Only One Thing I Don't Like - AT&T, Rogers HTC One X, Telstra One XL

Only one thing so far I don't like about HOX. Bone stock, non-root.
Sense 4 stutters in the app tray when swiping between app screens. I think my gnex with official 4.04 is smoother. With more powerful hardware on the HOX, you wouldn't think even Sense 4 could slow it down. But it is consistently laggy or stutters when swiping between app tray screens. Not bad mind you, just a little stutter step during the first 1/3 of the transition as you swipe side to side.
I actually find Sense 4 to be quite usable so have no complaints with it. Just wish it were smoother. Maybe one day I will use a de-sensed rom but that will have to wait until I've owned it a month. We'll see.

Just use another launcher like Apex and Nova and you should be fine.

Sometimes it takes a second for my app drawer to pop up if I haven't opened it for a while, but not once has it stuttered swiping between screens. You really should root, that's what xda is for ya know...

Thanks, I tried Nova and liked it. Smooth.
Sense is so pervasive throughout though I couldn't get over the idea that I was running one launcher on top of another so decided that the Sense 4 stuttering app tray bothered me less than using two launchers and the resources that might suck up. It's not that bad, just mind boggling that HTC can't get this one part right.

Launcher Pro app transition effects on sense UI

Launcher pro has a transition effect for opening and closing apps. It zooms in and out into or out of the applications.
How do you get this same effect in sense UI.
Sent from my EVO using XDA App
I'm not sure this is possible. I would encourage using launcher pro. Just select it as default instead of sense. I tried it just this last weekend and I'm much happier with it compared to stock. The level of customization available is crazy. Throw in Beautiful widgets and I have no reason to use the sense launcher.
You don't. LauncherPro owns the hell out of Rosie, anyways. Just get alternative widgets from the Market.
Launcher pro doesn't feel as smooth to me. Sense seems to be the smoothest UI of all the ones I tried.
Also launcher pro lags after a few days without restart for me.

I think you're in the minority on that one. And if you don't get lag until a few days, take the 2 seconds to restart LP every couple days. It's not complicated at all.
launcher pro is awesome. my evo is like a whole new phone now, no problems at all.
just take the time to customize it nicely and buy some of the alternative widgets that make it look like sense. its well worth spending the few dollars.

I agree with h3nG.
Sense is smoother than Launcher pro. With 7 screens, there is always a small stutter when opening leap or screen previews in launcher pro the first time its called. But if you don't turn off the screen, on subsequent screen previews it is smooth. I just wish the 1st time was smooth...(that's what she said.)
And that's coming from someone who uses Launcher pro (mainly because I like customizing the dock).

I disagree, never had any type of issues w LP, actually it has been smoother than sense for me.
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
I'll do some digging. I too prefer sense to launcherpro. You can't deny that there is always a slight stutter when switching screens slowly on launcher pro that just isn't there with sense. I know it is possible because back in my hero days, Darchstar had a rom called DarchLegend which was based on the Legend rom, but he incorporated the zoom effects from stock android. I believe I know how to achieve it so it'll just take a little digging
The only lag I suffer from with LP is when previewing all seven screens. The first two clicks are very stuttery, and then it smooths out, so Sense wins in that, but LP is snappier in every other category...For me at least. I also rarely use the previews feature, so it's not really a big deal.
Let's weigh the pros and cons of LP:
Slight delay when previewing all 7 screens (do people honestly use this?) vs Nearly full customization and many more features than Rosie.
Damn, that's such a tough decision.

