Ice cream sandwich - General Topics

A buddy of mine just got the samsung galaxy nexus with ICS from verizon. I made him a custom ringtone and sent it to him. He long pressed it, saved it but can not set as a ringtone. He and i went to vzw and a rep stated it was a ICS issue and not a hardware issue. Has anyone ran into this issue and if so, is it software or hardware issues

Software, there's no custom ringtones in ICS I think.

Sorry to contradict u but I am on a ics leak. I download "ring tone maker" from the market to make your own custom ring tones.

Yeah, well custom ringtones aren't supported on ICS anymore.

He hooked his phone to his PC and it installed the drivers, then reconized the phone as a "mass storage device" and had several folders one of which was "ringtones" he copied and pasted his MP3 tones there. Once undocked from the PC, the phone reconized the sounds as ringtones and he was able to set them as such.

I guess the version I have does support them otherwise I wouldn't have them

Can you not just put the file into a self created media folder? It should then display as an option?

In Froyo, While listening to music, you press menu and there will be a 'Set as Ringtone' option, Would be totally awkward if ICS dont have it.

There is "set as ringtone" option in ICS. Also you can create a media folder in the SD card and put ringtones there.

There is an app in the market ringtone maker that uses your media to make custom ringtones.

with ics is not possible

I'm running ICS 4.0.4 and it works fine for me. I can either long press the music track and "Use as Ringtone" or select it from the menu.

I did not realize of that long press method it works.

Before you say something....think.....

It is possible. You need to have the right folder location to add it to the list of ringtones. There's one for notifications and one for ringtones. That's how the music apps are able to add them.
/ringtones for ringtones
/notifications for notifications
/alarms for alarms

or you could do
media/ringtones for ringtones
media/notifications for notifications
media/alarms for alarms

Doesn't matter where they are as long as they're named correctly.

Music Player Controls in Notification Pulldown?

Is there any app that allows you to put functional music controls like play/pause, back, next, etc... in the status bar pulldown? If not, is there a way to have them? Like a rom that has it or a way to flash something?
CyanogenMod7 has this.

I have heard from others that CM7 has this. So I'm interested in knowing if this is true or not.
Supposedly, with a control bar app called "widgetizer" you can put a widget in the notification bar that will cause a pop-up music control when pushed. I never got it to work on my SGS. And I hear it only works with the Android stock music player, which I don't have (and it does not seem to work with the 3.0 version of android music player).
The SGS has a music player which has controls in the notification bar and has a good lock-screen widget, but that widget only runs on the stock SGS lock screen (and SGS variants/descendants. . It does not have any home-screen widgets, but that's sort of unnecessary because of the notification bar controls. However, for some reason, no one has tried to extract the music player, controls, and lock-screen out of the SGS and make it into a flashable package. I would like that now because I''m running a ROM (Darkys 10RC6) which does not have the stock Samsung lock-screen.

try settings/CyanogenMod settings/Interface/notification power widget
if you can see that option there, you should be able to enable it and use it.
you can do this widgetsoid or is it widgetzoid?
It sllows you to create your own widgets, even in the notification bar.
i know that option..
but iwant more than that..
anyone ever seen the music player in samsung device (ace or sgs2)??
if its play music,,there is a player control show up in notification pull down..
but when stop using music player,,its gone..
so its just like a widget..
but its place in notif pull down..
n only show up when u play music..
ics (cm9) have it..
but what i want to ask is any other music player do that??
as im not quite really like the google music,,as it have no option to show lyric..
thanks

[Q] mute shutter camera sound

anyone here knows how to shut it?
tried the s2 method (system sound)
and tab method (can't find the setting in camera app)
I just know how to mute shutter sound
You have to root your tab. And you can change file in /system/media/audio/ui/
The file is ' Shutter.ogg '. I recommend changing name such as ' Shutter.ogg1 ' .
After changing name you should reboot your device.
But dont know how to mute auto-focusing sound.
Hey,
I found this solution on another forum.
1. Open your root directory/Data
2. If there is a file called local.prop, open it. If not, create it. (/Data/local.prop)
3. Add this line to file:
ro.camera.sound.forced=0
4. Save and reboot tab.
This also silences auto focus.

Put your tab into silence or vibrate mode, it should silence all camera sound.

Ideally yes, alas this did not work. My tab would still make sounds when the camera was used even when all volume settings were 0. I have read some anecdotes that this was built in to address voyeurism concerns.

