I constantly have issues with my g2x. It works fine as long as i dont use gps or bluetooth. I use the gps when i drive and the phone constantly overheats shuts down and gets stuck at the lg boot logo and continues to get very hot. I have the same issues when the i use bluetooth. my car stereo lets me stream pandora over bluetooth and if used for a while the phone over heats and reboots and freezes mid boot. ive used stock kernels along with others with the same issue and there is NO overclocking and i have tried undervolting.
Thanks for any help
Current Rom CM 7.2.0 w/ stock kernel
Previous rom EB 2.3.7 using stock, faux and trinity kernel
same issue with both but Cm seems to take slightly longer to show problems
What ROM and kernel are you using? Also, are you using a car charger during this? I had a problem with car chargers causing this. Just because it physically fits doesn't mean it's the right one for your phone (ask me how I know haha)

I was using eb 2.3.7 and am now using cm7.2.0. I have tried stock, faux, and trinity kernels on eaglesblood and have only used stock with cm. I've also had past issues with car chargers but this happens while off the charger. With this phone i try to avoid charging it away from home since sometimes it tends to cause my phone to heat up.

So I have my phone rooted with leedroids latest update and when o try to play music in my car with the auxilary cable I will at random times get a lot of static, the weird thing is it always seems to follow the same pattern and beat of interference, I have tried replacing the cable with same results, also sometimes when using headphones I get a little static (but not as bad and not even close to as often), I was using Synergy for a bit and had the same results so i don't think its ROM relatedx any advice would be great

Oh Dang. How Unfrigging lucky buddy. I read one in seven Inspires has this issue....
Totally Kidding. That is not true at all.
I have never ever had that problem, and I am a daily headphones and auxilary cable user - Gotta have my muzak.
So it sounds like it is in the jack itself, or jack input I mean... Used tons of roms and never encountered it. Can you tell if its the cable turning or moving? And is the jack snug in your input?
I have seen this from time to time with kernels that use the sound boost. Try a diff kernel.

Good call Z. I assumed for the longest while all kernels boosted audio output - then I discovered the magic of changelogs! Never knew this though, that's good to know.
I hear having random reboots/shut-offs are common with the G2X, but unlike the majority, I don't have these problems on stock, only CM7. I haven't played around with other custom roms enough to see if it's still there, as I like CM7 the best. I've tried both 7.1.0.1 and 7.2.0 RC1, along with both the standard CM7 and Faux DS UC kernels.
It seems to happen the most often when charging, plugged in without charging, or shortly after unplugging it from a charger. It sometimes happens randomly outside of that criteria.
I know it's not caused by any additional apps, as it can still occur after a clean CM7 install, unless it's an app included with CM7 that causes it. Has anyone been in this same situation, and installed a kernel that fixed it? Or switched to another similar rom that fixed the problem? I'd say it's battery or phone related if it occurred with the stock rom too, but it doesn't.
Hello all,
Saw a few other posts to overheating when not doing much or anything but recently noticed a problem with using the GPS while charging will cause it to over heat and no longer charge. The battery will get in excess of 47° C when this is happening and idles at 33° C.
Seems mainly with GPS though, on call with wifi and bluetooth running at 35° C.
I am using a HTC - T-Mobile myTouch charger with 5V-1A put so is not a high output charger.
Has anyone else seen this?
I know I am not having any luck with these phones.
First one had problems with when using GPS would loose data connection till GPS was discontinued.
Second (this one) has the above problem and had a exchange sent for about 4 hours wouldn't turn on no matter what I did. After I had exchange sent turned on fine and hasn't happened since.
Third (sent back already) had the same problems as the first one will loose data and cell signal when using GPS and will come back when disabled but not till then.
Honestly, you can't expect a phone not to get hot while charging and using GPS. GPS takes a lot of power, also with the screen being on the entire time it takes up even more.
Almost any smart phone should be able to handle 47° C, I wouldn't suggest it for long extended periods of time though.
Most android devices have heat alert that pops up if your phone gets too hot, I'm not sure if ours has one. I've read on a couple of posts of phones running around 125 Fahrenheit, without a warning.
As for the Data kicking off while using GPS, I don't see why it would, mine doesn't. Not sure what to tell you.
Are you running a custom rom?
I do expect it to get hot.
That is normal as the phone is using alot of resources to do that function.
But it should not get to a point where it stops charging.
I have had the Amaze, Sensation, MT4GS, and G2x all have gotten warm but not really a problem where it caused it to stop accepting a charge.
I always remove it from the d30 case and set i cup holder so not trapping heat to avoid the problem.
A few times I have gotten it that hot with it not plugged in.
I only see the "overheat notification" orange blink green blink cycle when it is plugged in charging. If not charging not a problem there.
No custom rom or anything 100% stock and locked yet.
Data connection lost is a weird one.
My Girl has the same phone with no problem there and the 2nd device don't loose data connection just that it heats up really good. Don't know about heat on hers since she don't use GPS long enough to require a charge like I do.
Just the first and third phone that was sent to me have this problem with lose of data connection. Can't use it long enough to see if it over heats :-( lol
I completely skipped over the not charging part, after it gets hot.
I'm going on a trip in a few days, I'll see if my behaves similiarly.
I would just take it back and try again, no data while using GPS is pointless, unless its just a simple setting somewhere I've never seen.