Let's Talk Launchers

Hey guys, just got my G2X whooo!!!
Loving it so far, got it home, immediately rooted and put ADW EX on it. I've noticed, however that ADW seems to bog when doing certain multitasking, like live wallpapers for instance. This is relative to the stock launcher that seemed to not be bothered at all by running a live wallpaper.
So my presumption is that ADW is yet to be dual core optimized and is probably using the same core as the live wallpaper and I'm wondering if anyone knows of another launcher that may be better suited to our ivory (dual core) needs.
Thoughts?
I've noticed the same with mine, the stock launcher is BLAZING and smooth but ADW and LauncherPro both stutter and are slow and painful. Just give it time for updates I would imagine.
Yeah I'm sure they'll come in time.
Just wondering if anyone knows of one that's already got the dual core treatment. Was a touch disappointed to try launcher pro and adw and go slower though i guess in this case it speaks to the insanely fast performance of the phone when optimized.
I wonder how the CM guys are going to handle this, since one of it's performance boosters is ADW.
Anyone try Zeam yet? That always seemed to be the quickest one on all of my devices.
Never heard of it.
Gonna try it out now though.
Really though, I think the problem is more so with the dual core optimizations than anything else.
well now im bummed. i love adw. damn it.
and how long does the delivery guy take?
damn. it.

Man, Zeam is the best launcher I have ever used. It just got a update too. It doesn't have as many options as ADW or LP but it's much faster.
how does go launcher perform on this phone ?
zeam runs pretty well, but not as quick as the stocker.
I had allot of force closes w/ LP+ on my dual core Atrix, I had to play with the memory usage settings to stop them. If you do, be careful and only change one setting at a time. I had to uninstall/reinstall LP once during my testing because of constant FC. I rarely ever see a FC now, maybe once a week. Its very smooth now also.
When I first used the phone I was mildly impressed. For some reason stock launcher was laggy, but once I installed go I was happy. Only thing that bothers me about the ui now is the white task bar, but hopefully there'll be an update soon (woohoo ginger).

I've had no problems with stock, so there's where I am now. With my SGS4G I switched to Launcher Pro, but with my G2X I don't feel the need at this point.
My stock launcher was around 30fps and it bugged the crap out of me.
I installed launcher pro and everything is 60+fps and buttery smooth.
It slows down a bit with the 3d app drawer though.

Also using Launcher Pro, and I'm having no problems with speed whatsoever. I did notice some lag when I used the homescreen transition effects that LP offers, but I never really used those anyway so it doesn't make a difference to me.

Same here, i have been using Go Launcher and i have to say i like it much better than ADW have not tried Zeam yet though. but Go is very smooth and i like the customization better.
I'm using ADW but don't use live wallpaper. The 4D app drawer and move wall paper background when sliding home pages, both of which are resource heavy, are really smooth. It might be a combination of ADW and something else you have installed that's slowing you down.

Can sense be avoided with another launcher?

Im going to be switching to T-Mobile and the Sensation looks like the top phone at the moment. Unfortunately, sense slows this phone BIG TIME. Can i just bypass that with another launcher?
Yes, just install one from the market, push home and it will give you an option. that's just the launcher tho, not the whole system sense integration. But this phone was made for sense (interface not launcher, I personally use go launcher), I haven't noticed any lag.

Yes and no. The problem most people have isn't with the interface but with how much resources it takes up. If you add another launcher you don't reduce the usage of sense. If you just want a different interface then yes you can drop another one on top. From my experience ADW is slow as dirt on this device so i wouldn't recommend that one but i've heard people have had success with launcher pro
For me launcher pro and adw are slow. The but go Launcher runs great. Very smooth.

Yeah even though they are simply overlays and would only take up more resources, I tried both ADW and Launcher Pro (my usual) on my Sensation... both were ridiculously slow to the point of "Well screw this I'm sticking with Sense till they root this thing!"

Well hang on there a sec, I didn't say the phone itself was laggy... in fact quite the opposite this thing flies. It was only ADW/Launcher Pro that lagged it out. I have had NO complaints with it's snappiness at all, and I'm harsh on judging my phones! This one has given me no reason to ***** about the speed... I just prefer stock Android over Sense, which even though it has some great features, still bugs me aesthetically.
I too was worried after I played with an in-store unit and noticed it laggy, but I think that is a simple result of everyone and their mother going in there and messing with it. All I can say is don't take the in-store performance too seriously... mine has acted nothing like the store unit did.