Voyeurism concern doesn't apply to other camera app you can find in market. Some camera apps don't even give you an option to disable sound, as they are operating silently anyway.

My wife has Galaxy Tab 7.7 P6810 and I'm trying to mute the camera shutter sound, tried silent mode but no luck. Hope there's a fix or update for this even the device is not rooted.
Try muting everything. I'm not so sure but one of the controls here can mute camera sound.

[Ringtones] Skyrocket Sound Compendium| BlackBerry, CM7, and MIUI Stock Sound Files

I decided to make this thread an archive of different sound packs to be used by developers for their ROMs or anyone else who wants to add to, or replace the stock sounds that came on their phone.
All files are now in OGG format, not MP3. A big thanks to cellgeek for converting the BlackBerry sound files!!!
Disclaimer:
These are not flashable zips!
USE AT YOUR OWN RISK. Not that there should be any risk with dragging and dropping sound files but you never know.
With that said, all you need to do is unzip the files and place them on your SD card. Make 3 folders...notifications, alarms, and ringtones in /media/audio and place the appropriate sound files where you want them.
Bon appétit!

Sound File Zips:
*BlackBerry
*CM7
*MIUI
More to come...
I did the same thing, thanks for making it available to everyone.

Glad you guys like it.
I will release more sound packs in the future since I tend to be more on the audio side of things usually. May even throw in some customized sounds as well.
Ive had nothing but blackberries before I got the skyrocket:
7130c
8700c
Curve 8310
Curve 8900
Curve 9300
Bold 9700
Definitely miss stuff like this, but for the most part. never looking back.
CyanogenMod 7 stock sounds have been uploaded as well.
Thanks
I really got used to bb sounds, and now you shared it, i will use them for few days to remember my bbm days.
Uploaded MIUI sounds.
Ok noob question. I extracted sound files to op locations. However they don't appear as options when trying to change notifications. How do I change this?

1. Plug phone into computer (make sure phone drivers are installed)
2. Mount USB mass storage
3. Under Computer there will be two Removable Disks ( E: and F: )
4. Under Removable Disk ( F: ) there should be a folder called "media". If it does not exist then make it. There should be an "audio" folder inside media.
5. media/audio/ is where alarms, notifications, and ringtones folders should go (make sure the folder names are plural and spelled correctly)

If you follow these steps and you still do not see the sound files appear when you go to change tones on the ROM then the media folder may be on the wrong "Removable Disk".
Hope that helps.

(HOW TO) Get PowerAmp working on 4.4.x ROMs.

I was playing around with CM11 today, and I was getting a little annoyed that PowerAmp repeatedly locked up between songs so I started to tweak it a bit!
There is no guarantee this will work, but these are the settings I have used to successfully get PowerAmp to work.
First of all, all of this takes place in the audio section under 'settings'.
1.) We are going to go to crossfade, gapless and fade section. Uncheck EVERYTHING. Make sure your settings look like mine below. (I think this is the main culprit).
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",

"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
2.) Next, we will go to 'advanced tweaks' section. Audio thread priority and audio buffer need to be set to 'normal' and 'auto'. Below are my settings.
3.) Lastly, this is optional but it works for me. I turned OFF equalizer, and tone. I left limit ON, because it seems on CM11 the music gets distorted at high levels. With these my music is pretty crystal clear.
This worked for me, so I figured I'd share my results. Hope it helps at least one person out!
Also my music is currently on my external SD card, not sure of that makes a difference or not in the end result.

Is it really impossible to pick a custom ringtone in 4.4?

Hello
I have a new moto g and I can't find where/how to pick a custom ringtone from my mp3 files, it was possible easily on my previous Nokia c5 with symbian
Am I missing some setting somewhere to enable this?
Thanks.
Sent from my Moto G (XT1032) using Tapatalk.
Hello, most devices don't have an option for the said function. In this case, I don't have any option on my Nexus 5 either.
I have a music player installed called "NexMusic" its simple, fast, feature full. And the best thing is that you can set custom mp3 ringtones just by touching and holding down on the desired music file.
Hopefully this may be a way around the ringtone option.

Yeah, actually most music player will allow you to do that. So just pick the one you like and the chances are high that it can place any soundfile as ringtone of your phone.

You can, you just need a 3rd party file manager. You can change notification sounds and alarm ringtone as well.
Once you get a file manager, it will offer you Media Storage and File Manager when you click on change ringtone
