[Q] Why does my phone keep rebooting into recovery? - Samsung Infuse 4G

my phone is rebooting into recovery every time after i install a ROM
I tested this with ZTR and My Own ROM and i followed all instructions to the rom in the OP

Did you follow your ROM op?
...maybe go back to stock, format, wipe all...start over?
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I717 using xda premium

I accidentally cut off installation on ZTR while it was installing during the Converting to ext4 phase

Probably a good time to use one of the unbrick packages with a pit file to get everything back to stock, or try going to mounts and storage in CWM recovery to format system, data, and cache - then try again.
Another easy option is to use Zen's Infuse Toolkit to install the failsafe UCLB3 before starting over. Lots of options, one if not all of these will work.

well I am not a genius...or even smart...but ya think this might have a lil something to do with it...idk :silly:

true...good call

I think i found the problem
The UCKJ4 package fixed the /datadata problem and flashing bootloaders helped since the thing kept rebooting into recovery

it is because you deleted the custom binary download
follow this steps to unbrick it
Make sure the drivers for the Infuse 4G are installed (If you’re not sure, get Samsung Keis HERE.)
Download and unzip GTG’s_Ultimate_Unbrick.zip
Run Odin3 v1.7.exe as administrator. (Right-Click and select Run As Administrator)
Place your phone into download mode (pull battery, replace battery, press and hold both volume buttons while plugging in the USB cable)
Make sure your phone shows up in Odin as COM##
Click the PIT button and choose infuse.pit (and make sure Re-Partition is checked)
Click the PDA button and choose PDA_UCKD5.tar.md5
Click the PHONE button and choose PHONE_UCKD5.tar.md5
Press Start
The phone screen will tell you to reset/reboot by holding both volume keys and pressing and holding the power key. Do this until the phone resets.
Once you see the carrier logo on the screen, disconnect the phone from the USB cable.
In the rare case that it finishes and your phone proceeds to boot loop, pull the battery, replace it, press and hold both volume keys and then press and hold the power key, keep holding all three buttons until 3e recovery comes up, select “delete all user data”, and finally select “reboot system now”.

[ODIN][UCKD5] Odin - Stock (100% or Root+3e) - (Update 06/05/11)

This will flash the stock kernel, modem, system, dbdata and cache. There's no need for a pit since we do not have any other OS versions to flash yet that would re-partition your device.
Instructions:
1) Make sure the drivers for the Infuse 4G are installed.
2) Please unzip the .zip file.
3) Run Odin3 v1.81.exe (as administrator if you are on Windows 7)
4) Place your phone into download mode (pull battery, press and hold both Volume keys, put battery in and plug the USB cable in)
5) Make sure your phone shows up in Odin as COM##
5) Click the PDA button and choose the .tar.md5 file in the .zip.
6) Press Start.
7) After it completes, it will reboot your device and should boot up like normal. If it fails on flash see FAQ Question 4 below!
There is ALWAYS risk when flashing your device. Unfortunately, I will not be held responsible. Please use this as a means to get back to stock if something happens.
* DO NOT FLASH PIT (PIT not included).
* DO NOT CHECK ANYTHING IN ODIN EXCEPT "AUTO-REBOOT" AND "F. RESET TIME" (should be checked by default)
FAQ:
Question 1: Why does it have .md5 at the end?
Answer: Its in md5 format so in case your download is corrupted, you dont brick your phone.
Question 2: Can I rename it to just .tar and flash?
Answer: DO NOT rename it from md5 format. If it says the md5 sum is invalid, then it will not flash. Just re-download again and try again.
Question 3: Why does it give an error if i try to open in in 7zip/WinRAR/WinZip?
Answer: It should! Windows doesn't recognize when an md5sum is written to the end of a file. Don't panic!
Question 4: It passed the md5sum check, but failed writing on factoryfs. What do I do?!?
Answer: This is exactly what happened to me. Don't panic. Follow these steps exactly:
* Hold the power button to turn off.
* Make sure Odin is still open.
* Plug the USB cable in and hold the volume keys down at the same time. You will be on the screen with a "Phone ! PC" screen.
* Press Start on Odin.
* Once it completes, it will boot up into recovery. Don't worry about wiping cache or user data. Just choose "Reboot Device".
This flash takes quite a long period of time due to the size of the files. I'd say it took me 5 - 10 minutes for the flash to complete. Be patient! Afterwards it booted up with recovery, and chose Reboot Now.

go into the thread from lost1 with the stock rom and find the pit.pit file in the "additional" download. try that with repartition selected.