Sense is an entire UI integration made by HTC. It is not just a simple home app that you can replace (although you can replace the Sense launcher with something better like ADW). Unless you install an AOSP ROM like CyanogenMod when the phone is rooted you will NEVER be rid of Sense no matter how many bloatware apps you remove or HTC components you freeze. Period. End of story.
Is there anything about that you didn't understand?

I love to see a post with a mature, dignified, helpful approach... So, what approach were YOU going for?
Listen bud... try to imagine a world where posting unnecessary (ie completely unhelpful and rude) garbage like this does NOT in fact impress anyone. I know man... I sure wish it did too. I'm super glad that ADW runs buttery smooth for you, and had you responded with a helpful "Hey ADW runs great for me, here's how I have it configured..." I would have listened and actually could have respected you. Instead, you post trash like "I laugh at those, I'm right you're wrong" etc... As such I couldn't care less what you have to say.

This phone isn't usable without LauncherPro for me.

Thank God for 3rd party launchers. I can't stand Sense and I have given it every chance as well. Apart from the extremely annoying frequent Sense reboots the phone lags and things feel slower than on my old Incredible. Just switching from Sense to LauncherPro without changing anything else I get back over 50MB of RAM. That's ridiculous, talk about bloat.
I still haven't s-off my phone yet but I'm starting to consider it. Especially when we get stable builds from Cyanogen.

I have been using ADW on it since I got it. I hate Sense and always have. To much eye candy for no apparent reason. Ill take function over form any day of the week.
By the way, I just switched everyone from the other thread regarding this same topic over to ADW from LP and gave them my settings. The 5 that did all agree that ADW is faster than LP with the correct settings. Also, the free version of ADW will not be as fast due to it not having a lot of the settings. You have to purchase ADW EX in order to feel the speed.

I can't figure it out but my phone hates Sense. Even after I uninstalled the Good for Enterprise app which I thought was causing the issues Sense starts slowing down and then craps out after a little while. It literally restarts Sense after every app install or update or even uninstall. I don't think its a memory issue only because there's plenty free but it doesn't happen right after a reboot either. I can't figure it out but it definitely seems like something is leaking memory or corrupting Sense.
When is T-Mobile releasing our update? I'm good using LP for now but it'd be nice to have a proper functioning stock launcher as an option as well.

I was running ADW EX for a few days. It was fast as ****, but I missed the Sense 3.0. Widgets and interface. My phone has no lag at all and works perfect with Sense as well. If it was laggy, I would definitely drop it for ADW. My brother uses Launcher Pro and is a big fan. To each his own.
Totally agree, to each his own.
For me ... this phone is totally usable with Sense...
Each launcher has it's pluses and minuses. There are quite a few alternatives to Sense widgets but none has completely done it for me. Same goes for HTC's apps, especially People/Phone and Email apps.
The major problem with Sense 3 was the many frequent Launcher restarts, which is almost solved now with the custom rom I'm using (CrystalPyramid), been using it for 3 days and it's been as fast as can be for me. I really can't be happier with my Sensation now.
The only two things I really miss about other launchers are changing home number of rows and resizable widgets.

I was already pretty happy with LP's performance on my phone, but a couple of experiments with those tweaks made it even better for me. Hopefully it'll make things a little rosier for you too? That is, if you're even interested in LP anymore

At&T SGS2 was running super smooth for me, no matter how many Widgets, live wallpaper or apps running in the background. The only slight stutter I ve seen on the skyrocket is in the launcher and only visible when running a few Widgets. Could be a firmware issue from "Samsung" not stock android. Comparing perfomance iPhone to android is not fair at the time, if anything compare it to WP7 since there's no multitasking, Widgets, background process, live wallpaper, ect on either phones.
