I have a tf201, and when I plug it into my monitor it scales the desktop down to 720p for things like web browsing. It will do 1080p only for video (and the internal screen will go dark). Does the tf700 behave the same way?
When my micro-hdmi cable comes in tomorrow I'll check it out and let you know.

Thank you in advance!
Right, cable recieved and tested some stuff.
Connected, everything is 1080P. Playing HD video's in Youtube switches the output to 1280x720 (720P), but nicely as only the video transfers to the TV and not the interface, so you can still browse and check other vids in the youtube app.
Tried MX Player too, although I haven't found the perfect fluid settings yet. The 1080p output is transfered to the TV as well. Only thing with that is that there is some sort of grid showing up, again, that might be MX Player. But it conserves the output.
Keep in mind that the screen is 1920*1200 which gives you 2 sidebars on either side to fit the 1200 in vertically.
Webbrowsing is full HD as well. Anything else you want me to test?
thanks so much!!
Its web browsing and desktop work that I was most concerned with, and maybe polaris office.
pretty sure I'm going to get one of these ASAP!!
How did you get this already, I thought it was going to be released in mid July?

I can't see the option. There's only an notification, that it's connected via micro HDMI. I can't select anything by tipping it or hold on longer.
Do you have the Asus TF700 or the TF300,TF201?
Because on my screen it shows the bar at the Botton at the homescreen, and so there's an 16:10 Picture on my 16:9 Screen.

I went out and bought a micro HDMI to HDMI cable at frys the other day. It shows the picture and all but the xoom lags like none other when I put it in. Even a short swipe of the screen makes it pop up the add new widgets, wallpapers and so on. I was wondering what could be the problem with it? Its a non-rooted wifi only xoom.

i have similar problem with my HDMI cable. When ever I connect the xoom reboot it self work for few second then stop. After unplug and replug againsame cycle reboot.
Though this was working fine before! !!!!!
Mine works great with my LG set. The only thing when I plug it in the black bar at the bottom doubles in size on the xoom and doesn't reset after I unplug it. I have to reboot anyone have a fix?

I picked up a the cord and it worked great.
The only issue I found was neither tv I tried it on could adjust overscan. On one tv the size adjustments were greyed out? and the other didn't respond to changes to picture size.
I will test this when I get my cable this week, should have by Tuesday.

Does your TV have some sort of smoothing like running at 120Hz or 240 in some cases? If there's a "game" mode then usually that runs at 60Hz without a delay because it doesn't have to interpolate in-between frames.

Glad that helped.
Well I tried again today and I found the reboot problem is ONLY with the Youtube, but not with any other applications ... can somebody confirm if they has issues watching Youtube through HDMI !
I was wondering if I could use the Transformer to stream videos to my hdtv.
I purchased a Mini HDMI cable and hooked it up to my TV to play movies that my other streaming device (xbox 360) couldn't handle.
But when I play the movie on the Transformer, (and it appears on my TV), the Transformer screen stays on.
[Q] Is there a multimedia mode where I can shut the screen off but still have the video playing? To conserve battery?
no as of right now there is not although some video player apps turn the screen off when playing video through hdmi (I know youtube does it but that doesn't really help) but there is definatly at least one that will do that for you just try out different apps and i thnk that you will find one that works for that purpose
Turn the transformer to face the other way.

I'm not familiar with this method, doesn't necessarily conserve battery does it?
Keeps you from getting annoyed by seeing a mini-me of the tv screen when watching a movie with people . Just a quick-fix of course, not really helpful in terms of battery.. but I'd assume that 2 hours of streaming is fine, especially since being near a tv is like being near an outlet.

Lol, my last question was sarcastic. The guy was being a smartass. Obviously it doesn't conserve battery.
i guess for now just turn it around and maby set tasker to turn brightness down when hdmi is plugged in
Hi,
I have bought a mhl cable, but when it is connected to the tv, shows 24 fps limit.
Its good for watching vodeos but in games it should be 60 fps.
So what can i do
Thanks

I don't think the phone can handle 60fps on a big TV. I've tried GTA3 connected to a 42in TV and off course it was choppy as ****.

In addition to which our Sensation seems to lack the horsepower to play anything via MHL truly smoothly as well. If you want to experiment for a laugh, download Electopia game/benchmark from the Market. When you start the app you will be asked if you want to run it at WVGA or full screen. Start with WVGA, then, on the next screen select 'benchmark mode'. After it finishes (about a minute) it will give you a score in cluding the average fps. Now go back and do the same full screen (it will be lower). Now go back and run both tests with the phone connected to the tv via MHL and you will see it's even lower. I get:
WVGA: 39.75 fps
960x540: 33.68 fps
WVGA connected to tv via MHL: 29.62 fps
960x540 connected to tv via MHL: 25.09 fps
Bear in mind these are averages so it's likely that frame rates are dropping substantially below this at times. In addition, in percentage terms, those framerates are a world apart. At least I can now quantify why Shadowgun and MC3 are a bit frustrating via MHL.
I'm hoping that as the newer phones come to market this year journalists will get their backsides into gear and start benchmarking these kind of factors for us ; ) For those of use that want to connect our device to a tv then control it via bluetooth keyboard and a mouse (essentially use it as a little media pc for light gaming/internet/movies/email etc), this kind of info is really important. Wish I'd known before I bought it. Not sure how well the new 720p screened devices will get on with the extra pixels AND duplicating the image to a tv...

