Hii everybody .. i have a problem with my sidekick 4g Tmobile sometimes it looks like everything is just normal but sometimes its just getting crazy and start to click and doing things even if i dont even touch it, I tried hard reset and a new rom using odin but after few hours it starts to get crazy again please tell me what is really the problem is it a software or hardware problem .thank you for your help
With the stock ROM, this is incredibly common. Mine, along with friends I know, device's did this not too long after we had them. I would say try flashing a custom rom. Another thing that would help is to disable the optical joystick under accessibility, when that gets too much light, the thing goes bat ****.
It's pretty common for our touchscreen driver to act up. This can usually be fixed by toggling the screen off and on again. And being capacitive, it can react if you have a finger right on the very edge of the screen, or a lot of moisture anywhere on it.
Also, the optical trackpad tends to freak out in bright sunlight. I turned mine off completely because it was so useless.

I think that i will try a custom rom and see ..but for disabling the optical joystick i've tried that but still the same problem /thanx
I had a very similar problem (thread here). If you wipe your screen on your pants/shirt or with a damp cloth/napkin/whatever, is the problem fixed for a short while (even just a minute or so)?
I found that oil or something on the screen causes it to go wonky for some reason. The solution for me was to order screen protectors. I guess they block the oil or whatever it is from contacting the touch surface. Whatever the problem is, a screen protector has fixed the problem for at least two of us, so it's probably worth a shot

After use for a period of time my screen will start to create these dead spots and it prevents the phone from detecting my finger in that specific area how can i fix this without restarting my phone everytime this occurs?
I have this issue also, however it is very uncommon for me and simply locking the screen and unlocking it has resolved the issue.

Natic, your problem is common and known since gingerbread i believe. Wulamoc is correct, the easiest fix is just cycle your screen on/off with the power button as described.
hello,
i've also been having issues with "dead spots" on my Inspire's touch screen. it's about 1 centimeter wide and runs down the entire left side of the touchscreen. it pretty much renders typing in portrait mode useless because my E, S, & Z keys cannot be pressed because they are in the dead zone. luckily i can still type in landscape so it isn't too bad.
what is really weird is when i use the phone normally and i swipe over the dead spot the screen jumps because it's not registering over that small area. BUT when i swipe my finger across the dead zone REALLY fast back and forth, the touches register! i've tested this using an app from the Play Store called "Touch Test".
Just so you know i have rooted my phone and flashed a few ROMs already, i've seen in other posts that this sometimes happens on certain ROMs but the dead spots are usually alleviated with a reboot, turning the screen off, turning the device into landscape mode or as a last resort wiping the device. I've tried all of those and to no avail. i've used CM7 and aospX, but the problem started when i was on CM7.
i'm hoping that this is just something to do with software and i may be able to fix it myself without taking the phone apart and replacing anything. i don't have the dexterity for that i am already out of warranty and none of the current phones on AT&T interest me at the moment so i wanted to make this phone last as long as i could..
any type of advice on how i could fix this would be appreciated..
thanks in advance

I'd say that the part where you're in luck is that a lot of people are always after the new thing. You should start seeing Inspires on eBay and Craigslist at an awesome discount. Good luck to you, I'm in the same boat, I honestly can't see moving away from the Inspire until AT LEAST upgrade time.

You won't find a better at&t phone for what the inspire goes for. Replacing the screen could be cheaper but then again you might destroy it. You could sell it on eBay as a fixer and put what you get toward a working replacement.

Replacing it myself isn't an option for me. I am almost certain that doing that will end up with disaster. I was hoping it was a software fix, where wiping the phone or factory resetting would work.. But if all else fails I could tough it out and wait for the AT&T One XL..

can you give us some basic information? such like rom & kernel version, wether you rooted and ade using cputuningtools or something like that.

