I'm having problems with the touchscreen. Most of the time it's working alright but just like this, out of the blue, starts missing touches, swipes, etc.. sometimes this problem is very VERY noticeable and embarassing. I don't know if it's software or hardware related, but I fear this can't be solved. I'm thinking about selling the device before it starts loosing too much value.
See this video i made with my old 950XL to the brand new XZP:https://1drv.ms/v/s!Auxdy70nvM2ppaRjHTtgdbJRe56rzQ
Clearly a hardware issue with your phone. I recommend using your warranty and send it back where you bought it from so they can fix it.
i just think you use the point of your finger where it can't really "touch" with the smooth skin. when it does this try with your whole fingerprint and you will see. it's like touching it with nails. your problem is a no-problem and happens to all capacitive screens on all smartphones

Hi, I can guarantee you the problem happens even by using the fingertip (polpastrello) and not just with the nail. Infact, the display itself its quite sensitive and works without problems even with the nail.
What I've shown in the video is I think the worst episode that happened. Most of the time the screen works without issues.. but maybe once I start typing in WhatsApp or inserting a new address in chrome the stock keyboard (which is swiftkey) misses a touch or two and it's very annoying making it impossible to write long sentences.
There's a similar discussion going on sony's forum: https://talk.sonymobile.com/t5/Xperia-XZ-Premium/TOUCHSCREEN-wiered-problem/m-p/1236201#M2473
I have the same problem, but with fingerprint sensor too(sometimes it does not detect fingerprint correctly) .

I find that if your finger is the slightest bit wet (hot sweaty) it will not work, but the moment I dry my finger it works. So it appears to be very sensitive to moisture. Not sure if this can be adjusted or not.
I have the same problem. Mostly around the right side of the keyboard while typing. The back space key area is a mess once in a while. I'm using Google keyboard if that makes any difference.

I have the same problem with you, especially the right side of the screen.
I am thinking maybe it is my screen protector are too thick or something
I will try to remove my screen protector to test the screen later
I have no screen protector. I don't have the problem anymore after a factory reset.

I reset my G8141 last night and still the issue persists. Seems to happen on mine during a gaming session, the phone gets a little warm and the screen looses its sensitivity Seems hardware to me - I doubt its software..
Well I also reset my phone, it did help a little, but still happens. The thing is if I do send this for warranty I know Sony will report back with nothing wrong. Maybe my thumbs just don't get along with this screen.
I seem to have a similar issue. It's not restricted to a particular area of the screen, I've activated the option of seeing where the touch is, sometimes it just skips a touch and does not show it. There are moments when it happens more often and moments when it doesn't happen for some time.
Seems most of the times to be related to changes in the touch pattern, like inverting scroll direction in a page or going from swipe to single touch.
I've tried to reset once clear cache a couple of times, but with no effect. When it happens while scrolling if I keep swiping the finger, sometimes it sees it intermittently, sometimes not but if I touch with another finger near that one, the touch of the second one is shown correctly.
I cannot quite figure out if it's more of a software of hardware related issue. Before this I used a meizu m2 note and I did not change the way I touch the screen, but never had this kind of issue.

Having problems with the touch screen on my sensation and this has now happened on my secound phone! both phones were ok out of box but after a few days first noticed problems from lockscreen as phone would not always unlock when draging app icon into circle then slowly geting worse until would take several swips on screen to even unlock! then started noticing similar problems in norm opperation? sometimes works ok but some times freezes up have tried factory reset and no differance. very strange having this problem on two phones?
Does the touch screen stop working completely?
Mine did that on Monday, had to get a replacement.
it seams to stutter once awake works slightly better? but still not responsive
I've noticed that the proximity sensor and gyroscope are being used aggressively to filter accidental screen presses.
For example, if I place my sensation flat on a table, the lock screen is very hard to unlock. If i place my other hand near the proximity sensor at the same time (or tilt the phone towards me) it unlocks easily. Until I identified this functionality I was beginning to think my right index finger was unsuitable for touch screens (since when placed on a table I tend to use my right hand, but otherwise use my left to unlock).
Hopefully this will be tweaked with future updates.

