Do you all know that power + volume down takes a screen shot? - AT&T, Rogers HTC One X, Telstra One XL

Well you do now.
Just asking because I see screen shot in most of the power options in the ROMs for the HOX and I don't understand why. XD

No but seriously, it's built into stock as power volume down, you have to hold them.

What rom are you on? It's doesn't work for everyone I have only seen it work on cleanrom.

Pretty sure default has always been power+home. Power down doesn't do jack for me....well, it turns off my screen after my phone goes to vibrate.

Learn something new every day...
[POWER] + [HOME] on stock 1.85.

Power + down is the stock ICS way of doing it and it works...sorta. You have to get the timing right or else it'll just turn off your screen, bring your power menu up, or mess with your volume.
Power + Home is just so much easier though...

It worked for me on stock and still does on CleanROM 4.0
Hit them at the same time and hold them. Home is dumb for me I don't like the path it saves to.

Yup, power+home has been how HTC has done it for some time now, since before ICS.

Well geeze guys! Just sharing my discovery! XD
Also, I wish it'd get taken out of the power menu. Don't need 3 ways to take a screen shot.

Well I'll be damned. I don't think I could do the ics way while drinking though. simul button push while under the influence of scotch could prove troubling.

And nobody says there is anything wrong with that!
I was just pointing out the fact that HTC has included this feature since before Google decided to incorporate it in ICS.
Also, its interesting that HTC decided to include both their own method, and the Google way. HTC typically seems to prefer their own way of doing things, and removing the more "AOSP-ish" components.

Holding power and volume down at the same time is native to ICS and will save the screenshot to
/mnt/sdcard/pictures/screenshots
if I'm not mistaken. The One X can also take screenshots via home and power button. This will save the screenshot into a new folder DCIM or just drop them into /camera. I cant remember.

I hate the volume down+home, lol. When I hold the phone in my left hand and go to press home with my thumb it sometimes takes a screenshot.
On a random note, I feel like the HOX and a lot of other phones are easy to use one handed. I have slightly larger than average hands, but people should just put their pinky right under the home key on the edge if they need to. ANYWAY

No. Mines fine.
You're pushing it too hard.
Seriously, though, there's been a couple people that I've seen who report similar issues with either the power button or the volume rocker.
The part below the button that gives it spring/tension has probably shifted somewhat, causing it to "sink."
Aside from opening it/exchanging the phone, there's not much you can do.

Unlikely. You'll probably still be able to push it, though it may get harder to do over time.
I doubt that the actual button that's soldered onto the PCB is out, its just that the visible button that the user pushes, that actually pushes on the little button that's soldered onto the PCB, is out of alignment/lost tension.
If it concerns you then you should get take it back for a replacement. Or open the phone and inspect it yourself, but that will void your warranty, so...
Are there any ROMs that allow the volume rocker to wake the phone up?
My friend has a Thunderbolt and I saw that the ROM he uses allows for this.

CyanogenMod 7.1 or one of the recent nightly builds.
Edit: Or any ROMs based on a recent CM7 build (such as Ninja-07061).
You can download an app called no lock. But ur phone has to be rooted

Replace the battery cover, which is the entire back. It might be that the "button" isn't making contact properly.
Remove the entire back cover, and where the "button" should be, press down on it with your finger.
Do a battery pull and then try it.
I don't think it's anything to do with the phone, it was doing the same thing on mine. I had to pull the battery numerous times a day.
Until I flashed a rom with a stock kernel, and now it's fine again!

First off, what chris is trying to say is, that when in Recovery menu, you can use the capacitive buttons infront of the phone to move down and up and also select items in recovery menu. The search button can be used to select items that you would select with the power button.
Ugh..nightmares of the problems I had with my n1's

You can keep saying it, but it doesn't make it true.
Power + Home works for my T-Mobile (US), Power + Vol- does not.
Power + Vol - is an ICS feature. It does work on the One S, it just takes a bit of practice

I can do both on my One S. I didn't even know about Power + Home until it was mentioned in this thread. Just because you can't do it doesn't mean others can't and/or it's not a feature.
Yes, I have a TMO-US One S.
Hold Power then press the Home button.
Not to be that guy but this question has been asked a few times before, please search the forums first, also there is a Noob Q&A Thread for stuff like this. "Noob" not being derogatory.

Yes, I have that much free time since classes just ended for the summer.
Both methods work

Press power and volume - at the same time
Method 2:
Hold power while tapping the home key
Power and volume down hold them then let go.

Power Button Problem

Hello guys, I just want to know is there any way through which I can increase the sensitivity of the power button? My phone is now one year old and I've found that the power button is very annoying. If any new person happens to use my phone, he is to be taught to apply a bit more force to the power button to lock the phone.
Also, long press is difficult! It's very difficult to take screenshots (with CM ROM that has power button screen shot option).
When I long press to take a screenshot, after releasing the button, the phone sleeps and gets locked. It happens several times and to take one screenshot I have to face it almost five times. I think it is because of dust that gets collected below the plastic button, is there any suggestion from you that can make my finger's life easy??? :banghead:
Uhh, and do not suggest opening the phone body and clean it!!!
Sent from my LG-P500 using xda premium
And how does a topic come under 'favourites' section of the xda premium app??? Such a stupid question but I am really not finding a way out!!!
Sent from my LG-P500 using xda premium
Same problem. Isn't much you can do with the power button. It's mechanical so to fix the actual button you would have to open up the phone and fiddle in there. (don't try this if you don't know what you're doing)
I, for one, am using this mod. It works on the rom level, not the phone itself so it needs to be flashed every time you install a new rom (even when it's the same one but different version) and it won't work when the phone is completely shut down, you still have to use the power button.
Oh yeah! I knew that mod but forgot!
Well then, for now I use a screen locking widget... but still to unlock power button is required...
Will have to stay with it only.. :banghead:
