Got the gingerbread update yesterday and unplugged my fully charged phone and went to bed. In the morning, about seven hours of no phone use later, went to use it and battery said it was at just 25% and phone idle / android os had used 384% of battery and Tapatalk (which I used for just 1 minute before logging on here) used 43 %.
This is on stock gingerbread (European Open). Anyone found a way to sort this?
Dave
Drop the brightness to zero for overnight. See if that works.
Cheers.

I can try but its using battery at rate of about five percent every few minutes if actually use it so has to be plugged in. Maybe the update somehow screwed battery?

My solution for this momend disable gprs/3g data for extra long battery life.
Djee.
Done that though leaves me with a pretty redundant phone then
Fully charged calibrated battery with app off market and twenty eight minutes later down to thirty percent battery left. Its getting worse, I have a mobile phone thsts now no longer mobile and really hope someone has a solution as need my phone working properly. Bloody lg are not in my good books lol

Check so you don't have the Android OS bugg.
Check that your phone is able to go in to deep sleep. Two BIG drainers for me was beautiful widgets and WidgetLocker.
Toggle and weather drained alot to.
Google maps is a classic battery drainer.
Got rid of those and my battery last well throughout the day and night. Lovely
-----If it ain't working, try something else. ------
Got no widgets etc running. How do I put phone in sleep?
At moment with no widgets and no use my phone is still pretty much useless unless as now it's plugged in. I can't understand how no one else seems to have same issue as only started on fresh install of gb.
Maybe I will have to risk non stock rom but hope not.

WidgetLocker is a big battery drainer? thanks for the hint!
one really big battery drainer for me was the newest android market so i went back to an older version.. with the new market my battery drain was 10%/h and with an old market 5%/h..
i also deleted almost every ls system app except the weather widget
I think the update itself is bugged as it often tells me phone has been off battery for only seconds and says 285% of battery has been used.

On the latest V10k Froyo firmware my battery usage was pretty good. I flashed the new V21a GB firmware about a week ago and suddenly my usage went way up in idle. In about 10 hours I lost 30% or so. Worked with it for a couple of days and even when I used the phone the usage was a lot worse than with Froyo so I decided to do a factory reset. I backed up everything with Titanium, did the power+vol down trick and resetted the phone completely. Now my usage is even better than with V10k, I'm only losing 5% each night. My phone was fully charged about 40 hours ago and I still have 66% left. In those 40 hours I took some 3D photo's and viewed them in the 3D Gallery, checked my email twice, made 3 calls and sent and received 7 whatsapp messages.
The battery app is busted in this firmware, I think everyone on GB has the same problem. My wifi used 1148% yesterday and it told me I unplugged the phone 37 seconds ago while I was nowhere near a powersource for hours.
The problem is I have reset to factory settings and still have the problem.
I have calibrated the battery and also switched off phone to fully charge and am at a loss what to do but tomorrow I may resort to another reset. Thanks
EDIT : I have noticed that all apps I kill from settings menu warn they will restart immediately. Maybe that's a clue as to a cause?
Sent from my LG-P920 using Tapatalk
I'm having the same problem. Updated yesterday, battery was 100% last night, woke up and battery was down to less than 40%.
It is also running ghost apps, by that I mean that it's running apps I haven't opened or used. Everytime I go into running apps, there is at least 6 listed. It is eating up my ram, I'm at about 40mb at best, stop all apps and a few minutes later its the same thing.
Any ideas?
P.S: Hello BTW, I'm a noob but I've been floating around for a while now
I have managed to improve battery life so it lost zero percent overnight and about twenty percent playing a game for an hour.
I downloaded battery calibrate app from market and charged to full then ran the app, unplugged and used phone til it switched off. Left it off while charging and when switched on seems much better though still says I have been on battery for just seconds.
Am testing the battery life now but is much better so far. To stop ghost apps get gemini app manager from market and use it to stop them auto running. Some apps can only be stopped if you're a root user.

When I do the power+ vol down trick so that I can do a hard reset after the phone has wiped the data and cache I am presented with a menu of other options like wipe nv dynamic partition and wipe cache partition and package recovery. Do I need to select all these other options to fully reset the phone or is it dangerous to select some of them?

