Hi everyone. I'm experiencing a slight lagging on the screen transition animation. It is occuring when I'm not on the proper orientation, such as when I hold my tablet portrait, or when on the flipped landscape (Samsung logo on the top, camera on bottom). It's just not as smooth as when I hold my tablet properly (Samsung logo at the bottom).
Is this a common issue or is it just my tab?
Here the detailed info about my tab.

As if every phone manufacturer tried hard to make already smooth phone lagged, my previous SE x10i lag horribly when using stock UI with added timescape, after rooted and using custom rom, it runs smoothly despite only 384 RAM and old snapdragon proc.
I wish hardware manufacturer like TI, Qualcomm, etc would release drivers just like PC / notebook and let us install OS of our preference.
The launcher comes with Touchwiz UI is very bad. It slow, heavy and lag very much although good hardware properties. Try another laucher such as GoLauncher HD for Tab and you will feel the smooth.
The stock launcher is really really worse, I replaced it by Go laucher hd and gaming is more smooth very much.

I too have the same problem with my tab even after an official update to 4.2.1. It really disappoints me while playing games. Hope samsung guys fix this very soon
I've also seen tablet of friends and I think it's a common issue.
Carbon Rom is awesome, made my tab twice as fast, plus it has a much better kernel included. Check it out! Based on CM 10.1.

those single core samsung devices usually run at lower resolutions and have less touchwiz bloat added

Just got the Xoom thursday. Been using it since then. Only got a handful applications & songs. Find it laggy & unresponsive sometimes.
Advice? **** for a dual core. Use it only in portrait. Unrooted.

If you have opted not to root or install a custom kernel, then the first step I would take in cutting down on any lag is to install a different launcher.
I can recommend ADW Launcher, LauncherPro and GO Launcher. All are great, very customizable, a good deal smoother then the stock UI on Honeycomb and come in both free and donate versions.
Install all three and try them each out, choose the one that suits you best.

Don't use it in portrait, problem solved!
I am serious though, tablet runs like **** in portrait. It isn't made for it.
I've gone to portrait no more than 2 times since launch. Landscape is much better, afterall.. it is a landscape tab
I'm running 3.1 and I don't really see the supposed UI hardware acceleration improvements. Sometimes swiping screens is pretty fluid and smooth, but many times after getting out of an application, the home screen will stutter into place and some initial swipes are jerky.
I occasionaly use the tablet in portrait when reading comics, using ConnectBot, Nzbget, Words with Friends etc, apps that force portrait and while I agree that it takes longer than it should to switch to portrait, once there it doesn't have any problems.
I am rooted with Tiamat kernel installed and OC'd to 1.4ghz but I don't remember there being any issues even before I did this.
Like P2flol said though, the Xoom was designed to be used in landscape... as all honeycomb tabs have been.

This is a famous problem!! Only use it in landscape while the front camera is on top! This is the only way to get 60fps all others will give you 30fps!
I seen this on youtube. I'll search for a link!

On the other hand some translations are missing with the latest Beta.

For me it lags irritating much when just having three screens with Accuweather, Samsung Digitalclock, Go Calendar and Go Message Widget and some app shortcuts, changed transitions to standard and behaviour to smooth but still way to laggy for me
Using the latest apk on my GNote. Not very smooth. ADW EX actually works much better in terms of smoothness and responsiveness.
Works fine here! No lags at all. But what is HD on this version? Everything is the same as it was.
I installed the .apk from the first post of this topic.
Actually, there is no lag. I had my Note set on a custom low power setting. Disabled that and now this launcher is running smooth as butter.

Lags just like 2.68 for me...
What kernel are you using?
I find it strange that touch wiz never lags but Go does...
Both seem to be hardware accelerated...
Optimisations i guess..

I have a Samsung galaxy note 10.1 and it is very laggy on the home screen. Is this normal? Here is a video I made with my camera
http://youtu.be/a3tyXOrQ4oo
Before I send it back I just need to check if it is normal or not
Without seeing the video, I'd say it's normal for the default home screen (Touchwiz) to be a little laggy when compared to a vanilla Android (like the Nexus 7) or a third-party home screen like Nova Launcher.
I'd personally recommend Nova Launcher.
it is not THAT laggy. and with JB update it is smooth.
In slow motion land, that is not normal. Try making a proper video first
not normal @ least in my experience mine has virtually no lag! I think that the opinion That Touch wiz is Laqqy is a bit off I have both the
S3 and N 10.1 and neither is at all Laqqy

Thanks for the useful comment.
I have updated the video to a higher quility.
Also waithing for Samsung Techy to call me back regarding this.
I did the slow motion to show the jumps it makes. some times it is smooth to some extend but most of the times it jumps huge parts.
Factory reset did not fix it and installing JB will void my warranty. So if there is a hardware issue then I will be stuck with it,
Try a different launcher from the play store like Nova it apex see if that helps. Also try clearing the cache for the touchwiz launcher if another launched works then u know its not hardware.

Hi
I was wondering if anyone knows a way to get CM10.1 to tablet mode (or Android 4.2.1 in general)?
I got same thing m8.. I got a samsung tab2 10.1 p5110 runing cm10.1 20130108-NIGHTLY-p5110 rom and the Google apps 12122012.
Installed the rom 2 times and its in phone ui mode not table mode.. Soft keys in wrong place back it hard to you.
Dont know if its just this nightly?
TeamEOS has an option to switch the buttons back to the tablet location.

They aren't in the "wrong place", 4.2 moves them to the middle.

While EOS has the option to move the buttons, you are still stuck on the phablet interface, which creates launcher lag and actually reduces screen real estate.
I recommend trying Dream's 4.2 which has the full tablet UI implemented. This makes it the fastest/smoothest 4.2 experience on Xoom at the moment, retaining the practical UI we all know and love.
Regards.

Apex is definitely the smoothest launcher with the new UI, but nowhere near how smooth it is with the old Tablet UI interface. I have a widget heavy set up and on any of the 4.2.1 ROMs in phablet mode there is lag, and I've tested all of the launchers! The devs are aware and have confirmed the issue with the new systemUI, there should hopefully be a fix soon!
Regards.
To me cm10.1 seems as the most polished version of 4.2.1 for the xoom (mz601 at least). I've tested them all. CM seems most lagfree of the three. But the thing is that i really liked the old ui better. I'm actually hoping that someone makes a flashable zip for cm10.1 to return to tablet mode since cm probobly wont implement this to their roms.
whats the difference between cm10? as that maintains the tablet interface and seems super smooth to me (overclocked to 1.4ghz)

dont know..... 1digit? I don't think it's worth the upgrade and loss of the correct button layout

As said in the title, is there a way so that when I have my phone in landscape mode, it uses the Tablet UI (mainly for apps, don't really care for home screen)? I know this seems very unlikely but boy would it be awesome
BTW I have a Galaxy Nexus running the latest Cyanogenmod Nightly with Android 4.2

I would check the development section. Some roms have the option for tablet ui but not sure the details of how it would work. Also post there instead of here you'll get more exposure there
