Recover a soft bricked I9003 Galaxy SL - Samsung Galaxy SL i9003

This is for all those who have soft bricked their phone, if you are experiencing a bootloop or some other problem here is a detailed guide how to get your phone back to working condition. If your phone is not entering download mode or recovery mode and even if a USB jig is not possible or not working.... This is the guide for you-I do not know whether this will work in all situations but you could still try it if you have no other alternative. The Galaxy SL has a hard reset button between the camera lens and the speaker... DO AT YOUR OWN RISK!
1)Open the back over
2)Check between the Camera Lens and the speaker
3) There is a hard reset button which is a small cavity
4) You will need two people for this.. Keep that cavity pressed with a pin
5) Keeping it pressed use the download mode combo- Volume down + Home + Power pressed.
6)Wait and try it a couple of times and your phone will enter download mode
7)Flash to a stock firmware
Also thanks to sakindia123 for giving me a suggestion of making a thread on this ...

All trials failed
Hello,
after i've updated my Galaxy S GT-I9003 with an official Rom JPKPE Gingerbread 2.3.6, and after rebooting, it stucked at bootloop, i've tried everything suggested on web and forums, and lastly your solution, with no benefit.
the problem i noticed that when i press on wipe data/factory reset in recovery mode it tells me :
-- Wiping data...
Formatting /data...
Formatting /dbdata...
E:format_volume: rfs format failed on /dev/block/stl10
Formatting /cache...
Data wipe complete.
so, is the corruption of the format volume rfs that causes the issue of bootloop
and is this a soft brick of the phone, or hard brick, could it be solved or the phone is dead?
i tried rooting it with CF-Root and bagaria.
if i converted the format to ext4, will that solve the issue.
if so, what are the steps to do that and from where can i get the software that i'll convert by
Note: i've started updating with the XXKPQ ROM putting the PIT file then i downloaded the JPKPE after i issued that problem of bootloop
another Question, is it right that i update with the PID file only knowing that i couldn't find any other files for phone and CSC for this version.
Hope any body could help me to get my phone to life again.
Thanks

Yea exactly what devilhell said. Its impossible to hardbrick your phone technically if you haven't flashed any bootloader on it.
Cheers

As long as your boot partition and recovery partition is not corrupted your phone is recoverable. If boot partition is corrupt your phone will not boot. So as long as your phone boots it is recoverable.

Hi there,
i have an I9003 and it is using froyo 2.2
i intended to upgrade until gingerbread and i have chosen the KPU (latest ROM). I use mobile ODIN to flash and the bootloop issue happens.
So, to recover back, i came to here with hope to recover my I9003.
the steps i did was:
1. Download and run odin 1.8.5.
2. Check Re-Partition, Auto Reboot and F. Reset Time.
3. Click PIT button and select this file: latona_20110114.pit
4. Click PDA button and select this file: I9003xxxxx-KP7...-.tar.md5 (single file FW)
5. Put your phone into download mode: Press Volume down + OK + Power.
6. Connect USB cable and the program will detect the phone's Com number.
7. Click Start button to download the PIT file to phone.
8. After it is Done Click on Reset button, then unselect Re-Partition box.
9. Click Start button to flash the files to phone.
10. Everything pass except there is 1 failure.
Now my I9003 can boot up, however with bootloop issue. What should i do now?

i9003 dead
I had my phone i9003 flashed to a i9000 stock rom by a total mistake.
I had both pit files on my PC so I mixed up by a mistake.
Now my device is completely dead and nothing works out. Not even charging, completely unusable now.
Hardware reset, JIG's and combination keys, ODIN setups..nothing takes me to download mode.
Phone is still under warranty so afraid to JTAG.
Do you all think my phone is recoverable? Will the samsung warranty tech's will find out about the issue and won't the claim?
Please help. tried everything and now clueless.