In my case I didn't need to select any other option. I just factory resetted, chose reboot in the menu and when the phone booted the standard "welcome to your phone" steps were presented. Then I set all the options I'm used to (my wifi connection, haptic feedback, sound off when typing, brightness about 60% and auto brightness turned off etc.) and then charged the phone to 100%.
I still haven't plugged in my phone since yesterday so it's been about 66 hours since it was fully charged and I still have 41% left. The usage is way more solid too. On Froyo an app could take 5% battery in 20 minutes and then drain the battery 20% in the next 10 minutes. That hasn't happened at all with GB. Too bad the battery stats are screwed.
I really love Gingerbread
@mistermentality: Good news you found a way to deal with your problem!! Let's hope you fixed it permanently.
U can start freezing all the apps with paid titanium backup. It really worth to buy.
I freezed all the com.lge.xxx
Exclude the com.lge.hiddenmenu. u wont be able to open settings if u do so.
And i freezed all the apps that i dont use. Ex : widgets, etc.
It improve my battery life 50%. Im not talking about hours, but in percentage its really double my battery life compare to fresh install official gb V21a.
Have a try and good luck

Well I can confirm that so far battery life seems much improved, as for backing up apps in paid titanium you can do the same in free gemini app manager. I tried and found it defaults to internal sd but emailed devs and they had fix ready within a day so it can save on optimus external card so its a good alternative to titanium

Try cement : advanced : wipe battery stats
I'm having the same problem. I had illusion xT 1.8, it was somewhat slow so I decided to try ICS. I did a full wipe (wipe data, wipe cache, wipe dalvik, wipe battery stats) and loaded PureICS. As soon as I loaded the new rom my battery started draining at an alarming speed, if I didn't start charging I would lose 1% almost every minute idle (just connected to WiFi). I went to Batter under the Settings menu and I had Internet at 33% (the browser wasn't running), Google Services at 21% and Screen at 18%. Before, with illusion xT, the Screen was the biggest drainer.
I searched the ROM thread and some advised on using the Siyah kernel. Should I do that? What's the procedure? I saw that I can use Odin or CWM, which one should I use?
Should I try something else?
Thanks!

I did the samething after getting terrible battery life due to an AudioOut_2 wakelock that never let my phone idle, and the same thing still happens. I'm wondering if a hardware malfunction could cause screwy behavior like this.
Just do "proper clean install", it should help.
Agree with clean install. ROM and kernel choice have a lot to do with battery drain also.
Was this a one time thing or the norm for your phone? If a one time thing wouldn't worry too much but would still shop for ROMs and do a clean install.
I have started using Juice Defender and LUX and my battery life has increased exponentially its features should help any ROM kernel combo.

i had a problem with android os sucking the life out of my battery, all was ok for about a week after i installed jb but then my battery life sucked. rather than do a clean instal i turned off auto sync for a couple of days then switched it back on again, since then my battery life has been good and android os has hardly used up any battery. might be worth while trying this first
Yeah. Full wipe is a last resort. At least if you figure out what actually caused it, you can prevent it from happening. I remember my Nexus S had this weird bug where if I put the phone in air plan mode and didn't disable auto sync, the phone would never properly sleep. Never had that issue on any other phone.
Its sometimes ROM related....codename ROM I get high android is but not with androxide

You have network disabled... Off course it does not drain!
I cannot tell much about your device setup since not all the details were given, But even my Sprint Nexus S 4G had horrible battery issues. The stock gingerbread was a joke, then the stock ICS did improve to do a couple more hours. Now running an rooted JB and it seems to do 1day and 3 hours at this time.

One Power Guard can help the system into a deep sleep,Reduce battery drain
downloaded from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1889740
One Power Guard, an AMAZING product, saves energy for your Android device under the all circumstances. It greatly enhances device performance, improves battery, and powers up standby time and battery life by optimizing system kernel and cpu, avoid phone overheating, shutting down useless programs, preventing from energy-consuming apps, initiating deep-sleep mode, adjusting Wifi parameters, optimizing charging parameters and pacing up setting change , etc.
Google Now
Turning off Google now is what fixed the battery drain for me. Tried other things but only this worked.
I'm having issues of the phone rebooting by itself and consequently draining ~90% of the battery when it does so. I've tried flashing a bunch of different ROMS to see if I can stop it from happening, but to no avail. I'd like to go completely from scratch and hopefully I can get to a point where the phone works for an entire day without crashing. I've been using the HD2 instead of the SGS4G for a couple months now, so I'm a bit rusty, which is why I came here to ask for suggestions. This is what I was planning on doing:
- Flash one of these stock ROMs in order to get back to where I started.
- Format my SD card completely and let the phone convert it back to EXT4
- And then flash either Barebone or Valhalla
Do you guys think this would be sufficient enough to remove the problem that's causing these reboot & battery drains?
I would flash eollies kj6 with the blastoff v2 if your not planning on going to ics after because that's the latest gb kernel available and then flash Valhalla or barebones (then you might have to flash blastoff again can't remember right now but it should say in the op of each rom). And I'm pretty sure when you one click back to gb that will convert back ext4 so I would format SD card and reload it before you one click back. Good luck friend