Can you wipe all user data and wipe cache from recovery (power phone off via power button or battery pull, hold both volune keys down, then hold power down until samsung appears on the screen and let go of ONLY power)? That should get you to boot.
This happened to beatblaster when we tested. Then he did the data wipes in recovery and booted up fine.
cant get recovery at all. tried all above. pit doesnt work

TO get into recovery to wipe data and cache, unplug your phone from the USB cable then make sure the phone is powered off. While the device is powered off press and hold the 2 volume buttons then while holding those 2 volume buttons down press and hold the power button. That will get you into recovery. WHile in there, you can wipe user data and wipe cache. Give that a go.
understood. However, as I was able to successfuly get into recovery by that method before attempting the ODIN restore, It will not enter recovery after ODIN flashed the stock.

Whoa. The only thing I can recommend from here is to try to flash via ODIN again or take the brick back to the store and swap for new. Next time, I'd recommend not fixing anything unless it's broken

[Q] Infuse Bricked even after GTG method!

Hey guys so what happened was that I was trying to root my phone through Gingerbread and Odin (as my infuse is Rogers). But I forgot to put in a SD card so now my phone is stuck in reboot loop! I have tried everything you guys have mentioned online! I cleared the user data but no avail. I inserted a SD card, even put on the SGHI997 rom, inserted the folders voodoo and disable-lagfix and still didnt work. I tried unbricking it via GTG but instead my rogers is gone and now I have AT&T and still in a loop! HELP!
Did you look at this post to see if it helps.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1205381
yup i did. It was the GTG process i mentioned that i tired before. the bootlooping has stopped but know is stuck on the samsung screen :S i left at the screen for 30 mins now still nothing. i cant even enter recovery mode anymore
u can not get into download mode??
yeah i still can
Were you able Odin back to stock?
not really, these are the results of odin:
GTG odin process: stuck at samsung screen. Cannot enter recovery mode.
Gingerbread process: goes to clockwordmod recovery (red txt). I wipe sd, wipe data/factory reset, enters bootloop. However can enter recovery mode.
Rogers stock: goes to andriod recovery mode (blue txt). I wipe sd, wipe data/factory reset, enters bootloop. However can enter recovery mode.
so no phone does not go back normal functioning self

From recovery you should be able to get to download.
Try this link with the option to get root & 3e recovery.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1092021
It sounds like you do not have modified 3e installed so it will check for sig?
from there if you install packages 2X you can get to CWM and flash what you will.....
EDIT: Sorry, I see you are able to get to CWM
can you not put a new rom on the SD and flash it? Or start over again with a fresh stock in case there was a glitch in the first install?
I am in the same situation and have the same problem too, i"ve looked lots of post and tried different method,,
even GTG's method it still in boot loop!!!!T^T
can anyone help

Hey when you say rom is assume you mean pda kernal files that come with odin and such? Then those would be PDA_ROGERS_UXKG3.tar.md5, PDA_Infuse_Gingerbread.tar.md5, the files the come in GTG unbrick.
I have also did repartion, but it did nothing.
I you mean rom by the SGHI997 rom i tried that too
Edit: Okay so I have been searching online and discovered you need put the room onto the internal sd card. But i dont see how i can do that considering my phone goes to recovery mode straight away

I'd like to bring the UnBrickable mod to this platform which will allow us to flash bootloaders to UnBrickably modded devices.. and seriously mod the crap out of the firmware... If you decide to turn it in for repair, consider PMing me so I can do some reverse engineering on it and then you can turn it in for not being able to turn on
Your device likey requires a PIT flash just so you know.

In CWM (red) under "mounts and Storage, select "Mount USB". Of course you are connect to your computer when you do this and in windows an external drive should become available. Place the zip file on the root of that drive.
Once copied, disconnect from windows first then unmout in CWM. from here you can go directly to and install from zip.
Hope that makes sense.

hey i tired what you said. i did a few times nothing came. then on my 4th try the driver showed up on my computer but it said 'please insert drive.' i reset and tried again the drive didnt show up
Remove the sim card and try again. Also, you can always copy a rom to an sdcard and install that in your Infuse.
Cranky...
hey i tried what you said but same result. i cant put on rom on because they mass storage does not show on my pc :S after the odd time of resetting and entering recovery mode, it connects but it says 'insert drive'

yes try a pit flash with repartition selected, it might fix it. theses types of bricks have been rare on the infuse and many people dont have experience with them. the available pit is packaged with the att ultimate unbrick but you should probably use it with the rogers odin firmware.