[ODIN][UCKD5] Odin - Stock (100% or Root+3e) - (Update 06/05/11)

This will flash the stock kernel, modem, system, dbdata and cache. There's no need for a pit since we do not have any other OS versions to flash yet that would re-partition your device.
Instructions:
1) Make sure the drivers for the Infuse 4G are installed.
2) Please unzip the .zip file.
3) Run Odin3 v1.81.exe (as administrator if you are on Windows 7)
4) Place your phone into download mode (pull battery, press and hold both Volume keys, put battery in and plug the USB cable in)
5) Make sure your phone shows up in Odin as COM##
5) Click the PDA button and choose the .tar.md5 file in the .zip.
6) Press Start.
7) After it completes, it will reboot your device and should boot up like normal. If it fails on flash see FAQ Question 4 below!
There is ALWAYS risk when flashing your device. Unfortunately, I will not be held responsible. Please use this as a means to get back to stock if something happens.
* DO NOT FLASH PIT (PIT not included).
* DO NOT CHECK ANYTHING IN ODIN EXCEPT "AUTO-REBOOT" AND "F. RESET TIME" (should be checked by default)
FAQ:
Question 1: Why does it have .md5 at the end?
Answer: Its in md5 format so in case your download is corrupted, you dont brick your phone.
Question 2: Can I rename it to just .tar and flash?
Answer: DO NOT rename it from md5 format. If it says the md5 sum is invalid, then it will not flash. Just re-download again and try again.
Question 3: Why does it give an error if i try to open in in 7zip/WinRAR/WinZip?
Answer: It should! Windows doesn't recognize when an md5sum is written to the end of a file. Don't panic!
Question 4: It passed the md5sum check, but failed writing on factoryfs. What do I do?!?
Answer: This is exactly what happened to me. Don't panic. Follow these steps exactly:
* Hold the power button to turn off.
* Make sure Odin is still open.
* Plug the USB cable in and hold the volume keys down at the same time. You will be on the screen with a "Phone ! PC" screen.
* Press Start on Odin.
* Once it completes, it will boot up into recovery. Don't worry about wiping cache or user data. Just choose "Reboot Device".
This flash takes quite a long period of time due to the size of the files. I'd say it took me 5 - 10 minutes for the flash to complete. Be patient! Afterwards it booted up with recovery, and chose Reboot Now.

Can you wipe all user data and wipe cache from recovery (power phone off via power button or battery pull, hold both volune keys down, then hold power down until samsung appears on the screen and let go of ONLY power)? That should get you to boot.
This happened to beatblaster when we tested. Then he did the data wipes in recovery and booted up fine.

TO get into recovery to wipe data and cache, unplug your phone from the USB cable then make sure the phone is powered off. While the device is powered off press and hold the 2 volume buttons then while holding those 2 volume buttons down press and hold the power button. That will get you into recovery. WHile in there, you can wipe user data and wipe cache. Give that a go.
understood. However, as I was able to successfuly get into recovery by that method before attempting the ODIN restore, It will not enter recovery after ODIN flashed the stock.

Whoa. The only thing I can recommend from here is to try to flash via ODIN again or take the brick back to the store and swap for new. Next time, I'd recommend not fixing anything unless it's broken

Sounds like a soft brick to me. If you have Cwm, when the phone boots up.poured the appropriate button to get into recovery mode before the boot animation. For example, I have to press power button plus down key at the sane time upon booting up my ATRIX 4G. From there you can flash act room possible and solve the soft boot problem.
Bear in mind that these methods are for my phone. You have to do done research to see how it works on your device. Don't worry though....soft bricks are "curable".

try this step.
Turn off your Samsung Galaxy Fit
Remove your SIM Card and SD Card, just to avoid any issues
Extract the previously downloaded firmware packaged.
Run ODIN 4.38.exe on your PC
Click the OPS button then select BENI_v1.0.ops from extracted archive and load it.
Set the Samsung Galaxy Fit into DOWNLOAD MODE (When the screen is turned on Press and Hold POWER+VOLUME DOWN+OK Button simultaneously) Then Connect the device via USB into PC.
If ODIN detected and recognized the device the COMORT mapping at the left side will change to color yellow.
If all is set and ready: Press "Start" button and wait...
It will then start to Download, the flashing process may takes around ~5 minutes.
If all goes well and successful your phone should reboot automatically
A square on the left will display a "PASS" word it means that the flashing process was successful.
Once all completed, disconnect the phone. Turn off your phone, insert back your SIM Card and SD Card again.
Turn on your phone. Then confirm the new downloaded firmware version by typing **#1234#.