Many thanks I hope itd that simple?
I am having the exact same problem, for example on the lock screen I would swipe up but the ring will move slightly, and one icon I.e the camera icon will move towards the ring, another grip which is buggin me is that it will miss screen taps, I.e when texting or clicking an icon one tap will go unnoticed by the device resulting in either a missed letter, or the app not opening. This also goes for the 4 command buttons at the bottom, it happens on these too. I also get the occasional lock up.
Factory reset did not work

As I stated before, I experience this problem but it only occurs when the phone is laid flat and my hands are well away from the proximity sensor at the top left of the screen. I can say that the part you are describing with the lock screen is 100% the same problem I come across in certain situations.
Please test to see if the problem is still present when the phone is tilted in your hand and, if you are laying the phone flat when you experience the problem, try putting your other hand near the proximity sensor when you try to unlock.
If this happens as I describe then it is most likely a software bug which only affects users who have particular phone use habits.
Saying that, as you are having quite severe symptoms, during general use, it may be that you have a faulty proximity sensor in your phone - leading to missed screen taps when the phone thinks you are not touching the phone.
Well I laid the phone flat and unlocked it no less than 20 times, each worked flawlessly no problems at all..... Seems to have me baffled
Yes I've been having the same problem. First noticed it when trying to unlock it (phone was lying down), couldn't get the circle to move. Have had one complete touch-freeze. No input possible, however volume and power button worked. Took the battery out, restarted, and it worked fine.
I notice that input can be difficult sometimes, hit and miss or just have to push harder. Strange. Seems like a software issue to me.
edit: just had the same issue - circle wouldn't move. After picking the phone up I was able to unlock it, however still not as easy as it should be, a bit jerky.
Both my evo and my g2 had a grounding issue, for example if I had the phone laying down on the couch or bed, the screen would not respond to touch but if touch the phone with a finger and try to unlock it with my other hand it would work normally. So it seems to be a common problem with some HTC devices

The wildfire (my friend's got one) has this problem too. You have to keep touching the metallic housing for it to detect any taps.
You are correct, aim1126. I never considered grounding to be the cause but after re-testing it clearly is.
I guess it is a side effect of having a conductive unibody. So basically there will be no software fix, we just have to keep constant contact between our hands and the unibody. I wonder whether a rubber bumper would actually make this problem worse?
Edit:
Actually, the screen seems to adapt to not being grounded properly after a couple of presses. It works fine for me by the third time I touch the screen - weird. Well at least it is only a minor annoyance!

My wife uses a G2 and I wouldnt call it a grounding "issue" honestly seems like more of a feature to make sure you ment to engage the screen.. Its kinda cool IMO
As far as the screen being laggy this sucks since I wanted to upgrade from my Vibrant to the Sensation.. I also am not sure its a software issue you guys are having.. I am running Sense 3.0 with gingerbread on the G2 and it is very smooth.. The option to silence a call or tirning on speaker phone by turning the phone over is neeto torpedo..
I'm having the same issue, from lock screen I drag the circle up and it just stutters. After a few tries it usually works, once unlocked the touch screen appears to work fine. I'd expect the issue would continue after unlock if it was a hardware issue.

That's very bad. Flaky lock screen is not good, and the example of not being able to scroll through apps without it running one is a killer. There are many times when scrolling through a list of selectable items is necessary.

With the stock ROM, this is incredibly common. Mine, along with friends I know, device's did this not too long after we had them. I would say try flashing a custom rom. Another thing that would help is to disable the optical joystick under accessibility, when that gets too much light, the thing goes bat ****.
It's pretty common for our touchscreen driver to act up. This can usually be fixed by toggling the screen off and on again. And being capacitive, it can react if you have a finger right on the very edge of the screen, or a lot of moisture anywhere on it.
Also, the optical trackpad tends to freak out in bright sunlight. I turned mine off completely because it was so useless.

I had a very similar problem (thread here). If you wipe your screen on your pants/shirt or with a damp cloth/napkin/whatever, is the problem fixed for a short while (even just a minute or so)?
I found that oil or something on the screen causes it to go wonky for some reason. The solution for me was to order screen protectors. I guess they block the oil or whatever it is from contacting the touch surface. Whatever the problem is, a screen protector has fixed the problem for at least two of us, so it's probably worth a shot

My M8 is on stock ROM, rooted with Xposed and a handful of modules.
Half the time I'm in the Play Store viewing a list of my installed apps, my phone will somehow register a touch anywhere randomly on the display while I'm not touching the screen in any way. Initially I assumed it was a busted digitizer, but it ONLY does this while I'm in the Play Store, from what I've noticed at least. My phone does this while unplugged from any charger/cable.
Also, a lot of times while I'm using the phone while charging, the digitizer will freak the hell out while I'm touching it and register inputs all over the screen and very rapidly. I've seen this on other phones as well while using a crappy non-OEM charger, but this phone seems very much more sensitive to what charger you're using. Chargers that worked fine on my Note 2 and my wife's current GS4 make my M8's digitizer freak out. Has anyone else noticed this?
FYI, I can see these random inputs by enabling "show touches" in the developer options. I'll see touches register on the screen without me touching the phone at all in both of the scenarios above.