Sorry it took so long. I'll try to get in touch with GTG to make sure that his unbrick threads are more clear as to which device they are appropriate for.
UCKD5/E3 unbricks will only work on AT&T Infuses
UXKG3 will only work on Rogers Infuses
Custom Gingerbread ROMs will work on both, but there are no Odin-flashable packages for these.

Recover a soft bricked I9003 Galaxy SL

This is for all those who have soft bricked their phone, if you are experiencing a bootloop or some other problem here is a detailed guide how to get your phone back to working condition. If your phone is not entering download mode or recovery mode and even if a USB jig is not possible or not working.... This is the guide for you-I do not know whether this will work in all situations but you could still try it if you have no other alternative. The Galaxy SL has a hard reset button between the camera lens and the speaker... DO AT YOUR OWN RISK!
1)Open the back over
2)Check between the Camera Lens and the speaker
3) There is a hard reset button which is a small cavity
4) You will need two people for this.. Keep that cavity pressed with a pin
5) Keeping it pressed use the download mode combo- Volume down + Home + Power pressed.
6)Wait and try it a couple of times and your phone will enter download mode
7)Flash to a stock firmware
Also thanks to sakindia123 for giving me a suggestion of making a thread on this ...

All trials failed
Hello,
after i've updated my Galaxy S GT-I9003 with an official Rom JPKPE Gingerbread 2.3.6, and after rebooting, it stucked at bootloop, i've tried everything suggested on web and forums, and lastly your solution, with no benefit.
the problem i noticed that when i press on wipe data/factory reset in recovery mode it tells me :
-- Wiping data...
Formatting /data...
Formatting /dbdata...
E:format_volume: rfs format failed on /dev/block/stl10
Formatting /cache...
Data wipe complete.
so, is the corruption of the format volume rfs that causes the issue of bootloop
and is this a soft brick of the phone, or hard brick, could it be solved or the phone is dead?
i tried rooting it with CF-Root and bagaria.
if i converted the format to ext4, will that solve the issue.
if so, what are the steps to do that and from where can i get the software that i'll convert by
Note: i've started updating with the XXKPQ ROM putting the PIT file then i downloaded the JPKPE after i issued that problem of bootloop
another Question, is it right that i update with the PID file only knowing that i couldn't find any other files for phone and CSC for this version.
Hope any body could help me to get my phone to life again.
Thanks

Yea exactly what devilhell said. Its impossible to hardbrick your phone technically if you haven't flashed any bootloader on it.
Cheers

As long as your boot partition and recovery partition is not corrupted your phone is recoverable. If boot partition is corrupt your phone will not boot. So as long as your phone boots it is recoverable.

Hi there,
i have an I9003 and it is using froyo 2.2
i intended to upgrade until gingerbread and i have chosen the KPU (latest ROM). I use mobile ODIN to flash and the bootloop issue happens.
So, to recover back, i came to here with hope to recover my I9003.
the steps i did was:
1. Download and run odin 1.8.5.
2. Check Re-Partition, Auto Reboot and F. Reset Time.
3. Click PIT button and select this file: latona_20110114.pit
4. Click PDA button and select this file: I9003xxxxx-KP7...-.tar.md5 (single file FW)
5. Put your phone into download mode: Press Volume down + OK + Power.
6. Connect USB cable and the program will detect the phone's Com number.
7. Click Start button to download the PIT file to phone.
8. After it is Done Click on Reset button, then unselect Re-Partition box.
9. Click Start button to flash the files to phone.
10. Everything pass except there is 1 failure.
Now my I9003 can boot up, however with bootloop issue. What should i do now?

i9003 dead
I had my phone i9003 flashed to a i9000 stock rom by a total mistake.
I had both pit files on my PC so I mixed up by a mistake.
Now my device is completely dead and nothing works out. Not even charging, completely unusable now.
Hardware reset, JIG's and combination keys, ODIN setups..nothing takes me to download mode.
Phone is still under warranty so afraid to JTAG.
Do you all think my phone is recoverable? Will the samsung warranty tech's will find out about the issue and won't the claim?
Please help. tried everything and now clueless.

