Help with terrible battery life - General Questions and Answers

Ever since I flashed this rom my battery life has been terrible. Do I need to recalibrate my battery or is just the normal battery life? I have a galaxy s 2.

Try cement : advanced : wipe battery stats

I'm having the same problem. I had illusion xT 1.8, it was somewhat slow so I decided to try ICS. I did a full wipe (wipe data, wipe cache, wipe dalvik, wipe battery stats) and loaded PureICS. As soon as I loaded the new rom my battery started draining at an alarming speed, if I didn't start charging I would lose 1% almost every minute idle (just connected to WiFi). I went to Batter under the Settings menu and I had Internet at 33% (the browser wasn't running), Google Services at 21% and Screen at 18%. Before, with illusion xT, the Screen was the biggest drainer.
I searched the ROM thread and some advised on using the Siyah kernel. Should I do that? What's the procedure? I saw that I can use Odin or CWM, which one should I use?
Should I try something else?
Thanks!

[Q]Battery Death?

Im running the latest MIUI. How come my battery is draining so fast? and Cell Standby is using all the battery power. Any tips?
When I was on miui was actually when I had the best battery life. Not sure what to tell you. Did you follow the install instructions in the miui thead?

The weird thing Is I had awesome battery till my friend used some "battery calibration" app.. Now its a no go for me.. what should I do?
I recommend you wipe and reflash the rom. Clear dalvik and bat stats.

Huge battery problem. This can't be right

Hi all thanks for taking a look.
Last night I installed a new rom and went to bed with around 75% battery. Woke up 9 hours later with 30% battery. The weird part is the majority was used up by android system..
-I'm running audiofile ftw new build 2.3.4
Ext4 on all partitions, no oc, and sas v7
Any thoughts?

After installing a new ROM you should recalibrate your battery. You can download Battery Calibration from the Market (That is what I use) our you can wipe your battery stats in CWM'S advanced settings.
Be aware that it takes a couple of days after calibration for the phone to adjust to the new battery stats.

That actually happened to me when I first installed the Valhalla rom. it's like an android service or process gets stuck and drains your battery.
I rebooted the phone and it was fine afterward. if that doesn't work, boot into cwm, cleared cache and dalvik, and fixed permissions, and then reboot. I now get 3-4 days out of one charge.
You should actually fully charge it after you flash a ROM, then calibrate your battery properly.

[Q] wiping battery stats

i heard that it was important to wipe my battery stats after i flash a new rom, and then fully drain to calibrate it , but this post says otherwise...
i also read that its better to flash roms on a full battery.
is any of this true?
, thanks
it's better if you full wipe battery stats... i did it with my xperia x8... and it still awake untill 2 days...
it is better to flash with a full battery so you don't power down due to low battery while flashing. The level of battery shouldn't matter - as long as the device completes the flash.
Hi, So I wipe the battery stats and I have always had good experience.
Load after uploading the new ROM, then Battery Calibration.!
Is important but not to much times.

It was debunked by a Google employee iirc. It doesn't do much more than erase the stats you see on the settings page.

[Q] Battery Drain on ARDH 6.3.0 [Q]

Just wanted to ask what are you guys experiencing in battery drain, like from your log "if you kept a log of your battery using currentwidget" i read another thread where the regular and normal battery drain should be around "3-10mA" per minute anything above it is abnormal battery drain. i got a regular 66-70mA per minute battery drain after logging it for 2 hours.
just wanna know if im the only one getting this
THANKS!
if you guys can and want to participate in checking your battery drain just do the ff.
download "Current widget" from the app market and log your battery.
and you can view it. i suggest when you log. go into sleep mode for atleast an hour without touching you phone.
post your results!
thanks!
I would suggest first to do a super wipe and do a fresh install of the ROM also wipe your battery stats in recovery second I would not use the widget I would just track your usage in settings then see

i did a clean boot of my rom yesterday. noting installed but my current widget. and after 2 hours i still got a reading of 54-60 mA per minute. but il try again later. but does using apps like battery calibration not work as well as just wiping the battery stat in recovery?
Wiping battery stats DOES NOT improve battery life.... http://www.xda-developers.com/android/google-engineer-debunks-myth-wiping-battery-stats-does-not-improve-battery-life/
P.S. I have the same problem, and a clean install doesn't help....

Android OS draining battery upto 72 %

You need to describe your device configuration. Phonetype, Firmware, ....
Time for a clean install.

Try Installing soju factory image from google. I did a clean install wiping dalvic chache as well and my battery is awsome since then and I never disable google now. See in the attached screenshot how flat battery consumption curve when I am not using it.

I did the samething after getting terrible battery life due to an AudioOut_2 wakelock that never let my phone idle, and the same thing still happens. I'm wondering if a hardware malfunction could cause screwy behavior like this.
Just do "proper clean install", it should help.
Agree with clean install. ROM and kernel choice have a lot to do with battery drain also.
Was this a one time thing or the norm for your phone? If a one time thing wouldn't worry too much but would still shop for ROMs and do a clean install.
I have started using Juice Defender and LUX and my battery life has increased exponentially its features should help any ROM kernel combo.

i had a problem with android os sucking the life out of my battery, all was ok for about a week after i installed jb but then my battery life sucked. rather than do a clean instal i turned off auto sync for a couple of days then switched it back on again, since then my battery life has been good and android os has hardly used up any battery. might be worth while trying this first
Yeah. Full wipe is a last resort. At least if you figure out what actually caused it, you can prevent it from happening. I remember my Nexus S had this weird bug where if I put the phone in air plan mode and didn't disable auto sync, the phone would never properly sleep. Never had that issue on any other phone.
Its sometimes ROM related....codename ROM I get high android is but not with androxide

You have network disabled... Off course it does not drain!
I cannot tell much about your device setup since not all the details were given, But even my Sprint Nexus S 4G had horrible battery issues. The stock gingerbread was a joke, then the stock ICS did improve to do a couple more hours. Now running an rooted JB and it seems to do 1day and 3 hours at this time.

One Power Guard can help the system into a deep sleep,Reduce battery drain
downloaded from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1889740
One Power Guard, an AMAZING product, saves energy for your Android device under the all circumstances. It greatly enhances device performance, improves battery, and powers up standby time and battery life by optimizing system kernel and cpu, avoid phone overheating, shutting down useless programs, preventing from energy-consuming apps, initiating deep-sleep mode, adjusting Wifi parameters, optimizing charging parameters and pacing up setting change , etc.
Google Now
Turning off Google now is what fixed the battery drain for me. Tried other things but only this worked.
