I recently installed Wildstang's 4.0... ROM on my Dinc phone. I now seem to be having problems with sending picture messages. Anyone know why that might be?
Here are the details:
1. formatted and installed ROM update as per Wildstang's instructions.
2. incoming/outgoing messages working fine.
3. noticed a few days later that sending pictures via mms doesn't work (they just sit there). I can receive picture messages.
4. Call VZW. Dance around the question, "is this a rooted phone?"
5. They continue to help, ask me to do a Restore to Factory.
6. Did Restore to Factory, picture messages work...browser and a number of other apps do not.
7. Format phone and re-install ROM as per #1.
8. Picture messages work sending and receiving.
9. One day later I notice my pictures stop sending, I can still receive.
The only thing I can think I may have done to break the picture sending part is I used Titanium Backup to uninstall several VZW bloat apps which I had uninstalled in the old 2.xxx ROM (Actually, on that version I did it through ADB Shell and command line).
10. redid step #1.
11. Restored only my Google Market apps and left all VZW bloat alone using Titanium.
12. Now I can't even get my phone to send pictures at all (get the "failed to send" error). I have been able to send/receive normal text messages all along and I have been able to receive picture messages all along.
Any thoughts or insights into what might be wrong? I'm mildly suspicious that there is a bit of a conspiracy going on with VZW because coincidentally, they told me the other day that my contract is up for renewal and I should look to upgrade my phone It's so very odd that I have had my phone for 2 years with zero problems like this and now when it comes time to extending my contract that problems begin to occur...hah!

i have newer version of captivate with gps fixed but few days ago it stopped sending text message although it can still receive text messages.
normally after sending message, it usually displays time stamp under the text but when it does not work it just displays "sending" as status indefinitely.
phone is rooted and has gingerbread i believe.
I also called customer center service and they did not see any issue from the point of service provider.
Anyone has experienced the issue? Thanks,
I'd have them check again to make sure that text is setup right on your account.
Beyond that what have you changed recently. Typically something like texting wont just stop working on the phone without something having been changed.
Is the ROM that's on there one you flashed? If so back it up, reflash to a clean state and see if text works. Then restore a bit at a time and see when it fails.

somebody also had this problem and he did a factory reset and he was able to send messages again but he is saying that he has lost his root although it's not possible
here is the link to thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1540652
DID factory reset and now can send message. but cant root it back. crappy phone. tried from both of my laptop and desktop machine using odin v1.81. problem never gets around captivate.
Do the heimdall flash of KK4 or Apex ROM. Same as stock, but with root and all the problems gone.
I've been having some strange issues on my phone over the past few days. Just to preface, I'm not rooted.
1) Every few seconds, the Wi-Fi will drop and switch to 4G, but then will reconnect to Wi-Fi. So far I have only noticed this on my home network.
2) Some outgoing text messages are being marked as "not sent", but the other party is in fact receiving them (I found this out after sending my roommate the same text 4 times)
3) Voicemails are not showing up in Visual Voicemail.
4) Battery is dropping at a quicker rate than usual; also taking more time to charge.
I can't help but wonder if all these things are interconnected.
I just tried an anti-virus check, but that did not help. The only solution I can think is to do a factory reset, but I'd rather not lose all my data (and at this time I do not want to root my phone, so no Titanium Backup).
Any other thoughts?

Heres a link to a PC program that will back up your phone (Via ADB ) without being rooted. You will need the Samsung drivers installed on your pc and thats it.... You don't need to install ADB on your PC as all the files come in the zip file you download from the link...

