Can i use No frills CPU or any other cpu controller with stock rom and kernel?
Yes I believe you can as long as your rooted.

Yes, you can. However you won't be able to overclock anything since the stock kernel doesn't support that. You can only change governors and I/O scedulers. If you want to stay on the stock kernel but have the ability to overclock/undervolt, you can try SebastianFM's kernels.
I also tried to overclock my CPU with stock kernel. Is does not work and changing the governors just makes the phone a bit slower for me cause the kernel doesn't really support is. Try senseomaniac rom, has the bricked kernel. I am using now and works great.

You don't have to change ROM to use another kernel . If changing the governors makes your phone slower, you probably tried 'conservative' or 'powersave'.
Yeah I know for only changing kernel, but is much easier to flask complete rom then only kernel, kernels differ and are many for different phone roms made for spicific phone then kernel will work. I had screen off governor set to 1cpu and 192 fq, made the unlock slow

No i was unable to use No frills, i set min to 192Mhz, in the application it says 192Mhz but actually it stays at 384Mhz.
I think he meant stock rom. You need a custom kernel to change the frequencies and voltage, that includes lowering the lowest possible frequency (384 to 192).
Yes, i apologise, min was 384. Didnt pay much attention to the numbers

I have an Htc sensation with ARHD 3.6.2. The rom has a faux123-v0.2.1 kernel. The thing is my phone randomly reboots. So i'm thinking it does not like undervolting because i dropped the cpu frequency & it still does it. So i went to the faux123 kernel thread & it saids to use the stock voltage version but i cant find it on there. Can somebody please help me on how to get the faux123 kernel with stock voltages and no undervolting or an app that i can use to change the voltages back to stock. I would appreciate it alot!!! Thanks
Use fauxclock app to adjust voltage

Flash the attached kernel, latest faux kernel and then install the faux clock .075 App..
Thanks So much Guys.
Hello world. I'm running faux 004 but when I try to mess with my CPU limits with SetCpu etc. It only goes up to 1.51. What do I have to do to make higher speeds available?

try system tuner to overclock your processor...it works with faux 004 (also if you want performance change the governer to ondemand. its possible with system tuner too)

Each kernel has a range of frequencies built in, check the specification before you flash to get the range you want. All of the CPU management apps can only work within the ranges defined in the kernel.

Try the new Bricked kernel. You can easily set the maximum and minimum frequencies simply by renaming the ZIP file. Use Recovery to flash. Setting CPU frequencies was never that easy!
I would say try bricked (like aayush mentioned). As he said, you can change the clock speeds by renaming the zip file (up to 1,944 Ghz, but only if your phone can handle it, so I would suggest that you first use "System Tuner" to test how high you can go with oc).
try searching for a kernel that supports hiigher clock rate
for example when flashing arhd it asks you about the kernel you want and not sure wich one can go to 1.7ghz or more

I agree...with bricked kernel, you can set CPU min/max....
I tried Bricked at 1.83 and works like a charm. Tried at 1.99 but after a minute or so my phone rebooted so I'm back to the more stable 1.83 and the battery is amazing!

Well I'm a little confused with these kernels, I have tried using both kernels with ARHD and the only one that seems to work correctly is the SebastianFM. The fuax123 kernel just keeps my phones CPU cores both at 1.51ghz, without any intelidemand governors, also, regarding RAM management, which one is the best between the two?
If anyone understands why the fuax123 kernel is acting weird, please clarify cause I'm stumpted,
Thanks a lot!
They are both great kernels I used bricked kernel myself but used to use Sebastian kernel for a long time just try them both for a week see what you like the best

faux shouldn't be forcing both cores online, especially with his newer intellidemand tweaks. You can read his explanation on his thread. Which version of faux are you using? There was also a problem reported by some ARHD users that faux came with ondemand by default when they flashed the ROM. Reflashing the kernel should correct that.
I've used both kernels and both are fine for me, although different phones seem to prefer different kernels. It also depends on your usage pattern. As mike1986. himself says, if you're happy with your kernel, then don't change it.

Im actually having that very same problem of my governor being on "ondemand", how shall I reinstall the kernal, do I download faux's kernal from his forum or reinstalls ARHD and install the kernel given their during the installation process.
Thanks!

You can download the kernel from faux thread...and can flash it just like flashing Rom/any mod.....flashing kernel via Rom will give you the same results again....
Also if you just want to change the govener you can install system tuner to change it to intellidemand governer and apply the changes in system tuner to keep it for every reboot

Thanks for your fast reply!
I'll reinstall that kernal,
I don't want to install system tuner and need to have it always running in the background for the cpu to be in intellidemand, that's why I want the kernel to do it automatically,
but ill try and flash the kernal again,
thank you!
try bricked kernel

Bricked Rocks , u should give it a try show-p kernel wid new badass governer
I tryed each kernel, and i had a problem with the first flashing of each one, dunno why!
i had to reflash always twice time, and at the second time everything were good.
i'm now holding Faux kernel, i think is awsome, let have a look at my attachments to see my battery usage with intellidemand..
bricked one is good too, as all the other users told u...TRY'EM ALL!
Lollaz
I have used Sebastian kernel for weeks. Tried also faux. I had my best experience with bricked on ARHD 6.6.3.

Best for sense 3.6 is Faux kernel
Well I've now tried Faux123 for a few days and my battery life has been drained, right now, at day 3 of having faux, I'm at 46% battery with 9 hours and 33 minutes of usage, though with SebastianFM I got like one and a half days, solid, If I was bothered I'd upload a picture showing my phone lasting for 1 day and a few hours with Sebastian. Dunno why but battery life/smooth phone really contradicts itself :/
What's a bricked kernel? I've always been hearing about it but don't entirely understand what it is, sorry but I'm kind of new to this whole kernel thing
I see people writing about setting their Xoom CPU to 1504MHz and higher, but mine won't allow anything above 1000. Am I missing some setting in SetCPU?

Are you running a custom ROM or kernel that supports overclocking? If you're not then 1000 is your max cpu speed. If you are, then what ROM/kernel are you running?
I'm running the rooted stock ICS ROM. I thought maybe because it was a ROM it would allow overclocking. I suppose I'd have to run Tiamat or something like that to get overclocking. Not sure I'm up for the reinstall.
Thanks

yes you have to be running a custom kernel which you will not find with the stock rom. Other wise just use the profiles with setcpu those help with battery life even on the stock rom.

I think you can just flash the latest Eos kernel and leave your rom stock. If you have one of the custom recoveries, it's easy.
I'm curious of whether it's okay to run no-frills CPU with stock JB, as it doesn't seem to have a CPU governor.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=911917
Is it recommended or needed?
Thanks!
On the stock kernel, it won't do you a ton of good... And you will have to be rooted to use it.
thanks, I'm rooted.
The reason it won't do me a good must have been that the stock already has a governor or something ???

Stock kernel doesn't allow for under/overclocking... I guess there are a couple of governors on the stock kernel, so you could change those around?
Custom kernels give you options like under/overclocking, different governors, different schedulers... etc.
So there's no reason you can't put NoFrills or any other CPU control app on a stock kernel, you just won't get a whole lot of choices with the stock kernel
