What is the difference between these 2 Android versions?I know jelly bean is for tablets and ics is for phones but is there any need to use jelly bean?

Stupid Swype, the title is meant to be jelly bean, but I don't know how to change it :s

And your info aren't correct. ICS is for both phones and tablets. The same will be for JB ...
JB is an upgrade for ICS fixes stuff and adds features ... see Here for more details.
uumm, jelly bean is not only for tablet..
It's an upgrade and some bugfixing as well as performance improvements over ICS.. You may or may not need that, but it's good to have..
It's not really a major leap, unlike from 2.3 to 4.0..
You only need to use newer version of android if you are the type who always want the latest and greatest.. while it's not as smooth as ICS or JB, Gingerbread is already enough for most users, especially if you are not power-user..
If you are asking that question, chances are, you don't even need ICS, let alone JB..
No offence but Google it, there are some really good articles and videos on Google, especially those that visually show the new project Butter.
And don't fear you're not alone with the Swype issues, just need to reprogram the brain to spend half the time saved by using Swype to re-read all input....nowhere near as easy as it sounds
Swyped from my DesireS
thanks

Looking forward to Jelly Bean
It is the best keyboard I have found but because I say jerky more than jelly, it remembers that I'm more likely to say jerky

ics i think
For now i am enjoying the ics on my note and i am waiting for the 4.0.4 update. I am satisfied with the late release of ics on note. I have n7000 and i got the update in june. Its fluid, stable just like how ginger bread was when i got my note. Jelly bean will take time to roll. My question is why all of a sudden we need jelly beans. Why not let the developers at ease so they can really make something special for all the devices at once. In current days new os is a guarantee to hi end device.

Why does it seem like the galaxy tab gets more developer attention than the xoom? Is it easier or what? They have all kinds of roms whereas the xoom has like 2. Just a question.
Sent from my Xoom using XDA Premium App
The car thing is some what right. The xoom came out as a "kit car", you'll need this and that BEFORE you can drive it. Where as the galaxy came complete. You can just drive it off the lot. So there is more interest in the galaxy.
That seems lame. I love my xoom. Just want to customize it more. I have no developing skills although I wish I had some. I used a adb for the first time with the xoom and it took a lot of trial and error. I have the galaxy s and flashing stuff is so easy on it(via Odin and cwm). Just wish the xoom would get more attention.

The reason why we are not seeing ROM's is because the Honeycomb source code has not been release nor will it ever be. We will have to wait until Ice Cream Sandwich for ROM's to start popping up.
Thanks for the info gq. Seems pretty craptacular....hahaha. Well c'mon ICS. Can't wait for that release

Also can't wait for Ice Cream Sandwich!
Need some rom for my xomm
last I heard, ICS isn't coming until Q3ish. Any updates?
Q3 Q4 who knows for sure. They just need to hurry up. It feels like tablets are kinda lacking in dev stuff.

why in iconia tab they are able to have touchwiz and is not the same for us?
for you in the next future will be possible to mount web os3 on our xoom?
and that you know is there some new launcher dedicate to honeycomb? or u know if some one is developing it?
i love my xoom like it is, but i love play on it too.