Just tried a different charger and it got up to 45°c too
Both car chargers work fine on my other phones so don't think is that.
I use mine for GPS a lot (just made a trip from Atlanta to Knoxville ) and had my phone charging playing music and navigating and yes it got hot but it never stopped charging or did the blink cycle .. only time I saw anything remotely close to that is when I left my g2x outside while I was playing ball and saw a notification saying its too hot to operate but nothing on my s

I've been using my GPS for the last couple of hours now, been downloading maps for when I know I don't have service also along with navigation.
I'm ay 45 Celsius right now. I'm using a fm transmitter with a built on usb outlet on it that doesn't put out the needed power to keep my phone charged. If I was using a real car charger work the correct output I'm sure I would be a little more hot.
No data problems so far or anything else.

yeah the last few days I have been using it didn't break over 45 much but seems like I need to keep the AC pretty high to accomplish that.
Currently here in PA we have had a few really hot days for us which I know is much toward other states but has been in the mid to high 90's.
I think just the heat from that with windows down is not enough to keep it cool enough.
If the phone gets arround 45 c will be border line and seems like 46 is where over heat protection comes in and stops charging.
As a test I put my sensation in a thick rubber case left charging from 70% and gps that got up to 48 c but never stopped charging. Normally I never ever leave the case on while I do that but wanted to see in this case what would happen.
So it seems like just a HTC One S thing that if reaches a certain point to stop charging to help prevent damage or something.

i always have a data connection issue while using gps i have ever since i got this phone so that custom rom talk is bs this phone drops data all the time while using gps at the same timeand will not return until the gps is off
My phone also has the loss of data issue while using GPS. Shortly after the data loss it will also loose GPS signal and for me a reboot is the only solution

Putting the Phone in front of an AC is essential in the summer time.
As for the data and gps issues, are you on the latest firmware and radio?

So both me a my wife have the g2x, and we're both getting really fed up with them. My wifes phone is pretty unresponsive and crashes frequently, regardless of what rom she is using and if she starts from a clean flash. Could she be having a hardware problem? hers has never been overclocked at all.
My phone is much less problematic, but I still need to reflash about every 2-4 weeks, or else it becomes unusable. Whether it be the phone slowing down to a crawl, or like last week, I couldn't make calls after it being pulled from the charger until I restart. I seems like no matter what ROM I use, it always starts out blazing fast, then everything goes to hell in a few weeks. Both me and my wife are using the CyanogenMod Nightly from February (It has been the most stable to me, even more so than the march release).
Is there a more stable ROM that would suit us better?
At this point, I just want a phone that I don't have to mess around with for it to work, and have it keep working without having to reflash every month. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Stock ROM. But CM7.2 shouldn't be crashing on you like that. Do a full wipe?
Switch to old baseband (if you use Bluetooth) and flash weapon g2x. It is stock based with some nice mods
-- The noob says:
This just in... my IQ has increased 50 points thanks to the g2x!
Works fine for my P999DW
I'm currently using MIUI Stock w/ Optimizations. So far i haven't had any problems with this rom, and I've used it multiple times. It has a wide variety of themes that are very eye captivating, and even w/o OC my phone is blazing fast.
If you two love to install lots of apps and worry about your phone slowing because of excessive apps, then :good: MIUI.
I'm currently running on Trinity Kernal.
Also, if you don't prefer MIUI, and and still experience FC's and other instability errors, try getting a bigger microSD, and having apps like games, LW, etc. on the SD, saves more internal memory, and in turn, leaving more room for the smooth butter to glide :cyclops:
So I just switched to a Nexus 5 from a Galaxy S4.... loved the phone until I connected it to my Tundra OEM bluetooth system. Hard to pinpoint an exact problem, it just doesn't work right. Randomly disconnects, etc. I had zero issues with bluetooth with my GS4. Is there some fix I should be aware of? i should mention that I rooted the phone right off the bat and am running Cyanogenmod Nightly.
Try it on stock to see if you have issues. It's most likely a rom issue

I've had a similar problem on stock rom with stock, chaos, franco and arkenstone kernels so I don't think the rom or kernel is the root of the problem. It will arbitrarily not connect, it will connect but when a call comes in won't automatically go to bluetooth but go to the handset etc.
I had hoped it was fixed somehow but happened again today out of the blue. It also comes with excessive bluesleep wakelocks that impact my battery life significantly (goes from draining at .7%/hr to ~3%/hr).
