting at all? If you don't like the question and have nothing good/informative to say, don't bother posting a useless response.
OP, sorry, but I just hate seeing people post useless responses (which is ironic, because my post doesn't contribute to the thread either). Good luck finding a way to replace the phone though.
These are all clearly software problems (except dust under screen). Others are having the same problems. Why do you keep exchanging? I say buy a different phone if you can't live with these issues as this type of practice drives up prices for everyone. 99 percent of time itis not a hardware issue unless something (wifi etc) never works.

I do want to get an other phone, I want to get the galaxy note. The One X has too many issues for me. I'll probably buy the One X in the future, when the problems are resolved.
File an insurance claim and say your nephew or some other toddler took it when nobody was looking and just get one. You lost it. Don't know where it is. Then sell it if you like.

I feel inclined to defend the above statement by saying that I don't condone fraud and whatnot but when the phone bill looks like a car note you gotta feel cheated.

It is a software problem.
Nobody here knows how to resolve it.
I suspect if there is ever a firmware update it maybe a bug that gets fixed but I do not trust Rogers approve a firmware update.
Other than this minor pain i love the device.
Mine locked in airplane mode 4 times I purchased it I love the device.
When the annoying bug pops up, I just power off a reset the phone.
I say to myself .... minor issue.
I suspect anything I buy will have some minor bugs somewhere.

[Q] Custom rom and warranty?

I'm contemplating installing a custom rom on my HOX, the advantages are great (camera, speed, no bloatware)... but my phone suffers from the "random disconnect/airplane mode toggle fix" problem... I've talked to HTC and they said they are investigating it and looking into fixes, but I'm still not sure if it is a hardware or software issue, it only happens when I am in an area with very poor signal for an extended amount of time, which unfortunately happens to be most of my classes, and a couple places back home (though it hasn't happened for a couple of months).
I guess my main question is would it matter, for warranty purposes, if I were to root/unlock and install a custom rom? If it ends up being that the phone must be sent in for this issue, would it get rejected because of the tampered bootloader?
Does anyone have any direct experience with this?
Thanks for any input!

I guess my main question is would it matter, for warranty purposes, if I were to root/unlock and install a custom rom? If it ends up being that the phone must be sent in for this issue, would it get rejected because of the tampered bootloader?
Does anyone have any direct experience with this?
Thanks for any input!

At any point have you tried to factory reset your phone? That may solve it. Otherwise you have an issue with the pins inside the phone not being aligned which no amount of software can fix.
Aside from that ATT is generally clueless when it comes to tampered devices, but HTC will know if you unlocked the boot loader and if they feel it was the reason for the issue they can deny you service as unlocking the phone clearly states that the warranty becomes void.

Not a direct experience, but you may find this useful anyway: if you read over at the international One X forum, HTC will still honor the warranty if the BL is unlocked (but no custom ROM ever installed), but users have had warranty service denied with a custom ROM flashed. This is even if the stock ROM is re-installed prior to sending in for service. Apparently, HTC has some way of knowing whether a custom ROM was ever flashed, even after returning to the stock ROM.
At least, this was being reported a couple months ago. I haven't kept up with the issue.
From what people are saying here, if you go through AT&T, they generally do not care about BL unlock whether its within the 30 day exchange period, or sending it in for the 1 year warranty. So you are likely much better off sending into AT&T and not HTC.
Awesome, thanks for the replies.. Yeah I'd be sending it to AT&T if it needed warranty replacement...
@tehdef, it's also widespread issue with connection, all three of the phones I've had have done the same thing... But yeah it would make sense if that were the case (not saying it isn't, just not sure) that software wouldn't fix it.

At&t warranty replacement discussion thread

I've created this thread so anyone (like me) that has gotten a warranty replacement for there hox through at&t can discuss there experiences with them good or bad, as well as what software it came with and things of that nature.
with that being said, i myself am waiting on my third replacement from them as of now. the first being sent back because of frequent signal loss and a (what sounded like) a blown speaker phone. the second one i have now is going back because the colors are darker than the should be and the whites are horrible looking tan and kind of pinkish on different screen. only fix was to turn the brightness all the way up and kill my battery faster than i should have to. also, as of now, both replacements have came with 2.20 installed on them. maybe three times a charm on a decent replacement as well as a different software version. if anything i can live with 2.20 as long as the phone lives up to the $150 i paid the first time.
reserved for update when replacement arrives. replacement has arrived and ive posted a reply in the thread about it instead of here.
I got my first One X on 9/10 as a refurb with 1.85. I had a GS II and received a replacement with issues followed by 2 DOA replacements, so they gave me a One X (long story involving over a month of calls and "troubleshooting" ). It was a full kit with charger and SIM, and whoever put the SIM in mangled the hole for the tool. It also has some sort of crack or blemish in the screen under the glass. It looks like stuck pixels, but it changes color by angle. I got a replacement on 9/17 with 2.20 installed. The screen was already scratched, and the screen protector had been removed and reapplied crooked and bubbly. I sent that one back and am still using the first one so I can root. I'll try again for a replacement in a few weeks if I can't get used to this screen issue or if 2.20 is rooted. Or I may just take the offer for early upgrade and discounted GS III.

