We would need new sim cards with the secure element before Google wallet would work. I highly doubt it will ever work on our phone.... Ever. I don't even think there are any non Google phones that have Google wallet working

Did anyone think because ATT enabled NFC that there are either 2 options as ATT unlike rogers wont leave a feature enabled that they don't want you to use. 1) ATT is going to support google wallet (Unlikely) 2) ATT is working on there own wallet thing

Nfc has many other uses besides Google wallet, I have a 50 pack of Nfc tags on the way. Program 1 to launch car home and stick the Nfc sticker on my dock so it auto launches car home, one on he night stand to evoke the desk clock at night, Pandora Nfc tag on the bathroom sound dock. Many many more uses.

Yes, they facilitate the interaction between the carrier and the financial institution to provision the wallet on your device from what I understand.

What? The competition is working together? I'm going to have to look more into this ISIS. Find it a little hard to believe that they all teamed up to build something.
Update:
You were on the right page but off a little. ISIS was founded by AT&T, T-Mobile, and Verizon. Also it will only be available for these 3 providers appearently in the summer.

PayPal's widget works with NFC. All it really does is let you request money from someone. So, you put in the amount and tap your phone to theirs and the request goes to their PayPal for them to authorize.
In other words, it takes out the steps of opening the app and sending the request.
Now, if I just had friends with phones with NFC....
That owed me money....
AND that were not BROKE!!!!

if paypal was to (and they might) step up to the plate, they could be #1 in the nfc payment market...
No doubt. PayPal is partners with MasterCard (I have a PayPay MC Debit card).
They could easily turn ANY phone with NFC into a MasterCard PayPass linked to your PayPal account funding method.

This might not happen anytime if you're on T-Mobile, though how they're going to implement this for the European models is unclear, so there's still a chance.
T-Mo will not agree to Google terms to use the Google Wallet ecosystem right now because they are developing their own payment system called "ISIS" - which is supposed to go to beta in Spring 2012 in a few places in the US.
Fingers crossed this gets worked out soon, but you didn't get any quick responses to your question because, honestly, nobody knows how this Google Wallet vs ISIS platform is going to play out.
I very much doubt we will get it (European nexus s). Because ics is just around the corner....

Yes, there is a thread pinned at the top of the general forum. It works fine, I've been using wallet on my VZW S3 for a few weeks now.
I cannot. No matter what I do I get error adding Citi card. Got free 10 bucks and used that fine. Just can't get card added.
I did have it added when I rooted using some sprint hybrid root then redid it using root 66. Have not been able to add card back. Even called Citi and had them remove card still did not work. Don't think card issue because I added to nexus 7 just fine. Don't know what the issue is. I followed directions perfectly.

It's weird because it's obviously communicating with Citi as everytime I try to redo the card, I get a pending authorization on my account but it just Google Wallet sits there hung on "Verifying your account". Didn't have any issue with the old hacked version but the new one refuses to work. Maybe they're only allowing certain devices?

Actually Hayos,
It is more of AT&T disabled the feature of our phones, since they are in development of their own system for NFC, where as for each "swipe" they get a piece of the transaction. But true it does NOT have good enough security features for the system as of yet.
This has been discussed at length in the threads. The SIM card does not have a required secure element and therefore it will not work on the phone. AT&T won't upgrade your SIM card to one with the secure element because they want you to upgrade to a new phone that will eventually work with Google Wallet.
IT IS NOT GOING TO WORK ON THE SKYROCKET.

Carriers...
This is a move by the carriers to enforce their move to go with the ISIS Digital Wallet. I have a Google Wallet ID setup and use it for the Play Store, but Google had A LOT of issues with security early on that scared a lot of carriers and users away alike....
Of course, the carriers get a piece of the pie from ISIS and with Google Wallet they were bypassed... hence.... the inability to use our device on said networks.... Sucks but its the reality of it all...
BTW - there is an APK that floats around saying it will make it work with your Skyrocket...
I can't stress this enough... I HIGHLY DISCOURAGE YOU INSTALL AN APP THAT HAS ACCESS TO YOUR FINANCIAL INSTITUTION, INCLUDING GOOGLE WALLET (MODIFIED)
If you do, you are just asking for it... and besides.... it won't work....

That's not entirely true. The reason your SIM works in the nexus is because the secure element is built into that phone. It is not built into the skyrocket, so we need the element put elsewhere...like a new SIM.

Just found out that ISIS is not compatible with the Verizon Galaxy S3! How stupid can you be, their top selling phone next to the iPhone and you are starting off a service by not making a top phone compatible? Who ever is in charge of ISIS should be fired.
It is possible to do as TMobile has made it possible. Instead Verizon has terrible phones that basically no one buys available to the service.
Just disgusts me.

Yet another example of the stupidity, fragmentation and stuff that doesn't work in Android. The carriers decide how to squeeze every last dollar out of users, Google doesn't bother to enforce anything and only cares about Nexus, oem's ignore Android standards.
Just watch while next year Apple comes out with its own branded NFC system and everyone will fall over backwards trying to support it. Then we can whine and moan about how 'Android did it years ago' while Apple will get a patent, millions of users overnight, and become the standard.
Apparently the only Verizon phone to support it is the Droid Incredible 4G LTE.

Yup. I'm really getting tired of Verizon being a dictatorship. THEY say what we get. Even though I plunk down $600+ for a new phone, or $200-$300 if it's an upgrade, (I can't use a phone for 2 years, I get bored) I don't get to use it the way I want to. Ridiculous.
To the people who aren't happy on Verizon, why not pay your eft or wait until your contract ends and leave to another carrier?
While you may see them as a dictatorship it was your decision to sign a contract with them. Research is key and living with your decisions, good or bad, is a part of life. We ultimately are to blame.

Well for some of us there is no good alternative to Verizon. We had AT&T since the first car phone came out. I had full service when I owned the original RAZR and we didn't even have 2g just regular whatever service. Then they upgraded the towers after Cingular was bought by AT&T and service got so bad that we had one bar inside but if we wanted to make a call we had to step outside on the porch. Then when 3g came we didn't have ANY service whatsoever in a mile radius. So for some of us we aren't there aren't any viable alternatives.
Plus Verizon has better service than any other provider I have ever been with, they are just dictators with their phones.
Sent by one of my many Anthromorphic Personifications
Nothing has been set in stone. A friend of mine explained the reason the S3 isn't working yet is that the firmware needs to be updated to use the newer sim system to allow ISIS to work (due to the LTE hardware that Samsung uses).
I expect this will be resolved shortly. As of right now ISIS is still in testing phases anyways. Verizon invested a lot of money in ISIS. It's in their best interest to get it working.

I didn't say you couldn't be tired of their bs. I'm not always thrilled with them either, but that's true with almost all companies. But when people throw around words like "dictatorship" and the like, it's extreme to say the least.
All I'm saying is at the end of the day we choose what we choose. We take the good and the bad with it.
