Easy rooting method! - Asus Transformer TF700

Hallo I´m new here and don´t know if I´m in the right line. Anyway I want to thank Sparkym3 for his way to root.
I just rooted a TF700t with his autoroot method and it worked without any problems. Thank´s for that.

Worked for me too, unlike the viperMOD_PrimeTime 4.6, which apparently requires an unlocked bootloader.
I've just done some build.prop tweaks, but the SIO scheduler hasn't been that great for me, I'm switching back to noop.
Edit: I will be staying with SIO after all. In benchmarks it gives me 50% boost, so it can't be bad in real life performance ;-) I've noticed delays/freezes while waking up the device from sleep, but it seems the reason is wifi switching (once the power button is hit, the device tries to reconnect WiFi immediately)

OK, noobie here,
Please be gentle, I don't have a tablet although by everything I've seen, the transformer will be the one for me. I've read over and over again how rooting your tablet is the best thing to do since bread slicers were invented.
Simple question though. What do I gain by rooting my Transformer ( when they actually ship it in North America ) ?
That's it,
Cheers,

You will be able to configure parts of the computer such as the processor etc that normally is not available to the user. You will be able to install custom ROMs which are different versions of the software included but will often be better than the original. As I mentioned earlier it will also (at some stage) allow you to change CPU settings so save battery or to gain maximum performance!
Hope this answers your questions, if you've got any more then fire away, thats why we're all here!
OK, cool, thanks for the invite.
Next question. If I root my Transformer, and ASUS puts out another version of their "ROM", will I be able to use the ASUS "ROM" ? Or once I root, I cannot go back ?
I obviously don't have a preference since I don't have a tablet yet. I've read how everyone loves the ROMS that out there ( Cyanogen, Vegan, TNT..... ) especially for the G-tab. I love overclockin, especially if you can notice the difference in apps like video playback and such.
For me, modding my soon-to-hold transformer isn't a done deal unless I know that whatever mod I do will enhance what I have, rather than simply replacing what I have. Does that make sense ?
So rooting will allow me to install different mods, and to get access at a deeper level to some of the inner gizzards of the tablet. Very cool.
Anything else it gives me ?
Cheers,
gpearson1968
Congratulations on making it and releasing to the community.
Don't know if this will affect your root method or not but there's supposedly a firmware update out from Asus tomorrow.

To answer your question about going back, as long as you do a backup in the recovery it installs you can always go back to stock. You can even unroot it if you want!
So far there are no replacement ROMs out there yet, but Paul from Modaco has released his add on pack which boosts performance and a couple of other bits and pieces and does not affect the user interface so its a good one to try if you just want performance.
Lots of other things and benefits will pop up as time goes on, only a few (very lucky!!!) people have the tablet so far!
Thanks - that worked perfectly! - Now to look at overclocking
This didn't seem to work for me, I could boot into Recovery and perform nandroid backup etc but when I rebooted I ddn't appear to have root.
I have since flashed MCR Beta though so I am happy enough with that.
Cheers for giving us root.

Forgive my simple question: is it possible to sideload apps without root? I gather there's another OTA due on April 28 and may try that before rooting. Would however like to install a couple of apps bought for my G-Tab.
rumors are saying now to root after the 4/14/11 update is ran. so just root it before u connect it to the internet and u can flash my rom and ill make a odexed version tonight after running some opts and go from there.
this devise i will be keeping to stock but will update new apps as needed once i get a new tablet next week.
New root method found will be out ~30th (to avoid the next OTA)
This allows custom recovery + boot image being flashed to the device
So all you US users can relax
I still do not have a device tho
PS.
This method is a team effort so credit is split

I'm probably getting one of these in a month or so and was worried about this
Just got my TF and attempted to Root. I press volume up as soon as prompted...
But, then it freezes at "Booting recovery kernel image"
Running "WW_epad-8.2.3.6-20110414"
Guessing it updated somehow without my knowing as the first time it booted it was running a 03/11 build....
I saw a reference to a 04-15 build... Could that really have been the 04-14 build? Is that why it isn't booting the recovery on my sdcard?
===========================
Disregard: I read on the MoDaCo forum that it won't work with the 04/14 build. :-( DAMN!

