ics on captivate - Captivate General

when captivate user will get icecream sandwick update.will it be this year or next year or we will not get that update at all

Captivate will not get ICS at all. Gingerbread will be the end of the line for captivate.

not necessarily
it will never see a official captivate release
but an ICS port would not surprise me.

the captivate still has some class developers working on it so I am sure we will see advances,, hoping for major ones,, ICS does not seem at all out of reach

I don't have a link readily available, but there was recently an official announcement that basically said most if not all Gingerbread phones will get ICS.
Edit: That being said, I have no doubt there will be an unofficial version well before any official release. Particularly if you're waiting on your carrier to release it.
Edit #2: found one: http://www.techradar.com/news/phone...es/nexus-s-set-for-android-4-0-update-1034855

I'd be shocked if AT&T and Samsung released 4.0 for a phone that has been on the market already for ~15 months. I think our best bet will be a port from the Nexus S or CyanogenMod

Im pretty sure the announcement meant only phones that shipped with gingerbread on them.
CM9 will be just fine for me.

Google said that a phone should get updates up to 18 months after release

since ics has been (sorta) ported to sgs i9000 how plausible would it be to port it to the captivate?

Eris on Cyanogenmod version 7

Ha! Even my last phone, the Droid Eris, has a signed Cyanogenmod version 7 install for it. It works and looks awesome. Gave this one to my nephew. He's very happy Wish Thunderbolt were there ...can't wait.

How long has the Eris been out for? How long has the Thunderbolt been out for?
Is it the 4g part that makes it difficult or is it taking about as long as any other phone? EVO, I think, got cyanogen pretty quickly when it came out...maybe I'm wrong.

Cyanogen had a good friend with an Evo that was readily available for testing. And when he released it WiMAX didn't work.

GB update?

Any word on when att will push out the GB update? I hear sometime this summer but didn't know if anyone has heard of a specific date.

Nope, nothing definite yet. You'll know it is getting close when you see a leaked ROM come up as a story on the tech sites, as you see with most other phones who get their updated ROMs leaked.

+1. Usually you'll see an article on Android Central or Phandroid when one leaks.

I don't care what day it gets released anymore. It's probably going to take a long while knowing AT&T. I just want it to hurry up and get leaked.

I hear ya on that! A leaked ROM would tell me that it is in the pipeline and would be released in a couple, or a few months afterwards. After seeing all the other HTC phones get leaks of gingerbread, (Evo, Evo Shift, Desire, Desire HD, and Thunderbolt), getting official announcements, or actually receiving the updates, I'm wondering where our leak is. I'm not complaining, just would like to see a leak soon to know it is coming. I just would like us to get word of a leaked ROM, preferably before they officially announce the rumored Holiday. Especially since the Holiday is gonna be my next phone after I hit my upgrade.
Sent from my Inspire 4G using XDA App
There was a leaked ROM for the unbranded DHD a weeks or so ago. Surprised I haven't seen any ROMs based on it yet. I've been running it for a week or so and it seems super stable.

Newb question about kernales and BLN

Would flashing a samsung captivate kernal or an i9000 kernal brick the infuse? Im still kind of new and I dont want to mess it up. I searched google and the forums and came up with nothing. I really need my BLN back checking my phone every 5 minutes is killing my battery. Im use to my samsung captivate with 2.3.3 serendipity 7 build 2. Is there any way to get the BLN?
Yes defuse kernel but its buggy with bln everyone is waiting for gb
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I997 using XDA Premium App
I'm also a noob, but can i ask when do people think gb is coming out? What is the wait for? Samsung has to release an official port first?
Thanks
Yes and the devs have said they dont wanna have to refo everything over again so I woukd say within a month or so hoping thay is, need a good port
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I997 using XDA Premium App
There are two paths to GB for us:
1) Samsung releases a GB port for our phone, rom devs tweak it
2) Someone takes the Cyanogenmod or AOSP source trees and ports them to our phone. This is a LOT harder - it hasn't even happened for about half of the Galaxy S series. (Cappy and i9000 seem to have support, Fascinate does not.)
well IMO this phone would have been perfect with an LED light

Yeah, but a lot have unique styles and functionality. I see where you are coming from though, that is true. Its just nice to have something different than the plain gingerbread and cm7.
I see they have a p990 rom. Maybe someone should ask for an official p999 version?
Yeah I just noticed that. It would be nice to see this in the g2x development.

I did a quick look around and I guess the best guide to port from p990 to p999 is from bits of info here.
When I get time I will work on this, I also noticed the Ligux one also have a p990 build but it is ICS. I'm not even sure anyone would want it ported back to GB.
It would be cool to have another ics rom, try that. Variety is starting to come to our development because of you! [:
I personally would like a ligux gb based rom. Not too fond of ics

I would speculate that around 75% of all Infuses are running the latest and greatest, while the others are either stock or a GB port of some sort.
I have 2 Infuses, both run JB but the old lady doesn't want me flashing over her current firmware, RemICS-JB (2/23). I showed her all the new features in the current build, yet she is steadfast and wants to keep it. She will update when one is available though... (hint hint)

I cant get my wife off GB (Emancipation), doesn't want to deal with having to turn bluetooth on and off as needed.
I can't wait to see what fruit Scotts kernel project bares (fingers crossed), hoping for a bluetooth drainage fix and phone ringtone through headphones. 720p would be cool but not a priority for me.
Needless to say I think the point of this thread is about 99% of us non-code magicians would be lost without Scotts hard work and dedication to the Infuse.
most, if not ALL 4.2.2 infuse4g roms are based on his unofficial cm 10.1. including all of my roms