[Q] Stuck trying to CwM install Black test 1.6 rc1.zip ?

Was stock KJ6, rooted w/DooMLoRD_v3.
Didn't have "CwM Recovery" so used sgs-kernel-flasher-v1.6.2.apk and got on sms-T959V-KJ6-v0.1.0-unsigned-update.zip
Then used CwM to flash VahallaBlack.zip and I bricked.
Got back with Odin3 v1.7(stock+Voodoo-T959VKI3.tar)
Phone info shows my kernel still sms-T959V-KJ6-v0.1.0 after the factory/data reset.
Where to from here-I just get (E: can't install vahallablack.zip -bad)
I want to use CwM - I want to install the new Vahalla Black.
Download the KJ6 version from here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1358498
Then you'll have a stock rom with CWM, you should also try redownloading the valhalla zip file in case it was a bad download.
Oh no. It was up on that KJ6-beta2d and I did the following instructions on first boot-
But I suggest if you are using CWM to back up your sdcard and do a battery pull after you see the boot animation. Boot into recovery and repartition your sdcard to have >=2048M of ext2.
This will make sure you have no problems converting to ext4 from rfs and visa-versa.
It will not go back into recovery now. Only screen coming up is icons of "phone..triangle..computer" and will not connect via USB.
Guess I'm stuck again.........help.
If your in download mode then use this to flash stock KJ6 onto it.

Yes, but now windows 7 doesn't recognise phone and drivers will not connect Odin and/or Heimdall
Download heimdall from here https://github.com/downloads/Benjamin-Dobell/Heimdall/heimdall-suite-1.3.1-win32.zip
Go into the drivers folder
Run 'Zadig'
Click on options then list all usb devices
Drop the bar down and click "Samsung Usb Composite Device"
And then select 'Install driver'
After rebooting and trying again it connected but failed at installing factory FS. Now just stuck at that spot with no way out.....
I will try new driver you suggest.
Bib question- will 32 bit work? I'm 64 bit?
Heimdall One Click should then recognize your phone.
Nope, it shows up as an unknown device
It was recognising it before the factoryFS error caused me to disconnect during download mode (2)twice.
Do a battery pull and give it one last try.
If it doesn't work then I don't know what to tell you.
OK thanks. Been pulling the battery alot.
Hey SUCCESSFUL! Trying again and again etc finally paid off -again.
CwM Voodo LAgfix Rec v3.0.3.8x
KJ6-beta2d (I hope)phone info now
showing Kernel v:2.6.35.7-T959VUVKJ6-CL694130
Do I need verify this ?
Now on to my goal. Anything special I need from this point before I flash VahallaBlack ROM? Don't need to name it update.zip .....
black test 1.6 rc1.zip
Glad I can help all you need to do now is simply clear cache and dalvik cache and flash.

If you made it to the fail before you unplugged it your still ok. Next time Get into download mode by
1 pulling your battery
2 hold Vol up Vol down at the same time
3 plug in USB to computer and phone
4 re insert Battery and continue to hold the Vol buttons until your phone does something.
At this point if your phone does anything you are most likely in download mode and can recover. Just keep trying.
Edit: see you got it fixed persistence is sometimes key

Unknown path error is no big deal. If it can't open the zip you probably have a bad download. Go download it again.

In the meantime I'm planning on flashing VahallaFinal

Please insert the last disk of the multi-volume set and click ok to continue.

That sucks. If your downloading it directly to your device try downloading it from a computer then transferring it to your sd card. Or vice versa. let me know how it goes

[Q] Recovery Boot Loop Problem

Had a problem. Hope someone with experience can give me a few answers.
Nave new t-mobile Note 3, SM-N900T. Stock 4.4.2 KitKat Touchwiz rooted.
Rooted to enable SDFix to use SD card as I want to use it.
Everything great! No problems.
Thought it would be wise to have a Nanoid backup.
Opened Rom Manager and made One change in prefrences. I set it for external SD card storage. (mistake?)
Went to 'Backup current Rom' in Rom manager, started it and it started to reboot. Shut down and restarted in a 'Recovery' boot loop??
No matter what I did, Tried holding power, up volume and home button, nothing. Boot loop continued. Removed battery, waited, as soon as I re-installed battery it instantly went back into recovery boot loop.
I don't know what I did, I kept removing battery and trying again and again and all of a sudden, it booted up back to KitKat and now everything is working great again. No problem on any standard reboot.
What happened? I have used this same set up on my S3 and never had a problem.
I would like to backup the current setup for any future problems. But now, I'm afraid to even try.
I removed Rom Manager and re-installed. Made sure that the storage location was reset to internal and it should be OK??
What did I do when I got out of the Recovery boot loop??
So, afraid to try again. Don't want the boot loop again.