[WIP]Root for UCKJ4 via zergRush

Please read fully.
I was able to successfully root the stock UCKJ4 ROM from AdamOutler's great Heimdall package with the zergRush exploit, recently updated to work with Samsung devices.
More info from the original thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1321582
I'm not a developer for this tool, but it worked on [bold]my[/bold] phone and as always, YMMV. I'll post my testing results as I play with it some more here.
EDIT: This method seems to break Wifi connectivity. I'll keep checking on this method as the ROMs are updated and the zergRush exploit is updated. This is not a daily-driver method to root at this point.
Edit: All apps I've tried so far with root access have worked perfectly.
After rebooting, I seem to have an issue where the phone operates for about 30 seconds before the screen flashes and goes dark, then appears to 'soft reboot' and rescans the internal and external SD cards. Need to figure out what is causing this behavior. Might be the CPU tweaks from ROM toolbox.
Edit: Looks like disabling the on-boot application of CPU governor settings and the Voodoo driver has helped. I'm thinking it's the CPU governor settings, specifically.
More Edit: Auto-loading voodoo kernel module seems to be working fine.
More more: Random restarts keep happening from time to time, this time it actually seems to be related to toggling Wifi. Yep, Wifi toggle seems to be causing the issue. This method is probably not ready for prime-time.
That's cool there is a new exploit but I don't see what is hard about flashing a kernel to root. It will certainly help with future devices so devs can get a kernel or dump in the first place without waiting for leaked Odin packages to drop from Samsung. This will definitely be appreciated in the skyrocket forums. I wonder I'd this will work on ics

Thanks, this is really my first attempt at writing an Android guide, so it's mostly my personal tinkering just put to paper. I like this method since it maintains the stock kernel, and I was hoping I could have root and HDMI working at the same time.

Well yeah that makes sense since kernel flashing means toy have to flash twice to get hdmi, once for root, once for the stock kernel. Hopefully it won't stay that way for long.

Can't decide...

Hi,
I still hesitate weather to flash Clean Rom or not.... it's not that I care much about loss of warranty, but I'm not familiar at all with these unlocking, rooting, flashing operations and not sure if I'll manage to do this flawless.
...so I still have a stupid hope that ASUS will solve all stock rom problems (lags, hiccups...etc) with JB 4.2.
Is it worth to wait and expect ASUS to update stock rom to the same level as Clean Rom is now (haven't seen myself ...only read in this forum)?

Unlikely. CleanROM contains so many tweaks and workarounds that are not suitable for inclusion in an official firmware.

Trust me, cleanrom is super fast and smooth. It's worth it. When JB 4.2 come out, Cleanrom will have a new build on 4.2 and it will be even faster. Stock rom will always far behind. Currently we have all the automated scripts that do the install for us, so not to worry too much how this.
1. Unlock (download the unlock app and run it. No risk here, either it worked or failed, no harm)
2. Install recovery script to pust custom recovery (double click on the bat file and watch it does the rest)
3. Boot into recovery, select "install" browser to the romzip file and swipe to install
Reboot...profit!! The only downside is warranty, will be void if unlock. There is no news that JB 4.2 will be available for our tf700, so I won't hold my breath for this.

Ok then... few questions before unlocking...
Kernel.
What kernel shoud I choose? Generaly my target is to speed up browsing and to have battery life as long as possible ....so far as I understand I should choose Asus stock kernel? Is this right?
DPI.
What is stock DPI of TF700? I read in some posts that some people had problems with some apps because of choosing wrong DPI. What DPI should I choose in oreder to have as less probs as possible?
FSYNC.
Does disabling of FSYNC has significant impact on performace? Is it worth to mess with it?
Thanks in advance.

Kinda enjoyed not dealing with flashing, wiping, reinstalling, etc. all the time, I did that with my last phone what seemed like every day. I just couldn't stand HTC Sense and the bloatware, had to do it.
Unlike most here I don't mind the stock Asus firmware on this thing so I figured I'd save some free time and not mess around with anything. Now I'm kinda bored and really wanna see what this device is made of.
I'll probably get my SG3 going next!

Trust me:
1) installing a custom Rom on the tf700 makes this bad boy fly! It is really night and day
2) Installing a custom Rom on a (contract free) SIII is super easy. Took me 30 seconds to root, no need to unlock and boom. You are ready to flash CWM (highly recommended for the SIII) and there you go: a cool custom rom for the SIII
(PS: For the tf700 I'd recommend to use TWRP as a recovery)

I'm in the same situation (TF700 is sitting at home now, freshly delivered this morning and I'm fighting the urge to have a 'family crisis' that needs my attention and ditch work). I started a thread to try an pull together an easy list with links to get from un-rooted, locked, stock to custom pleasure New (virgin/stock) TF700 to CROMI 3.2 - is this right? as well as check before I started that everything was right.
I think that I've got it sorted in post 6 and have spent a lot of time trawling the various forum posts. In the video you mention from saugstauber / Dominik is really good and he notes that as he hasn't rooted his device prior to starting that he needs to push the recovery via the ADB tool rather than GooManager (that needs root).
I hope to get cracking on it later and will try to document each stage of the process and write it up for the XDA community with some explanations of each stage.
I did it yesterday, it was super easy. No hiccups at all
Started with CleanROM, then decided to try BB7, but it was still a little too buggy. CleanROM seems more stable, back to that for now.
So far, I don't notice too much of a difference performance wise. It's still not smooth at all switching between applications and opening and closing them. Scrolling while browsing isn't any better either. Both my Kindle Fire and SG3 are still much smoother than this.
Oh well, I'm glad to be able to get rid of the bloatware at least.

Hm... strange... my experience with clean rom is very good....compared with stock rom browsing became pleasure...of course it is not perfect...but now I feel that I have different tablet.
Earlier l was getting "wait/close" message several times per day...now it's gone. Scrolling through pages is A LOT smoother. And generaly typing lagis almost gone...switching throw apps is a lot quicker. Youtube shows videos with any pauses.
I was in the exactely same situation of the OP, but decided to go to the flashing world for my new TF700.
I followed carefully every instruction a the flashing of CleanROM went well and now I have a new tablet. Ir is now really smooth and most of the lags are gone.
For you that are still hesitating I highly recommend unlocking and flashing CleanROM to see that you have a top device.
For your information the steps I took:
1) Unlocked
2) Installed ADB on my computer. Struggled a bit to set the path (which was not exactley the same as in the tutorial) but all went well.
3) Installed drivers via ADB tools.
3) Checked if ADB was correctly installed and the tablet recognized by pc.
4) Flashed TWRP via ADB.
5) Backed up device using TWRP.
6) Copied ROM to the tablet internal memory.
7) Flashed ROM, choosing modified stock kernel by thats_ok and kept fsync enabled.
8) Enjoyed a new tablet.

[Q] Root after updating to 10.6.27.5

Hi all, I just picked up this TF300T and accidentally updated it to 10.6.27.5 and can't seem to find any root that works with this version, I was wondering any of you guys have any idea how to root it? i already have it unlocked with the official asus unlocking apk.
also just a side question, my TF300T seem to be running extremely slow and glitchy, any ideas? or is the stock rom just not that great?
Thanks.
Edit:
also side note, I was able to boot to recovery, but it doesn't have the USB icon in the middle
it's got RCK / Android / WIPE DATA
if i click RCK it just gets stock there with the Android guy open with a red ! on it
it i click Android it just boots into normal OS
and wipe data is prob just wipe data havn't tried this yet
Update:
I got my tablet rooted.
in here it'll help you downgrade to 10.6.8.1 and all that good stuff.
please visit for more info

and also just FYI.
use [openrecovery-twrp-2.6.3.0-tf300t-JB] when i used the 2.5.0.0 my screen was split in half.
Sorry - seems like I just posted the exact same question.
I will just add that I tried to install CWM recovery before updating the FW to 10.6.1.27.5 and had the exact same problem with the previous FW.
does anyone know if i can downgrade it from 10.6.27.5 to 10.6.27.1 or even before that?
thanks.