try holding power and vol+ for at least 10 seconds, and keep holding it. or try power and volume down for 10+ seconds.

see if you can get an adb log, you could also try Samsung Kies (2.0) It may have trouble finding device/ installing drivers; you might want to connect it in download mode. There are emergency recovery options in Kies I think, but its probably same thing as Odin. Are you sure that is the correct firmware for your device? are you familiar with Odin? possible bad flash/disconnected?/bad cable?
i recommend try flashing whatever firmware you originally had. a full stock one with .pit file would be ideal.
try sammobile.com/firmwares

Try this instructions carefully. It works for any samsung phones:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=27043121&postcount=9
but in step 3, when it says if you weren't in GB, don't worry about it. What it is, if you change version of android (i.e. from Honeycomb to ICS and vice versa), than you need to include pitfile and repartition, as well as flashing dbdata.rfs.
Thanks buddy
I will try as u suggested
and will come back soon after flashing
thanks
still same problem please help
i tried flashing as u suggested and successfully compleated but still restarting only 1 thing improved that is now am able to switch off my tab
please guys help me dnt wanna loose my tab
and 1 more thing in odeen, where i can put dbdata file
please help
You can flash dbdata on pda field as well. Make sure you use the correct file. Before you proceed with it, can you go to recovery mode and do factory wipe? Let me know if you got any mounting error message or not after wipe.
Nore: if you need a pitfile, you can download this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/misc.php?do=showattachments&t=1441350
Any solution yet? My device suddenly acting the same way when I doing Factory Reset in cmw recovery. I've try doing reflashing via odin to xxkl7 and dxkl3 with no lock, im still stuck bootlooping on first splash screen.
Something I found is that if Im flashing the rom using heimdall, it always failed on flashing the cache, with a message saying that heimdall being crash. Any advice?
continue holding vol up and power through 2 reboots, you should get recovery mode.
My device also experiences similar symptoms when formating /data. Perhaps the file system is corrupt or mild superbrickbug.
Anyways what I usually do Is Odin back to stock, when it passes it hangs at boot, reboot to recovery and factory reset/ wipe data. Should boot now.
For /cache issue. try the first step I mentioned to get into recovery and wipe /cache, actually format it too, if you have CWM Recovery. Wipe dalvik and factory reset too. Then I would try Odin to stock. And again wipe /data if stock Odin doesnt boot.
good luck.

galaxy R bricked?

hey everyone.
ive been trying to get into cw mode for some time, but i couldnt make it anyhow. so i tried these steps http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1406880 but while flashing, odin said failed (sorry i didnt note down the failure message) and i unplugged the phone. maunally switched it on but now i get a message "firmware upgrade encountered an issue. please select recovery mode in kies & try again."
think my phone is bricked. i have an usb jig but i dunno how to use it and i cannot get into download mode. please help me, i know this may not be the right place to write, but you all know about 10 message treshold thing..
thanks
"firmware upgrade encountered an issue" message will come when something fail while flashing with ODIN, switch on in Download mode by pressing Vol Down + Home Button + Power button simultaneously and flash any stock firmware with ODIN everything will be fine.
yepp, tried http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1406541 steps and its ok now, i can even get into cwm.
but the problem is, when i select sth power off for example, nothing happens, all writings selections everything disappears and just a cwm logo remains. i am not able to have a back up or do anything else.
by the way, i'm using 2.3.4 turkish rom with wlxkga(i think) kernel. what happens if i flash a stock/custom rom 2.3.6 german? am i going to change language to turkish?