The Problem:
Sometime last week, several--but not all--of my text messages disappeared from both Google Hangouts and my native SMS app. Only recent texts went missing, while past messages from those same people were visible in the Contact History. I noticed for two reasons: 1) my incoming messages after last Monday all were basically new threads and the previous texts with those individuals/groups were gone, and 2) I needed to keep a record of a particular thread with my ex who became abusive in the case that I would need to file a restraining order. He is bright, but borderline which means he's unstable. I am anxious about having lost those texts with him and also insatiably curious, which is why I'm posting here.
Sidenote: Yes, I have heard of SMS Backup & Restore. No, I did not use it before. Yes, I plan to use it in the future.
My Phone Details:
Samsung Galaxy S3 (SGH-T999L)
Android version 4.3
Baseband version T999LUVUBNF4
Sidenote: I know missing texts is a known issue with this phone, so if that is what you think it is after reading this, please tell me. However, it's bothersome to me because all threads before 3/23 disappeared from my SMS app, BUT I can still see *some* (but not all!) texts by looking through my contact history. Also bothersome is that on 3/20, I told my ex (by text) that if he did not stop contacting me, I would file a restraining order. Of course this mysterious loss of data could be completely coincidental, too.
What I've Tried So Far
1. I tried to use Dr.Fone software to find the lost messages. It got stuck at the "Analyzing Device" screen, so no luck there.
2. Yesterday, I rooted my phone after poring over this website for several hours. I used CF Autoroot. Although I was unsuccessful at using adb commands on both my phone (Terminal Emulator) and computer (SDK), I was able to navigate the root directories using ROM Toolbox Pro (Hallelujah! That process was driving me crazy!).
3. I looked at all the "mmssms.db" databases (/databases/com.android.providers.telephony/mmssms.db) - no luck. It only contained the recent messages that are visible in the SMS app.
4. I discovered that I could see older text messages by looking through the Contact History (View Contact > History). Many threads were deleted all the way back to 2014, but 1 thread still had texts from 3/22/15. So, I went on the hunt and discovered "logs.db" (/databases/com.sec.android.provider.logsprovider/logs.db).
5. In logs.db, I could see up to 1000 rows with the names of people, including those people whose threads were deleted. Their names and numbers are all present and accounted for, but when I view the M_Content column, I see a bunch of blank spaces where text content should be, all the way back until April of 2014 (with the exception of the thread with 2 texts on 3/22/15).
Other Strange Happenings
This could be selective memory, but in the last week my phone has been acting very strangely, turning off spontaneously, even when charged, and getting lots of error messages (Sorry, X App must close).
The Chicken Or The Egg
What do you think? Is my phone glitching and therefore I lost the data, or did I lose the data, perhaps by some nefarious means, and therefore my phone is glitching? Does this sound like a typical data loss situation to you?
Final Caveats
Please use layman's terms. I am not an expert by any stretch, so the more jargon used to advise, the more hours I will spend trying to discern what you are trying to tell me.
Thank you in advance for your help.
My mom decided to be a dumbass and keep a bunch of photos stored permanently in the text messaging app. Whenever someone sent her something, she wouldn't actually save it, just leave it in the messaging history and dig through the relevant messages whenever she wants to use the photo again. Now, she has a new phone, and she wants all of the pictures that are currently in the text message app on her old phone to be stored in a folder on her new phone, or at the very least to be on her new phone in some form. Ideally, what I want is to get a tarball of all of the messaging app's data that I can then cp *.jpg all of the images out of, and then I can email her the images. I am unwilling to try to root the phone because there are no backups of it, so I don't want to risk breaking anything.
The first thing I tried were the SMS transfer apps from the play store, such as this and this. In theory, these would be the easiest to use solution, and while they wouldn't be out of the messaging app, at least they would be on the new phone. I tried about 10 of them, multiple times each. Every single one would claim to have succeeded in transferring over the messages, but absolutely nothing ever appeared on the new phone.
The next thing I decided to try was LG Switch, since both phones were made by LG. Unfortunately, that didn't work out either. It wanted to wipe the new phone and basically set it up to be an exact copy of the old one. My mom has already started to use the new phone, so nuking the entire phone and copying everything over is not acceptable. Additionally, the radios on the old phone only work intermittently (one of the reasons that the phone was replaced), so I don't want to do anything that will take more than a minute or two over wireless.
Next, I tried Helium. The desktop app opens fine, but the app on the phone doesn't work. Sometimes, I get the application homescreen with a popup claiming that it is waiting for the desktop application and a cancel button that doesn't work. Sometimes, I get a solid white screen. In either case, the desktop app doesn't see it, the phone slows down and gets hot, and eventually I get a "Helium is not responding" popup. This has persisted across multiple attempts to wipe Helium's data and reinstall it.
The final thing I tried was LG Backup, which was buried in the settings menu. The old phone created a backup just fine, but the backup is in a proprietary format that I can't open on my laptop, and LG does not make it clear whether restoring on the new phone will keep the data that's already there or not. Additionally, this will still have the images trapped in a messaging app, except on the new phone instead of the old one.
I'm out of ideas. Anything else I can try? Any way I can fix the issues with something I already tried? Any way I can do this manually with ADB? In case it matters, the old phone is an LG G2 from T-Mobile (Model LG-D801) on Android 5.0.2, and the new phone is an LG K40.
Basically what happens is I get old texts from previous conversations as if they were new. They will come in randomly but tend to follow the sequence of the conversation, so it basically replays the conversation but slowly over the day. Seems to affect group chats more. It makes following conversations very hard since they are full of old texts that are not relevant but they show up as new. Also annoying to keep getting notifications when I'm actually waiting for a text only to see that it's an old text that I got days ago.
Current phone is Google Pixel 4A with CalyxOS, but I've also tried Graphene OS and had the same issue. I've tried the stock app as well as QKSMS. I did not get the issue with Signal (using as SMS client) but they dropped support for SMS, so this started back again as soon as I switched off Signal. I even tried putting the sim card in my old phone (stock android) and it's still doing it! This part is strange to me because when this problem first surfaced, doing this did fix the problem.
How do I make this stop or begin troubleshooting this? Nobody in my contacts is having this issue so trying to convince them to switch to another messaging system is kind of futile, this is my problem. I am starting to wonder if I should just get an iphone like everyone else because it just works, but I really hate the closed nature of apple ecosystem.
I was thinking of looking into how to do app development and modify an existing open source client so that it ignores texts that have a send date older than 24h, but before I do that, is there already a text client for Android available in the F droid store or as an APK that would have such a feature?
So this is not just group chats like I thought. Starting to get old texts I got from single conversations now. Even pictures get resent. These show up as new texts, though they still have the original send date. This will at least make it easier to filter these out.
Anyone have an ideas how to make this stop? Driving me insane. I really don't want to have to write my own app.
Anyone? This problem is driving me insane. It started happening with a vengeonce again. I am being bombarded by old texts that I already got days ago. It's just playing out the entire conversation over the course of a few days. Have to put the phone in airplane mode to make it stop otherwise the phone is just lit up non stop with old texts coming in.
At very least is there some kind of logging of sorts I can enable that would help me better troubleshoot this?
Inreally dont know but i Remember this happened to me sometime ,maybe Just try a factory reset or change rom , i dont know
I tried several roms, resets etc. While it was happening I even put the sim card in another phone and it started doing it on that phone too. It's also not a carrier issue since I'm the only person having this issue. I've also tried all sorts of text apps. The only one it didn't do it with was Signal but they dropped SMS support, which really sucks.