I try to donate to all who develope for my devices, my way of letting them know its appriciated and to keep up the good work, if you cant spare much, no biggie, everyone likes to get donations, even if its a dollar or two.
On another note we could make it appear to be a rom, but would only be a theme, a sham. Its definatly source code realese that is the problem.
Ice cream sanwich is google bringing honeycomb to the phone right, i thought, ics on phones, but honeycomb on tablets(because of its tablet opimization). Someone please correct me if im wrong, still fuzzy on the part.
Last thing, still cant decode 3.2 apks with sdk, still getting brut error, anyone have any knowledge of when brut will be realeasing this fix?
ICS is supposed to be the best from gingerbread and the best from honeycomb mashed together with some other goodies included, hince the name it is also to be universal for both phones and tablets, that way making apps much more abundant.
I am also excited for what it will bring the demo at the google i/o conf was amazing to say the least and i am sure the just scratched the surface.
Don't forget that alot of developers were give a samsung Google I.O.
I'm sure it helped a bit not having to pay for one.
Bought this phone on the promise of an ICS upgrade which was posted right on Telus' product page to be January 2012.
This is my third Android and I know from experience if the manufacturer doesn't announce the update is in progress, at least a month prior to its due date, it's likely delayed at least a month.
Anyone else feel the same way?
Frankly, the update process is super rediculous. Three different manufacturers, all terrible at communicating!
Sent from my SGH-T989D using XDA App
it's the same every year (it happened with eclair 2.1, froyo 2.2, it happened with gingerbread 2.3)
the flagship device will launch with the latest OS
then a few new devices of the same year launches with the latest OS
then 3 month later most last years phone get the new OS
your fault for buying something based on a promised update
a little research would have told you that it is not wise to do that... buy a phone based on what that phone is like today... not based on what the phone is promised to become at a later date.
Boo freakin' hoo, would you rather have a full functioning ROM or an ICS ROM pushed prematurely and have endless problems?

Word. I don't see why everyone is so bent out of shape about ics.
Gingerbread functions well and ALL the apps I want to use work on it. Is this the case with ics?

There is a brand called huawei. It announced ICS demo for x6 and uploaded the "enchanced" 2.3 rom for x5. do you know what? both of them is buggy as hell. x6 is the flagship, The first ICS update announced uploaded phone in world (at least they say) they uploaded 2.3.5 for x5 and they fcked with screen. now I can operate screen without touching.
Some devs are preparing ICS based roms for x5 but believe me none of them could finish them before feb. So I'm a x5 owner and I lost my hopes from updates. When after they introduced x6, whole x5 development stopped. That happes everytime. Nokia 5800, happened samething when c6 announced. N70, same thing happened after a year. Every f.ing time same thing happen, every f.ing time...

Honestly ICS is great, but some applications really don't play nicely with it. But unfortunately most users are constantly under the impression that new is always better, reality proves this isn't true.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda premium
Good point! Newer isn't always better, but around here (XDA) it's the only thing people care about (myself included haha).
How about you root your phone and put an ICS ROM on yourself? The thing is, what are you expecting with ICS? You realize that your UI is going to look exactly the same right? Touchwiz is going to be touchwiz...so unless you have a nexus, or an AOSP based ROM you arent going to see much of a difference except in your app drawer and menus.
http://www.androidpolice.com/2012/0...uted-shows-android-jelly-bean-is-version-4-1/
jelly bean seems to be an "incremental" upgrade from ics, which I don't mind since ics pretty much gets it right and is a gamechanger. interesting to see google partnering with nvidia though...not sure how well that's going to go
Anticipating the release. I hope it brings along some new features, which puts it further ahead of iOS.
i hope jelly bean bring impovement to android phones
I hope phones get Jellybean in a timely manner. The majority of new devices that have come out this year aren't even on ICS yet.
This is another reason why I only buy Nexus Phones. I am sick and tiered of not having ICS and then something else comes out and I am behind by 2 OS now
Im hoping the nexus 7 also has a 3G w/phone version. And minimal bezel. I'd be on board.
4.1 was to be expected. ICS was a pretty major upgrade merging phone and tablet there will likely be a few minor releases until Google adds something big like lapdock mode.
nVidia refused yo release their Tegra 2 Source Code for the G2x, what if they do the same with this device?!

Am I the only person that is terribly unsatisfied with ICS and JB? I was so excited for them for so long only to be severely disappointed. They aren't as smooth, or as functional as GB. My mother owns a Nexus S and was thrilled with it when she first got it running 2.3.7 out of the box. Since then it's updated and all she does is complain about how terrible it is running 4.0.1. I thank god everyday Im not stuck with it like she is. I almost have her talked into letting me root and flash it back to 2.3.7. My distaste for these OSs is so bad I refuse to buy anything I cannot get GB on. I surely cant be the only one who cant stand the taste of either. Shame on you Google! Shame!
What are your thoughts? Love them? Hate them? On the fence?
I personally like Jelly Bean. I prefer Gingerbread.
Go get an iPhone. My GN is as smooth as butter.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda premium
+ 1 To iPhone if she doesn't like through new os just switch. Plus if your not gonna root your android might as well have an iPhone. My ics is like warm butter can have multiple large apps open and still run games perfectly

i dont like 4.x,2.3.7 is better
ICS and JB are so much better than Gingerbread. The difference is like going from Windows 98 to Windows 7. Everything is so much smoother and more polished. And it doesn't look old.

