Newb question about kernales and BLN - Samsung Infuse 4G

Would flashing a samsung captivate kernal or an i9000 kernal brick the infuse? Im still kind of new and I dont want to mess it up. I searched google and the forums and came up with nothing. I really need my BLN back checking my phone every 5 minutes is killing my battery. Im use to my samsung captivate with 2.3.3 serendipity 7 build 2. Is there any way to get the BLN?

Yes defuse kernel but its buggy with bln everyone is waiting for gb

I'm also a noob, but can i ask when do people think gb is coming out? What is the wait for? Samsung has to release an official port first?
Thanks

Yes and the devs have said they dont wanna have to refo everything over again so I woukd say within a month or so hoping thay is, need a good port
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I997 using XDA Premium App

There are two paths to GB for us:
1) Samsung releases a GB port for our phone, rom devs tweak it
2) Someone takes the Cyanogenmod or AOSP source trees and ports them to our phone. This is a LOT harder - it hasn't even happened for about half of the Galaxy S series. (Cappy and i9000 seem to have support, Fascinate does not.)

well IMO this phone would have been perfect with an LED light

Mind heading over to the infuse development forums and providing a system dump to us AT&T users. It will greatly help the Custom ROM development on your shiny new Infuse and make it a better experience for everyone
That was my plan but my boss ran out with the only working demo.. gotta wait to get my own lol

I would love to get my hands on the infuse, from what I've read its an amazingly well built phone with the power to back up the looks and I've been a huge samsung fan since the first galaxy phones came out. I definitely will have to get one for dev/personal use when my finances allow, and also the wife....lol

Lol yeah it is huge the icons on it are bigger than some of my widgets on my cappy and I've seen portable dvd players with less screen. It truly is a monster of a phone, but in a good way, not like the motorola bricks of the 80's that you had no hope of fitting in even a large coat pocket, they were some sturdy pieces of tech though I have one that I held onto that's been thrown, sat on, coffee spilled on, the list goes on and it still powers on and holds a charge and had 0 cracks anywhere on it, well the last time I had it out anyways, its been a lil while and after moving its hard to say.

ics on captivate

when captivate user will get icecream sandwick update.will it be this year or next year or we will not get that update at all
Captivate will not get ICS at all. Gingerbread will be the end of the line for captivate.
not necessarily
it will never see a official captivate release
but an ICS port would not surprise me.

the captivate still has some class developers working on it so I am sure we will see advances,, hoping for major ones,, ICS does not seem at all out of reach

I don't have a link readily available, but there was recently an official announcement that basically said most if not all Gingerbread phones will get ICS.
Edit: That being said, I have no doubt there will be an unofficial version well before any official release. Particularly if you're waiting on your carrier to release it.
Edit #2: found one: http://www.techradar.com/news/phone...es/nexus-s-set-for-android-4-0-update-1034855
I'd be shocked if AT&T and Samsung released 4.0 for a phone that has been on the market already for ~15 months. I think our best bet will be a port from the Nexus S or CyanogenMod
Im pretty sure the announcement meant only phones that shipped with gingerbread on them.
CM9 will be just fine for me.

since ics has been (sorta) ported to sgs i9000 how plausible would it be to port it to the captivate?

If you guys end up bricking then I will sell you my skyrocket on the cheap because this phone and I just don't get along that well anymore ever since Samsung disappointed me.
Of course right now there aren't any good options to leave to so please don't brick right now. Maybe when the note 2 comes out lol

Wrong device picture for Skyrocket forums

It is showing the AT&T Galaxy S II (HSPA+). It should be changed to the Skyrocket.

Huh, guess I don't actually have a Skyrocket since that is exactly what my device looks like. What the hell have I been using for the past seven months?!?
EDIT: Oh crap, I think you meant that the OG Galaxy SII is showing a picture of the skyrocket or i9100. This is screwed up!

Had to start a new post to show the picture:
I wonder if this incorrect picture for the i777 is contributing to the brickings due to flashing i777 roms on the Skyrocket. Still not a good excuse, but this could be very confusing for a noob...
EDIT: Wasn't sure who to report this to, so I found a mod in the i777 forum and pm'd him...
Heck- most if the Samsung phones look pretty close anyway.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I727 using xda premium
True, most do look similar. But i777 and i727 look pretty close as device names to a n00b, which really doesn't help either. That physical menu button on the og sgs2 might be just enough to make them stop and say, "Hey, that doesn't look like my phone..."
But as I said, it's still no excuse for not being careful when flashing roms. The risks are known and if you need to learn the lesson the hard way by bricking, so be it. All it takes is one hard brick to slap some sense into people (most people, at any rate).

What device is it even originally for?
Problem is gonna be resizing the whole thing and its kind of unclear if it needs 3.0 kernel to work.

Holy crap! I'm seeing files that I haven't seen before. Good luck to the others that want to give it a try. It's not a typical port.