Welcome to XDA,
To solve any problems with your device, 1st search and read, read, read! Then ask questions if you can't find it. If anyone helps you, thank them using the "Thanks" button. Take things slowly, don't overload yourself with information. Eventually you'll be a pro and helping others out.
Watch this to learn not how to be a n00b new user and to be a good user.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JmvCpR45LKA
If you read enough, you would of learnt all (stock) TF300T users lost root after the update to .27.1, and also .27.5.
To get root, try downgrading and rooting via mottochopper
Read these:
Mother of all guides and then some
Downgrade Android
Use this for root afterwards, works with versions before .27.1
Have fun rooting! If you have any questions, I'll be happy to answer them.
Hit that thanks button, its a good habit to get into.

Wont Root.

Hello.
I tried to root my phone, but I cant get past flashing the superSU.
I am running the latest version of android and I tried both TWRP and CWM.. I get to flash the custom recovery and boot up, but as soon as I try to flash SuperSU the phone gets stuck into bootloop. (also when I use CWM phone automaticly overwrites the custom recovery to stock, I know how to fix this but I must get the root access first though...)
I am a bit lost here.. What do I do ? Currently I reflashed factory Images and I am using my phone completely naked only with vital apps. But I am not willing to back down, I would like to find the fix and Root it till the end.
Thanks
You have read up on this, right? Marshmallow requires a special kernel to allow root - such as Elementalx.
Or look for Chainfire's systemless root, which will amend the boot image (containing the kernel) as part of the installation process. I'd recommend v2.62, since I've seen a number of people saying that the later versions don't work for them.

And also... While looking for a solution I found that TWRP isn't supported on marshmallow yet as well?
Where did you read that? I didn't install TWRP permanently, I just booted into it to install SuperSU v2.62, but it worked perfectly well on my 6.0.1. My wife's Nexus 5 is on 6.0 MRA59N and TWRP 2.8.7.1, no problems.

You can probably find the links to Elementalx and the TWRP img somewhere on the forum, I have them actually too. Try the BETA-SuperSu v 2.52 with N5ElementalX-6.0.zip and TWRP 2.8.7.1-Hammerhead.
"BETA-SuperSu v 2.52 with N5ElementalX-6.0.zip and TWRP 2.8.7.1-Hammerhead"
Over-complicating it. Just TWRP and SuperSU 2.62. No need for a separate kernel.
I read it on one thread here.. Where a guy said he forgot that it wasn't supported on marshmallow yet. Not sure where he got that from though.
Also while we're at it.. If I install this kernel and modify it. Later if I change ROMs, can I somehow install it with the previous settings? Or I have to change them every time?
I don't understand your question. Which settings?

When you install kernel you can choose some kind of settings.. Isn't that right? Overclocking etc.. Not really sure how that works since I've never done it though. Maybe there are apps for that?
I applaud your sense of adventure, but why are you risking bricking an expensive phone by playing with settings you don't (yet) understand? I admit that I haven't the faintest idea, since I've never been tempted to play with kernel tweaks for this very reason - I don't understand them, have no particular desire to kill my phone, and have no specific need to "improve" what is already a very good experience. "Overclocking" = "more heat" = "reduced life", and for what? A millisecond saved?
I'm sure you've heard the old saying about learning to walk before you run...?

I did not mean that I'm about to do it right away. Simply gaining as much information about this as possible. the more I know the better. Even more I have no need to overclock it.
Over clocking is easy. All it involves is busybox and some other programs. It sets a CPU governor. You can set it to performance when the screen is on and battery saving when the screen is off etc. Didn't ask for negativity, I'm new and only trying to help.

There are always reasons to overclock and underclock a phone. For example,my phone is fast enough as it is, 2.3ghz Quad Core. But the battery life is shocking. I need to underclock when the screen is off and set the governor to interactive when the screen is on. Different phones maybe people who are getting root to speed up their phones want to set the governor to Performance. Hope I helped.. Reply to the other dudes comment, I didn't ask for the negativity as I'm new and would like to help out where I can.
