Alex brings up a good point earlier today about Google not releasing a new version of Android this year. Jelly Bean brings a lot of under the hood changes, and it's highly possible that Google is going to spend time and effort to refine them, and issue a few point-releases throughout the year and into the next. But of course, this is all speculation. We have no idea what Google is apt to do, and they could surprise us all.
But speculation can be fun. So let's do some! then feel free to expand your answer in the comments. You never know, Google may listen

I think there will not really be an other version. jellybean will maybe get an update but there will be no "Key lime pie" version this year.
requestion: does someone now who will give the versions the name?

Key lome pie are not sound good .. Lol
Maybe marshmallow will be fine..
Sent from my GT-S5360 using xda premium

Yes there will. If Apple is going to release a new phone and a new OS, so will Google. Period.
Sent from my wallet

Jelly Bean is the new version of Android for this year.
Sent from my MB860 using xda premium

I think Google wont bring us a new version but little updates for Jellybean like 4.1.1 etc.

as what blog said we will became busy this year for jellybean craze
Sent from my GT-S5360 using xda premium

Maybe later on in the year.
They usually release two versions per year.
JellyBean&?->2012
Honeycomb&ICS->2011
Froyo&Gingerbread->2010

I think there will bei a New Version this year, because still we are missing a New phone from google this year. I think there will be a New nexus phone like the galaxy nexus last year in october.

ics on captivate

when captivate user will get icecream sandwick update.will it be this year or next year or we will not get that update at all
Captivate will not get ICS at all. Gingerbread will be the end of the line for captivate.
not necessarily
it will never see a official captivate release
but an ICS port would not surprise me.

I don't have a link readily available, but there was recently an official announcement that basically said most if not all Gingerbread phones will get ICS.
Edit: That being said, I have no doubt there will be an unofficial version well before any official release. Particularly if you're waiting on your carrier to release it.
Edit #2: found one: http://www.techradar.com/news/phone...es/nexus-s-set-for-android-4-0-update-1034855
I'd be shocked if AT&T and Samsung released 4.0 for a phone that has been on the market already for ~15 months. I think our best bet will be a port from the Nexus S or CyanogenMod
Im pretty sure the announcement meant only phones that shipped with gingerbread on them.
CM9 will be just fine for me.

since ics has been (sorta) ported to sgs i9000 how plausible would it be to port it to the captivate?

Has to be a dessert/candy.
There has been a lot of talk in the industry about it being Key Lime Pie. I think the real question that we should be asking though, is whether it'll be a major or minor release (4.2,3,4 vs. 5.0).
Maybe we'll see something similar to Eclair, Froyo, and Gingerbread and it'll be minor, e.g. 4.2.
4.0 was such a major release, I couldn't see Google making another huge jump in OS design for at least anther 12-18 months.

Here's an idea

If you are like me that is in an ATT plan and is forced to wait an entire year to upgrade your phone here is a tip.
Right now another week has passed and we still have no reports on the ICS update we are suppost to be waiting and Jellybean is right around the corner. My guess is that this model is going to be outmoded in a matter of time and no more updates will be provided for us. This is still not official but it is a posibility. I have been looking up and Cyanogen is going to launch CM10 that is basicily Jelly. If the phone does get out moded then there is the perfect reason to root and apply CM10 when it becomes available. Sure you will no longer have the Samsung Galaxy style of android but still Jelly's UI is really beautiful and wohld work with a beautiful phone such as the Skyrocket.

Next nexus will be probably with motorola! Since they bought it and haven't yet worked on improving it, this must be their first step towards it!
There are rumours that they are already working on some "X" phone!

When will cm11 be released by brinly taylor?????

It will come out when he wants to release.. He said it is coming very soon..
Someone needs to define the meaning of 'Very soon'
No offense intended..
It's done when it's done, geez...
?
brinly keep said next week, soon and soon .. i hope the meaning of soon not at the end of this year .. but i will keep waiting for cm11 to be in our device
"Hi guys. I haven't had time to coordinate a FXP 303 release but I'll sort out something soon and a build/thread and building instructions
Today you probably noticed me cleaning up the source tree ready for merging (getting rid of all the unused and temporary files)
Lot's of real life drama on but that's cleared up now "
Saying this Brinly means that he will release building instructions in like 15 days. Tease people maybe with one more screenshot in next 15 days after that. Then will say i am giving time to devs a chance perhaps to build cm11 for like 1 month and after that will release cm11 2 months later..
So in short wait 4 months. MAYBE he will start THINKING to release it.
Patience
Eagerly waiting for it too.
Be patient. We can't force a developer to speed up things.
CM 11 will be available when it is ready. To make it soon we can only show our excitement (for all those who don't know how to develop CM 11 for XL).

Nah, more like spoiled brats.
We won't be that excited if he had not posted that it is coming soon, very soon..
He had said it in second last week of December, then he went on vacation.. We expected him to release it in January atleast.. But it's now almost last week of January and still we see the posts such as it is coming soon and all..
We do respect him, but he is requested not to excite us by posting that it'll be released very soon. Instead he should release it as and when he wants and surprise us..