Hi. What recovery are you using?
If you haven't installed a custom recovery, then that explains your issue. Basically, the app scheduled a custom recovery script which kept failing in the stock recovery. You should normally be able to reboot into the system holding the power button, thus skipping going to recovery. This also resets the recovery script so everything is back to normal.
Nandroid is normally only possible using a custom recovery like TWRP or CWM.
I saw that you might be able to perform a Nandroid without restarting the phone (so without a custom recovery) using this app: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.h3r3t1c.onnandbup&hl=en
I have never tried it. Looks promising though.
But please note that you won't be able to restore the backup without a custom recovery.
EDIT: If you do have a custom recovery, why not boot in recovery mode and make the backup from there?
Cheers
Recovery Boot Loop Problem
I have CWM installed. Setup thru Rom Manager as I have done before on other phones.
Tried it again, same thing. Over and over. Constant reboot. Dosen't matter if I hold the power button or try different ways, same thing.
It says: Recovery booting
Recovery is not seandroid enforcing
Set warranty bit:recovery
If I remove battery and wait a couple of minutes, I can install battery and it dosen't start till I hold power button.
So I held volume down, home button and power button and booted into download mode. From there I cancelled and it rebooted normally.
Everything I've read on boot loops always say 'boot into recovery'. I only wish I could. That's the bootloop.
Any idea on what's wrong?
Thank you for your time and trouble.

Have you tried booting directly into recovery?
So just shut off your phone and then open it by holding volume up + home + power. It should boot into recovery. If it doesn't, I recommend installing cwm or TWRP using Odin instead of Rom manager.
Might be a problem with your current recovery.

Yes, I tried. Does the same thing.
I've never used Odin. All the info I've read mentioned downloading USB drivers and using different .tar files. Checking this and that.
Nothing I've ever done.
No experience with it.
Never had a reason before to use it.
Every instruction website I've read all seem to be different.
I'm gonna have to find out, huh? lol
I've got Odin on my computer, and have the CWM 6 zipped file.
Will do some research.
Thanks

No problem.
A few tips with odin:
-If you have Kies installed, you don't need to install other drivers.
-The file you flash with Odin should have tar or tar.md5 extension
-you have to activate USB debugging from developer options.
-boot your phone into download mode
-run Odin as administrator
-connect your phone. you should see the text Added in Odin. If don't see it, you need drivers.
-you should make sure only auto reboot and f. Reset time are checked
-you should put the file in Pda or Ap(if using latest version)
Click start and wait until it finishes. It will restart itself if you checked auto reboot.
That's about it. It's very safe and easy to use.
Watch some videos on YouTube. You will definitely find some.
Cheers

Update: The install of CWM with Odin seemed to be successful. Still have same problem.
I believe the problem must be somewhere else.
Something is stopping the recovery boot. More research ahead.
When I find out more, will post here and give update.

Strange. You could try TWRP instead of CWM. I use TWRP and really like it:
Here is the download link for your device: http://www.techerrata.com/file/twrp2/hltetmo/openrecovery-twrp-2.7.2.0-hltetmo-4.4.img.tar
This is the Odin flashable recovery.
Here is TWRP page: http://teamw.in/project/twrp2/
EDIT: One more thing. Are these the exact steps you are following when booting into recovery?
"To access recovery mode on your Note 3, turn off the device and press Volume Up+Home+Power buttons at the same time for about 4-6 seconds. When the screen lights up and you see the Samsung logo, release the Power button but keep Volume Up+Home keys pressed until you see the recovery menu screen"

Yes, if I use the buttons, the download mode comes up saying 'Boot failed'. That's holding the vol. button 'up'. If I hold vol. down, it loads download mode correctly.
If I try to enter recovery thru Rom Manager, Recovery tries to start and the boot loop starts. ??
I may try TWRP. I've heard a lot about it.
Thanks for the links.