Thanks for your input! Do you think the gremlin remover is necessary, or is it overkill in the context of what I'm doing?
If you want quick and easy use my one click the other two listed is just kernels.
As for getting battery life on ICS flavored roms, well take the time using BBS and STT to figure out whats killing your battery. As long as Im not jumping between wifi and mobile data I can go around 15 hours on a battery. And I havent spent tons of time to figure out why Im not getting more battery life. But others like jeffsf has. And with that I can honestly say if your not getting battery life comparable to GB roms its YOUR fault not the rom. Most ICS roms have stuff built in that you have to use a app for. Therefore a GB rom with nothing installed will get better battery life. But once you put your stuff on and start running the battery life is not being compared properly. The reason for this is most people will keep a app just because they are use to it and not even know the ICS rom has it built in.
I personally think most of our batteries - if still using the one that came with the phone - are starting to run their course. New batteries are inexpensive on Amazon.
I think you guys are misunderstanding my issue. My problem isn't the battery draining quickly over a certain amount of time due to regular use. My problem is that once my phone crashes and reboots, the battery will literally go from whatever percentage I was at, all the way down to below 10%. I can be at 90% battery, and if my phone crashes, it will be on low battery once it powers back up. I'm not sure what's causing the crashes, which is why I'm just trying to start at step 1 and work my way from there.
To test if it was the battery simply draining out very quickly, I turned brightness to 100% and turned WiFi & GPS on, and disallowed the screen from turning off. The battery drained normally.
That happens to me... It gets fixed by shutting down and taking out the battery for 30 seconds.
Sounds like a bad battery
i had the same issue and also would get diff battery levels when booting with or without charger plugged in...i used a toool from market to calibrate battery. i cant remember exact app but will post back if i find it.
edit:
it was "Battery Calibration"
by NéMa
and i had to do it a couple of times to get it to set in.
Like thecontroller stated its a bug and you should be able to correct it by pulling the battery out and waiting a few extra seconds. If it does it still hold the power button down for a little while with the battery out.
Do this next time you have a crash on ics. Time how long it takes for the phone to restart. It is seems abnormally long you could have some scripts that are running on boot that is causing issues.
Calibrating the battery can be done manually. All you have to do is delete the batterystat.bin file. That is all those apps do. And really If you fully charge your battery it should be deleting itself.

In a nutshell, yes. You are only putting extra stress on your battery by "tricking" it according to various calibration guides. Batterystats.bin file is generated for a reason. Batterystats.bin is in /data partition, so after you install a new ROM that wipes your previous data, it gets wiped too. So, "Wipe battery stats after installing a new ROM", which is a cliche among those guides, is pointless. Last but not least, batterystats file is simply a logging tool that monitors your battery behavior. The "stats" part is pretty self-explanatory. The actual Power Manager lies in kernel, not in /data partition which accessible to anyone.
SBD all that info is true. But if you use the aroma installer it will backup and restore the data partition. Not sure if it will restore the batterystat.bin file or not. That is why I posted what I did. I do not believe in calibrating batteries as much as making sure they file is not storing data that is out of date.
As you guys mentioned earlier ...hard resets are the best ....I find our batteries do go bad. And when they do....they do all kinds of odd things to the device

Battery calibrations are garbage. They do nothing. The file that any battery calibration app deletes is deleted by Android anytime you do a full charge anyway.

Okay, so I formatted my SD card, and flashed Eollie's KJ6 using Heimdall. After that, I flashed Raver's Valhalla Black.
Initially, I didn't install anything extra other than updating gmail and superuser. Everything worked fine, apart from one random reboot. Once it booted back up, everything was normal. Today, I installed around 5 apps. I was using one of those apps (Reddit Is Fun), and while using it, the phone crashed. Once my phone booted back up this time, everything force closed, and log provider force closed over and over. I had someone text me, and right after they did my phone just crashed. I tried fixing permissions, but that didn't do anything.
Any suggestions?
--edit--
I just factory reset and tried reflashing Valhalla Black, but everything just force closes again even on a fresh install.
Boy I don't know what the hell you're doing but you are doing something very wrong.

Just so weird, I don't see how a battery can affect the OS in that way haha. I've ordered a new battery anyway, they're only like $5 on Amazon, but I'm gonna try your steps anyway, controller. Thanks a lot guys.
Was casually browsing the internet on my phone, and my battery was yellow (around 18% I believe) and it randomly crashed. I plugged it in and it's now charging. I did notice that it stayed on 22% for a while. Probably a lot longer than it should have. My phone is rooted, so I'd rather not factory reset or anything like that. This is the first time I've had this issue.
It's a fairly common bug, I don't think anyone really knows what causes it or how to fix it. Weird though because it hasn't happened to me... yet.

Don't waste your time with battery calibration apps, that theory was debunked awhile ago...your battery stats are wiped automatically after you charge it past 90%.