Agree. :good:
I'll wait for a few weeks or till the phone is usable for the kernel 3.0. :fingers-crossed:
If not then no other option but create a Rs.5000 hole in my pocket. :crying:
Same case with me... Bought the i9003 March 2011.
I'm on DDKP3 and around the same time as the OP, my touchscreen started to act strange... responsive only when charger is plugged in. Tried factory reset, but problem came back after some hours!
If this is a product-wide issue, then I guess sammy should replace it for free, even if it's out of warranty... too busy to go to the nearest service cenrter, will check later.
Till then, please keep me updated how it goes for you.
---------- Post added at 02:31 PM ---------- Previous post was at 02:24 PM ----------
Just wondering, if a reflash of DDKP3 via ODIN or any custom ROM would solve the issue... please suggest.
I guess the sensitivity settings (or something like that) has changed without you knowing. Don't know if it is the same as s2 but in s2, sensitivity of the phone not plugged in the charger and plugged in has different settings. So maybe the settings for it in your case (unplugged) has changed but not on the plugged in settings. It's all in the kernel btw.

Same problem!!!
It happened last week when my phone surprisingly started showing this problem. After unlocking the phone the screen becomes unresponsive. In my case it is just 1-2 secs after unlocking the phone.
It lasted for a day, I tried flashing different ROMs. I was on XXKPE when it happened. And than suddenly my phone started working fine until yesterday when this thing again happened and the problem still persists (I am still on KPE). I dont know what to do.
I think it can be some software problem as the screen and touch keys do work for some time before becoming unresponsive and even the logcat shows no problems for the touch screen. I am going to try more ROMs now. Will keep you posted.
Possible solution !!!
Friends, I think I found a possible solution for this issue. Though it seems to work for me... I have to keep the phone under observation for some days until I can say it's the final solution.
A similar thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1695149
The possible cause for the touch screen going unresponsive seems not to be a hardware/software glitch; but environmental issue! And it doesn't depend on the ROM your'e running.
I noticed that most people from India having this issue say that this problem started in June, when the rainy season starts and it gets humid and damp.
In fact my phone showed this issue when it had rained for the last 2 days and it was very damp and humid inside the house.
You can do the following:
1. Take out the back cover, memory card, SIM and battery.
2. Place the backside of the phone near a hot air source (on top of a running CRT TV/monitor, hairdryer, laptop fan vent) for sometime.
3. Reassemble and check if the problem has gone away.
Do not panic if the handset gets a bit hot in the process!
In my case, I left it on the top grille of a CRT TV for a day which ran for 8hrs.
Do let me know if this works for you...
Flashing the ROM does not solve the problem

i used to have this fairly often but it's been a while now. i would fix it by wiping down the screen really well, leading me to believe that it might have something to do with grease or something that gets on the screen. not positive tho..

Well, now that i have installed some mods and other stuff it seemed to have stopped. Don't know why the mods would affect it... I will wipe it down though just to be safe.
It's just the way it is - as it's winter now, and it's cold, it happens to me and my friend all the time, when we are using the phone outside. Screen off and on and it's working for another 30 seconds
yea when its cold outside mine does this as well +4C and lower. I took it apart and re seated the connectors it made little to no diff. when its warm i have no issues at all.
Could also be something on the screen itself - even a screen protector that gets damaged could cause an issue.
Also a case could cause the problem - I've had similar issues with my case/screen protector interacting with the screen.

The same thing is happening to me. I thought I was going nuts! But yes, when it's exposed to cold temperatures (35 degrees or so and lower), the screen can develop a mind of it's own. Kind of sucks in Wisconsin!

I have had this problem with the both the new Q LTE I received when the Q LTE launched, and also with the refurb unit I have received from Sprint.
Is there an explanation of the issue and a fix?
Should I swap it out at the Sprint store for another refurb?
Thanks.
(thanks to the OP for posting the you tube video)
Has an had any issues with screen calibration? Sometimes when I click on the screen it presses to the left of it. When I'm in the recents screen for my apps, it sometimes swipes away instead of selecting it, and I'm unable to consistently unlock the phone while it is charging. (Works like once in every 5 times) however, I'm on sure if that one is related.
Anyone have any ideas?

Did you install a screen protector? Could be the reason for sensitivity issues. If not, I don't know. Maybe a factory reset Will help?

I removed the screen protector when I purchased it. I could do a factoru reset and see how it goes. Hopefully it's software related and not hardware related.
I do hope so as well then. I do have to say that the factory installed screen protector doesn't do this screen justice.