3.x and earlier is unusably bad. At least 4.x is tolerable.
Jelly Bean and it's false promises of a smooth UI were pretty disappointing though.
My HTC Desire HD runs smooth as hell on both ICS and JB, and the ROMs are not even complete yet.
Do a factory reset on the Nexus S and set it up from scratch. A fresh start makes a huge difference.

Don't people coming up with these issues ever think that maybe they have a hardware, app or install problem? Android os has only improved over time in look and feel.
It's like those basing their Android experience on Samsung Touchwiz interface...

Whoever like GB more then ICS or JB, clearly is on some meds
Especially the transition from GB to ICS for me was like jump from the 60s to 2000! ( with keeping the awsome Rock songs on the way )
I haven't tried out JB yet, even though I could easily flash CM10 onto my S2. I haven't had a single problem or complaint against ICS though.
I think that's mainly because when I first got my Xperia S, it was originally on GB and I had nothing but problems with it. This tainted my view on GB, which before that happened I used to love it.
Just waiting to officially get JB on both of my devices though.
Velcro. What a rip off!
Jelly Bean :good:
I'm starting to think the OP is just joking around with us.
Im amazed at how can people think that GB is better than ICS/JB. My phone on ICS, runs like two to three times smoother than when on GB. On JB, it runs/feels around 4 to 6 times faster and smother. Everything is so dam great on JB. And we don't even have official ICS/JB libs and kernel. Seriously. Android 4.1 is the best version of Android so far. Period.

Im not joking. I ran ICS for a week and JB for 5 days. I was ecstatic to return to GB. It's like ICS/JB say heres your phone, but how we want it. I really dont like much at all about the newest OSs. If I wanted a phone to be like every other phone Id get an iPharce. And what I really dont get the most are some of the staple features from GB not being included in the new OSs. GB is easy to use and is packed with usable features. ICS/JB is dopey, UGLY, and not nearly as user friendly. This of course is just my opinion. As unsatisfied as I am with them, I am still an Android guy and always will be. It'll be a cold day in hell before I get an iAnything.
What phone, which ROMs?
AOKP ICS is amazing for me on my T989. Much better than any GB ROM I've used on any phone.

What "staple features" of GB are missing from JB? I honestly can't think of a single one. And ICS/JB being uglier and less user friendly than GB? I can't believe anyone could seriously think that's true. ICS and JB (especially the latter) look far more modern, polished and cohesive, and run so much smoother. ICS was the first Android version with a really good design in my eyes, and JB made it even better.
So, no, I honestly have no idea what you're talking about.

I get the feeling you haven't really used a stable build of ICS or JB. It makes no sense how you could draw those conclusions. What features are missing in ICS that were in GB? There are many many more APIs in ICS and JB, and it is much more capable. How does GB not look like it's from the stone ages in comparison to you?
So guys as most of you will know , Samsung will put touch wiz ui over jelly bean 4.3 before giving it to us. But why does it take long. I guess it just taking touch's wiv's coding and putting it on top of jelly bean...
So I'm really confused why does it take so long and why can't Google give us an option to get updates straight from them...
They would have to work around the TW frame work and it's stability before they release it. Also they would have to make sure that the air view and all that stuff work as well.
Wrong forum. But we're already getting one of the fastest updates from custom ROMs by our developers already since we have GE versions of our phones, thanks devs.
OTA of pure google roms with almost no delay is a reason why some people would choose GE phones or Nexus phones over the others.
Cheers.