Are you using any sort of cases/screen protectors? If so try taking them off and seeing if the issue persists. Also wipe down the screen and get rid of any smudges and fingerprints and see if that fixes it as those can apparently sometimes cause this.
Lastly you can try doing a 'Factory Data Reset' from your recovery such as TWRP, I do not know if the stock recoveries have these but if they do and this is a software issue than this will solve your problem. (Requires S-OFF if it's not available in stock recovery)
If doing the factory data reset does not solve your problem than it is almost definitely a manufacturer defect.
Do take note I did my own research just now to bring you these answers and I am not capable of giving you an overly educated answer like someone else may. Good luck! & I hope the software/case solutions fix it.
Edit: Try disabling Xposed and see if the problem persists too.

Using a Supcase that doesn't touch the display and no screen protector. It does it without the case being on too.
I've recently did a full system wipe and tried a new ROM (Clean ROM) and it still does it, but only in the Play Store, which is why it's confusing me as to if it's a software or hardware issue. I've had HTC send me a replacement M8 out because of it and the new phone ( and previous 2 other phones I had hardware issue with) never did this, which makes me believe that it is indeed a hardware issue. It's just bizarre that it only happens in the Play Store.
When I flashed this new ROM though, it didn't do it initially during the setup of the phone and getting all my apps installed/updated. Once I installed Xposed, it did it, so I uninstalled Xposed to see if it continued and it did, so I'm not sure if it was a coincidence that I didn't have any "phantom touches" before installing Xposed or not.

Just want to bump this to see if anyone else is experiencing it and maybe fine a possible fix. I've replaced this phone 3 times now for different issues and would like to see if I can fix this without swapping it out again. It has gotten a tad worse now and the phantom touches have extended into Hangouts when I initially open it and start typing into a conversation, it will register taps on the keyboard and I have to delete the erroneous input immediately upon the keyboard opening. Otherwise, I don't see it anywhere else in any other apps or situations. Friggin weird. It has followed me across ROMs and factory resets. So I'm guessing it's just a weird-ass hardware issue.
I also facing this issue yesterday & getting worst today. I on ViperRom stock, no xposed or whatsoever.. just viper rom.. this phone just 2 months in my hand.... not only the phantom touches, but dead band as well...
did you send to service centre to get it fix or replacement?

Mine eventually resolved itself. I was only having Phantom touches on Google Apps. Mainly the playstore and Gmail.
Playstore updated and the issue went away, started using inbox instead of Gmail and it also went away. Haven't had a problem since.

Does anyone else have a problem with touchscreen sensitivity? Idk what it is about this phone. The lag wouldn't bother me if it weren't for this. It seems like whenever I scroll I'm accidentally clicking on and touching things I didn't mean to. Its the biggest problem I have, on stock and CM.

Yes, I do. I'm used to my LG G Stylo I guess (and all other phones I have had). When you touch the screen it always assumes you want to tap and does not give you a chance to slide your finger. I'd say at least 50% of the time when I want to slide it jumps to the conclusion I want to tap! So it takes twice as long to doing anything because I always have to go back and try to get it right the 2nd time. Does anyone know of a technique with this phone to execute a slide the 1st time? Thanks.

Yea that's a good way of a explaining it. That's exactly what my phone does, although I just realized the other day that my glass screen protector may be part of the issue so I took it off to see if it helps.