ok i can select it now
how about my second question?
why do i always getting failure message when i try to flash *.tar files? im sure im doing everything as directed?
AND PLEASE ANSWER if i can install titanium rom on my xxkg8 (or xwkga i dunno which is correct, both of them are displayed from phone)
u cannot flash .tar via CWM lol ONLY via Odin
About flashing titanium over xwkg8 it is recommended to install XWLA4, but If you don't want to flash XWLA4 via Odin you may just:
1)Wipe data /factory reset
2)Wipe Cache
3)Wipe Dalvik Cache (within advanced)
4)Format /system (within mounts and storage)
And then:
Install zip from sd card (choose titanium rom)
It shouldn't be any problems. But remember do it on your own risk !

i definetely understand "on my own risk" thing whenever i fail flashing im not very experienced but hey, why are you here huh?
last question: does every custom rom support every available language?
Duuude...of course not it depends on rom, some of them yes (AOSP based roms), but most of them (based on official firmwares that are created for regional markets)...unfortunately not
Since I do not own the device I cannot tell you about turkish language support on Titanium, but I'm almost sure it does.
As long as you can boot into Download Mode and revert stock it's not a irreversible problem (even when you fail flashing). Boot loop is in most cases not a reason to panic. You may start panic when you cannot turn your device on
ok thank you guys..

Big Problem ! [HELP] Failes to mount/data

Hey guys !
I'm hoping that you can help me resolve this issue.
I was flashing XXKPE with partition and after the flash process ended,on the screen appeared:
E:Failed to mount /data(No such file or directory)
-- Copying media files...
E:failed to mount /sdcard (file exists)
E:copy_cache_media:Can't mount /sdcard
your storage not prepared yet, please use UI menu for format and reboot action.
Meida files copy failed
# MANUAL MODE #
-- Applying Multi-CSC...
Applied the CSC-code 'KOR'.
Successfully applied multi-CSC.
And I can't do anything.
I tried flashing with pit, without pit, tried flashing another rom. No success.
Any idea what it could be?
Is the sdcard damaged? And if yes,how much does it cost to repair it.
Tnx !
If I'm not wrong(I can't really confirm), your internal SD is corrupt . what I would do is flash a kernel with cwm recovery, boot to recovery and under mounts and storage wipe system and everything except SD ext and the important ones so your phone won't get screwed(I forget the options, you could list them here and I can point them out). Then boot to download mode and flash from the start. If this doesn't work then idk what would

I installed BCK kernel. And formated everything but no succes. It's stuck at the GT-I9003 screen.
:crying:
U clashed a new ROM after wiping? Also, you could try mounting /data before wiping data.

First i will let it charge(I hope it's charging right now) . Then i will try again.
Do you think that if i send my phone to the Samsung Shop ( I still have warranty) Will they repair my device? It's a little over the hand for me to send it to SAmsung because I bought it from Germany and I'm from Romania. I have to ship it there to a friend to send it to the repair shop.

I'm not sure, maybe you can flash a stock ROM and say that kies screwed your phone up.

I'm now on froyo.
I'll send it to Germany and tell them that I tried to update and the phone crashed immediately after the installation was successful. And then I tried to revive the phone by installing froyo but no success.
Sounds like a good plan ! But the problem is that I don't know how much it's going to take them to return my SL. It could take them over a month. I'll be missing it
Tnx for your help buddy ! Hope things will work out fine in the end.:good:

The PIT file always create problem when installing a stock rom. U can install the XXKPE by:

STEPS:
1) Open ODIN. Connect ur phone in download mode. just flash Latona.PIT file with Re-Partition selected.
2) Once flashed, Ur phone will reboot automatically but will show only black screen with background light. Do not worry. Open the back cover, remove the battery, insert battery and boot again in download mode.
3) Close ODIN. Open it again. Now we will be installing XXKPE.
i) Select Latona.PIT File in ODIN. (Make sure the "Re-Partition" is unchecked once you have selected PIT file)
ii) Select "APBOOT_I9003XXKPE_CL409735_REV08_user_low_ship.tar.md5" in bootloader.
iii) Select "CODE_I9003XXKPE_CL409735_REV08_user_low_ship.tar.md5" in PDA.