I was going to thread crap, but what the hell..
My refurb replacement was cosmetically perfect, but the volume rocker is a tiny bit loose, and I get some creaks from the screen, but I only notice them when I'm cleaning it, wiping it down. I'm not enough of douche to complain about these things.
[Reserved for snarky thread crap comment in.near future]
I'm not really a proponent of calling people out, but I seriously question peoples' OCD when it comes to these stories of "this is my 9th replacement device" and so on. (edit: didn't necessarily mean the previous sentence to apply to anyone in this thread; I just know how these replacement complaints can go) If you convince yourself enough times that you have a hardware or software issue, that issue will begin to appear. It's called FEAR. False Evidence Appearing Real. Been there, done that with a Blackberry and I'm not going down that road ever again. It's simply not worth the anxiety.
I've had one issue with this phone and it had to do with the SIM card error. It could have been the card, could have been the phone, but since I was within my 30 days the rep just exchanged it out to be certain.
this thread is for good or bad discussion on your replacement. and if your calling someone a douche for complaining or not on here then remove your post, cause as much as you would like to not believe it you just complained in your own way the things you obviously dislike about your replacement. and i reserved a spot for hopefully nothing but good things to say about my coming replacement. its thread trolls like you that keep people from xda anymore. its you dont like a thread go read a different one, i didnt make you spend time coming to mine or reading through it.
Mine is solid so far, got it yesterday... only problem is that it came with 2.20

Easy there, defensive.
I was pointing out how some people get with these replacements. I thought I made that clear when I outlined my experience. I hope you get a good phone!

You want to flip out at the warranty dept and demand the customer retention dept. They are the people that can make it all happen. I had an atrix that was having issues. After my 3rd replacement the gave me a 250$ credit, let me upgrade early and I was able to keep the atrix and sell it.

thanks i'll keep that in mind. but i pretty much guess i wont have any problems with this one. it'll be crazy to get three bad replacements, but i guess it could happen. they are refurbished

If you have a certain amount of faulty devices they will usually ask if you want to switch to a different model (they give you a couple of options).

Here is my full story of how I went from the Galaxy S II to the One X for free.
On 8/15 I called AT&T about my Galaxy S II with an issue. They were back ordered so I was offered a Skyrocket. The Skyrocket is slow, sluggish, and poor battery compared to the Galaxy S II, so I refused and called a service center daily until they had one. That one had a different issue. I called and politely asked for a different phone. After talking to retention, warranty, and resolution I was denied everywhere (resolution offered early upgrade, but not until October, an offer I may still take them up on). They had the Galaxy S II back in stock so they sent me one of those. It came with screen burn in and black splotches on the screen, so they sent me another one, and it was the same. All the phones had date codes in 8/2011. At that point they wanted to troubleshoot the second one some more. It was randomly shutting down, and they had me try factory resets, new battery (they actually sent 2) and a new SIM. After a month of calling several times a week, I was finally offered the One X. I would have taken anything that wasn't the Skyrocket. I was actually hoping for Atrix HD because I wanted dedicated HDMI and MicroSD. But, I wasn't given options, just a One X or try another Galaxy S II. I have worked in a call center long enough to know being nice is far more effective at getting what you want vs yelling. I received a refurb with charger, and I had to send back my Galaxy S II. But, my contract was not extended so I still qualify in May 2013.
I haven't decided yet if I want to get a GS III in October, or wait for the GS IV next year. Either way my wife will probably get this One X to replace her iPhone 4 (she qualifies in July 2013).

well, i got my new one x today. gotta say i love it like my first one. ive got all my stuff on it, set it up how i wanted, and tested everything. its my third replacement because the last two had problems. its perfect and now im just waiting for root to come to 2.20 because it seems every phone at&t is sending out it updated to 2.20 before shipping. i think they do this because of the new root patching it does. well anyways, i got it and i love it!! goodtimes!!!!
I had issues with my backlight becoming intermittent. It would go out and required flexing the phone to get it back on. It was probably a loose connection on the backlight. I was running a custom Rom with super CID. The techs at the store and the repair center failed to notice. It shouldn't have made a difference anyway because the problem was hardware. I had a launch HT23 and received a HT25 refurbished replacement with 2.20 installed.

well here is my story
my hox came with 2.20 i got the phone 2weeks ago exactly. i found out while in the store that they are manually updating the phones to 2.20 i thought to myself ok thats odd. then i later found out no root for 2.20 as of yet. so i started having issues with wifi dropping off for no reason then it would come back. that didn't brother me to badly until i started to experience a very odd issue with the back button would say 40% of the time it would turn on the vibrate function n wouldn't turn off until i hit the back button again that got me pissed 2 weeks old n i have to deal with this i ended go back to the store they told me nothing they could do nothing for me except to return the phone n refund me the money i spent minus restocking fee i got pissed and walked out. i got a hold of customer service because i am a business customer they bent over backwards and sent me a NEW one i informed them i know of the issues with the refurbs my friends have been thru this so she and her supervisor allowed it to send me a brand new White one but here is the kicker they told me to keep my Current one X i thought that was odd so i call back they also informed me to keep it so i guess ill find out what software version i get and also if i have to send this one back at some point if an audit catches it and then i will complain more..lol
My Interesting story for the day
What did say to get them to send you a new replacement? I'm also a business customer, though not the owner of the account. Just curious how you played that angle. I'm debating whether to get my phone replaced, but have concerns about refurbished units, many of which confirmed in this thread. Thanks.

i think its because my phone is only 2 weeks old and i told them i would not accept a refurb unit due to issues i have read here and my friends have experienced i am also not the owner on the account but i am an authorized user its all how u talk to them dont demand anything kill them with kindness and talk to them as a human being and joke around with them n tell them u have already reset ur phone 2 twice and the problem still is there and blame the 2.20 update for causing software glitches and there are known hardware problems also the rep was nice enough to tell me that there was a recent bulletin about wifi and software issues related to the 2.20 update. also try to call back at a later time to get another rep and also remember this if you cannot make head way with 1 rep try again if the second one cant make it happen call back again n talk to a supervisor and inform them u know about issues with refurb one x's having issues.
Thanks for the info.
My phone has shut itself off overnight a couple of times in the past few weeks. Seemingly randomly. If it happens again, I'll give your idea a shot.