have no problem with this. (6045Y).
It is really bad on the YouTube app. You have to be very selective on the screen where you touch to start the slide or it will start video instead of scrolling the page. They really need a setting with for millisecond delay for it to wait for a "slide" before it assumes a "tap".
Is there anywhere where you can make update suggestions to Alcatel?
UPDATE: I asked about this and made suggestion for setting here: https://www.alcatelonetouch.us/contact
Here is the response I got back from Alcatel support:
"Thank you for contacting Alcatel. It is a pleasure being able to assist you, I see here that your devices response is moving and reacting faster than it should as if it had a mind of its own. Have you modified your operating system at all? The touch panel sensitivity is not an option or something that can be adjusted through the settings.
Let's begin with technical troubleshooting by clearing the cache partition:
Turn off the phone and while it is off press Vol(+) and the power button until it is completely on. You will get a screen showing a triangle and an exclamation mark, scroll down with the volume keys to wipe cache partition and select it with the power button of your phone. Next, you will see the process wiping, formatting, complete. Once complete reboot system now using same button.
I look forward to your response and hope this is the result for your device."
I don't know how this could possible fix the issue, but oddly enough my impression is that it appears to have corrected it. I will need to test it some more, but my main culprits where Facebook (via the Hermit app) and YouTube app. I also tried several other apps. So far, so good. You might give it a try. I does not delete data or apps - only deletes temporary system used files. Google "Android wipe cache partition" and read what it does for more info. Good luck.
I don't think it's the problem, but what I would call it as the issue of this device. In my usage I like it to be responsive to my touches, sometimes I accidentally press the screen when I wanted to slide as you mentioned, but it happens to me on other devices to. I would also give some credit for this manifestation to you screen protector. I'm using the mate protector and it gives nice touch feeling over the screen on a minor cost of screen clarity and purity.

I have always had LG phones prior to this and never had this issue and I had plastic screen protectors on them. I have a tempered glass protector on this one. On this phone, I have to start the slide in the air before I touch the screen so the slide is in effect as I land on the screen in order for it to record as a slide and not a tap. Furthermore, on the YouTube app I have to make sure where I land on the screen even then. If you land on the video or near it, it will play the video instead of scrolling up. So far since the cache wipe, I don't seem to be experiencing the problem. As I side note, I just got the phone new a week ago and this is my 1st cache wipe.
My U11 is having problems recognizing touches. The digitizer itself is fine when I check with testing apps or the developer options. However in normal everyday use, I find myself having to repeat actions quite often, maybe once every 20 touches. It's not really consistent... sometimes it's like the phone expects you to be REALLY precise when tapping a button or text label. In other cases light touches are not recognized until I try a 2nd time. And sometimes I try to open the navigation drawer by swiping from the left edge of the screen and again I have to try a second time.
The phone works perfect if I am really careful when using the screen, but in my previous HTC phones (M8, 10) using the screen was completely effortless so this is a bit odd.
Anyone experiencing something similar?
I've noticed the same thing. thought it was me. I get it sometimes moving icons around and other times. I'll keep track of when and how and report.
I may be able to test with a 2nd unit in a few days, I'll see if I get the same issues.
It does feel like a software calibration issue rather than a hardware one though. I have the "show taps" option enabled in dev tools now and the taps are definitely being registered, it's just that the actions are sometimes not triggered.
Same here. Sometimes have to tap 2 or 3 times.

The same problem here

I have the same problem; most prominent when my hands are too dry, and worst at navigation buttons under the screen. Maybe use the glove mode?
Just updating the thread to say that the phone is now working a lot better. I still get the odd tap that is not recognized but it's not nearly as common as it used to be, the phone is perfectly usable most of the time now.
Not sure what changed, I came from a M8 so maybe it was just a matter of getting used to the new size of the device (the way you type does change quite a bit with these larger screens), or maybe there were improvements in the software, I went from 1.03 to 1.13 a few days ago.
Same issue on 2 household U11
I just got the phone about 2 hours ago. I agree sometimes touches don't register. Very annoying.

Same here as well, thought I was losing my mind. Also I can be typing something and it will trigger the pull down notification tray up top, weird. But it's very inconsistent. I don't recall seeing this before the latest update.

Same for me, hopefully some update will fix it.
I don't think an update will fix this. The issue was so bad I asked for a replacement. Unfortunately, it will take over week to get a replacement. HTC Customer Service takes forever to respond, then shipping phone back, and then getting replacement.

Well I don't think a replacement will fix it either then.
My second unit has the same problem so I would say replacement is not a solution. I hope they can fix it by some SW update.
Same problem here. I just did a factory reset last night to fix a different issue though so I'll see if it's still happening.
Have also touch issues and will now repair this from HTC.

I was going to hard reset this morning as well but didn't feel like setting everything back up so I will deal with it for now. But if it fixes the problem then I will for sure. So let us know how it goes for you.

Maybe a little bit. Seems to be less frequent now but I still notice it every once in a while. Really weird/annoying.

Are you using a screen protector?