Based on the performance of our phone and what bonesy said above, I guess not. I guess you could try overclocking your Sensation to make it maintain 24fps and see if that helps....
Before I buy my next phone I'll try and make sure it has the power to mirror to a tv smoothly.
Hi everyone,
I just got this tablet a week ago and wanted to set it up on my 20 inch lcd screen through the HDMI port. when I do that I notice it starts very fluid but very 6 seconds or so the mouse and the environment will stutter then go fluid and repeat?
The display is showing both on my lcd screen and the tablet, could this be the issue of slowing the performance?
Thank you
Chris
for example happens around 11second mark

I am not quite sure, but it might be due to the connection with the keyboard dock? Or does this also happen when disconnected form the dock?
Are you rooted by the way? Are you running a custom ROM or not?

Shame on me for not giving you this info before hand... As someone that develops at work I should have provided this info.
Everything is stock and running off of the newest firmware .26
I think you are right about the keyboard causing this.. Need a little more testing.

You're driving 2 1080p displays instead of one. Until they let us turn off mirroring this will always be a problem.

My thoughts exactly. The tablet sometimes has a hard time with one, two makes it difficult. With a few software updates, I'm sure we won't have any more major slow downs on the tablet and HDMI because this tablet has great hardware...but for right now there's not much we can do.

I have been trying out Netflix on my TF700 and displaying on a 120hz 1080p Vizio. The sound is very out of sync with the video. This is using the HDMI port on the TF700, no bluetooth involved. During the movie there were several times when the picture became very mottled and blotchy like the video processor couldn't keep up and reduced resolution. Is the poor performance the App's fault, ICS, or what ever.
The Netflix App is so poor it is painful to use. Will be cancelling the free trial just because the App is so bad.

Get wifi analyzer from the market and see if you can choose a better (less occupied) wifi channel. The blotch is typically reduced resolution due to the connection, not the processor. Thanks to prolific hardware decoding, tegra 3 coasts through video.
Can't speak for the sync issue though. Is it in sync when you aren't using HDMI-out?
If you were using MX player, I'd say use s/W decoding for audio out of sync issues. Bit Netflix doesn't let you change those kinds of settings. Do like other poster said and try a less crowded channel.
ASUS hasn't updated the HDMI features on the Firmware version for the Infinity, it lacks a couple options that allowed you to properly fit your tablet to your HDTV's display.
The Transformer Prime has these options in it's latest firmware released several months ago, but these options are absent in the Infinity.
My only hope is that these issues are resolved once ASUS ever get around to releasing Jelly Bean for the Infinity.
I have the same problem with my new infinity. The prime it replaced worked very well with the Netflix app.
I do not see similar problems with
other video, so far.
BS player as well has great reviews and tons of features

Just tried watching a movie on the TF screen and everything was in perfect sync. The HDMI output appears to be where the out of sync condition is being introduced.
I haven't tried Netflix with the HDMI out. On my Evo 4G, when I do it, it sometimes gets out of sync. You just have to stop, and restart the movie. It works most of the time.
As for Netflix, when in the app, if it's laggy as all can be, go into the developers section in settings and turn on force 2D. It helps significantly. Read it somewhere on here and tried it. Might even help with the sync issue.
Thanks for the 2g tip makes netflix work much better. Scrolling with normal settings is terrible even without hdmi. Works normally after changing settings force 2g.

I did change force 2g to on. Netflix works much better. Voice did sync on hdmi in netflix and YouTube. A little delay on Netflix until stream got going about 1 min. I had forgotten to turn off program running on roku so i had two streams at same time. Since Netflix was almost unusable with 3g excel on and using hdmi, i did not try sync test.

I've found that my infinity doesn't output 1080p on the HDMI. Works on YouTube which leads me to believe its the Netflix app itself. Are you guys using the stock Netflix app or threaD modded one?

When i first hooked up tf i had a small boarder off screen on tv. I changed tv settings to adjust vertically and screen resized properly. I had no problems viewing netflix on hdmi to my tv. Video did not play on tf, but did show everything else.
I recently change my dsl from 1.6 meg to 12 meg. Huge difference. I am amazed that Netflix can stream at slower speeds but quality goes way down. I've read that you need at least 4 to 6 meg for good playback. Problems with playback may be caused by slow dsl.
Test on resolution of tv
Tv shows 1920 x 1080 on home screen of tf. When Netflix plays video tv shows 1280 x 720. Tf is changing hdmi output depending on what its playing.
Hulu plus will not play on hdmi.
Amazon plays through browser standard def.

To remove the bottom on screen navigation keys with HDMI out enabled:
Go to Settings, then click on the HDMI category at the bottom. The navigation bar at the bottom of the screen will disappear and you will have native 1920 x 1080 full screen output on the TV.
It's really weird that clicking the HDMI category / row instantly removes the navigation keys. It would have been better to have a show / hide preference in the HDMI settings pane...