Lol, no, this phone comes with a screen protector pre installed .
The touch sensitity is definitely off a little. I have to swipe the notification bar sometimes twice for it to come down. I also get some missed taps but it's infrequent enough that it isn't a problem for me. I heard they started fixing touch latency and optimization in 5.1. Don't know if we will ever see it.
If you are not using the stock charger weird things can happen.
Alrighty update: Factory settings still yields the same results. It's not frequent enough to make me go crazy, but it's still roughly the same. I guess my real pet peeve is when I need to go to the app manager to return to an open app and it just closes out. I've lost a lot of information that way like recipes when cooking and etc.
What I really don't understand is the fingerprint sensor not working while it's charging. It doesn't matter what charger I use. It just doesn't respond most of the time (Sometimes it unlocks like it's suppose to)
Im using Quick Charger from SS and I have this problem too. It's nice to know this is a common issue, not only me. I dont have any issues with fingerprint when charging, just notice when the battery between 5-60% it's insensitive for me (maybe quick charge is working strongly in this range), "insensitive" here means when you press and hold any things on the screen, it'll "tap" it and open it instead, all pressing or sliding or zooming actions are normal, just dragging has issue. When the battery is 70% and above, it becomes normal and no more insensitive touch. Just that so I think I can bear this thing.
I'm having problems with the touchscreen. Most of the time it's working alright but just like this, out of the blue, starts missing touches, swipes, etc.. sometimes this problem is very VERY noticeable and embarassing. I don't know if it's software or hardware related, but I fear this can't be solved. I'm thinking about selling the device before it starts loosing too much value.
See this video i made with my old 950XL to the brand new XZP:https://1drv.ms/v/s!Auxdy70nvM2ppaRjHTtgdbJRe56rzQ
Clearly a hardware issue with your phone. I recommend using your warranty and send it back where you bought it from so they can fix it.
i just think you use the point of your finger where it can't really "touch" with the smooth skin. when it does this try with your whole fingerprint and you will see. it's like touching it with nails. your problem is a no-problem and happens to all capacitive screens on all smartphones

Hi, I can guarantee you the problem happens even by using the fingertip (polpastrello) and not just with the nail. Infact, the display itself its quite sensitive and works without problems even with the nail.
What I've shown in the video is I think the worst episode that happened. Most of the time the screen works without issues.. but maybe once I start typing in WhatsApp or inserting a new address in chrome the stock keyboard (which is swiftkey) misses a touch or two and it's very annoying making it impossible to write long sentences.
There's a similar discussion going on sony's forum: https://talk.sonymobile.com/t5/Xperia-XZ-Premium/TOUCHSCREEN-wiered-problem/m-p/1236201#M2473

I find that if your finger is the slightest bit wet (hot sweaty) it will not work, but the moment I dry my finger it works. So it appears to be very sensitive to moisture. Not sure if this can be adjusted or not.
I have the same problem. Mostly around the right side of the keyboard while typing. The back space key area is a mess once in a while. I'm using Google keyboard if that makes any difference.

Well I also reset my phone, it did help a little, but still happens. The thing is if I do send this for warranty I know Sony will report back with nothing wrong. Maybe my thumbs just don't get along with this screen.
I seem to have a similar issue. It's not restricted to a particular area of the screen, I've activated the option of seeing where the touch is, sometimes it just skips a touch and does not show it. There are moments when it happens more often and moments when it doesn't happen for some time.
Seems most of the times to be related to changes in the touch pattern, like inverting scroll direction in a page or going from swipe to single touch.
I've tried to reset once clear cache a couple of times, but with no effect. When it happens while scrolling if I keep swiping the finger, sometimes it sees it intermittently, sometimes not but if I touch with another finger near that one, the touch of the second one is shown correctly.
I cannot quite figure out if it's more of a software of hardware related issue. Before this I used a meizu m2 note and I did not change the way I touch the screen, but never had this kind of issue.

Well I've changed firmware and that seems to have fixed the problem
I was using a O2 firmware version but got a UK generic one from flashtool and now no more touch screen issues, so far...

I changed firmware, and the issue seems gone.. weird...
